Biggest mistake was equipping the persian persuader with the default loadout, thinking it was just a skin
when i was a kid and i played this game like years ago i thought unlocks worked the same as stock and were just skins
@@Nieveria When I first started I thought weapon unlocks were upgrades to stock instead of sidegrades. So I always used whatever new weapon I got without even checking the stats, which in turn, made me use the brass beast offensively on several occasions. Needless to say, I died a lot.
@@Kaledrone same
no your biggest mistake was not reading
@@Kaledrone brass beast is a good weapon for offense sometimes, especially in payload. The cart is basically a moving dispenser, it heals you and gives you ammo, also try to use The Dalokohs Bar it, recharges faster than the sandwich and gives you an extra 50 hp combined with The Brass Beast from what I heard the Damage resistance starts earlier because Damage resistance starts if you drop below 50% HP, and 50% of 350 HP is 175 instead of 50% of 300 HP is 150, so snipers have to charge up 2 shots before they can kill you. Or you can use shotguns for your secondary for a quick attack, The Panic Attack is a good choice because they switch faster, and has 50% more bullets which deals more total damage than the stock even with the 20% Damage penalty. The Family Business is a good secondary too, because it has a bigger Clip and a faster firing speed. The Second Banana is not too good, mostly viable when there are no Medics, Dispensers, or Carts. The Sandvich isn't that great with The Brass Beast because it recharges too slow but it is probably useful if there are no Medics only. The Buffalo Stake Sandvich is not recommend, it is almost useless because it melee weapon locks you, unless you are planning as last resort attack or retreat (Slight speed boost from eating it) this weapon sould be replaced with a more matching weapon. The best Melee is mostly depends on the current round/game and your own personal taste and skill. The Gloves of running urgently is great for getting to the Objective quickly after you died, or to Run away after you are hurt, but the Mini crits are a downside of you are on fire. The Fist of Steel are good for retreating or pushing, it is also good for medic to build Uber, but if you're in close quarter combat people who've at least read the stats of the weapon will know that melee does 100% more damage and might target you, especially Scouts, Demokights, Spies, other Heavies, and Pyros also as side note watch out for Ullapool Cabers they deal an extra explosion damage especially when they charge with shields, also you have a 40% less over heal and heal rate from Medics so lookout. The Killing Gloves of Boxing is not too useful unless in close quarters because after a melee kill it gives 100% guarantee criticals even if you switch weapons. The Eviction Notice is not useful if combined with The Brass Beast, because you need to hit your enemy first for a speed boost.
Side note, Stock melee and Secondaries are safe options if you aren't sure.
Also try becoming a shield for your team, become a barrier if there's and Uber push make them focus you, because of your Damages resistance you are basically a slow moving tank you can help your team retreat or hold the enemy team off from killing your entire team, if only you died but the ready of your team lives it will be all worth it, especially if your medic survives the enemy push.
Also for Medics healing Brass Beast Heavies, try using The Vacinator, The Quick Fix, or The Kirtzgkrieg. The Vaccinator Has a Shield for 3 Damage sources (Fire Damage, Bullet Damage, and Explosive Damage) this can increase their Damage resistance. The Kirtzgkrieg Charges up faster than stock, it also gives out 100% Criticals when fully charged, combined it with Yhe Brass Beastit increases the Damage Significantly and kills as quick as a Pyro with Criticals but with range. The Quick Fix Heals them faster and almost Negates the 40% less healing from healers penalty, also it charges quick and has a quick healing when fully charge and makes them immune to knockback, just watchout for spies when charging because they can still backstab you, the Quick Fix makes you resistant not Immortal.
