As a resident of New Orleans, thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of y’alls love and help in my home town and bringing focus to the devastation, but also the spirit of this area.
KWheelahan410 I agree I don't live in New Orleans but am a resident of New Orleans. And I didn't live here when Hurricane Katrina came but a lot my friends did. I was here though for the great flood of 2016. I was affected by the flood though.

I think it would be awesome if there was a series focusing on different charities and organization's around the country. Like someone spending a week with a charity helping out, cause there're so many charities that are not well known and deserve some recognition.

Contractor fraud is rampant in South Texas right now due to Harvey. The contractors are also jacking up their prices. I provide counseling in Rockport, Texas, and my clients are really struggling in a lot of ways, too. It’s heartbreaking. Thankfully organizations like this one exist to help people who really need it! Great episode and great work!

Ladylike, I am a New Orleans native and lived and survived through Hurricane Katrina. As a New Orleanian the topic of Katrina still makes me emotional all these years later. It was such a hard experience especially going through this as a 12 year old. I just want to thank you guys from the bottom of my heart for volunteering and bringing awareness to this amazing organization. Without people like you New Orleans would still be in terrible conditions. Thank you for all the you do!!! #NolaStrong
I live in Louisiana and a man the other day came up to me asking for money saying that he was still struggling from Hurricane Katrina. He said something about still waiting for the government to fix everything. (Yes I realize he could have been lying to get money, but I like to think he actually needed it)

Don't you remember news coverage & pictures after hurricane Katrina? People spray painted *SEND HELP?* while literally standing on their roof while trying to flag down helicopters. People was floating on pieces of wood bcuz the water was so high. It was Terrible
I love that these volunteers are doing this because they truly understand the injustice of how little these people were protected or helped. It’s not just about making a neighborhood look pretty. Major kudos to that organization.
Watching this makes me want to cry . I Love people who take the time to care for others in ways like this .It shows that the world isn't as coldhearted as it is made out to be . People care . Bless your hearts and for those who are still suffering God is watching you and is sending help your way.

Thank you so much!! I am a resident of Louisiana and this was a very heart warming video. In the Great Flood of 2016 in Baton Rouge my home was flooded and majority of my family’s homes were flooded. During this flood I volunteered my time at a local church helping pack relief bags to anyone in need and this warmed my heart to see that you guys helped with this issue. Contractor fraud is veryyyy common after storms, so I understand her situation and I wish the best to her. God bless you wonderful women that helped with this cause.

This was my favorite thing y'all did in New Orleans just because it was volunteering and benefiting others who desperately need help.
i think the saddest thing is - this could happen to every one of us... and instead of getting back our home, they were ripped of... i simpyl dont understand to mentality of these frauders, because this could happen to them...
those stone stairs on a completely empty property broke my heart :( i can't even imagine losing my home like this.
My church group went to New Orleans a few years ago (we got to sing with Lenny Kravitz, little humblebrag....look it up. VOP sings with Lenny Kravitz.) and we helped out paint some schools, build homes, etc., in the ninth ward and it was the most incredible experience. It was absolutely the most humbling experience to be able to help so many people, either directly or indirectly. Being originally from Texas, I absolutely love Louisiana, especially New Orleans. I’d love to go back and help out.

If only I had known about this organization when I visited NOLA last fall! We stayed partly in Treme, another historically black neighborhood and there was a lot of damage there as well as a brand new construction. When I asked someone, they said these new houses had just been build from Katrina... 10 years later. I've lived in coastal NC for most of my life so I know the devastating affects of hurricanes but I've never seen anything at that level.
Sarah Benton Coastal living is extremely rough. I grew up on the coast in MS very close to Louisiana. They're even farther below water level than a lot of places. It's almost like a fish bowl. That levee breaking cause so much damage it almost seems unreal. I swear it floods pretty much every time a good thunderstorm rolls through.
Hurricane Katrina happened over a DECADE ago. Everyone still affected, my prayers go to you and your families.

