Lord of the Mysteries will always be my favorite fiction novel I've ever read. Klein exploring the new world, discovering hidden, yet dangerous secrets, and combating against unknown organizations, eldritch gods, and cosmic horrors all while maintaining his humanity and fooling the world of his identity was extremely exhilarating to read. I felt emotions that I haven't felt in a long time including new emotions such as genuine fear. The suspense, the occasional slow-paced slice of life, the worldbuilding, and the characters are just perfect for me.

My favorite is omniscient reader viewpoint...
This story about stories itself is the single greatest concept used in storytelling itself.
I love lord of the mysteries and shadow slave too but somehow omniscient reader has everything and more to offer.
Sss grade suicide hunter is good to.
Really underrated one is "the main heroines are trying to kill me"

Harem turns everything to shit.
I don't really think ORV deserves the peak fiction title. I've read the entire novel, but it's just so hard to visual some parts. The manhwa does a great job at this.
It also gets good only around the halfway part. Before that, this web novel felt like an average fantasy Protagonist novel.
However, I will say that this novel is great at worldbuilding. Despite some plot holes, it's really interesting how the main character levels up with an actual game system and slowly reveals huge plot points.
Overall, I would give orv an a tier

Because I have read many stories... The concept itself drew me in.
I knew in few chapters the potential of this story because of the concept it was playing with.
"story about stories" means it has potential to explore everything.
And I was right.
It has everything that other many stories had and explored it further in meta narrative sense.
I don't personally think there are plot holes at all....i have read it many times.
Paradoxical? Yes but that's because the concept itself is paradoxical.
I think it is one of the most unique story to ever exist because the concept itself is unique.... It being "story about stories" "humans relationship with stories" etc
So it does deserve to be called masterpiece and a peak fiction.
I would say it's better than shadow slave and lord of the mysteries for me personally.
Cuz on the criteria I rate stories... Orv is at the top of web noval mountain.

The first webnovel I read was Lord of Mysteries and I'm still obsessed. It's SPECTACULAR and basically everything I like in fiction and stories. It's mysteries, insane worldbuilding and power system, steampunk, good characters, it can be funny and DARK and keeps you on edge the whole time with seriously unexpected plot twists. Also insane antagonists. Fights are damn impressive, and the STAKES. It's also super creative. I couldn't stop reading for two months basically and I'm so glad it's so long XD
So now of course I'm reading the second ongoing part as well. And I have so high expectations from the animation now, even more if they follow the insane level of the trailer.
So now I have a hard time getting into something else aha XD I do want to read Shadow Slave because it also looks totally like my jam, but I will maybe wait until it's finished. And I'm keeping these recommendations because they look super good, thank you!!

I started reading it and I'm around 150 chapters in but I'm not really sold on it. I became obsessed with Shadow Slave instantly and reading it kind of feels forced. Will it get better soon or should I already think it's great and I just don't get it yet?

Nah bro that’s only for a bit. After the tiny school arc, it becomes peak. You just have to get through the school arc, and it just keeps on getting better and better.
I'm not a fan either of school thing in such history, usually they are all the same, but the begginer made it fast enough for me to not drop, and after that the history gets waaay better, and it gets even better when SPOILER!!!!????!!!!;!! Arthur get to a new "realm", the history before it is very good, but from this point onwards.. it gets its peak
Both the begginer and shadow slave are pretty good (I didn't get to the weekly on shadow slave yet), but until the cap 1400 where I'm the history is awesome
The War Arc and the following Arcs after the School Arc (and the Training Arc) are fantastic, so maybe speed read the School Arc or listen to the Audiobook while doing something else

In my opinion, SS's biggest flaws are that too few characters (ones that matter and have not been around for only 15 chapters) die and the chapters are too short.
Yeah they are short but g3 does upload twice a day I believe, which is really impressive!

