Most people don't really appreciate the significance of this collaboration. If you grew up to this genre of music (Depeche Mode, Yazoo, Erasure...etc) this is like the founding fathers uniting.
TheUnclerickie synthpop legends
Yes it's great to see these two back together after all these years!.
Most people watching this video actually will, not many people will come across this video accidentally, chances are your a massive DM fan or Erasure fan to be watching this, and therefore more than likely know their history
@@drexlspivey5828 Neither DM nor Erasure were techno bands. DM was still synthpop whether or not Clake left! You could say early synthpop in general had a different sound, look at early OMD and Alphaville. Later eighties synthpop sound evolved into what you hear with New Order and Pet Shop Boys as well as DM and Erasure. Techno music at the time was a whole other genre which came into existence during the late eighties and nineties, mostly. And if you don't believe me, listen to Vince in this interview saying this is the first time he's delving into techno which has a very distinct sound from other synth music.
@@moreshige The original poster didn't mention anything about the style of music, he was talking about the fact it was Vince Clark and Martin Gore collaborating, they could have been making space jazz and his post would have been the same, it's not because it's techno that it's significant
It's like Superman and Batman deciding to do an interview together.
Martin is Batman
I actually love the part at around 2:53 where Martin doesn't know why he gets the erasure records early. That's honestly so lovely.
Two synth-pop icons, who defined the sound of 80s
Vince Clark is a genius, he has an exceptional talent that every band is looking for.
The things you find on youtube. I'm only 8 years late...
"From everything in the Mute catalogue, for some weird reason, I get every single Erasure release sent to me, and I literally don't get anything else."
VINCE'S FACE
HE KNOWS
I love this. Would be cool to hear Vince and Alan do something too.
"Vince brought up a fiver I owed him." Classic!
3:08 “That was me!” Classic Vince. 😂😂
I wish I had found about this when it happened and not 6 years later by a UA-cam recommendation
Same ffs
Also same
@@dadmoo12 same!
I found this today after some random googling
Same here! :)
These two are who I grew up with. Truly legends. Thank you to both!
How amazing would it be to have a Depeche album/tour with everyone on board? Vince, Alan W., Fletcher, Gore and Gahan?!?! If only...
Two music geniuses.
Legends - the pair of them.
Year 2023 and still claiming: VCMG are the Godfathers of Synthpop!
They're both noticeably much happier in each other's presence.
I think Martin and Vince are more alike than they even realize.
Yep, I was getting the same drift about them as watching this video.
Maybe that was the problem back in the day, in the absence of age, experience, and maturity (such as it is). :) If it wasn't that or a missing left big toe, then it must have been the fiver that Martin owed Vince that broke them up. Yeah, that's it! Martin had forgotten, Vince was too introverted and brooding back then to ever bring it up, and Martin was too introverted and brooding to ever ask what was wrong. It wasn't about the five quid, per se, though, it was about the whole principle of the thing. Vince couldn't stand it anymore and left. Now that he's older and, dare I say it?, wiser, he simply asked for his money back. Things could have been so different! ;)
spot on mate
Exactly.
Correct
No bravado...No ego...
Just old friends... very cool
I'm surprised that couch doesn't spontaneously combust, both so incredibly talented!
bostonredsoxxxx4ever yeah, right! bitches for music... butter wouldn't melt...
Tina Ludwig hahaha hahahaha
2 of the greatest innovative musicians of the the last 30 odd years.
Two of the greatest minds in music... These two are gods of synth... I would love to see a VCMG follow-up...
Love it when former band mates bury the hatchet and collaborate again.
And what was the hatched there in DM in 1981?
Yeah, right on.
There really wasn't a hatchet to bury. Vince just didn't like being a "pop star" at the time.
No hatchet to bury. Jeez we're a bunch of drama queen/crisis merchants these days aren't we? Sometimes people just change. No dramas. No story. Move on
"The Hatchet" was more like Vince's toe being cut off. ;D
Vince Clarke (Erasure),Martin Gore (DM),Dave Stewart (Eurythmics),Chris Lowe (PSB),Andy McCluskey (OMD)...synthesizer genius from UK,greets from Poland ;)
AND DONT FORGET .......Gary Numan
Alan Wilder!
Martin Ware too
Kordo agreed!!!!
Nick Rhodes
Two great talents.
Aside from being a genius in music, also love Vince's sense of humor and the down-to-earth personality... would like to think it is founded upon his solid musicality.
i just can get enough
I don't think I've ever seen them two make so many jokes within such a short time. Hillarious!
This is Awesome......
They are all grown up, mature and they put their talents together with no egos involved......
Spectacular.......
Vince is a cool guy. But for me Depeche Mode started for real when Alan Wilder joined. Depeche Mode would have sounded like Erasure if he stayed. No Stripped, Never Let Me Down Again and no Enjoy The Silence. That thought horrifies me!
Yep,Wilder was the man!
Couldn't agree more, although I loved the early DM stuff, the sound was too similar to Yazoo and Erasure. Imo, the DM after Wilder joined was no longer a techno/synth band...