Using the scottish resistance offensively is also a huge mistake.
worst part is blowing yourself up while detonating a trap somewhere else cuz you forgot that the 4 stickies under you exist
@@two-facedhypocrite3809 That is badically what he said. You can't spam, which is good for offensive tactics, but you can makd good traps, which is good for defence
I like to use it for offense when I'm just goofing around. It's a bit deeper than it seems. Spamming right on enemy position when both teams are fighting at medium range makes them: a) reposition b) do smth with stickies. a) is good if you force them to leave good position and b) is good if it's not pyro who's dealing with them. If it's not pyro, it'd soldiers most of the time. One or two rockets scatter stickies around. Is it good that enemy soldier shot 1 or 2 rockets to stickies and not your team? Kinda yeah, but you waste your time and stickies for his rockets, so it seems it's not worth it. Until you notice that MOST of the soldiers try to disarm it. And now it's a trade of 6-8 stickies to 2-6 rockets. And your stickies dont just brake, they still can do some damage or area control.
But it doesnt make sense if they have pyro or heavy who pay attention to them, so, whatever. Still for goofing around. Fun to use at the start of final dustbowl round on pushing team where you can get that angle to spam that saafe zone with a ladder where defending team usually have a dispenser. Just to spray some PANIC
not necessarily
It's good for dealing with an Engie-focused team
@@two-facedhypocrite3809 Yes, you probably did. But don't worry, anybody can misunderstand sometimes, that's just how it is.
As a demomain, i see lots of other demos overextending and taking fights that are pretty much impossible to win. Being able to retreat to your team or so helps quite a lot.
Also, keeping track of your stickies is improves your gameplay a lot
That kinda goes for the wole class selection
Sticky bombing both entrances in Fort2 is fun!
It's okay. They're drunk, they have an excuse.
Wait... so you're saying one CAN'T sticky jump off of an entire clip of stickies?
No. You can't. It damages you, so using too much will kill you.
Technically you can sticky jump with the entire clip, but like the Beggar's Bazooka, you're trajectory will be unpredictable. And also you'll be dead ig
*laughs in stickie jumper
I mean you can, you'll just end up in multiple places instead of one place. Followed by respawn.

As for deflection, I play a lot of Pyro, and something I almost never see is rolling grenades. I once saw a demo bounce a pill off a wall in response to a reflect. Needless to say, I was caught REALLY off guard.
Roll your shots, guys. It’s surprisingly effective.
Y'know, I basically do this with solly by aiming to hit splash instead of directs.
Why didn't I think of this sooner?
how many arrows have you deflected?
@@gordonrams_into4539 none
Makes sense since demos usually need to aim high a little to lob their grenades, so mixing in some rolling ones would help to at least divide attention up or down
That is some Josuke Higashikata level battle IQ dawg… who just thinks of that after getting reflected once?
The Quickiebomb launcher is so incredibly underrated imo. It's just so good to be able to hit people from miles away just for the downside of not being able to make sticky traps. It's pretty much just a secondary loose cannon when you think about it.
Theres a lot more nuance to it
It would be op if the onl proble were traps
Great vid Mr. Toofty. My biggest fail that ive done in a match or pub. This is when one forgets where one has placed sticky traps and det and kill myself..... something that ive done once... or twice and maybe still do sometimes...

Few extra tips I want to tell anyone learning Demoman. Part 1
-When you need to reload but your team is bad keeping the pressure especially at choke I recommend just shooting 3-4 stickies on floor in obvious place and they will act as "mental barrier" for you to deter enemies charging on you (close combat is demos biggest weakness) because whenever we see stickies on the ground we take few seconds to analyze the situation and try to avoid the unnecessary damage but by the time somebody might airblast them or shoot them with explosives you'll be reloaded and ready to fight more.
-There are no rules in when to use stickies and when to use pipes but deep in the core Demoman is still a defense class so try to use stickies as the defense and pipes as offense spamming tool. So for example if you setup the sticky trap around you and you might miss all the pipes or somebody catches you while reloading you can always lure them near your trap and kill them.
-As for Pyros I recommend not dealing with them because Pyro is an expert in close combat and my best tip is to just try wasting their ammo by giving them stickies to reflect from a safe place, this way when some of your team mate surprises them they will most likely run out of ammo and in that "oh damn, _I'm out of ammo" panic they will die much easier. Of course this is useless if Pyro is near dispenser and guarding a Sentry lol. Stock Pyro has 10 airblasts while the Degreaser has only 8. And if you bait 6-7 he's already at big disadvantage.