I really appreciate everyone on the Lady Like team taking their time to volunteer. My grandfather has lived in the 9th ward my whole life, including during and after Katrina. I’ve seen first hand what you guys dealt with and I’ve rebuilt houses down there myself. Thank you ladies so so much for your giving.
The direction LadyLike has gone over the last few months is freaking awesome. It's always been a great show, but this latest stuff has been some of the best.

oof, this made me cry. Excuse me while I find some way to go volunteering again, I haven't done actual volunteer work for while and this really makes me want to go out and do something.
is it strange to anyone else who experience Katrina and/or other hurricanes to hear people talk about this stuff? I always forget that other people around the country don't have much if any knowledge about things like contractor fraud after natural disasters and how long it takes the government to actually respond to recovery, esp. if you live on the lower income side of town.
colossalheights yeah it always blows my mind and then I realize they live in separate climates and live around different type of crooked people. But here construction fraud is pretty rampant, as you know you can see people offering construction help on the side of the high way, or on those little homemade signs that aren’t professional.
I live outside the lower ninth and drive threw it every day. I still find it strange that it has not bounced back as much as the other places. I understand the contractor fraud. It happened to my grandma. She was in the area that was effected by the oil in St. Bernard she hired a guy to dig out her front and back yard for two feet and get all the oil out of the soil. A year later FOX8 did a story of oil still coming up when pressure was applied in certain area of her lawn. She also had the Chinese dry wall in one of her rooms.

I'm from another part of Louisiana, about an hour south of NOLA. I remember evacuating to Texas for the storm and coming back to complete devastation, my family's house in pieces. We've had multiple hurricanes and floods since but still none have done the amount of damage that Katrina did. Thank you ladies for coming down here, telling our story, and trying to make our home a better place.
I really loved this because I did Katrina relief work a couple years ago. It was such an impactful week and truly changed my life. I hope you all feel inspired to continue volunteering following your experiences there!
FYI- when your messing with wet insulation, especially when it's been left like that for so long, you need more then a dust mask, you need a special type of mask with a respirator because of mold risk!

i recently got back from puerto rico where i did service rebuilding houses in a rural area devastated by Maria and just like in New Orleans (but maybe worse) the government has pretty much ignored it, and volunteer work is the only hing rebuilding places like this and puerto rico. We (and the federal government) NEED to do better for our own territories and cities

The ninth ward is a place that is very dear to me as my aunt lived in the area until after Katrina. The fact that you’re helping repair the ninth ward is very very appreciated. My mom was still pregnant with me during hurricane katrina and we line close to New Orleans so she said that they evacuated and thankfully nothing happened to our house but it is so sad watching what some people had to go through

13 years later WOW. As a Puerto Rican living in Puerto Rico I can relate to all this after hurricane Maria. It saddens me to think it's gonna take so long to get back to the way it used to be. We are going through the same problems New Orleans are still having. It's not easy but we'll pull through praying another hurricane doesn't hit us again soon. I volunteered with lowernine.org back in January of 2009 and it was a great experience! Definitely recommend this organization to anyone who wants to help rebuild NOLA.
I went on two mission trips to NOLA in 2010 and worked on homes in the lower ninth ward. It’s truly life changing to see the devastation around the city. We spoke to homeless people and they told us stories that could bring you to tears. Most were native to the area and when Katrina hit they just couldn’t leave, it was there home. They decided to be homeless because they loved their home town so much.
Contractor fraud is just despicable! The things people will do to fellow human beings is appalling. Thank you ladies for spreading awareness & highlighting this wonderful organization!

I really love this episode. It has a very special place in my heart because my aunt and her family had to relocate to missouri because they were so affected by the storm. My aunt now lives here permanently because she married my uncle but her family was able to move back home to New Orleans. I’ve been to the lower ninth district and to see the damage broke my heart. It is really amazing that people care and want to help the people affected by the storm. Keep doing your great work!

