Reducing the weapon count was one of the best things the game did. Every gun is useful and means something, plus, as you said, the mods are so good and really allow for a personal armoury.
well, i wouldnt say *every* gun is useful XD. some of the weapons like the b6 obliterator do really piss poor damage and gets outclassed almost immediately by the hunter mine launcher.
@@an0bserver2000 depends on the situation. b6 obliterator is a grenade launcher, designed to deal with a group of enemies on the spot, while hunter mine launcher is an area denial weapon, with the mines needing to land 1st before locking on to an enemy
@@phoenix80823Not really. The Dual Vipers have perfect availability and stay competitive right up to endgame, and for crowd control, the Arbiter gets hopelessly outclassed by the Flail.
It's nice. But the best design is probably from that one level in Secret Agent Clank (PSP/PS2) where he was clad in only a towel (or maybe just a censor bar that disappears if you bring up menus).
It works because they don't tack on more armor as the game goes on. They don't start out with or get to a decent armor and then make a crappy looking upgrade for it later in the game.
No comment on the Co-Op? Start a session with a friend in the morning, Exterminator difficulty and play trough the game packed with non stop action. It's old school splitscreen and it's mad fun. I don't know how often I played this game with a friend and we just had massive fun playing trough it.
This is one of the biggest reasons why i want it for the ps4/5. There are literally no split screen games unless its cod and lets be honest, cod is running out of ideas. Plus the deathmatches in these games were great between 4 people.

