    James, you prob won't read this, but for anyone that does - that weird funnel pour over thing - The metal filter in that is a FANTASTIC micro mesh filter. We use it a lot to filter things like chicken stock. It's fantastic. It also fits into an 8 cup chemex (which you don't like very much) quite well, in lieu of the paper filter. I actually like it pretty well as a pour over tool, but I understand that it's confusing. It is, however, very versatile. Cheers!!

    A friend who had the glass and metal IKEA press pot for a dozen years bequeathed it to me on her move to Seattle back in 2016. As an American, I'm sure it surprises no one that when he said "this is 20 pounds" A part of my brain immediately thought "wow that's heavy" before it got slapped by the other part of my brain. Now I'm thinking about a 20lb hand grinder, what the hell would it need to be made out of? uranium?
    Thank you for the video, I was tempted to buy some cheap coffee stuff last time I was at Ikea (since I am a poor college student), but I think I'm going to hold out for something more expensive when I have more disposable income.

      The burrs or blades on a coffee grinder have to be very specifically made and not a lot of manufacturers make them, which is probably where the cost comes from. They also have to be weighty enough to grind effectively

    I´m using the glass french press at work for almost 6 months now. At least 2 full brews from monday to friday up to 4 or 5 some days. And it still works. Nothing broken, quality stable and - what my biggest fear was - even the 3 parts of the filter survived w/o any damage every single dis- and reassembling after every use until now. For very far below 10 bucks a no brainer to me...

    • @voldemortified
      @voldemortified 2 роки тому +1

      Yeah! I was disappointed he just dismissed it. It’s actually a really solid Bodum knockoff! The glass is borosilicate, so it holds up. Sure, it’s not the highest quality or the nicest looking, but it’s great for anyone looking for a decent, economically priced French press!
      I myself picked up two for making cold brew, since buying a couple Bodum’s when I wasn’t even sure I would like the French press for cold brewing seemed a bit expensive 😆. I use them every day though, and they’re great! I’d totally replace them with nicer ones, but they haven’t given me a reason to need to yet!

      It is also a sign that this guy is super biased against IKEA products. He clearly states that he hates these products almost right off the bat. For instance, when he says that the glass french press looks flimsy, it in fact is not (and does not). Several persons in the comments have commented that they have used theirs for years and it's going strong. I can attest to that, it does the job and it won't break unless you drop it on hard floor of course. But it's definitely not flimsy. At least, we know that the products he doesn't hate are actually very good quality.

      Judging from other comments, it was really sturdy. So if someone bought it, they wouldn't need another again for years. Which means that after a while, sales of it will slow down and IKEA won't make as much of a profit on it as on other less sturdy products. So yeah, they discontinued it because it works and that's less profitable in the long run. :/

    • @agn855
      @agn855 2 роки тому +4

      @@MissPoplarLeaf - not really. That cheap stuff won’t get manufactured to be produced for ages (it's not supposed to become a "classic" like a BODUM French press). It simply should lure you into the shop (and if not buying a full blown kitchen, take whatever other stuff to make you a happy & "successful" trophy hunter).
      OTOH, I've got really frustrated after I've found out that IKEA has discontinued "my" vanity basin only 30 years after I've bought its predecessor! 🤣 (so I drove 200km to get it from someone who had it stored for that period of time). Otherwise I would have had to reshuffle my whole (micro) bathroom interior.

      IKEA's ground organic coffee and espresso are okay enough -- we find the flavour on the mild side. Can't beat their price point for organic products though... big fan of their Lingonberry jam, for example. Have the IKEA French press (black plastic with glass) and the fully metal pour-over. The French press is still going strong years later (with no chips or signs of failure) -- the pour-over is new to us and great for single cups. (And yes, the metal bits are designed to come apart for ease of washing individual components.) We have a high quality Italian stovetop espresso doodad for guests who are more serious about their morning coffee experience... that said, most are perfectly fine with the other methods.

    I used to own a Bodum Chambord French press, that is until my wife started making tea in it. She didn’t warm the glass before adding the boiling water and shattered it. I picked up a French press at IKEA as a temporary replacement and I actually like it. It’s not the best, but it does produce a decent coffee. A little more grounds make it through the filter and I don’t especially care for the plastic, but it served its purpose quite well until I found a more decent replacement. I still use it from time to time.

      This may be too harsh but I think supporting NordVPN hurts your credibility as a reviewer. By putting your name, your seal of approval, on this questionable product (NordVPN) puts it at the same level as all your other legitimate endorsements and tarnishes them by association.

      To add to this, they didn't just keep quiet about it, they didn't say anything for a year-and-a-half, until they were questioned about it and had to come clean. Also, if you know how VPNs, servers, networks, etc. work, then their response to customer data being accessed sounds like they're using their policies to deflect the question.
