Lady, yours is probably the most realistic video of what to expect on the Alta Via 1. Your joy and enthusiasm are contagious. I especially respect the courage you showed in sharing your first day melt down. IU think it was in that moment that I realized that this would be a doable adventure. Thank you again for all the time and effort you put into making this.
A blizzard has forced me back indoors, so I’m finally watching your brilliant film. It’s fantastic. I love your work, your perspective, your honesty, all of it!
Dear Abbie - I’m only just starting to watch this vlog and I am feeling major empathy and wish to give you a big hug! I know you’re going do so brilliantly on this walk as the vlog goes on but you really are the most wonderful human being and I hope you know that! 💗x This vlog is so stunning - what an absolutely BEAUTIFUL place! 💚🌿xxxx
Just one word….. Stunning. Well ok just two words….. Absolutely stunning. Have walked much of the Dolomites in my younger days (I’m 73). Brought back many memories. Thank you Abbie, this was wonderful.
So glad you left the Panic attack in the video. Helps those of us that deal with that to see you overcome and move on. I have some physical limitations, and when I come to a spot that looks really hard for my limits, I often can get attacks like that. I find if I stop, sit and look at the spot for a bit, I can work out in my mind how to approach that section that I'm worried about. It's why I prefer to solo hike. If I'm with someone else, even my husband, I feel pressured and it makes me feel even worse.
Hey Abbie! Was a pleasure meeting you on the paths last year, hope we'll run into each other again somewhere. What a great video to reminisce to. And thanks for the honorable mention! ✌
Another real Abby adventure! Thanks for sharing. Although the movie was awesome, the most precíous is your resumee in the end. That's live with all the ups and downs. Again you have shown us that one can do it against all odds just trusting oneself. Let's take on life in its fullest - it's worth it because it's what life means. Thanks again, dear Abby, cheers and go wild, Michael
What an incredible journey! I so appreciate you making these films to show us these beautiful places and the lessons you've learnt along the way. Huge respect to you and lots of love from Australia
Aaaaaw Abbie what a start to your adventure. I love and admire your honesty about your MH struggles. We’re all behind you. Looking forward to the rest of the film ❤
Another wow trail you completed.Breathtaking views, your bravado, your dedication and spirituality is so impressive,so inspiring.Nice to see your happy radiant smile which is very contagious and uplifting.Thank you, thank you, thank you endlessly ❤🎉Teared up at the end feeling proud of you
Abbie, as always you inspire me with your sense of joy, your curiosity, your vulnerability, your bravery, and your sense of adventure. And once again, you've put another one on my bucket list! Thanks!
This video is absolutely wonderful! I mean, all your videos are amazing, this one though is possibly my favourite so far! Thank you Abbie for all that you are and do 😊
Ta! I certainly did 🤗 You're genuine. Your true love for our mother Nature is more than evident, it's in your DNA. We're all connected with the Universe, unfortunately not everyone realizes it. However, as long as there are people like you, advocating for respecting our planet and promoting mental and physical health, this world is well worth the limited time we all have been given to enjoy and love it ❤
what an amazing adventure, you are a true warrior abbie , you absolutely smashed that ! Absolutely a fantastic advocate for mental health awareness and a total inspiration to us all , Thanks for showing us all the gr8 achievements that can be achieved when we beat our self-doubt , you always have gr8 self awareness and self control on video , Already waiting for the next one :) ofc when your rested up at least haha
Wow - it looks like paradise on Earth! Utterly beautiful! I really admire your courage in tackling this solo too - I think that makes it even more of an achievement. Love what you said at the end too - you are SUCH an inspiring human being Abbie! Thank you for this beautiful, life enriching film 🙏🕉️💚x
Thoroughly enjoyed this vlog, the Dolomites are something else. One of my favourite holidays ever was a self guided holiday in the Dolomites, I've enjoyed coming along the journey with you in this vlog. You're inspirational.
What an A-M-A-Z-I-N-G video, with beautiful scenery and brilliant commentary. I watched straight through with nervousness for you and joy - and relief - at the end when you caught that bus! You are so very brave Abbie. Well done!
Was looking forward so much to watching this one and it didn't disappoint. Fantastic video of your journey. What amazing scenery. I know what you mean about the plastic bottle issue and I often find myself in places where you have to buy water in plastic bottles rather than being able to fill a reusable one. It goes completely against the protection of the environment. I loved the video as always. Your honesty about when you are struggling mentally as well as the joy you experience being out on the trail makes your videos so real. A friend and I are planning a multi day hike on one of the Great Walks of Australia here in Queensland, you inspire me to get out there and live life to the full.
@AbbieBarnesWILD David Attenborough, Chris Packham, Ray Mears, .......Do you see where I'm going with this..? Oh yes, the one, the only...Abbie Barnes... with her own TV programme, episodes, series...am I a fan ? You betcha!!!! (If you need an agent..) 😀💪🤙Pow 💥
What a stunning place, what an amazing experience, thanks for including all Abby, an honest reflection of your journey with highs and lows. Love your channel.
Another amazing journey! Stunning! I've been lucky enough to visit The Dolomites but now want to immerse myself in them like you have! Thanks as always for being your true self and sharing with us all that it isn't always easy but showing what you can achieve and how it can then make you feel to push through those moments. Inspiring as always!
Thank you for bringing attention to the headfeck of the unsustainable practices of the refuges. They should remove the single use plastics to encourage hikers to bring their own reusable bottles. It's a shame they don't have strict designated areas for camping at least so some solitude is still possible. I enjoyed getting to join you on this adventure, whilst with my hot water bottle on this cold dark Scottish night! ❤
Thank you Abbie! What a fantastic video. The Dolomites are absolutely stunning and treterous. I'm glad you met supportive mates. Thank you so much for taking us along. 👋 from Bavaria
You are literally my inspiration Abbie and of many other people! Thank you so much for your videos keep it up! and if you need some time of from youtube, remember that we are like nature, we are not suppose to be blooming all year long, relax a bit and take time for only you! We are always here for you! Stay wild!
Thank you for sharing your trek through the incredible landscape of the Dolomites. Your honesty with your human struggles, the immense joy you radiate when soaking up the beautiful wild nature, your travels are so refreshing in this world where so many things are 'curated'. Thanks again, and 'stay wild'!
Abbie, all of your videos (collectons of emotions, thoughts, feelings, struggle and resolve), are inspiring, but in this wonderful journey you've shared with us, the proof that a journey in the wild can bring about personal discoveries and pathways through the challenges we face in life is laid bare. In the space of just over two hours you encapsulated the roller coaster of a two week journey wonderfully.. Your spirit definitely seemed inspired and alive in the closing few minutes! Proof if ever needed that Staying Wild is one of life's most vital and effective medicines! Thank you Abbie! ❤ PS. Edited due to too many uses of the word 'wonderful'... Sorry!
Such a SPECY spot in the world, you lucky, lucky bugger!!🥰🤗 I could have sat at the :short day" refugio's deck for hours just looking at that view. Totally awesome!
still watching...had to break yesterday to run errands....can't get over that hike back down. I'm not sure my knees would forgive me after that. I would have been inclined to soak in that water at 41:22. Beautiful.
Have watched this channel for years. It's so inspiring. This is one of your best videos, love it. Please keep telling it how it is, and how you are feeling. There's no point in over editing the real experience. Realise there is pressure with content creation for UA-camrs but at the same time I'm sure all your regular viewers and subscribers want to you take (some!) your time between trips and take care of yourself!Your films are amazing and we are lucky to watch them. Take care and thank you!
Another amazing film. This has made my list of places to hike. Through watching your films we are now planning on doing the TMB in 2026. Thank you so much, you are an inspiration to so many! Your passion reached me through the film. Your vulnerable moments teaches me it’s ok to not be ok at times and that those hard times don’t last, feelings/thoughts are just temporary even if it is debilitating at the time. Thank you for bringing to attention the on going issue with single use plastics…hope we can all make a difference by filtering water where we can and to purchase reusable bottles. Stay wild!
This was just amazing to watch, life is so stressful n chaotic at the moment for me, hence why I’m 5 days late watching(sorry) one of the things i love about you n your videos is the realness, the rawness…. Fabulous film Abbie - thanks once again for sharing your journey with us! It was great to be able to relate to a couple of sections having visited there in 2019 to do some climbing and via Ferrata-ing! I explored the war remains at Cinque Torri, also while sheltering from a thunderstorm - in fact got caught out up there twice! 😂 Would love to go back and explore some more. The Italian people were so friendly and welcoming and there was a really positive vibe there, which I’m glad you experienced! Thanks for a bit more inspiration to get back out there 💪💪💪