Its weird that both the Ratchet and Clank and Jak and Daxter franchises did this for their 4th games which worked, followed by generally disliked PSP games that were ported to PS2.
@Cynical Joker I liked size matters too but after watching some reviews, I can see why some people disliked it. And while the lost frontier had soooo much room for improvement, I'm a sucker for air combat and customizable things, so that softened the blow for me.
@Cynical Joker I know I'm very late but jak and daxter the lost frontier is my favourite psp game basicaly I grow up on it and some other platformers so it would explain why now I like ratchet and clank series(basicaly I'm too young to be with series from the begining because half year after I was born ratchet and clank 2 got released)
i remember when my mom bought me Ratchet and Clank for my PS2 years ago for my birthday. She said "The guy at the store said it was really popular with boys your age." I got the worst feeling from hearing her say that... which only made playing the game that much more of a pleasant surprise! (I should've learned my lesson when my mom bought me Donkey Kong Country some years earlier, and I had similar doubts.) In my opinion, the Ratchet and Clank series was the greatest franchise the PS2 had to offer, and every game was worth playing in it's own right: Ratchet 1 had, by far, the best environments. Everything else after that felt derivative in some way (reaching it's lowest point in Deadlocked). It had a solid identity as a platformer but the replay value was kinda "meh" considering the unlocks were golden guns which, while cool, weren't anything to write home about. (The R.Y.N.O. in this game was my second favourite. Ratchet 2 was groundbreaking for the series, setting the precedent for RPG-style character progression. Upgrading weapons by using them was intuitive and satisfying--i mean, who didn't love having your favourite guns get even better as you used them? The only real weaknesses of this game, for me, were exposed over time, as i found the plot kinda forgettable (if not annoying at times) and the upgrade system wasn't incredibly fleshed out. Ratchet 3 is by far one of my favourite games of all time. While I can respect the criticisms presented in this video of the game, the reasons they gave were exactly why it resonated with me: it was unabashedly goofy and had some of everyting. Classic platforming/puzzle sections. Arena battles. A friggin sidescroller, even! Every concept that was presented in RC2 was fleshed out and polished in ways i loved. In the end, I'm not surprised there's lots of people who don't agree with me, but this was my personal "peak" in the series. I would describe Deadlocked as "decadent," like chocolate cake. Looking at it makes your mouth water: it's Ratchet and Clank boiled down to the nitty gritty and cranked up to 11. 99 levels for every gun! with customization! upgrades galore! constant action! the plot was serviceable as well, and yet, like chocolate cake, I found myself having a few forkfuls and staring down the rest of the giant slice i had greedily placed onto my plate. There was a distinct lack of substance, of true savoriness. I'll never say the game was bad, but I always saw it as a spinoff... i never really accepted it as a true-to-heart Ratched and Clank game. After playing Size Matters and some of the PS3 release (i can't even remember the title, it was that forgettable... got it bundled with a PS3 controller. isn't that sad? Ratchet, demoted to a tie-in bonus with hardware, like Wii Play) I felt quite a bit of sadness. Enough to make this long-ass post in the comments section for a youtube video. That said, while I'm sad the series stagnated, I don't really despair. I have all the games and an old-fashioned fatty PS2 in the cupboard ready and waiting should I ever want to play them again. The games have aged well, and in an era which gave us countless classics, I'll always hold R&C in the highest regard. If you're still reading at this point, thanks. I hope you have a great day!
oh, i also forgot to mention: the R.Y.N.O. in Up Your Arsenal was by far one of the best weapons in any game. Fully upgrading it really made you feel like you had godlike power at your fingertips. Whole screens of enemies, turned to dust in a single trigger pull. haven't found a weapon in any game that really compares since.
I absolutely adore Deadlocked's music! The overall grungy feel of it, makes it really stand out amongst the other games in the series. It's my favourite out of all of Ratchet & Clank and I'm glad we share the same opinion!
The thing I love most about this game is how it absolutely *nailed* the tone; even though a fuzzy little guy is running through a gameshow course with the hosts slinging one-liners, yet it still manages to channel that kind of grit that so many other AAA games wish they could get their hands on.
