Shield Dwarf Ranger with Ranger Knight for plate armor and Wasteland Wanderer: Fire going into Gloom Stalker for a very fast running/jumping dual wielding Dwarf in plate armor with axes and hammers that can also speak with animals and feed the party with magical berries. And later probably Wood Elf Ranger with Bounty Hunter and Urban Tracker going into Gloom Stalker and using a bow and later picking some levels of Rogue(Assassin). Half-orc Fighter Champion using 2h axe and a Shield Dwarf War Cleric are also on my mind.
Really? As much as I'm excited for Baldur's Gate 3, it seems like they're making tweaks and breaking rules left right and center. For Example, not needing to Long rest to swap prepared spells for a wizard? Really? Removing standard racial traits and basically just allowing players to pick whatever stats they want? Seriously? Letting human characters have blue/green/purple skin? My gosh, they're trampling underfoot some of the most common-sense portions of the game. "Customization" is only meaningful when the categories still have meaning. Personally, I'd prefer if there was a settings menu where you could toggle all the rule variants between Larian's take and the original DnD ruleset. Even if the game is balanced for the Larian version, I think it's only fair to allow players to restrict their own experience to the default DnD ruleset.
@@Acidica18 The wizard thing I can kinda see, the rest seem spectacularly minor. Especially the racial stats. Just create your character with the standard racial stats and skin color, problem solved.
@@Acidica18 I'm very happy to see how they've managed to implement important mechanics such as reactions, utility spells, and such. The custom racial bonuses option exists in Tasha's (implemented differently), and I have mixed feelings about that for sure, but D&D 5e does officially allow the option to move my half-orc's STR bonus over to INT, for example. Races will still have their other features.. mountain dwarf medium-armored wizard anybody? The skin color option is optional (you have to tick a box to allow all colors not traditional to that race). Crisis averted :-) I'm inclined to agree with you about spell prep rules. I suppose one could argue that a cleric/wizard/druid could prepare spells during a short rest. It seems like a logical compromise. Also, I think long resting should be more costly or have an in-game time component since it's currently easy to abuse the long-rest mechanic. Personally, I prefer not to abuse the long rest feature because I like to roleplay, but that's me. Overall, however, Larian has impressed me with how much they have gotten right. I was much more critical of the earliest versions during EA. Back in the early days of patch 1, the game played like a lesser version of DOS2 with with a bare-bones 5E mod. By Patch 9, I'd say the game really feels like a D&D video game.
@@Acidica185e removed standard racial traits before Larian did, I was unsure at first when it changed for 5e but absolutely love the variation of combinations it's brought to my tables, I was very happy to see the Bg3 release follow suit.
Things to consider when choosing which class to run your first campaign (because we all know we all are going to run this game through several campaigns): Companion Characters: Note the classes and strengths of your desired companions, and choose a class that will best compliment those characters Utility: One lock breaker and trap monkey is a necessity, but having an extra for the missed roll on occasion can be a boon. Heals on the other hand, can be handled by one character (cleric), but I find it preferable to have multiple characters with minor healing abilities (pally/druid/bard). Charisma: Might be the most used stat in BG3, with the many dialogues that dictate your course of action. Do not dump, and maybe lean towards a class that needs high charisma. Gear: Do some research into the gear available, and which classes will be most likely to benefit. The last thing to consider from my 1,100+ hours of EA gameplay: Pick what appeals to you, in spite of all other advice. The point is to have fun, so do that. Full release is almost here!! Good luck ya'll, and don't forget: F5=quicksave
Please don't minmax your first playthrough. Play any class that speaks to you. Do not research what loot or gear you will find ingame. It's fine to do on the SECOND playthrough, definetely not the first. Do not look up shit just play the game.
Wtf, this game looks like it's the definitive western RPG, it's like every high fantasy lover's dream. A robust character creator, tactical deep turn based combat, overwhelming build variety, dice rolls, it's perfect, i really wish it delivers.
As someone who has never played DND or any of the other BG games this video is INCREDIBLE. Thank you so much for the time and effort you put into this.
@ttreazon4706 Oh yeah. A bit of a learning curve (and I'm still learning), but while I don't have a lot of gaming time, I'm still over 50 hours in and loving it for sure. The stories are really engaging and I don't see myself getting bored anytime soon. I've already decided to hold off on Mortal Kombat 1 (I'm busy with this lol) and I'm curious to see when Spider-Man 2 comes out next month if I'm still going to be playing BG3 😆
Only tip you need: Create a character in your mind like if you're playing DND tabletop, then incorporate it into the game and roleplay that character. Create their backstory, choose the class that best fits, play.