Extremely well documentation - thank you. Just a few comments and thoughts: 1. Water in plastic bottles - I detest also, but the point is that these huts are delivered either by helicopter or 4x4 where every KG counts. In some regions in the Alps you have a sign at the last well before the hut to fill up 2-3 L jars which they provide there (in plastic) if you want to stay overnight. You carry no water - no Stay. 2. The thing about privacy - I don't get it. What is this thing about? 3. These enormous backpacks. When I was hiking the Alta Via 1, 3, 5 and 6 in the 80th our backpacks were around 8 KG max (including climbing gear) to be able to add water and food for 2-3 days sine there was no supply on the trail. 4. In my days nobody went down on the Alta Via 1 to the bus stop, this was only for severe thunderstorms.
Thank you for that great video. We want to walk the way in July 2025. I'm always getting nervous and having a bit panic before every journey we're doing. So glad that you showed that! We recommend Wrightsocks in Germany so you won't get a foot blister. Greetings from us :)

Love this and very inspired to do this hike before it’s too late! And hoping to do this with my son! Now should we do this next year or do the Via Francigena-
I really enjoyed this video. We did the AV1 this year and it was amazing. Camping being restricted baffles me staying in rifugios is worse on the environment than wild camping and the use of plastic bottles sometimes 5 euros for a litre was shocking. I understand water is in short supply in some rifugios.

Good on you for getting that private room. Sometimes a person just needs a little quiet space.