The Badass armor design, the buddy robots, Splitscreen co-op and the spider tank, so many good memories of this game. And I still remember my favorite mission where you got faster and faster as you killed enemies. Deadlocked/Gladiator is definitely in my top 3 Ratchet & Clank games as it was a breath of fresh air after the first 3 games. (Similar deal as with Jack X)
I feel if they made a Deadlocked 2 now, it would do INSANELY well. With how much gun/combat is focused on by players now. The weapons, mods were some of the coolest imo.
EYYY EYYY I See you lot down there jumping to conclusions on my entire opinion on all the "Future" games before I've talked about them properly. We'll get to them soon don't worry.
TheGamingBritShow what is your opinion about going commando I enjoyed it, but i like 3 more I do love ratchet and clank's character development in R&C 2002 and dislike his character in 2016
Bought the """""HD Remaster""""" for some quick fun with a friend. Didn't expect the whole thing to glitch out in every cutscene and to generally run in slow motion when playing in coop. Yeah, actual slow motion, since there is no frameskipping the game just runs slower when the framerate drops. And the game runs sub 60fps in coop all the time. How did that shit pass QA?
Melcore I've been playing it on my ps3 lately and I agree. Shit had me bracing myself for some horrific graphic gltich to happen in every in game cutscene
I got it for free with FFA and I still felt cheated. Deadlocked may not be the most popular of the franchise, but it didn't deserve to be slapped together like that. I've even heard of save data corrupting at launch too. All of the original Ratchet games remastered for PS3 seemed to get pretty shoddy treatment, yet I hear almost no one talking about it (most people I meet didn't even know Deadlocked got onto PS3). I've been able to get consistent glitches to pop, often requiring death or closing the game to sort out.
Raggedstar - The trilogy seems fine to me except in Going Commando or Up Your Arsenal where it plays the wrong ship flying sound. But I also didn’t know Deadlocked was on PS3 until a some years ago way after its HD release.
Deadlocked felt like a Jak & Daxter game tonally. I liked that a lot. Would love to see that tone again. Maybe a return to the game type? Deadlocked made the Ratchet universe feel a bit darker and more layered.
Ratchet Deadlocked is still my favourite after all these years because it completely embraced the action from the previous games and expanded on it rather than continuing to make what seemed like the same game over and over.
you only touched on it lightly, but the weapons are a big aspect of what makes this game so fun. while there are fewer of them compared to the other Ratchet games, even without the modifications they are all unique in design and function. and most importantly: they are all useful. other games had a lot of weapons that just weren't good enough
"The Harbinger is Vox Industries' answer to its two biggest competitors: The Apocolator and the RYNO. Shellshock says, "Those two guns are like sissies. Weak sissies from the sissiest place in Sissyland." The Harbinger, on the other hand, is the final word in gratuitous destruction. One tap of the trigger and you will lay a path of devastation from here to the other end of the Shadow Sector"
Gladiator was by far my favourite R&C game. The gameplay is just so visceral and fulfilling, and it really cuts the fluff from the rest of the series. It's also just plain hilarious and honestly has one of the best scripts in the series. Those announcers, as much as their lines are repeated, are so good. I hate that this game is so often relegated to black sheep status, even by the developers iirc.
i was really hoping the 2016 R&C reboot would be everything we all hoped for - same copy of the original R&C but with boosted graphics and without ratchet looking so fucking fluffy. i was pissed when i found out that they're making a movie and i never watched it because i know i'd fucking hate it
@@yakoc04 nah, totes recommend it. Got hooked on the satisfying traversal mechanics, the combat was pretty streamlined but still fun enough to carry you until the end. It's a really good game, get it if you own a PS4. Insomniac delivers yet again.
I remember not coping with Deadlocked as a child so well, it felt different and had a different vibe for me than the original trilogy. However, after a few years of getting gud, I decided to go back and try this game for real and I had an absolute blast with it! I hope more people give Deadlocked a fair chance and don't disqualify it just because it lacks Clank and the usual Ratchet formula.
If you want more than 5 hours of sleep, have a job, and take college courses.. then you have all of the above still as an adult. Although, yes there is still plenty of freedom.

