King Of Tone vs AC RC Booster - #79 Doctor Guitar

- Опубліковано 14 жов 2024
- In this episode I compare one of my all time favorite overdrives (Analogman King Of Tone) with one of my most recent buys, the Xotic AC RC Booster OZ Noy Edition.
Both are 2 pedals in one box and have a cleaner side and an overdrive side, so they are candidates to the same job.
Great video, very helpful explanations, thank you for posting!
Great you've liked it. You're really the man! The King of Tone is exactly what its name says. Thanks for making such great pedals.
Got my KOT today and this video makes me want an acrc too!
Ehh Eh!
Great comparison video, thanks for posting. I just got a great deal on a used AC RC & I’m on the waiting list for a KoT. They both sound great.
Your channel is a hidden gem into the internet abyss!
Panos Georgiadis I’m glad you have found it
Dude I absolutely love your videos! Sick tones, great reviews/breakdowns and badass playing 🤘
Daniele Moretti thanks a lot
Great demo.
I have an RC and an AC Booster..so if I stack them I basically have the Oz Noy, yeah? Add my little Mooer Blues Crab for bluesbreaker tones, a Jetter Red Squared for Marshall and Dumble + Helium Boost and...what more do I need?
A KOT. It's just so damn good.
Love my xotic AC plus pedal - lots of options and 2 in 1
I have owned 50+ excellent overdrives including the Kot but I have to admit that the AC booster is the only one that can really compete with the left side of the KOT. But yeah, nothing beats the KOT
I agree with you!!!
Thanks for the demo, I have played both circuits and I feel like this ac/rc demo isn’t quite the results I’ve gotten, I’m not sure maybe your playing style slightly gets heavier/thrasher when demoing the xotic possibly on that first changeover having had played both pedals I feel like I got different results. Can you do a demo running them through a looper with the same exact riff!
That’s the thing with pedals. They all sound different depending on all the other things (player, amp, cables, etc)
@@BuddaGuedes correct and what I am noting is that the player plays with a different attack and technique when using the xotic pedal , and then a different attack using the king of tone. A better idea to demo the pedal would be to play the same riff and put the looper before the drive pedals , so the same exact riff and technique is played through them to compare. For example I can make any pedal sound bad by little nuances of the pick
Then I wouldn’t be inspired by the pedal!!! That’s all that matters here!!
@@BuddaGuedes I guess what I’m asking is would you say your playing subconsciously sort of changes when switching to the king of tone because maybe you like the pedal more? It seems like your picking style and technique change as soon as you play a riff on the xotic pedal
That’s probably due to the feel of the pedal. That’s actually the question to me
Great démo thanks
You’re welcome
Great comparison video. For me they are like modern vs. vintage guitar, where the KoT is the vintage.
Cool review as always Budda. Just a warning shot to potential buyers, if you're using a solid state amp then make sure you try these pedals with the same amp. Some solid state amps take drives and boosters very well, others not so well.
Awesome bluesy sounding riffs
Just kept listening for the playing
NothinButDaBlues thanks a lot
Great video. KOT is just such a killer band/play with other instrument pedal :-)
It’s unbelievable and sounds great with any amp
That KOT sound very Nice!!! It doesn't really alter the sound a lot. It gives it that nice clean Gritty push! But doesn't drastically affect Mids or your sound! It doesn't push mids Like a tube screamer. Does it sound good with a Marshall slightly driven? I imagine it would. I am on the List. Ty 😬👍
The KOT sounds great with any amp. It’s a killer pedal!!!
EP Booster is also good for fattening up thinness especially needed when playing above the 12th fret. Analog Mike puts magic tone dust in each pedal. Secret...dont tell. Has to milk fairies to get it and that takes time. Going to get on that waiting list one of these days and quit messing around.
I would love to hear this set up with these pedals with the Marshall head that's behind you.
Thanks for the tip
Great video, I'm new at the pedal world and I was just searching some material about the famous King Of Tone and the notification of your channel pops up. Your explanation of the tones that you can get from the pedals is very good! Abraço do Brasil!
Thanks a lot. If you'v just found the channel you have a lot more videos to watch. Enjoy yourself and subscribe the channel. Abraço de Portugal.
@Budda Guedes i notic that you use 2.0 mm Dunlop pick ?
is it comfortablr for hybrid picking ? a.k.a chicken picking style guitar playing ?
thanks for video
I don’t play chicken picking but I’m not playing 2mm picks anymore. Now I play 1,14 or ,96
@@BuddaGuedes sorry i thought it was 2.00 mm
cheers
And I did use 2mm at the time. But now I’m using either 1,14mm or 0,96mm
I Have the KOT a few years my self. I just got the Bad Bob to put after the KOT. Holy Shit. It’s really cool. Just another layer of BooYa.
I’ve had the RC and the AC as separate pedals. I just didn’t like them. I had a OCD 1.4 after the KOT for a long time as a Clean Boost (always on). With small gain and big volume, that pedal really smokes. Great Video.
Yeah !! The OCD is one of my new favorites. I still prefere the KOT, but it’s a great one definitely!!!
