  • Dance of Death is an Orange Belt self-defense technique in American Kenpo Karate. In this video, I show the extension of the base technique, which is where you will noticeably see the "Dance of Death" part of the technique.

I love watching these videos. I studied a form of Tracy Kenpo, and so far this is the closest I have seen to what I learned. I have watched several other video's of Dance of Death and they took out the "Dance part". Nice work Sensei Seabrook.

Thanks so much for your comment. I really appreciate it. I think the reason why most videos do not show the "dance part" is because in American Kenpo (not Tracy Kenpo), the base move of Dance of Death is taught for Orange Belt and ends at or shortly after the takedown. It is not until 1st Degree Brown Belt (or sometimes black belt level depending on the curriculum being taught) that the "extension" of Dance of Death" is taught when you start stomping all over the opponent's back.

I'm from a small town . I used to take Kenpo Karate many years ago. It was great. But our instructor moved and we were left without a teacher. If only he had stayed longer.

It is never too late to get back into it. What rank did you achieve? How long did you train for?

@SeabrookMartialArtsAcademy I was about to get my purple belt. Then our instructor who was a police officer. Suddenly and quite quickly moved away. This was the 90s. Wasn't as easy to keep in touch as it is today.

@@joemartinez9040If there is a Kenpo school close to you, and it is a good one, you should consider going to check it out. If there is no Kenpo close to you, or you do not feel comfortable with the school in your area, use my videos as training aids, particularly for the self-defense techniques. I break them all down step-by-step. I am aiming to have the whole system readily available to motivate and inspire others to train more.

@@SeabrookMartialArtsAcademy There are none close. 50 + miles . I've watched many vids. Even taught my kids some of the basics. I got into Kenpo after Jeff Speakmans movie the Perfect Weapon. But I had followed and read about Ed Parker Before that. He was a hero of mine like Bruce Lee. And Speakman after the movie came out. I just stumbled on to your vids and will continue to watch.. Thanks

@@joemartinez9040 Yes, Ed Parker is the man! I just had the opportunity to train with Jeff Speakman in April. I like how he recognized the need for jiu-jitsu to be incorporated into his system, as Kenpo has very limited answers for what to do if we are taken to the ground. It is the exact reason why I started training in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in January 2012 and continue training in it to this day.

I like to pull the leg up causing pain to his leg and also it is pulling him up off the ground giving you complete control then back fist etc.
