  • The first fully electric Kawasaki Ninja has arrived. This is clearly a bike for early adopters in North America, but it does have some interesting technology worth taking a closer look at for those of us who are following the electric vehicle space. I'm actually considering a EV bike... but they lost me with no j1772, a 55mph top speed. Doc Brown says it has to go 88mph ,not 88kph.

    Does hitting the brake override throttle? How is acceleration? Do you get to ride these? A third battery would seem nice like mentioned in the other video... 🤔

    As an entry into EV & to show off the technology coming out I think Kawasaki nailed it. It really is more like a hot scooter. I’m very very excited to see hybrid motorcycles. Thank you!

    Helpful review of the E1 Ninja. Thanks. I see there is also a Hybrid Kawasaki being offered too. Pricing will be interesting, usually more expensive early on. I remember reading about the electric 2011 Beta and Brammo EPulse motorcycles back then.
    This bike looks great, although treated as a scooter due to the limited power in this early e-bike from Kawasaki.

    I like the idea of removable batteries (like my eBike), but am not convinced at the safety at charging indoors.... There's so much adverse comment in the UK about charging in houses and especially high-rise buildings for even small batteries like eBikes.
    Have to say much of the adverse comment is around non-OEM batteries from the after-markets.
    New 'code' regulations in the UK for solar/battery installations in houses (this month) now BAN the installation of batteries in loft (roof) space due to the various safety risks (both actual fire, or falling through if fire starts in the buildings). So we now have solar panels on the roof, but the cabling to the batteries MUST be fed down to ground level and a safer place.

      Interesting. I'm not sure if we have those codes here, but there's lots of talk about things. I'll have to read up on what's being done in Europe.

    That range is very poor but I'm sure things will improve very quickly with electric bikes. Good review as always.

      Yeah, I find it interesting that Kawasaki released this in North America, but you're right. I see this as an opportunity for us to evaluate the technology. The next generations will have to have more speed and range to step into mass market adoption, but this is interesting for sure.

    • @oldcowbb
      @oldcowbb Місяць тому +1

      the fact that it is lighter than normal bikes means they can beef up the capacity easily

    • @PeterLoweOne
      @PeterLoweOne  Місяць тому +2

      @@oldcowbb yeah, there's room in the frame for a third battery, if you ask me, and in the body work for another one or two beyond that. Without introducing an entirely new vehicle, we could see this evolve. We'll see!

    Hi Peter. Another nice looking bike, and interesting to see the electric direction - especially with all the infrastructure issues around charging; having said that, charging of something bike-size should be less of a drama than cars, and commercials.
    Be interesting to see what the charge rate is like, and the various options.
    Smaller is likely to be similar to 'granny chargers'.

    • @PeterLoweOne
      @PeterLoweOne  Місяць тому +2

      The on bike charging is quicker than taking the batteries out, especially since both batteries can charge together, but this still plugs into a regular wall outlet, and in North America, that's not the standard for an electric vehicle, but seems to be common on some electric motorcycles.

    So what are the controls around the foot pegs?
    Is that just the front brake lever or is it combined front and rear brakes?
    Looks like the reverse mode is more dangerous than a help.
    Other than that this was a good review video 😎

    Your reviews are great but can I make a suggestion for future reviews? Please spend 30seconds showing the storage space even if it's not much I want to see if I can store my gauntlets there after parking or elbow protectors.

    Sounds like the bike needs a 'kill cord' such as you use in water-sports, RIBs etc.
    That would be so simple, and maybe better than the old style kill-switch near your thumb.

    • @PeterLoweOne
      @PeterLoweOne  Місяць тому +1

      I think it's fine as is. The kill switch is located in the same place as it is for every other motorcycle. It's just always a little different on a bike with no clutch or gearshift.

    When they make one that performs better than the zx10r. I might consider getting an electric motorcycle

    Great presentation of this 'lil EV Kwaki.
    Saw this one next to Hybrid Kwaki in a Kawa exhibition stand in BKK.
    The EV looks really tiny, nice for lane splitting in BKK traffic.
    Ended up buying the 650 Vulcan (for my Ol'Lady), nothing beats gasoline propelled bikes 😂

      @PeterLoweOne  Місяць тому +1

      I'm really looking forward to seeing the Hybrid. I think it will be interesting. Like these models, the hybrid won't be for everyone, but I think it will be better suited for a wider variety of riders.

      @@PeterLoweOne Even with the 450cc gas engine it should be definitely a better option than this 100% EV bike.
      Looking forward to your highly appreciated presentation once you get one available, Peter 🤝

    Those are good performance numbers for a bike that came out 10 years ago. Should be an embarrassment for Kawasaki.

    • @PeterLoweOne
      @PeterLoweOne  Місяць тому +4

      This bike is clearly equipped for other world markets. I don't know that they should be embarrassed. They put it in the market in very limited numbers to see what will happen. Time will tell!

    this would be a fun city commuter but who would spend that kind of money just for city commuting?
    9k euros in my country. more expensive than an MT07. only 1k cheaper than a GSX-8S. no limited range on those, you can go on the highway, etc. EV motorcycles have a long way to go.

    • @PeterLoweOne

      We're in the early stages with electric motorcycles. This isn't made for the mass market, it's made for someone who wants the unique experience of a fully electric bike, and is an early adopter of new technology. They won't be comparing this on price with other gasoline bikes. It's just like when Tesla launched the very first Model S. It didn't have features that Hyundai vehicles had as standard equipment, but those buyers were willing to pay a lot of money for the unique powertrain over other features.
      Personally I own gasoline and electric vehicles. I'm not ready to buy this bike yet, but we'll see where the technology goes.

    • @donderstorm1845
      @donderstorm1845 Місяць тому

      @@PeterLoweOne fair points. it's a niche market within a niche market. i just think that too few people will buy EV bikes at these prices and range, and maybe companies won't find it worth investing in further. the opposite is happening with EV cars, which is growing rapidly. but yeah maybe battery tech will improve a lot in the future.

    no not for me, this is anti-motorcycling, its gotta have an engine and not liable to spontaneously combust

    • @PeterLoweOne
      @PeterLoweOne  Місяць тому +8

      Haha. EV myths being spread. While EV batteries can combust, the likelihood of a gasoline vehicle fire is much higher. I'm not forcing you into an EV, I'm just covering what this bike is.
