One of the earlier season Greg opines how Alex created the show but hides behind him to make all the decisions. I think it's so he can be directly involved in the tasks.
I just realized we never got to see what Mel did with all the wax seals.
She did mention in one of the later episodes that she was planning to melt them down. It was something of a throwaway moment and I'm not going to try to track it down, though.

@@iwonttellmynametoamachine5422 That's certainly possible. I only remember them showing her saying what she intended to do with them once and a whole lot of her saying that she would save them for later, but I don't claim to have a perfect memory, only a fairly good one.
@@benjaminmiddaugh2729 She said it a couple times, I think. I know she said it one of the first times, that she was gonna melt em down and use them later. So, a candle or her own wax seals of some kind.
@@AAGEnzee As I said, I won't guarantee that my memory of that one small detail of the show is accurate. That said, I would have collected them just to have a nice collection of wax logograms. If I wanted to use my own wax seals, I'd do it the modern (glue gun) way. Which, incidentally, if you haven't encountered glue-gun sealing wax - it's a really nice way to get into sealing wax (supposedly mail sorting machine resistant, although I have yet to test that) and relatively low fuss. It does tend to tie up a hot glue gun, though.
Seeing Nish chip the basketball in one and then have all his other attempts be shown afterwards has just about the same energy as Joe Wilkinson tossing a potato into a hole.

Laughed just as hard at that comment as anything I've seen on this episode.
Something that hadn't dawned on me until this rewatch, Nish is so willing to be the butt of a joke. On the basketball task when they showed the clip of him chipping it in, he started celebrating in the studio like Joe Wilkinson did when he threw the potato into the golf hole. The difference is, Nish did this KNOWING full well how badly he'd fucked it and just willingly committed to the bit so the punchline would be that much better. What a hero.
The greatest comedians are always willing to be the butt of the joke, and/or let someone else get the laugh. Just like Gracie Allen and Jack Benny.
On the Taskmaster podcast, he said producers told him they'd "done some editing" on that task but that he'd like what they did. He knew he'd get exposed but said he wanted to experience glory for at least a second so he went with it while he could.
He is truly last in phys ed and first in being a legend.
Nish Kumar seems like he'd actually be fun to know in person.

A little trivia for this episode: Alex Horne had a nosebleed in the middle of the studio recording which allowed Greg and the guests to have a fun chat with the audience while he got it taken care of, but delayed the next recording (they record two-a-day) quite a bit.

I love the contrast between the innocent earlier seasons and the latest ones, you can see the tasks gradually evolve to resemble online Terms and Agreements.
There's a couple of reasons Tim Key (Series One contestant) is credited as a consultant on the later seasons, one is so Alex Horne could bounce ideas off him in the pub, the other is so Alex can ask "And how would you cheat at this task?"
Bob Mortimer seems so amused with everything around him, he enjoys himself all the time and in turn the audience always enjoys him

The Special Cuddle task is one of my favorites in the history of Taskmaster. Each of their cuddles were completely unique.
Sally: Sociopathic
Aisling: Disturbing sex robot
Mark: Nervous romantic energy
Nish: Traditional cuddle with a softer head rest
Bob: Kidnapping victim
The one thing i love most about Nish fluke was that he let himself be celebrated knowing fully well how many attempts he actually took :D
I love how he kept going despite being genuinely bad at it. Like, most of his attempts were not even close. Comparedd to Bob's 3 attempts, which were all genuinely close to the hoop.
Nish's constant giggling in the studio throughout the series, makes it so rewatchable

"Give Alex a cuddle" was an unusual task, and then I found out Alex is actually the show's main writer, and this changes everything.
When you start watching this series and you see Bob Mortimer, you think “well, we got our unhinged contestant for the series “. Then Sally Phillips molest Alex Horne with a chocolate cake and I realize that the universe no longer makes any sense.

From an American to an Englishman I must say, I have absolutely fallen in love with your show Alex. It reminds me of the glory days of Whose Line is it Anyways.
Which was another UK show that moved to the US.

