I totally recognize this enthousiasm when I bought one for my son. I got the second toy. We make coffee together every weekend. He's standing on a step stool next to me at the countertop and he follows my every step. He even holds the portafilter under my grinder (without wasting beans of course) and he uses my tamper before putting back the portafilter. And I got him a small 60ml stainless steel jug for foaming milk. At the end I pour a bit of foamed milk in a espresso cup after I made my cappuccino and we enjoy our beverage together. He talks me through the process step-by-step and that's so adorable! And he actually has 'practical life lessons' at school where they learn to hand-grind coffee. He takes the ground coffee home with him so I can make filter coffee. I love it! oh, by the way: I modified the portafilter a bit so it's a tighter fit in the machine. I found it a bit too wobbly.
James’s excitement is so infectious in this. I’ve been looking for an espresso toy like these so my kiddo will stop trying to turn the steam wand on all the time
I get how this is a "prank" in the sense that seeing the title you expect gadgets for your home brewing setup, but then again... why not? Also this might be the single most delightful video I've seen aside from maybe the Mokkapot variations, simply because James is so excited and happy. I love it. Thank you for that. James reviewing a bunch of children's toys was not something I knew I needed, but I love it!! I love that his tone, humour, and mild snark was on the same level as for regular reviews. And of course, great material for Hames!
This is absolutely fantastic! 😍 As an incredibly weird person who doesn't drink coffee, but thoroughly enjoys watching videos and reading about it, I'm sometimes feeling a little bit left out when I can't enjoy the end product (well to be fair, it's been years since I last tried it, but I'm terrified of ruining my weird hobby by not liking the drink...). Although I understand the video probably wasn't aimed primarily to the viewers who don't drink coffee, this just makes me so happy! Also, who doesn't like a good toy? 🥳 Thanks!
Yeah, thanks! That's actually what sparked my interest in coffee in the first place. It had never occurred to me that there might be coffee out there that isn't intensely bitter and sad tasting :P
@@camilla1708 if you get a chance, try an Ethiopian coffee. usually a nice light roast and usually has a hint of blueberry. this is assuming you have a fancy roaster/ cafe in your area.
Hands down the best video yet. Educational, critical, and relevant. Truly the message the coffee community needs right now. Thank you for never backing down from challenging topics, James.
It was pure joy to watch this video. I have the Morphy Richard’s percolator that the toy was based on, which I purchased about 15 years ago. The centre is not a dial, but rather a set of buttons in a circle around a central display. The colour, however is brown and black, so I can see why they may have chosen to brighten it up as a kids toy. 😊
Ahh... it's April 1st isn't it.... 😂😂😂 Well done James, you've got us! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Also...Fisher Price coffee bag is still better than a bag that says "Fresh Coffee Beans" 😂
Loved this video so much. We had a version of the first wooden machine in brighter colours when our kids were small and a pod coffee machine at the time for the adults. It was the most played with kitchen toy and our mini-baristas specialised in making custom blends like blueberry coffee. I’m glad we’ve since moved on to V60s and a home espresso machine. The kids are not quite strong enough to grind for me yet - obviously I should have trained them on the Fisher Price.
Watched this with my 3 year old, who wants me to tell you 'um, little girls don't actually eat coffee, they don't drink coffee, only mama and dada do, that man's silly', but also happily chatted along with you throughout the video telling you nursery have that toy, her friend has another, she would like that one, etc 😂 she helps make us coffee from an espresso machine most mornings so I think would be also quite frustrated at some of these toys because she knows that's just not how they work 😂
Did anyone else think of neat adult gadgets or accessories when the title says "toys"? ☕ And seeing James genuinely smile and be happy (like a kid again) makes for a good day! 🐺🔧
I woke up feeling quite under the weather today. Thankfully my 14 year old son has been training as a home barista from birth. For the first time, he made me a coffee. He preheated the espresso machine, weighed the beans, ground the beans using the Ross droplet technique, distributed the grounds using the Weiss distribution technique, tamped with his spring loaded tamper, pulled the shot (2:1 ratio in 30 seconds, 7 seconds pre-infusion), frothed the mild and poured me some “spot the shape in the clouds” latte art. If only these toys had existed 10 years ago this momentous day may have come a lot sooner.
As both parent and pre-school teacher, I feel as though introducing the kids to these toys will get them into coffee culture and I'd have to spend my days pulling decafs for them. I've got enough work on my plate. You've played a blinder, James and team. Well done!
I have never been more entertained, then when i watched James's face at the sound of the water trickling down on the beige machine 🤣🤣 Here i am, a grown man at 11:55pm, watching another grown man, reviewing toy coffee machines.
I love your content James. You are a treasure. This made me literally laugh out loud multiple times. Thank you for this fun video. My only regret is that I have but one thumb up to give this.
I love the sheer effort you're using to contain your excitement during this video lmao. As much as I enjoy watching your videos to enhance my coffee knowledge, it is doubly enjoyable to watch your expressions in doing...interesting and wacky things.