-And last one is to never fully deplete your clip especially on your pipe launcher, spam 2 then just reload. Wasting clip is just asking somebody charging and surprising you while you have no way to defend yourself.
Damn, in a casual match I made a mistake, rushing the pyro lol. Thanks for these tips
@@DeliveryGuyMan I almost never rush a pyro no matter what.
I do, however, use all my pills. I probably shouldn't, so this is helpful to probably everyone.
0:38 Dat Kill Tho
The Meme, The Legend of the DemoPan continues . . .
I wonder what happened to that red spy that turned into a blu scout lol
aweee he dead
He decloak
Also as a medic main, if someone is continuously healing you (even with a quick fix) and you're fully reloaded, that's a subtle hint to NOT just sticky jump miles ahead and get some sneaky attacks from behind, because there's most likely no other heavy classes nearby that could be healed instead, or there's something close ahead like a sentry which is best dealt with by a demo. Medics are like cats, if they're being unusually loyal they're usually trying to get you to do something for them.
However if you're really far back on a long map and you're being healed you should sticky jump anyway, even if the medic doesn't have the quick fix. Because most likely, the medic will catch up eventually.
i love the medic-cat analogy
Biggest demo mistake for me was liking the loch n load.
Now i'm stuck with an underpowered grenade launcher :c
It does have a niche where demo counters engi nests even harder cuz 2 shotting a lvl 3 50 meters away is stupidly good.
Not really underpowered. I like it a lot and I feel like you could destroy people if you know how to use it in the right situations.
You think the lock n load is underpowered?
It has a stat were fellow demos and the entire server will not respect you at all!
Perfect for scumbags and scunts turned demos!
@@scoutbite4334 Funny, another demo once respected me for using the loch n load instead of everyones favourite the iron bomber, which is clearly the better weapon
@@seven4221
Thats odd because the lock an load has a 20% faster projectile speed (because you cant hit pills) were as the iron bomber rewards you for carefully placed rollers and an actual brain

I once charged a sticky and it was a random crit, the enemy medic didnt even know what what happened him when he suddenly got killed by a demo from the other side of the map
Did you say sorry at least? Random crits are the worst
As an experienced demomain I will have to agree with some of the mistakes in this current video and I would like to add one more which is: not going demoman. Yes I said it, it's a mistake because it's not like sniper, if you have 5 demos at least average skill level you have higher chances of winning a pub. Of course if you have at least 1 med.
Though the medic would probably suffer from the constant yelling of "MEEEEDIIIIC!"
@Brian Treves Yeah 6 demos soldiers or heavy and a med could win but not sure about pyro
Pro tip: play hybrid all the time, then you can have fun headhunting AND contribute in sentry demolition. If your loadout can do everything then no need to change :)
me too mate
Here’s the loadout, iron bomber, tide turner and cleadhmor
If the Demoman's grenade launcher wasn't nerfed to the point where you can only 2-shot light classes if you hit them directly, can no longer blast jump using pipes, can't take advantage of physics to bounce a grenade into a target instead of aiming for them directly, then this would probably be the meta Demoman strategy.
@@ashtongiertz8728 try using iron bomber, you can easily blast jump on it and can predict where target will be hurt by non-direct grenade you put (allowing to use it for zoning)
@@ashtongiertz8728 I'm pretty sure the pipes can still 2 shot 8 of the 9 classes
This was like 5 years ago when I first started playing tf2, I would spam pills underneath the enemies and didn't know they explode on impact, and yes its a grenade launcher but I didn't know what a grenade launcher was and what it does back then haha.

The precautionary reload sticky is a great tip and I'm very glad to have watched for it. Thanks a ton and keep up the great content!
3:08 - "reload, Dr Toofty!"
I think I have the opposite of not reloading and think I reload too often/Long. I find myself in a situation where the enemy is pushing and my team is trying to hold them back, I have like 3 stickies loaded and I would just run away or behind a corner to maintain the faster reloading instead of trying to help the team
Loved those little animations done on the mistakes, like the word fall falling into its place.