Great job on another great video gamingbrit. Deadlocked actually got accepted into Summer Games Done Quick this year, so it'll be the first time at a GDQ we'll see a deadlocked runner pull off a great live run.
Aaaah Ratchet: Deadlocked. How could you forget the split screen story multiplayer, After you beat the game you get a jak skin so you can turn this game into uh lets say Ratchet and Jak Deadlocked. Ratchet and clank 3 is great and all... Ratchet deadlocked as well... but Ratchet and clank 2 is my personal favorite game and it introduced many great weapons like Lava gun, Plasma coil, Blitz gun, Gravity bomb which become mini nuke... lets not forget the best one "Shield Charger" which became a main stream weapon!
I remember deadlocked so much. I loved it as a kid. It gave that heartfelt feeling when you find out that the massacre you've been enjoying as ratchet is exactly what ace hardlight did as well. Only for him, there was no end until you ended him. For me it helped solidify ratchet as a true heroe because it gave him resolve in his heart. Also the I wished they brought back the AI combat bots. They were funny and fun
I might be alone in this, but R&C was the first ps2 game I got, so I played it like 40 times through. As I got more games, I started replaying them less and less. Deadlocked, coming out in 05, I only played maybe 3 or 4 times through. It's not that I didn't like it, just that I didn't play it enough to remember it as fondly as I do the rest, if any of that makes sense.
Harris Zeboki I don’t think Deadlocked is the best PS2 era RaC game, but I still don’t get why so many people shit on it? I get that you have less freedom than previous games and is much different, but I honestly like it a lot. It was made to emphasize combat in the game (ya know, the thing that the whole series is based upon and revolves around?). Something I see a lot is people accusing it of taking Clank out of levels. Correct me if you feel that I’m wrong, but before ACiT Clank rarely ever had a major impact on the games in terms of his own stand alone levels. I was never wowed by his levels until ACiT unless you count the Clank battles from previous games as a Clank level, and even those never seriously had me replaying them except for the moon level fight against the Thugs 4 Less guy in RaC2 (see, memorable!). I barely even noticed Clank missing in Deadlocked throughout levels except for in the beginning when I tried rocket boosting through parts of a level I’ve already cleared. I was a bit nervous going into Deadlocked thinking it’d be bad, but I personally enjoyed it so much! I even played through it 3-4 times to 100% it. I played all side and main missions until I was getting the minimum amount of bolts from completing them possible, fully upgraded all weapons, got all playing cards, got all achievements, etc.
See, Up Your Arsenal was my favorite, followed by this one. I feel like that's because the 3rd one was my first experience with the game, and I was fascinated at that point. Not long after I played this one, I played the 2nd one. That was also amazing. Then Deadlocked came out. And it was my favorite thing ever. I played one save file so many times my bolt count got maxed. It was like a thing to do. Get home from school, procrastinate homework, then play through Deadlocked once.
You earned my respect. I have completed all 4 games at 100% (yes I'm flexing, sorry XD) and I'll say, if you really recognized that mission from the framerate I think that you and me would beat the shit out of the whole Sector at Exterminator difficulty in no time.
man i used to play this online back on the PS2. i was such an addict. good times, the community was small but we practically all knew each other. We didn't have any of those annoying screaming kids from cod like we have today, none of that loot box crap, it was just you, your gun, and lotsa killing. shame with the ps3 remake the community was dead on arrival.
Deadlocked is a great game but I wouldn’t say it’s one of my favourite Ratchet games, despite what you said about 3 in the previous vid I’d say that one is my favourite with 2 very slightly behind it, IMO 3 had the best weapon selection in the series.
Heyyy didn't expect to find you here, small internet. Agreed, I played all of these games up to FFA, the ps2 ones were the best, and 3 still has the best weapon variety. I think 2 has the best level 1 music though, between hearing the Aranos intro stage and the Oozla theme, you would think you were about to fight the final boss.
endneo oh hey I didn’t expect to see you here, though I guess it makes sense that a DMC fan watches TGBS. Anyways here’s how I see the original trilogy, 1 has the most polished levels but the least polished gameplay, 3 has the most polished gameplay but the least polished levels, 2 sits in the middle of that.
I just saw the vid as new in my recommended and clicked on it before I knew it was TGB, then was pleasantly surprised when I heard charlie's voice. And equally surprised that he was so positive about the game (glad he was, it deserves more love).
I spent countless hours with my cousin playing the hell out of this game. When we beat it for the first time (a genuine accomplishment, we felt), and discovered that New Game+ ramps up the difficulty alongside making your weapons absolutely bonkers, it cemented itself as one of my favorite games ever, and it's still up there in my Top 10.
I really liked Deadlocked. Played it a couple months ago again. I really love the gameplay and the athmosphere of every planet and area. Feels really different from other R&C games. Plus, probably none of the weapons sucked.
I literality just beat this game last week lol. I played the ratchet and clank game that was free on the ps store and liked it, but it also reminded me of Deadlocked so I replayed it and really enjoyed how much more mature that game was compared to the recent one.
" When it comes to edgy-looking cartoon rats with guns, if Shadow the Hedgehog is your weird low-budget telenovela crime drama, then Ratchet: Deadlocked is Breaking Bad. " damn that comparison goes hard xD
The games were too glitchy in the ps3 port that it really destroys my immersion. Games Like deadlocked are the reasons I still turn on my PS2 till this day.
I loved deadlocked, but for some reason the third game just resonated with me. I loved the weapons so much and the gameplay in new game plus felt even more rewarding than the normal game for some reason. I was so excited to se how the weapons would evolve as I fought with them. And they provided a good incentive to not get hit aside from keeping your health. I also loved the comedy in that game like crazy. It was right up my ally as a kid. It was just my kind of game.
Ratchet Deadlocked was the game that 100% brought me into the Ratchet universe. Still to this day i get nostolgic whever i hear anything vaguely similar to the reporters from this masterpiece
This was my first and favorite ratchet game. Thanks for giving credit where credit is due instead of dismissing it like so many others (looking at you insomniac)
I always loved Deadlocked (or Gladiator) as a kid! Always thought it was a great time! Heck, it was even kinda fun to playthrough the game with a friend! The PS2 Ratchet games were christmas morning gold for me. Sly and Jak aswell! Though TGBS, you've now spoken about the First, third and fourth ratchet game (aswell as the reboot of the first one).. But you have yet to make a video (as far as I'm aware of) about the 2nd (and my personal favorite) Ratchet and Clank game: Going Commando! I would love to see a video about it! I mean you've already talked about 1, 3, 4 and 1rebooted, so fits to finish it all off, and talk about the 2nd one aswell right? Your choice of course, but I just think it could be cool to see!
Deadlocked and the actual OG first game were an introduction to the franchise for me, but my first one owned was Up Your Arsenal. Next was Going Commando, and after that I collected the rest through the years. But Deadlocked will always have a place for me since it was the first RAC game I ever played.
One of my favorite things about deadlocked was the number of upgrades I could buy for my bots. At max upgrades I remember them being a pretty good source of additional damage.
I just loved the weapon mod system so much. Combining the mods with different weapons was so much fun for my kid brain, similarly to how Kirby and the Crystal Shards and its ability combining system kept my entertained for countless hours.
This game is one of my favorites from the series as a whole. I'd say combat wise, it was the most fun among the previous 3, and I definitely agree with you on the OST. I find it to be a bit of a shame it was panned by so many people or at least seen as the black sheep because exploration was taken out of it. Personally, this was a game that I used to play just to escape the stress of my family and school life for how overwhelming it all felt. This video, I cannot help but appreciate the memories I had with the game. Thanks man, thank you so much, if I were able to get any sort of access to the UA-cam Red service (it's been 4 years and they did nothing) I would binge all of your videos so I could help you out.