Songs of faith with wilder is excellent but s.m has great songs after wilder left like it's no good, precious, peace
WORD 😇🙏
Go and get some medical advice, dear. The hell you need it...The stupid things you're writing down are HORRIFYING!!😂
Anyone who knows the history, & who has followed either/both of these fellas, would love this interview. Fascinating to see them together like this, just enjoying it & seemingly very content with life (as they fkin should be!). Also who would've known that they hardly "knew" each other until a couple of days before this interview......just getting to know each other....32 years later!
2 Genius of music...
Vince is the synth master! He's had a hand in the most memorable new wave bands and sounds of the 80's.
Alan Wilder is the synth master he’d be great working with Vince
I cant agree more 👍 with both of you from a French devotee since 1980 🌹 RECOIL by Alan Wilder is so underrated my oodness. Glad to know Jean Michel Jarre loves Vince Clarke and Martin with whom he has collaborated in ELECTRONICA then OXYMORE , Jean Michel s last 2 albums.
Ssss is amazing. Both musical personalities are evident in the work. I'd love to hear these two collaborate again. P.S. Thank you Daniel Miller for starting this whole thing back in the day. Mute rocks.
Two electronic legends sitting casually on a settee! Cracked up at Vinces reason for leaving DM! 😂
And Martin *toed* the line on that whopper, trying not to laugh. I dunno what this means, but there is a strong sense of conspiracy between these two.... :)
Never really watched these types of things before but as a lifelong fan of both musicians it is really heartwarming to hear two lovely funny guys in conversation. Bit lonely at the moment as abroad for a few months and this video felt like being with two mates for twenty minutes. Thank you!!
That’s a lovely sentiment. I feel the same. I loved my Depeche Mode and Yaz (in the US) LPs back in the early 80s. This little reunion feels quite comfortable.
Two musical giants!!
I never knew about this record before yesterday, and I listened through it last night. Its the best Techno record I have ever heard. Definitely playing a tune of it next time I DJ.
Love those 2 toghether. Hope they might do something in the future.
two legends together it's amazing
I am glad these two are willing and open to work together. That they have no grudges and that they are able to work on a project. Both guys have had tremendous success.
These guys are so talented, I have heard all their music since 1986 and believe they are equally talented and will be remembered forever, in the likes of Cole, Presley, Jackson, Young, and even Abba and Queen. Live on Mr Gore and Mr Clark, you were a major influence in my life, Im a better person with your music. Oh Lamour
The toe accident made me laugh out loud. Well done Vince. Good to see you two together. I appreciate the album much more these years than when it first came out.
👏👏👏👏👏🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱👍👍👍👍 grupos fantasticos y canta bien . sigue para adelante ⭐⭐⭐⭐ , Saludos desde Chile
Reunion together this time, reunion forever be mine
Love these guys

LOL! Vince had me going with the Big Toe story!
Talented people.
This is legendary, two greats together on one sofa having a laugh on :D
Nice to see them back together.
I have a Dream…. Martin, Alan, Vince and Dave together…. This would sound unbelivable. a whole album. What ever it costs. No Timeline, no Projectmanagement… only Fun. Its not to late. It is realy not to late…
Last I listend to this Alan Wilder Remix of Chain…. It was a Moment of fresh, skill, depeche mode. Like heard Depeche Mode the first time in 1987..
Vince, Martin, hands down, two of my HEROES :) I was thrilled when I heard they were collaborating :)
Seeing these 2 legends here and now, back to Depeche Mode in the 80's is a unbelievable reality of how Time of life really does fly by in style and friendships.
30 years of success but still humble. Inspiring.
I thought the thumbnail was a ventriloquist and his dummy.
2 genios
Fantastic interview...
Alan wilder was so talented !
Apart from this album being amazing I just love these guys
I just got to know about Vince Clark a few days ago after watching DM videos being hung over from their concert last week. Really appreciate both their work, and sense of humor!
I love this collab. How could you not?
This video is the perfect remedy if you're ever feeling down :D
JG and the Robots likes your comment very much.
Robot like!! Woo hoo! Thanks man :)
EEE! Martin's smile is so cute!
He got new beautiful teeth but I loved him with his crooked teeth😘😘😘
Genius!!
Still get the shivers when I hear your songs! Let the good times roll!
Brilliant Album. I've already remixed it cause I love the sounds. I've met Vince twice now and both times we didn't speak lol.
THE ORIGINATORS
So nice it has come full circle and the two guys who met as teenagers and went on to great success have re united...
self-actualization is what I see in that interview. they are so cool.
i love this récord it has a sound that today still sound futuristic
and i thank you... for bringing this video!!!
so perfect to see this to legend together in this great interview...
Unbelievable. Thanks for posting. Gave me chills.
both epic musicians. Depeche mode and what Martin helped so much to shape. Vince and Andy bell from erasure. my God pure happiness

Humbling interview
I cant believe Vince looks the very same as he did when i first sacw. Yazoo in Germany in the 80s.He still looks bored to tears when hes laying down incredible dance songs.
Great video. Thanks for the upload.
2:35 great question! love how Vince starts grinning when Martin brings up Erasure releases.
Love love love these guys!!!!!
I love both Depeche Mode and Erasure, they are my housegods! Working together (like before) must become superfantastic! Never stop making perfect music guys, because without you I can't live on. Sincerely Per Persson, Sweden :)
