Well done, looks good! Stay safe, all!
Nice one mate! The missus is "encouraging" me to do our during lockdown.. helpful vid! Stay safe, all the best.
My parents employed some right cowboys who fitted ridged planks as the decking - with no hollow slats, so cleaning it and stripping/ repainting it has been an effing nightmare.
I hope your decking paint works better than mine did. Mine peeled and cracked, leaving water damage all over my deck.
The paint lasted okay but the bearers rotted so I re-landscaped my garden. Here are the videos: ua-cam.com/video/j_7TQQ3wilw/v-deo.html
I did the same thing, but my deck paint peeled of after a rainy day 2 days later. There were white spots. Should I repaint or have a professional powerwash?😢
Was it stripped/ washed before painting? You could try putting on another coat of paint. Try it in a smaller area first to see if it works to save wasting too much paint.
I stripped it, the stripper didn't work. It was a very shiny and slippery substance. I tried to wash it the best that I could. I will take you advice. Thankyou for responding. Blessings,
Excellent
I’d like to see this now(a year later)to see how the deck paint looks as I’ve done this and the paint is peeling ling off everywhere. Now I’m having to redo it and it’s heartbreaking in this heat!
The paint lasted okay with no flaking but the decking bearers rotted as i didn’t paint those. Here it is before I took it up. ua-cam.com/video/j_7TQQ3wilw/v-deo.html
@@AngusMcGregor quick question for you . If you have time and don’t mind me asking? (That’s not the question🤪) I’ve jet washed my decking some of the paint(grey slate) still remains . Any advice on painting/staining it to refresh it?
Would it remove paint? I've 3 layers of horrible flaking paint on one to do. 👍🏻
Apparently this one is a better stripper www.owatroldirect.co.uk/product/prepdeck/?gclid=CjwKCAjwmv-DBhAMEiwA7xYrdzFg7T_6-DDRYRpa2Ed3wXMKi6MWkGNH26NEvIIpFzDoFxY6r3lzMhoCZrAQAvD_BwE
Looks great. The dark colour really adds contrast. What colour is it? I've always wondered what nook and crannies are. I use the expression sometimes too but it was only when watching this video i realised I have no idea! 😄
I used Cuprinol black ash decking stain to get in the nooks and crannies. :)
Please can you list the materia,ls used please?
I have added the items in the description now
Question, will those chemicals not kill your grass when sprayed onto it?
I was fine especially as they are heavily diluted when I rinsed it off.
Nice job but how long will it last before the paint peels off.
It lasted quite a while but then I ripped it up here in this video .ua-cam.com/video/j_7TQQ3wilw/v-deo.html
I wouldn't leave big plant pots on the deck, it will rot the wood underneath with woodlice. You need to elevate the plant pot that have legs. I use the panacotta plant elevator. Hope this helps.
Andrew Bartholomew Yes, good point. It has already done that. Thanks for the advice.
@@AngusMcGregor sorry missed spelled terracotta* u get the idea. Dead leaves can also attract woodlice and insects. No worries glad it helps.
hey Angus, how is the deck paint holding up? Is it flaking? Can you recommend Cuprinol or different brand after 2 years of this stain being applied?
It has gone now. It was okay for about a year after this video, but the bearers went rotten. This was it before I dismantled it.ua-cam.com/video/j_7TQQ3wilw/v-deo.html
Who makes fluted decking?
Hardscape the rest, no need for grass in such a small area.
Thanks for the video.
How many litres did you use on that
I thought you were going to leave the list of items used to clean it on descriptions !??
I have added the items in the description now.
@@AngusMcGregor Thank you
it looks like the "stripper" was a total waste of money if you ended up using a dark stain to ensure you got a blemish free finish in the end?
I have a deck that has been given a light oak paint which is now flaking off in places, and in others has been patch painted, so I have a mix of "bare" wood and darker spots. Was thinking about alternatives to sanding the whole lot back to bare, but looking at your video the "chemical" alternative seems useless. Sanding also seems an expensive proposition.
It cleaned it okay. But yes it was a bit patchy. It definitely cleaned it well because the paint didn’t flake off at all, even after a bad winter and a hot summer.
@@AngusMcGregor thanks for prompt response.
So the chemical gave a good surface for paint adhesion, which is certainly a huge tick, but did not ensure that the "clean" surface was a consistent shade, ie did not really "strip".
I assume therefore would have resulted in distinct patchiness if using a light shade of new point/stain?
Looks like your saviour was opting for the very dark shade you used to cover "everything".
What was the decking paint you used? Also has it started to flake?
M Walker it was Cuprinol black ash decking stain. It has lasted okay and hasn’t flaked.
how much for the employee can take for doing ?
David Crazy I am not sure. I don’t do this as a job. I am just a DIYer
Ok thx :)
Hi. What’s the best deck stripper?
David Graham Hi. If your try Owatrol website they have some good strippers. If you contact them they will be able to advise www.owatroldirect.co.uk/
Did the colour of the shed doors change or am I going mad?
Dawn Blackwood the grey colour doors are my house. The white doors are the shed doors. They are dirty white now But I’m not sure that is an official colour in the Farrow and Ball range
@@AngusMcGregor ahhh I see thank you for clarifying. Bu the way how has the deck paint held out? I am looking to paint mine so I can enjoy my outdoor space during quarantine
Dawn Blackwood The decking stain has held up well. This is it now.ua-cam.com/video/edR9enwHiL0/v-deo.html
@@AngusMcGregor Great! Thank you
Please post your.hair transplant result.after 7th week
Hi they are all here in this playlist. I didn't do a 7 week video but did a 2month one (8weeks) ua-cam.com/play/PLN-B_uXDQnbXhQAW1LhYrUgNGKNi7wvJV.html
How long did it take you mate?
Probably about 3 hours in total. 2 hours to strip the previous stain. Then leave it overnight. 60 minutes to paint
Great video. I'm in two minds to get decking out in the garden. Heard mixed opinions and that I should get patio instead. What's your opinion on decking? Get or avoid.
MyTeacakes Yes decking is great it may last about 10 to 15 years . It could last longer if you stain / treat all the sub frame. But after that time you may want to change it anyway. I have heard that you can get rodents living underneath but it has never been and issue for me.
@@AngusMcGregor cheers for the reply. Ya, I'll go for it alright. The decking is pressure treated but I'm looking at silver birch cuprinol. Hope all goes to plan.
MyTeacakes All the best. It is rewarding doing it yourself and keeps you fit too.
@@AngusMcGregor thanks mate
The back door was different before he painted the deck. Did anyone else notice?
It was different angle. The white door is my garden office and the grey doors are my house back doors.
That paint will dry the timber out crack and rot.
The paint had kept it nice and dry and has helped it to not rot.
You jet washed all that corrosive stripper straight onto your grass?! I imagine you have a yellow and dead garden now
#Tag it’s fine. It might kill the grass if you added it neat to the grass. Because it was diluted with the water it was fine.
And now all his grass is dead lol
It’s fine as when it’s washed off it is heavily diluted.
Dude you're balding again!!