Reducing the weapon count was one of the best things the game did. Every gun is useful and means something, plus, as you said, the mods are so good and really allow for a personal armoury.
The Doom Eternal approach, before Doom Eternal
well, i wouldnt say *every* gun is useful XD. some of the weapons like the b6 obliterator do really piss poor damage and gets outclassed almost immediately by the hunter mine launcher.
The arbiter solos the whole game the moment you get it and every other weapon struggles to remain relevant.

Can we all agree this is the *coolest* design Ratchet has ever had?

It's nice. But the best design is probably from that one level in Secret Agent Clank (PSP/PS2) where he was clad in only a towel (or maybe just a censor bar that disappears if you bring up menus).
Well, I think it's one of his sexiest outfits yet.
It works because they don't tack on more armor as the game goes on. They don't start out with or get to a decent armor and then make a crappy looking upgrade for it later in the game.
It's good and all, the suit makes it feel like your tail is shoved up your ***.

4 was so different, they tired something new, but it worked.... really well.,
Its weird that both the Ratchet and Clank and Jak and Daxter franchises did this for their 4th games which worked, followed by generally disliked PSP games that were ported to PS2.
(I should've learned my lesson when my mom bought me Donkey Kong Country some years earlier, and I had similar doubts.)
In my opinion, the Ratchet and Clank series was the greatest franchise the PS2 had to offer, and every game was worth playing in it's own right:
Ratchet 1 had, by far, the best environments.
The suits were so bad ass.

Those guys are still my favorite co-op squadmates from any game.

The classic "Rookie and Sarge" duo; so cliched, but still so good.
"Have you ever seen the Diablo in the pale moonlight? I have and it's fantastic!" I still have no idea what that means
"Have you ever danced with the devil under a pale moonlight?"
Could be a reference to that.