One of my more common mistakes as a demoman, well hybrid knight/full demoknight was getting use to the "New" charge change. What I am refering to is that before you could Crit at any time as soon as your charge ended so if you timed it right you could do a max dmg shield bash crit swing combo, but now you have to travel a certain distance with your charge before a crit will be given.

This was really helpful! I need to practice sticky jumping a bit more, but also need to be able to reload at correct times.
If you watch some pro competetive matches, of habib for example, that helps to know when approx to reload
I would say finding your channel but to be honest this channel I think I needed to find because I want to main all classes
I have this habit to shoot a sticky at my feets while walking backwards if I'm getting chased.
I believe I got that habit from always finding myself in a situation were taking out melee is too slow and I don't want to hurt myself with a direct pill because enemy player is too close to me.
It's a 50/50 chance most of the time if it will actually be effective or not, some players go in for melee and are too close for the arming time to finish before they already stepped over it.
What are you guys opinions on this habit?
When learning Demoman, I died a lot from the hands of the enemy due to this habit. So I wouldn't recommend it.
I do this sometimes and it's GREAT, I like using the Quickie Bomb Launcher a lot because of the faster charging speed and the arm time. So when I place stickies at my feet they would be already to explode because of the arm time. I suggest you use the technique if you're using the Quickie Bomb Launcher.

Man, thanks a lot! I played terrebly with demoman and but you really helped me being a better demoman.
👍
I knew the quickie had increased charge speed, but I didn't know it did increased damage.
More on how to combat pyros when baiting them out. The airblast has a short cooldown, so you basically have a safe firing period in between the airblasts. Most pyros will get into a rhythm of clicking to deflect after the first airblast, so you can just keep firing at them once you're positioned between the inverval.
So glad ur back toof
me too!
I'm late,but here's a summary of the video:
1. Reduce fall damage-place stickies on the wall instead of on the ground, detonate them a bit later than usual or land or any type of ramp. You will not fly as high, but you won't break your legs upon landing.
2. Frequently reload the weapons-not much to say here,do it after retreating or some Scout will make use of that and kill you with 2 shots in your face while you're helpless at the battlefield.
3. Don't camp using stickies- avoid just standing there for a few minutes waiting for the Heavy+Medic combo to get anihilated by your UGC Highlander level sticky trap, later they'll find a way to approach you from a different angle and kill you. Just make a trap and move on,try to make yourself look busy so the enemy won't be aware you've prepared a trap.
4. Charge the stickies- hold the left mouse button,so you will launch the stickies further.
5. Use maximum 3-4 stickies when preparing a trap-that should do the job,by launching bigass amount 8 stickies you'll waste ammo. Try spreading them as well,so you'll cover the larger areas and kill more people.
6. Aim your shots-by slowly improving your aim you'll just get more kills and an advantage in 1v1 fights as well. Applies to every class.
7.Switch the weapons- either your primary or secondary can prove more useful when fighting specific classes. Also you don't want to die like an idiot by blowing yourself up when the enemy is meleeing you, right?
8.Counter the airblasting- change the rhythm of shooting grenades, fake the shots by jiggling your primary or attack the Pyro with stickies. Also this can really put your Demoknight skills to test,so good luck.
9. Target the sentries-you're possibly the most effective class when it comes to destroying the buildings,so just go for them. Don't expect these 4 gibus Spies to do all the job for you.
10. Switch to Demoknight only when the enemy team is not completely filled with problematic classes-by saying that I mean classes like Heavy, turtling Engineers or airblasting Pyro. They can easily counter you,so consider switching back to Demoman when the situation calls for it.
100% thankfuly that you mentioned taking out sentries.
I know the Spy has the sapper, but Demo can deal with nests SO much better. A few stickies and that Engie is sweating.
