    Excellent video. The guidance on spreading the gravel was very helpful. I’ve been missing the point about spreading in forward motion. This will work great with my MX 5200 with LA1065 loader. The technique of pre-calculating the loader height just never occurred to me. Thank You !!!

    Excellent grading job Toby. You sure make laying out the geotextile fabric and spreading gravel on top look easy. But I know how difficult it is. Your excellent grading job on the sand and your ability operating the tractor are second to none. You take great pride in everything you do. Your videos are a joy to watch. Thanks

    Thank you for posting these great videos. The building is wonderful. You thought process to eliminate problems dealing with water and the ease of moving things in and out of the building in the future is great. I tried to do this with my building when I put it up. I found out that there is still room for improvement. Thanks for the great tips on how to hold soil in place. Can't wait for the next video. Have a great day.

    I'm also a firm believer in that woven geotextile. I've used it many years ago in a massive home paver driveway project. Today, in another home I live in, I need the 20+ year Asphalt driveway ripped up and a proper Asphalt driveway installed starting with geotextile, 6 inches limestone 2A (crush and run) the 3 inches in all of Asphalt. I've had 3 or 4 Asphalt driveway companies come out for estimates. They all insist I use crushed used Asphalt as my base and have no clue what I'm talking about when I say geotextile. The old drive was laid directly over sandyloam, here in West Michigan, and the companies just want a quick payday doing the same. IlLooks like I'm going to be my own general contractor to get this new driveway project done properly.
    Oh, and that used crushed Asphalt smells like a Petroleum Distillery for those that haven't been near it before.

No shed is ever big enough to hold everything we collect after it's built. I'm looking forward to seeing how you fit out the interior as everyone as different ideas that will suit there individual needs.

    6:59 hm... any big boulders left? You could try and split a few in half. It's not a difficult task, and you can use dexpan instead of the usual method. That's who my brother and i do it whenever we stumble upon a megalith sized stone in the fields. If you drill the wholes straight, they pop pretty flat. Could be a cheap way to make a flat, solid surface to take up the slack until you decide to use concrete.

    While it's quite obvious in the video that you did do an important step in your laying of the geo mat, but you didn't call it out in the video. Important for anyone following this as a guide that you DID go back and tuck the downhill piece you rolled out under the uphill piece you had previously laid and left a bit of flap without gravel on the upper section.
    I'm still "second guessing" your choice of rock boxes vs. gutter. I tried that too. Ultimately, I found that heavy rains caused a lot of washout and cutting. Everything got mixed and the walls of my shed were covered in splash marks and dirt. I went with seamless gutters set at the same slope as the roof with Gutter Glove Pro leaf gaurds... that way my snow load just slips right on off the roof without affecting the gutters. But, you have your drains in place so tying a downspout into them will be an easy retrofit once you see the mess headed your way.

    Why not utilize large concrete pavers in front of the walk and garage doors? If laid and maintained at the level of the slab pavers would act as the sacrificial edge to save the edge of the slab. I've never regretted any of the large, decorative pavers I've laid down and my guess is neither have any of the subsequent owners of those homes.
    Insulation. In all the depressingly large number of decades I've wandered this earth I have literally never heard anyone say "I'm so glad I didn't insulate that building." I have heard the converse of that sentiment on more than a few occasions. Here in Central Texas the problem is heat in the summer. Up in the frozen north with even a modest UPS I suspect that a large forced draft kerosene heater could be powered for many hours making the inside of the building bearable when the inevitable occurs and someone must undertake work during the winter they'd much rather be doing somewhere that wasn't as miserably cold as it is outside.
    Adding a pass-thru enclosure somewhere on the wall with the lean-to for generator power would be a useful project. That way the extension cords from the generator wouldn't require a door to even be cracked. The generator would plug into the outdoor enclosure receptacles and the inside extension cords would all plug into the power center receptacles.

    • @squatch253
      @squatch253  21 день тому +1

      That 3’ bottom strip is the wainscot, sometimes it’s used for a color transition and other times it’s the same color as the main wall, but it’s handy to have in place because most siding damage happens within that bottom 3’ so it makes repairs easier.