Every new season I tell myself I’m not going to like the new cast as much as the old cast. But I love them all 😭
While Nish's recording was not ideal, I have to say his laughter in the background and the way he curls into himself with mirth adds days to my lifespan.
Everyone loves the comedians, but I think what makes the show is the absolutely brilliant editing and cinematography.
The bromance between Mark and Nish in this series was great to see. They need to be in Buddy film together, a sort of latter-day "Trains, Plane, and Automobiles". Great chemistry, and genuinely endearing, the both of them.
They just need to release a montage of all their moments together
Missing Noel and Joe/Hugo already... but that doesn't mean I'm not enjoying this crew as well

Funny that the series started with Nish bringing his laugh as an "excellent noise" because honestly he brought a level of joy to series 5 that was the highlight of it.

I donno why but watching Sally and Alex together in the cuddling task made me feel like they should be playing a couple somewhere on some tv show
Are you me? I had the exact same thought when I watched that scene lol.
It's amazing how hard (as much as I enjoy him) Noel Fielding tries for maniacal whimsy yet in the very first episode of the next season Aisling Bea, Sally Phillips and Bob Mortimer scream past him without trying.
Noel has a reputation for being wacky and whimsical and strange in that way, and he definitely is and can be - hell, he was a radioactive skeleton for most of the Season 4 tasks - but he's honestly such a teddy bear. The finale of Season 4 was amazing because by that point, everybody in the cast had clearly bonded and had an excellent time. Everybody won at least once, even Hugh and Lolly, who looked like they were the bottom-feeders from the start, and their reactions and celebrations were true "underdog story" moments. Mel, Noel, and Joe were over the moon for them.
Seeing Noel and Mel hug and cuddle constantly throughout Season 4, plus all of them just sharing a good time by the end, meant that a heavy dose of the whimsicality and wackiness was pretty sidelined by how much fun, games, and love was going on in the room, especially with the message Lolly wrote next to her duck.
Now, everybody in THIS cast was going for sheer psychopathy or at least severe mental illness off-the-bat and god is it just as delightful.
Who else is binge watching from quarantine? This series is great. This is the one time the algorithm has not disappointed.

Everytime I start a new series of of taskmaster I feel uncomfortable because I got so attached to the last series contestants and I don’t know any of the new contestants.
I hope we get more and more of Aisling’s little victory dances as the series progresses

@@Brahlam There was one episode of taskmaster where the goal was to throw a potato into a golf-goal sized hole, without touching a circular mat surrounding said hole in the shortest time possible. The intended trick was that contestants can in fact get something else to move the mat so they could get closer to the hole, but one of the contestants just threw it and got it in on his first try. Unfortunately his soles barely touched the mat so he was disqualified, but otherwise it was one of the hypest moment of that season.

Back when I started watching this show for the first time and heard Nish laughing, I thought "Ugh, this guy is going to annoy me pretty quick". But I'm happy to say I was wrong. Love that guy! If they ever do a "Viewer's Choice" special, I want him to come back!
They should have a Worse of the Worse. To compliment Champions of Champions. They could have Alice Levine, Joe Wilkinson , Nish Kumar, Phil Wang and David Baddiel. I don't know about you but that is a hilarious group of mediocrity. I really loved Nish's attitude through the whole series. He really seemed like he was having fun. Didn't care he was loosing and was great at laughing at himself.

Having your name sung by an opera singer to the tune of the Taskmaster theme is 12 times less awkward than having the happy birthday song flung at you in a reasonably busy restaurant.
I come back to this series the most I think (even though I also really love acaster's) because the comedic chemistry in this group is honestly next level. Bob and Sally are iconic and make my cheeks hurt from smiling so much
Omg this might be my favorite episode so far. The cuddle one made me laugh soooooo much. So did the elegant one. And the fake one shot. Opera singing the theme at the end is a nice touch too! All in all, love everything about this ep!