I’m really happy that Toofty continues to make tf2 vids i can barely find vids that are new if i search up tf2 but when i go to toofty there is always a vid i haven’t watched waiting for me
thanks this really helped me becoming good at demo
9:08 that spy was so convincing
In the early days of me playing demo i would stick spam at my feet while backing up cuz i couldn't hit pipes but one time a pyro ignored the stickies walked to me as it detonated and was launched to me, long story short, i died
Lol, funni
I remember when I first decided to main Demo, the biggest mistake I made was never using stickies. I never used them, mostly because of the stereotype around it. I would always be Iron Bomber/Loose Cannon, Tide Turner, and a basically random melee weapon. Now that I've been using stickies more, I see just how many sticky situations they can get a Demo out of, or allow you to kill someone at long range that even a charge couldn't get to.
Toofty you are seriously one of the best if not the best tf2 content creator, I don't understand how you don't have more subs. Great source of information and very good quality content
Btw what can I buy with a toofty buck?
my worst mistake with demoman was trying to destroy a sentry WITH THE STICKY JUMPER
7:39. Scout launches heavy into you lol
This may be gonna translated immediately!!! amazingly high qualities and quantites for someone who is new at demo thx again for good vid Toofty!
Thanks Donking!
my worst error as demoman was to use my 8 sticky trap to run away when the uber was to run out because we were surrounded by enemies :'c
rip medic
Performing a sticky jump by just crouching is a good way to perform short, quick jumps with a lot of forward momentum.
It's especially effective with the Sticky Jumper if you know your way around pipes.
Awesome content!
It's so weird. I mainly use the Quickie Launcher and charge stickies all the time. But when I switch to the Stock Launcher, I completely forget charging existed at all.
Did not expect a FRAG sponsor
As a pyro main, I hate how some just ignore the sentries and there's me hiding near a door waiting for someone to sap it, distract it or destroy it.
Nice a can buy probably some bubbling heavy unusual for that Toofty buck. Thanks
One thing I learned that ties in with that "always charge a sticky" thing:
If you don't need that sticky, quickly swap to your grenade launcher, it will end the charge and you won't lose a sticky for no reason.
thx for saying it in this video, and i will like to note i wish that sticky could become a permanent primary for demo, some demo mains even use it as primary over the pipe
and in return give it smg's like sniper forcing them to make more of those :( shame only 2 in game or simply go the lazzy route and give him pistol
one of the only times i got a kill was (in class wars) when i was charging into a bunch of snipers defending the last point of the first round and i fired a crit pill
Also funny way to deal with m2 pyro is: shoot 1-2 pipes, now he probably expecting you will continue, then... Uhmm... Charge into his face with bottle and get random crit?) That's working sometimes, + charging targe is -50% pyro damage
Wot makes me a bad Demoman?
If I were a good Demoman I wouldn't be here sticky-jumping the wrong way, now would I?!
Legit I’ve played 100 hours of tf2, with demo being my most played class and I didn’t know about the sticky charge thing...mainly because I don’t use the sticky often. I mainly use the jumper, or even a shield.
Have you watched/played the Tutorial on TF2?
It's worth mentioning booties + stickybomb launcher! It's fallen out of fashion these days, but the extra health can be a lifesaver in situations where you don't need your grenade launcher as much.
The biggest mistake I always make as Demoman is forgetting which primary weapon is which. I'll shoot my sticky bomb launcher thinking I have my grenade launcher out and be confused as to why my grenades are just bouncing off enemies and not going ka-boooooom!
Relatable
Once while trying out demo and defending the cart (I did a crap job) a scout kept flanking us and killing teammates from behind, but after two or three deaths to him, I realized the gate he was coming from, so I place stickybombs on the base of the gate opening. A medic and soldier were planning to push through the gate while using über, and I can see this because they were behind the gate, but then the scout ran in for another round of kills, and while I was fighting (more like shooting aimlessly) I was watching the gate, and detonated as the scout came through, killing the scout, and hurting the medic and soldier, then I replaced the trap quickly, and all this made them disengage the über flank. Many may have been able to pull this off, but damn it felt good
My game crashed so I don’t know if we won or not
THE RANDOM CRIT FRYING PAN AT 0:40 KILLED ME 😂😂😂
i did the demoman tutorial in the game where it TELLS you about charging up shots, and i still don't use it. although that might be because i mostly use the sticky jumper
Using the quickiebomb launcher also makes bad habits when using other stickies
