In fairness to those who thought Luka would be a bust, it can be very hard to know what players skills will translate to the NBA.
And a young player like Luka, who looks a bit less athletically gifted than the other top prospects, and they see his moves but he's damn near in slow motion sometimes, and they're like, "Yeah, that's not gonna work against NBA talent"...
Even to this day he's going to be 5× 1st Team All NBA, and you still hear current and former players absolutely stunned that they can't figure out how to stop this "slow" guy who "can't jump".
Luka is helping to destroy some prejudices against White and European players.

Luka might be in the goat conversation when he retires. I just hope the Mavs can build a steady team around him. They have time, but the team they have now more than likely won't get it done. He needs a two-way wing, or a really good big man. I think those are the type of players who compliment him the best. A big man is probably the best answer though. One that moves really well off ball, and in the pick and roll, but can also pop.

The folk at europe saw he had talent and fostered that talent sending him to people of skill level, compared to what scouts and leagues in the States do, where they say "you have a lot of talent youre gonna go far" and leave you to play in the league youre dominating in and not try to push up so you can grow and show that skill. Well handled by the FIBA scouts and euroleague scouts, to push this man from a kid in Europe to a NBA star in his first 3 seasons
