This is the only research that I think should be working. For me, out of all the agonizing deaths by disease in human history, rabies takes the top spot. I have seen children shrieking and helplessly asking for water only to throw it out, hydrophobia. It's game over when it reaches the brain. The symptoms are endless and all are painful: itching, tingling, rashes, localized numbness, spasms, seizures, hydrophobia, photophobia, aggressive convulsions, infected saliva, paralysis, coma, and finally death. The worst part of them all is that it's slow and painful, like a death sentence. If this gene therapy cure works for breaking the blood-brain barrier, then rabies can be stopped before it reaches the brain. I'll be waiting for clinical trials and further active tests to cure, then maybe this can be rolled out so that rabies can be finished just like smallpox one day. I offer prayers for everyone who has suffered from this illness in the past, present, or future.
