So in Texas it’s time for bed. I’m a little stressed for some reason, so I decided I needed me a little… Claire! Honestly, I didn’t even watch the vid, though I’m sure it was very interesting. I just put my AirPods in, closed my eyes, and listened to your charm and wit. You always make me smile and as it turns out, you are a pretty good de-stresser too. Thanks Claire!
Heyyyy Mark ... I am so sorry you are stressed :( I hope you feel somewhat better today ohhh that could be another channel .. ha 'let me send you to sleep' ha.. jokes aside I am glad you got to sleep :)
Thank you for experimenting and passing the knowledge onto us!!! I also just recently found out about the use of PVA glue for this. But I had not tried it yet. But thanks to you, I now know that it works well. 😊
This was a great one! I am severely allergic to latex. I also have loads of PVA around for book binding. I've never put a topcoat on anything so I'm excited to try!
I've been TERRIFIED to top coat because sanding my resin scares the life out of me haha but your amazing video and reassuring voice has given me the push to just go for it!
I’ve been experimenting with resin for 4 months now and I learned so much from your video 😊 I totally understand the feeling of that beautiful resin top coating after the sanding. Absolutely beautiful!!
Thank you so much. Im a newbe, I wish Ill saw your video before christmas, to use it in my acrilic ornaments. For sure I ll follow your technic to cover with PVA
I love it Claire, I just love everything about your vids! So informative. I absolutely dread top coating and my go to is latex but now I know PVA glue works just as well I will use that when I can bc I have tons. Thx for being there for us♥️🥰🇨🇦
Soooo pleased that PVA works. I was so worried about allergies with latex I put a disclaimer on my basket of resin christmas Dec's! These all look gorgeous as always.
Thank you for this video!!! I watch so many videos about top coating and i ruin so many pieces trying 😢 this is simple and easy ❤ and every thing is so beautiful 😍 I will use #1 masking tape!
Great comparison Claire, and very informative! I really appreciate you taking the time to create this video so we can all learn something. I’m waiting for my first bottle of liquid latex to arrive; so far I’ve only ever used masking tape… but I’d not heard of using PVA glue until just now! I do quite a few resin ocean boards, a lot of which are wood… I highly doubt the glue would work for these as PVA is essentially a wood glue?!? But… I’ve decided to try it out anyway, by applying the glue to a piece of scrap plywood and seeing if I can actually remove it, once it’s dried! Here’s hoping! 🤞 🤞🤞
The PVA glue saves me so much time. I’m allergic to latex and the first time I used tape was a set of mandala coasters…it took so very long to trim the edges! Thanks for sharing!
Yes, for sure a very informative video ! I use liquid latex (I hate the smell 🤧) or masking tape. But I have never used PVA. I think I'll try this ! Thank you for sharing 💕
Love learning from you ❤️ When you said it looks like a window the experimental part of my brain went berserk! What if you could restrict the top coat pour to a perfectly centered circle leaving the misty looking sanded border untouched? If it were possible, then I'd put a sprinkle of crystal chips along the edge of the resin circle 'window'. Once cured, you'd have your circular window with a sparkling tactile border with the gauzy rim. Id always be picking it up and peering through the fairy window. Of course it would end up covered by my fingerprints from feeling the textures 😖. This is how my brain works 😅 PS the crystal chips are from my nail art stash. You could use glitter or guilding flakes or even micro glass beads. I immediately thought of the crystal because it would look something like a geode. Seemed like a great fit for the botanical theme.
This was so helpful. Do you have a video where you top coat a jar with threads? I am trying to figure out how to make a jar that is top coated to make it safe for what will go inside of it, but I am not sure of how to approach it. I’m not sure about how to handle the threads so the lids remains functional and screws on easily.
Great comparisons Claire😉I have tried all 3 protection options, all have pros and cons for sure. I like the PVA, affordable, found at most retailers, easy application and removal. You say people will likely comment about using too much but that is the better way to go. I went to thin and had a heck of a time getting it off...where putting a thicker layer makes the peel off much easier and in one piece! So you did good heheheh😉
ahhhh Sheila thank you so much .. yeh I feel like I had to say that just in case people thought I was doing it wrong lol x I just did what I thought was best so I am really happy you do it that way too xxx
I just bought Latex and I thought it was rancid because the smell is SO BAD. I use Frog Tape but I've found that paint even seeps through, any tips on that ? LOVE THIS VIDEO, LOVE YOUR CHANNEL & LOVE how you get right to it without dragging it on & on like some video artists do.
Hi Claire I love your work and how you explain everything in so much detail. Just a question I’m very new to Resin the top coat that you are using is it JUST the clear coat from part A & B that comes in Resin kit or is there any special top coat that you have poured Much appreciated ❤
Heyyyyy Fatimah .. when top coating I tend to use resin specifically for top coating. Thin pours .. I think this video was either Vista Rapids or Glast Cast 3.
Hello Claire, I’m just starting out on my resin journey and how to incorporate resin into my memory books for frames and charms at first. Can I ask what masking tape you would recommend please? I’m making a gift list on Amazon for my Christmas. X
Hi Claire.. is mod podge the same as pva glue? I use it but wn I take it off ... it kind of leaves blemish marks and takes away the shine sometime.. how to fix that
Heyyyy Daisy ... Mod Podge is similar to PVA just more expensive. I've not tried it. .. if it dulls the base and you want the base to be shiny then you might need a polish but if it's the base of the piece I wouldn't worry too much.
I've put off buying latex because I've heard it both smells bad and don't last very long once it's opened. The fancy, expensive, masking tape I bought is useless but PVA glue I have loads of! Now I just need to make something to topcoat...
Ahhhhh yes the smell is so bad but I cant smell it through my respirator ... its just remembering to put the respirator on lol ,, PVA will be my GO TO now for sure x
I have been using frog tape or liquid rubber but with the tape i seem to get a residue on my project causing me to recoat the edges that I taped. Is there a method that i can do to avoid the residue . I usually wait a day before i put the tape on the edge to let it cure,
Hi Claire, again great video and even greater coasters 🥰🥰 Claire please I need your help cus honestly I'm losing it, I've made around 32 coasters for my online shop and I'm trying to topcoat them before the launch but it seems I can't get a shiny surface I've tried many times and always the results differ from sticky to fish skin or dry skin look or like dusty look, I tried once tu use a heat resistant resin and it was disastrous the resin started curing in the first 10 minutes and ended up throwing it. I'm really desperate and whenever I think of topcoating I get like a panic attack. I don't heat my resin, I live in a cold house we use gas heater so the place isn't that warm, I don't cover the coasters while they're curing. Do you think it's one of these factors that may be the issue? If you don't mind what resin do you recommend and I can find here in Italy? Thank you in advance and so sorry to disturb you again but I'm really lost and desperate.
Heyyyyyy Sevsen... it will be all of those factors i'm afraid. Even if you heat your resin you still need the room to be between 20/21 and 23 degrees for it to not cloud over and go sticky. If the room is cold this will absolutely be the reason for it not working out xx You might benefit from a heat mat .. but at your own risk of course x
@@ClairesCraftyCorner thank you so much Claire, I was thinking the room temperature may be the real problem because when I first started making the coasters I was somewhere else where the radiators were at 23 I had no problem with the resin being sticky maybe some air bubbles stuck on the surface cus I didn't have a torch or a heat gun. All my pieces came out so bad and sticky thank Allah it's just the back so I will work the top 4 by 4 coasters so I can get the area warm enough and be able to cover them. So much work but this is what it is when you start a new journey....learning, learning.....