Oh my word what fun toys! I want them all 🤩 I have to say I’m surprised the first set wasn’t Melissa and Doug. That’s what I would have expected from them! James’ delight in these reviews makes me love him even more. 🥰
Oh my lord. I have the Fisherprice set for my 3yo, got it as a gift from my friend and I show my daughter how to do pour overs whenever i actually make my own! She loves the toy grinder and is a great way for her to play with her grinder, while I actually grind beans on my hand grinder. Highly recommend, 8/10
Thank you! I laughed so much! Also I highly recommend charity shops for second-hand coffee stuff for kids to play with. I found an all plastic French press that has had a lot of use brewing all sorts of disgusting mixtures.

🥳 Thanks!
Also, finally a Patreon giveaway I can enter! 🥳
have you seen the video where James tries to get Tom Scott to like coffee? it might be some good inspiration.
Thanks, @@walljedi! I'll make a note and keep that in mind for when I'm brave enough to potentially ruin my new weird hobby :P
Mr Hoffmann is killing it, as always
Ahh... it's April 1st isn't it....
Watched this with my 3 year old, who wants me to tell you 'um, little girls don't actually eat coffee, they don't drink coffee, only mama and dada do, that man's silly', but also happily chatted along with you throughout the video telling you nursery have that toy, her friend has another, she would like that one, etc 😂 she helps make us coffee from an espresso machine most mornings so I think would be also quite frustrated at some of these toys because she knows that's just not how they work 😂
The delight that he got from the wooden espresso machine warms my heart
"They don't have to prove they have children" 😂 James knows his audience!
Yes, James. We will gladly watch you unbox or talk about absolutely anything.
Did anyone else think of neat adult gadgets or accessories when the title says "toys"? ☕
And seeing James genuinely smile and be happy (like a kid again) makes for a good day!
10:42 “Wow, do you have any polyester flares I can wear, Father?” 🕺🏻😆
I don’t think the rest my month will get any better than that quote
I just love the excitement and happiness Mr. Hoffmann emits
As both parent and pre-school teacher, I feel as though introducing the kids to these toys will get them into coffee culture and I'd have to spend my days pulling decafs for them. I've got enough work on my plate.
You've played a blinder, James and team. Well done!
This is literally just a genuine and honest review about coffee related toys, 10/10!
I have never been more entertained, then when i watched James's face at the sound of the water trickling down on the beige machine 🤣🤣 Here i am, a grown man at 11:55pm, watching another grown man, reviewing toy coffee machines.
I have nothing to say but: What a heartwarming video! As per usual you take everything you do (in this case adorably) serious! Love it
Watching James's inner nerdy child playing with nerdy coffee children toys invoked a child's nerdy wonder in my heart
One of the best April Fools videos I have seen in a while. Hames Joffmann in reality, is fabulous.
I love your content James. You are a treasure. This made me literally laugh out loud multiple times. Thank you for this fun video. My only regret is that I have but one thumb up to give this.
Hours later, I realized this was an April 1 post.
Don't care, love it. Billion times better than other "pranks".
I love the sheer effort you're using to contain your excitement during this video lmao. As much as I enjoy watching your videos to enhance my coffee knowledge, it is doubly enjoyable to watch your expressions in doing...interesting and wacky things.
Ok, I'm 30 seconds in and this is already the best April Fools video of this year 💀
I legit didnt figure it out that its an April Fools video. Thought he was just having some fun
Thank you, James. This video was an absolute delight to watch. The sheer joy is palpable, and infectious. Thank you for brightening my day ❤
If Lelit or Gaggia ever design an espresso machine with a clicky bird, I’m preordering one.
"Coffee machines don't have clicky birds" 😂... saved my day!
Oh my word what fun toys! I want them all 🤩
I have to say I’m surprised the first set wasn’t Melissa and Doug. That’s what I would have expected from them!
James’ delight in these reviews makes me love him even more. 🥰
I appreciate the enthusiasm you brought to this video. We need to continually foster excitement of the inner child in all of us.
This video is so good for April fool's. It's so funny watching James trying to hold laughter on multiple occasions.
This video is joyous! "Do you have any polyester flares I can wear father?" just about finished me off 😂😂😂😂
This is why I still absolutely adore this channel even if I don't drink coffee at all.
As always James truly gives the best and definetely most serious of reviews. 5 stars.
Thank you! I laughed so much! Also I highly recommend charity shops for second-hand coffee stuff for kids to play with. I found an all plastic French press that has had a lot of use brewing all sorts of disgusting mixtures.
I love how this starts out as a troll, and by the second toy just turns into a sincere coffee toy review 😆
I was sad, but this video is delightful. I was smiling all the way to the end. So thanks for cheering me up James.
Happy Coffee - Bean
This was the most joyous thing I've ever seen on UA-cam, I applaud whoever came up with the idea! Thank you!!
Oh James, you have made my weekend. Comedy genius! It took me a few seconds to realise it was children's toys. I was expecting actual cheap coffee gadgets. Awesome 👏
I was expecting a video about nifty gadgets for making coffee that are affordable. But this... came as a surprise. You got me 😂
James saying "the joke has landed" while looking straight at me feels very accusatory with the fact that it took me several minutes to realise this was indeed an April Fools video 😅
I have watched lots of hours of James Hoffmann videos. This is the best video he’s ever done. By far. Absolute perfection!
Yep, that does it. This video singlehandedly proved that it's not the coffee stuff that's interesting, but it's just James' soothing voice.