Thanks for your comment
Great demo ! So, will the Oz Noy pedal will fit in Fender Deluxe reverb 65 ? Not too impressed and muddy ? I actually have the Jetter gold std but want to change...Thanks for your answer and help, kind regards from France
The oz noy pedal is very versatile due to its eq section. So I think it will fit any amp, including the great deluxe reverb.
Budda Guedes Thanks a lot..Cheers from France
Belo Blues you’re more than welcome
Bro, your guitar sounds killer.
Thanks a lot
Hi, does the Xoric can be used on one channel only ...? And stacked too ?
Belo Blues yes of course. These are2 pedals in one box
Both sound great!
That’s absolutely right!!
There’s two pedals I’ve listened to many times and have no interest in owning one. The Klon Centuar and the King of Tone are the two most overrated pedals.
Really!! The king of tone is a really good one imo
Just got my KOT - glorious! It really does sound that good!
It’s a killer pedal
When guitar players talk about ‘compression’ what are they referring to, as I don’t hear it?? Or don’t know what I’m listening for!
That’s a hard thing to explain. I’ll probably do a video on compression. In Simple words it reduces your dynamic range, making your louder playing quieter and your quieter playing louder.
I like more xotic.
:D Grande Video! :D
Obrigado
to my ears, rcac has bit of compression especially on rc side, ac side has less though
I used to own bb preamp and rc booster that have also compressions, on the other hand, king of tone is more open and natural that I prefer
LPB that’s mainly it. And the low mids on the king of tone are also lower.
AWESOME!King of tone
Thanks
Olhó Budda Guedes how's it going dude? Do you really think the AC-RC compares to the King of Tone? Abraço. Mike....PS Me, I'm Canadian mas também sou Tuga!
Eh eh. It’s not really the same but I love it!
Don’t let the hype blind you up
What hype?
Love your video! Has one of the KOT sides the higher gain mod?
Franz Spiegel no . It’s the regular one
Dig it! King of Tone for sure.
What guitar are you playing? Love it.
It’s a knaggs choptank
Is this the normal kot ? How come its so gainy?
silver the Kot is the normal one From 2007
King of tone !!!!! 😄👊🏻
thanks Budda i was dying to hear the AC-RC,great demo, what's the closest pedal you've ever heard,to the king of tone. thanks.
I've never heard any pedal that sounds like the king of tone. Although I've heard many that sound great in their own way. th difference is more about playing feel than just sound!
Budda Guedes Tapestry Audio Fab Suisse, although that's just a single pedal. However, two of them...maybe.
He's right tho. Many come close (T-Rex Moller, Snouse Black Box, UAS Blues Drive Deluxe, Anarchy Audio Gain of Tones, Visual Sound's new dual Royal Flush) - but *none* can really do the KOT thing.
Rick Moore Lovepedal Amp 11 is fairly similar, but again, it's its own thing.
I'd add the Jetter Jetdrive, my personal favourite. Not really a KOT sound, but it is smooth and rich and has just the right kind of mid push that suits me. Both sides stacked, it's gorgeous
KOT sounds damn good out of my price range sadly have tried many overdrives and boosters an a band setting and with a bit of EQ tweaking can get them all sounding pretty similar with my fender hot rod 3 if you have a decent tube amp I wouldn't get caught up in all the pedalmania going on now there's plenty of great affordable pedals out there find your tone and stick with it remember it's all in your playing first and foremost rant over
I prefer the KOT.
Two different great pedals. Thanks for your comment.

what's with the haircut??? I want my money back lol :) Cool video thanks...
aha ah
Budda, I am on the verge of buying a Lonestar classic head new from MB but I live on a little island in the Hawaiian chain (similar to Madeira which I have been to) and have not had an opportunity to play through one live.
I was particularly impressed with your demo on this lovely sounding amp... Is it as good hearing it live as it is in the video?? I play a lot of the early Santana music and I am looking for a similar tone as his ...any thoughts would be greatly appreciated....
BTW when I visited Madeira in 1962 (yes before you were born) our family was on a cruise boat and we spent a couple days anchored off shore. The divers from Madeira came out and for coins they would dive down in the beautiful water and ALWAYS came up with them... they even dived under one side and came up the other side!....When we went ashore there was a total of 5 cars on the island.... I forget the make, but only 5 black cars!:)
Jonathan Reid as for the Lonestar, it's a great amp, but it's not the closest to Santana tone. For that you should get the one with cobra skin or the Mark I or even one of the Caliber or dual caliber series. The Lonestar is fat punchy and modern in a good way. Santana tone is very compressed and distorted, but in a vintage way. And the early days it's super bright too.
As for madeira I have a lot of good friends there and love that island! I even have an amp made there. It's the one standing on top of my Lonestar head in this episode.
Thanks Budda, well I ordered it anyway cause I really love the tone I am hearing from many videos, yours included :) and as for Madeira, :) I mentioned it because the amp you had made by your friend who lives there :) Anyway, thanks for the reply and fun, informative videos I have subscribed ...