nah there is so many other flaws
power system, characterization ( we have 5 POVs that take less than 15 chapters in a span of 1600 ), pacing at the start of every arc besides antarctic and the first arc, writing being subpar having walls uppon walls of forced exposition, over explanation, there is a bunch of chapters where there is no dialogue what so ever, just explanations of whats going on instead of letting us know through conversations, we only ever get two types of convos, useless ones or very particularly important ones for the plot, not to say that there isnt good dialogue, there is, for example when noctis was around, but its so far in-between that it can not be used as a argument of success.
i think this novel suffers from the authors own choices of releasing 2 chapters a day, you cannot make a good book doing that, it will suffer with quality drop, i can see how ingenious he though with the power system, how the world he build is stellar, but he fumbled it by making all that quality become intellectual fast food.
at least the world building is still stellar
@@isaac15752 Yeah as far as POVs goes g3 doesn’t differentiate much, kinda isolates sunny. And I agree I think there are quite a few chapters where it just feels slow and like theres nothing happening due to explanation of things that aren’t really relevant. As far as pacing goes I don’t think its that bad at the start of arcs, perhaps the Third Nightmare was a bit boring at the beginning but thats a buildup for whats to come later.
Honestly it is an issue with the chapter release schedule, but thats also a result of g3s way of planning. He states that he just sets up keypoints for what he wants done in an arc, and just writes on about things he thinks of. Im sure if he gave himself more time the novel would be a lot higher quality

Honestly the best arc it has was forgotten shore ,and antarctica . even the characters of dorain and other guys like professor obel i see as better than kai effie and especially neph .

@@kreide6819 I agree Royalroad is much better than webnovel imho, mostly self-inserts and Litrpg stories but sometimes you come across really good and unique stories. I actually haven't read or seen anything new on webnovel, wuxiaworld, and other chinese novel sites they seem so stale the last few years.

They're both time-loop stories but I'm more satisfied with the way MoL tied up it's story.
I've since started reading a new on-going series though, it's called Apocalypse Redux. It got stubbed but I started reading from before that happened so I'm quite okay with it. It's on Kindle now I think.

Well, there's hundreds good novels in Webnovel (and I only read chinese/korean novels, no originals), not only the well known, like Release That Witch, Way of Choices but also a lot of hidden gems, like 'My Girlfriend From Turquoise Pond...', 'My Wife Is A General Who Killed Tens Of Thousands On The Battlefield', 'I Turn Out to Be a Grand Master' and others. There are a ton of problems with the site, though. There's a lot of good abandoned translations, like Sword of Dawnbreaker (wich has an anime), Heavenly Dao Formula (from the author of RTW), there's a lot of atrocious translations (specially from not so well known novels), the site is chaotically organised, making it difficult to browse unless you know exactly what you are looking for, and it gets extremelly expensive if you start reading a lot of their novels. Liked your list, I hadn't read any of those novels.

Lotm has such an amazing world building. Same for SS.
The problem of SS for me is the way fighting/action is portrayed, its not as thrilling as we say lotm where every fight hooks u so much that u will be amazed how creative the battle is. Unlike in SS, its "describe" only, like where's the technique? Where's the detail? All i got is some boring ass action that i just want it to end and proceed to the next part lol. Its lazy, i cant picture it out in my head on what they do in battle, like show me the details pls lmao.

Over the last three years WEBNOVELS have been my hobby. I won't rank my 5 but l did share my picks. Storyline build up, twists, and the ability to captive my imagination with creativity are some of the reasons for my selection. However, l am not like some of the characters in WEBNOVELS so l admit being in a pond. I also admit, if most of the above criteria was not met l moved on, I am at a 1 for about 9 count.

I think by the taste of navels that you shown so far that the legendary mechanic has a realistic chance to break in to you top five after you have read it. The guffy name is literally the worst point of the novel. And the ending is just perfect in way too many ways

throne of magical arcana is my favorite so far, i have put a stop on lotm (at the midle of volume 4, didn't like dantes that much) and ss (a bit before 2nd nightmare), i am waiting for both of them to be finished.
I dropped tbate, just after his training in the dragon realm, i found it bad honestly, i don't like novels where the drama swallows the story, that's why i dropped orv too.
Forty millenniums of cultivation, i had read the manhua i stopped when he had to leave his planet/galaxy (don't remember). it's been a few years, don't know if it is still in continuation.
Yeah the webnovel is done though the ending leaves a lot to be desired. I still recommend you check it out, though.