I can only assume you haven't played the game in splitscreen coop.
I've been able to get consistent glitches to pop, often requiring death or closing the game to sort out.
whatevruminator - The game is 720p. It probably just upscales to 1080p for you.
And lets talk about how good the hud looks. It still holds up well.
Ratchet Deadlocked is still my favourite after all these years because it completely embraced the action from the previous games and expanded on it rather than continuing to make what seemed like the same game over and over.
DatPootis true dat plus it doesn't help that it was my introduction to the franchise so there's that as well
Absolutely hit the nail on the head. Same reason for me.
For me the best part was the vast amount and varying types of gadgets and weapons that sold the game. Dreadlocked was lacking in this department.
you only touched on it lightly, but the weapons are a big aspect of what makes this game so fun. while there are fewer of them compared to the other Ratchet games, even without the modifications they are all unique in design and function. and most importantly: they are all useful. other games had a lot of weapons that just weren't good enough
Agreed. The Dual Vipers are still my favorite weapons in the series, they were so sick when you maxed out their level.

One tap of the trigger and you will lay a path of devastation from here to the other end of the Shadow Sector"
putting the electric upgrade on the dual vipers made them nigh invincible.

Yeah, it's nice to see a video that finally gives this game the credit it deserves.
I loved Ratchet and Clank 3!! Anyways, I wish they would remaster Deadlocked, Size Matters, and Secret Agent Clank for PS4!
i was really hoping the 2016 R&C reboot would be everything we all hoped for - same copy of the original R&C but with boosted graphics and without ratchet looking so fucking fluffy. i was pissed when i found out that they're making a movie and i never watched it because i know i'd fucking hate it
@@gus-187 IMO the movie wasn't bad but the fact that it was integrated into the game kinda ruined the story. The gameplay is still solid tho.

I FUCKING LOVED DEADLOCKED, it was my favorite.

The Red Guy sly 1 is tedious
I like it.

Deadlocked is a great game but I wouldn’t say it’s one of my favourite Ratchet games, despite what you said about 3 in the previous vid I’d say that one is my favourite with 2 very slightly behind it, IMO 3 had the best weapon selection in the series.
MechaMike98 that it did
Heyyy didn't expect to find you here, small internet.
And equally surprised that he was so positive about the game (glad he was, it deserves more love).
in my opinion its 2, 1, 3, and deadlocked (which to me is basically RC 4)
I spent countless hours with my cousin playing the hell out of this game. When we beat it for the first time (a genuine accomplishment, we felt), and discovered that New Game+ ramps up the difficulty alongside making your weapons absolutely bonkers, it cemented itself as one of my favorite games ever, and it's still up there in my Top 10.

" When it comes to edgy-looking cartoon rats with guns, if Shadow the Hedgehog is your weird low-budget telenovela crime drama, then Ratchet: Deadlocked is Breaking Bad. "
damn that comparison goes hard xD
6:32 wtf? I never knew you could even do that.
Common sense was a struggle at that age back then...
You COULD, but a lot of the bolts just fall into the water if you aren't close enough. The rail route works fine.
Junkey McKrat what I always did was start on the opposite end of the rail first so I can get guaranteed bolts.
Zomagedon you could do that in past games. Just shoot the crates. Wastes ammo, but that's what the high ammo capacity "blaster" weapons are for.
The bolts that fall in the water get magneted to you afterwards, like in the other games
4 years later, i can still say with a passion, ratchet deadlock is still in my top 4 favorite ratchet and clank games
Can't believe you reviewed Deadlocked without mentioning my boys Merc and Green!
The more of your videos I watch the harder the PS2 nostalgia gets, I really miss the era now.
Man even though I never beat dreadlocked I still loved it as a kid
*Quite the spicy Memé*
WHAT?? GO FINISH THAT SHIT ALREADY
I swear this is my favorite game in the series so thank you for this video! You just gained yourself a subscriber as well. Keep up the great videos. 👍
The soundtrack was sooo badass on deadlocked
It is the British hyper bit hero back with another installment in road to the rhino
