Interesting playthrough. I never backed this game because of the difficulty of the video game. After dozens of plays, I never got past Act 1. I think it is just a little too puzzly for me.
I think i will like the video game more overall when the excitement wears off from the new board game. With that said though i love the board game, especially the multiplayer aspect of it!
I always judge my games on a “fidgety to depth scale” and this game seems like too figity for not much depth. I’m someone who loves the video game so maybe that’s why it seems figity without depth because I’ve already experience most the depth. Great play through tho, as always.
I wish the sleeves were not bad made and were actually printed in the back of the sleeves instead of glued at it. 4 playtroughs later and now I have to play the game taking out the back of all the sleeves the game gave for ''free''
As always great video Colin! But... I really don't understand this trend of adapting video games to board versions. And there are like dozens of them around right now. For dynamic games, maybe there is some reason - because with ones like, I don't know, Apex Legends or Dying Light boardgame is different enough from the original to give completely different experience.. But Slay the Spire - pc version is already turn based game. I see no reason why would I pick boardgame when I have original version available.
Totally get it!! The biggest draw here is co-op you can't do that with the digital version. Also if you are like me I can't play games on my phone so this let's me play the game!!
Dont understand games like this. Why not play the videogame instead. It's cheaper and much quicker to play not to mention watching your character actually fight etc
Because sometimes you want to disconnect and not stare endlessly at a screen all day (something many of us already do for work). Maybe people like the tactile nature of a board game more. Maybe some people never got in to video games or don't own a console or nice gaming computer. There are plenty of reasons. It's not for you and that's fine, but coming across as negative and seemingly denigrating those who choose to play a tabletop adaptation of a video game is unnecessary.
I am not sure the intent here was attacking, more just not understanding which is OK! The best part of this hobby is there are SO MANY GAMES to choose from that if something doesn't float your boat, you have tons of other options! I personally love having a game like this in analog as I sit in-front of a screen all day at work. Thanks again for watching!!
I've played this video game a tonne. However, I love physical componets, and I would rather play the physical version than sit in front of my screen and play it. Feels more interactive, and it's different enough to justify a change from the video game.
As a fan of original game, I believe they've dropped the ball with the physical adaptation big time. They went with too small of numbers for damage and life, which leads to extremely constricted design space, and for some reason they messed with the relics turning them into RNG bullshit. Most of the relics from the original game work perfectly fine if transferred into the board game word for word, there was no need to make them die dependent.
Nah actually. The multiplayer play allows you to mitigate the randomness, since you can focus attacks and some other effects on the enemies of the unlucky players. Small numbers makes the math simple enough that it plays about as smoothly as the video game, really important for board games. And the design has been altered to take the small numbers into account really well. The balance is different for sure, like upgraded basic cards being about as good as un-upgraded non-basic cards, but it's just as tight.
Hard disagree. tracking relics that trigger on specific turns would be a nightmare, using a single die roll to determine all of the rng in a round is excellent design. It takes all of the admin of the game and makes it one quick action, and it introduces a fun element at the start of each turn that everyone around the table is invested in. Smaller numbers are essential to making this game digestible for newcomers to the franchise and for those not mathematically inclined. This has captured the feel of slay the spire whilst making only the compromises it had to.
@@dukster362 spoken truly like someone who never played a proper board game before. replacing norma functioning relics with rng is actually a terrible and brainless design. most of the relics trigger on battle start or round start, so there wouldn't be any extra tracking required. die roll complicates it further if anything. yes, but not this small. numbers could be reduced sufficiently without becoming ridiculously small and deleting a lot of design space. it made a lot of "compromises" it didn't have to make, and that's the point. good thing I tried it on tts instead of wasting my money and finding out after the fact.

Interesting playthrough. I never backed this game because of the difficulty of the video game. After dozens of plays, I never got past Act 1. I think it is just a little too puzzly for me.
I would say the board game can be brutal as well, but after 4 plays I feel that it isn't as hard? Regardless thanks for watching!
I think i will like the video game more overall when the excitement wears off from the new board game. With that said though i love the board game, especially the multiplayer aspect of it!
Yes agreed, I think solo you might as well get the video game. But co-op is where this game shines! Thanks for watching!
I am so interested but I don't know if this is really worth $100+
Totally get that! We have played now over 15 times so it feels worth it to me!
@@MeetMeAtTheTable What would you say is the best amount of players for this game?
I've played all counts! My favorite is 3 but it works great with all of them due to simultaneous activation!
the hearth
post act 2
Sounds like a plan!
I always judge my games on a “fidgety to depth scale” and this game seems like too figity for not much depth.
I’m someone who loves the video game so maybe that’s why it seems figity without depth because I’ve already experience most the depth.
Great play through tho, as always.
Totally get it!! Appreciate you watching and commenting!
I wish the sleeves were not bad made and were actually printed in the back of the sleeves instead of glued at it. 4 playtroughs later and now I have to play the game taking out the back of all the sleeves the game gave for ''free''
Sorry to hear that! We are on our 15th play with no problems with the sleeves.
It's cheaper and much quicker to play not to mention watching your character actually fight etc
for solo sure, but you can't play it co-op and this co-o pis great! Plus I prefer playing games off screen :)
Nice Mark!!
Totally get it! I personally enjoy the way the relics work and like how the die impacts multiple things in a round.
Yup I personally like how it is setup for the board game, think it was a very nice conversion, and I love that I can play with my friends!