Bro, everyone talks about LOTM. I've had it on my list for years and yet I never seem to be able to get past chapter 1. Two days ago, I got into chapter 2 and I slept off. It's crazy cause everywhere from Reddit to Twitter to even here on youtube, my pinterest! Everyone talks about LOTM. Does it get better? Do I have to push through the beginning? When does it get captivating?

Yup. LoTM is arguably greatest webnovel of all time, with RI being it's equal or greater. The likes of Shadow Slave and others mentioned in the video can never compare to these two no matter what. So yeah, you should definitely read them

on my first try I also couldn't get past chapter 1. a year after that I tried again and finished the whole thing in under a month. idk why but in my first try I just felt "nah this is too much words nothing stick to my head" but on the second try I actually got immersed, the wordy details made the world more alive. what you feel like just mundane trivial stuff actually set the atmosphere of the book. I got hooked after Klein got in touch with mysticism and (spoiler ig?) tarot club gatherings.

Shadow slave is too slow for me tbh he didnt level up that much other than getting more cores in so many chapterd and it doesnt scale that much.The mc is also not op or the best among his peers which also makes me like it less since the mc is supposed to be the protagonist who reaches the peak alone in all novels i read.
Throne of magical arcana had an awesome and unique start but i lost interest after that just because the scaling of the world was too low and it seemed slow.
40 milleniums of cultivation also interesting start but got boring later it just seems too big of a haste for me to read 3k plus chapters.
Lord of the mystety is also too slow and complicated for me to read.
All in all these novels are alright but definately nowhere near my top 10 list.

disagree heavily with shadow slave being so high, the writing is subpar, you have sequences uppon sequences of chapters filled with nothing but forced exposition and inner monoloque, there is 1600 chapters where we only gotten 5 different povs, and out of those povs none have been major or truly important to the plot at all, maybe to the exception of mordret POV which gave him a lot of characterization, but overall since it was just once, ended up being good but not enough.
the pacing is good, i will agree, but nothing stellar, in the arc from the third nightmare the pacing was atrocious, which was saddening cus it had an incredible plot twist, we gotten only 1 character recieving some character development and finally giving us some sort of semblance to understanding of whats going on in their heads in cassie, and that is bizarre giving we waited 1500 chapters for the third main character to finally be understood in some capacity, it is still ambiguous enough for us not to know if she had good bad or neutral intentions, we dont even know if she truly sees sunny as a friend, we know for sure that she cares for other ppl but as a reader we are left assuming she is just a nephis fangirl, and everyone is seconded to her, something sunny would never do, he wont ever sacrifice someone over another, and will try to save both or die trying.
another criticism, the power system is filled with plot holes, it was not done properly, nothing gives you any consistency, it reaches a certain point that you just dont care anymore, been at least 500 chapters for me since i gave up trying to make sense out of that mess.
and dont get me started with mary sue sasuke (nephis) miss perfect, the most forced romance ive ever seen in my life, because there is 0 chemistry, and we are left with thousands of chapters where the mc is always talking about her, having her as a goal, thinking about her so on, the only flaw the girl has is that she is ''socially awkward'' but even that is only to make her look cute, because its not relevant at all, she is a genious who can learn social skills and how to be a mischievous strategist in the human mind, in less than 3 months, just by looking at sunny talking and acting , talk about socially awkward then. she is always in self pity trying to make you feel sympathetic with her but ends up just making you hate her, cus everything she does she almost aces it, and then complains omg i got a 9/10 instead of 10/10 im suffering so much.
all in all, it is a solid 7.5 for me and its only not a 4 or 5 because like you said, the world building is phenomenal, it alone carries the series, because everything else is just more of the same.

I recommend the writing book - Story engineering : mastering the 6 core competencies of successful writing to learn what character dimensions are.

Edit: And shadow slave? Don't compare that it to the goats lmao. The only arc that was really good was the forgotten shore. The author has been messing things up recently, probably due to his mental state due to writing 2 chapters a day
