Wow. I actually loved this video, it was easy to understand but not simplified enough to lose any valuable information. One thing I noted is you could have added why Russia wanted to sell Alaska (why they needed the money). Though I already know the reason, it could be useful for less informed people. But overall, this was a great video, especially considering how little subscribers you have. I'm definitely subscribing.
Alaska wasn't producing money for Russia, and since it was very far from Russia's population center and only a few hundred Russians lived there, Russia couldn't really defend it. After the Crimean War ended in 1856, Russia needed money and was afraid that their rival Great Britain would take Alaska. So they sold it to the US to try to counterbalance Great Britain's growing influence.
Columbus wrote his journals in Spanish, and referred to the region he traveled to "las Indias," which is translated "the Indies" in English. The Indies refers to a large area that includes South and Southeast Asia and includes modern-day India. So Columbus said he had reached the Indies and he thought that he was close to what we call India today. The name India has been in use in Greek since the 5th century BC, and appeared in Old English by the 9th century, and came back into use in English in the 17th century, but the exact meaning of the term has changed over time.
When Christopher Columbus landed in the Americas, he thought he had reached the “East Indies” leading to the misapplication of the term "Indian" to the indigenous people of the Americas

Whether you love or hate the US, it is currently #1 in many objective measures. Notably it has the largest economy and strongest military in history. It also currently leads the world in technology and innovation (such as number of patents) and it is the leading global cultural influence. The fact that the US has the 3rd largest population in the world helps it rank number 1 in many categories.
Yeah, I know Wales isn't England. I oversimplified that part since it wasn't the focus of the video. I'll add a note about it in the description for the sake of completeness.
... the process might have had accidents along the way but make no mistake, every expansion, innovation, and power move was done with intent. We americans are in fact not stumbling baffoons, we just act like it sometimes.

Columbus called the inhabitants "Los Indios" which is Spanish for "Indians." Maybe you are referring to the fact that America was named after Amerigo Vespucci?
There is some visual similarity in the fact that both videos have a skit with Britain talking to America. They are both are describing the same historical events. But the lines are definitely different. The Real Story: "Britain had also spent lots of money on the war and now they needed money. 'Hey colonies, you know that expensive war we helped you win ... and by the way, we're going to start collecting lots and lots of taxes to pay for all the help we give you.'" OverSimplified: "They were now broke, in a lot of debt, and had to come up with some way to repay it. So they went to the Colonies and said, 'Okay listen up. So a huge part of the war was spent protecting you from the French. And now we have no money ... Okay, we're just going to go ahead and tax you.'"
Technically America is the richest, but they also have the worlds largest crippling debt because of WW1, WW2, the Vietnamese war, etc. I know this because my dad is a history teacher.
3:27 This is wrong, Spain was on the French side but Britain allowed Spain to have it in exchange for the British getting Florida and the rest of the French North American territories
Spain entered the war in support of France in 1762, and Spain was promised Louisiana in the secret Treaty of Fontainebleau (1762). In the Treaty of Paris (1763), both France and Spain released claims to lands east of the Mississippi River, including Spanish Florida, and Britain agreed to restore the land it had conquered in Cuba to Spain. So if you read the treaty [en.wikisource.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Paris_(1763)] you can see that the exchange was Florida for Cuba, and France kept the lands west of the Mississippi, which it had already promised to Spain. The secret Treaty of Fontainebleau was not revealed until 1764.
True. Spain ceded the Philippines to the US and the US paid Spain 20 million dollars. But Filipino revolutionaries had recently declared independence which the US did not recognize. President McKinley instructed the secretary of war to "benevolently assimilate" the Philippines: "In fulfillment of the rights of sovereignty thus acquired and the responsible obligations of government thus assumed [by the treaty between the US and Spain], the actual occupation and administration of the entire group of the Philippine Islands become immediately necessary, and the military government heretofore maintained by the United States in the city, harbor, and bay of Manila is to be extended with all possible dispatch to the whole of the ceded territory. ... It will be the duty of the commander of the forces of occupation to announce and proclaim in the most public manner that we come, not as invaders or conquerors, but as friends, to protect the natives in their homes, in their employments, and in their personal and religious rights. ... Finally, it should be the earnest and paramount aim of the military administration to win the confidence, respect, and affection of the inhabitants of the Philippines by assuring to them in every possible way that full measure of individual rights and liberties which is the heritage of free peoples, and by proving to them that the mission of the United States is one of benevolent assimilation, substituting the mild sway of justice and right for arbitrary rule." (www.presidency.ucsb.edu/documents/executive-order-132) The conflict between the aims of the revolutionary forces and the US led to the Philippine-American War (1899-1902).
Of course they had no idea. They were just interested in the fertilizer. But some of those islands turned out to be strategic during the war in the Pacific.
