Several persons in the comments have commented that they have used theirs for years and it's going strong. I can attest to that, it does the job and it won't break unless you drop it on hard floor of course. But it's definitely not flimsy. Hi James, the reason you're having trouble with the metal pour-over 'funnel' is because you used a paper filter. If you had used the included metal filter, the ridges on the funnel lifts it slightly away from the sides, allowing water to drain better. When you use paper, it sticks to the side too much and forcing the liquid to drain only through the small hole at the bottom.

I used to own a Bodum Chambord French press, that is until my wife started making tea in it. She didn’t warm the glass before adding the boiling water and shattered it. I picked up a French press at IKEA as a temporary replacement and I actually like it. It’s not the best, but it does produce a decent coffee. I had no idea -- this must be why a 4-cup Mr. Coffee machine is 20oz or ~600ml of coffee (instead of 8oz x 4)!

I have the funnel and love it. It's meant to use on top of a cup or mug, so the bottom tube isn't in the way. I like that the round thing comes off, it makes it easy to clean. I actually don't use it for coffee. I use it for straining other stuff. For example, straining fruit puree while making strawberry vinegar.

A stainless Moka pot for that price? Sweet! Compare that to a Contessa, Carmencita, or Alessi 9090. Only what's nice about the 9090 is that it latches closed instead of screwing so you don't need a towel to hold the base if you pre-heat your water separately like he does.

I actually really like the french press! (The glass one) We got it a while ago because i wanted to start making some more flavourful coffee in less than the 30 minutes our machine takes and for a beginner like me, i feel it really holds up well! I do pre-heat it to prevent as much sudden cold to hot damage i can, but other than that, i'm extremely pleased with it. (I do also have a hand grinder, but i got it for like 40 or 50 bucks? grinds very well, probably not as even as a professional one, but good enough for my needs)

Disagreeing here. I had a very similar device for a few months. It broke while pressing down, giving a very sharp shard that was a few millimeters from going into my hand. I got a metal french press after that and have not looked back since. Pro tip: Get a designer one that actually carries spare parts long term. Mine is a kosta boda, very similar to the ikea one. If those would have existed back then I would have just gotten one of them.