YES! I've been volunteering with an organization called SBP down in NOLA for the past 4 years. SBP is a nationally recognized non-profit born out of Hurricane Katrina, whose mission is to shrink the time between disaster and recovering. With SBP, I have helped re-do damaged floor boards for a woman who's house was destroyed back in 2005 from the storm, put up drywall in a new opportunity house so a family can move back home to Louisiana, and helped rebuild a second floor of a home that was destroyed in last year's tornado. I'm so happy you've used this series to spread awareness to one of my favorite cities !

This brought me to tears! New Orleans, more specifically the 9th Ward, was so demolished by Katrina. It’s one of the saddest times for our state. My now ex husband, went down to help rebuild after Katrina, and he literally saw dead bodies on the side of the road. Y’all doing this says so much about who y’all are. As someone from Louisiana, I thank you! 💋

I live in Puerto Rico, we aren’t completely done with the devastation that left Hurricane Maria and even today the power (electricity) went off. I just volunteered there over my spring break! It was a wonderful experience. The community is so resilient and kind and grateful for any help. They are such good people down there!! Super rad you guys did this ❤️
I was almost injured or more probably as a small child killed in my home from this storm... this resonates deeply I remember flashes of what happened. A tree fell on our house right after we decided to leave in the middle of the storm we heard a boom 3 mins after we made our way down the driveway the tree fell in my room on my bed where I was right before... I would have been killed and it took months to get the house fixed up not fully again. To see this brings those memories up again and fills me with sadness remembering the families that were in our town from New Orleans all the way up where we were. we donated things and bought supplies and brought it to the arena where they were housed to help it was rough time for them. To see this it is heartbreaking but also fills me with joy to see people still putting in the effort ❤️ Ladylike you are amazing women thank you for helping those people.

No hate but as creators... they should do this more. My church and community does this a lot and this would be a great way to change the internet world which goes into changing the world. If they continued to do this it could influence people to not only speak up but take hands on action.

I love seeing people helping with my hometown. I love this place and I understand their hurt. I wasn't living here when Katrina hit, but so many people I know went through it and it makes me sad that so many people were hurt or died or were taken advantage of.
As a person who lives in New Orleans I just want to say thank you for showing this, and thank you for taking your time to do something like this. I did not live in Nola during Katrina, but my family did. There are still so many people out there struggling and it needs to be known. It makes me happy to see that through this New Orleans mini series you are doing, there is some serious real life things being shown as well as fun stuff. Thank you girls!
I just got back from a mission trip last week in New Orleans. My group was able to go to an empty lot in the lower ninth and clean up the foot high grass, weeds, and trash. Knowing that we were able to clean up just one spot so that in the future someone can live on that piece of land makes me so happy. I love the people in New Orleans because even when they are faced with something hard they have so much hope, and they are able to get things done with a smile on their face. I think we can learn a lot from that.

I have SO MUCH respect for Devin for not stopping at the silly fun things when organising this trip to New Orleans, but also talking about hurricane Katrina and how we can help, and making sure that we learn about history and culture in each videos.
Since moving to New Orleans for college, I've learned a lot about the city, and I'm glad Ladylike went to try to help a part of the city that struggles so much to sort of keep up financially and housing-wise with the rest of the city.
I visited NOLA in 2013, from Australia, and couldn't believe THEN how much damage was still prevalent. It's so incredibly sad to see that there are people still trying to re-establish their physical environment. Well done to you for raising awareness.

I volunteered in NOLA over spring break with a group from my school. The experience really impacted me. I learned so much about the city and what some people there are still facing almost 13 years after Katrina. We worked with an organization that tries to educate its volunteers about a lot of different aspects of serving the city. They also work hard to make sure their clients feel empowered and involved throughout the process. It was amazing to work with them. If anyone has the opportunity, there are so many organizations around the country that want to work with volunteers to meet local needs and create engaged citizens. You don’t have to travel to volunteer, but sometimes it’s really eye-opening to see how community service happens in a different place.