@@elhermanodejiren183 Wizards are the ultimate utility caster when prepped right. Sorcerers, with metamagic, have great damage potential. In tabletop D&D sorcerers are the easier class to just "pick up and play" which makes sense as sorcerers are naturally gifted and charismatic. They don't need no book learnin'. :-) But you'd better choose your spells carefully! Same could be said for the bard and the warlock, of course.
This is my first D&D-like experience. My character is a half-elf rogue with a background in crime. I wanted a character with street smarts and skilled with stealth and charisma. Not too far into the game yet but looking forward to seeing how this character plays out.
Same, my starter gonna be 4 element monk / dragon sorcerer drow that somehow get atavism, kicked out from underdark and rescued by hermit monk 8 int 17 wis kinda dull but wise drow rp Oh and im also getting the south west corner tadpole skills and the 18 int headgear for the drow because my guardian told so in the dream rp And oh you bet imma gonna cheese ethel for same reason....i mean guidance from guardian besties
I was pleasantly surprised when I played a Wild Magic Sorcerer that they frequently get options to use their wild magic surge in dialogue . . Typically it would give advantage on a dialogue check. Was really helpful and combined with a ton of Sorcerer specific dialogue.
@@lovethepandainyou I could be mistaken but I believe whichever character you initiate a conversation with or whoever you're controlling when conversation is triggered is the one you control dialogue options for. I'm going purely off memory and a hunch though, so take that with a grain of salt
I've been pleased to see (in EA) that Larian has made the effort to implement some of the special mechanics and subclass features that would typically be omitted in a video game adaptation of D&D.
This. His content is the main reason I bought BG3, not to forget that it became my most anticipated game of '23 because of his lore videos. I did not know much at all about BG or DnD in general before I found his channel. I still do not know half of what I could or should know, but I'm sure I will learn much more from him and from BG3 while playing it. :)
I really dig you saying you can just listen if you’d like in the beginning. I often do multiple tasks while watching your videos and appreciate you letting me know I can just listen.
Honestly a Dex focused war cleric is underrated, A longbow, the sharpshooter feat and the bonus action war priest attacks can be a great way to deal compitent damage while saving spell slots. Alternatively high strength, a big heavy pole arm and either great weapon master or pole arm master can be surprisingly effective too.
I am SO happy with Larian, and quite happy with your coverage of this game. Really glad to be a part of this community. Now that I've said all that GIVE US VARIANT HUMAN!!! :)
I'd love to see this from the perspective of the RP/dialogue effects of the class, how much extra content you get for each class and the vibe of that content
I wouldn't mind seeing this either. Particularly for classes like Monk and Barbarian where I'm curious how pigeonholed you are into the generic way that class would act. Are all monks walking around spitting out bland zen mysticism or do you also get some brawler-y choices where you just revel in unarmed combat. Are the Barbarian options just to be a raging lunatic, or do you get some options to use your strength and wild appearance for more measured interactions that aren't just "RECYCLE, OR I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU!".
Its sucks that it seems like Clerics are going to get a ridiculous amount of meaningful flavor text because they're the only ones able to pick the deity they worship.
@@Lusombras Thanks for your insight. That gives me some hope that all classes will get sufficient roleplay flexibility to be able to play your character the way you want to.
@@RotundRager Hey! Im playing a paladin of devotion who tries to always help people and almost always get a choice bc of my class. People also made comments about me being a paladin for example when i do smth evil. Im pretty sure that every class has special interactions and Rping as them is also really fun
@@DonceBonce I wasnt specifically worried about having no options, just about having only the one option that befits the stereotype of your class. Paladins by nature are kind of stereotypes but I hope its a bit more varied for other classes.
Appreciate the excellent work you do Wolf, nothing like having a cup of coffee kicking back and watching your content and getting pumped for a great rpg most likely. I always have a tough time deciding creating my own character or going with an origin character.
One thing I'm interested in seeing is how the Illusion spells are handled in game like Major Image. They're one of the things that are harder to do in video games usually
My comment isn't really relevant to this game, as it stands, however with Text to Video AI tools becoming a reality, I imagine future magic and illusion in particular will become spectacular.
only have the cantrip, but you choose a location and creatures in line of sight have to make a saving roll or it pulls their attention; loud sounds or being attacked will break their attention on the illusion.
The sheer delight I felt upon the confirmation of Archfey Warlock + patron interaction. My main D&D character is a Feylock and I'm so excited to play with that in game.
This was a great watch, thank you! In Early Access, I stuck solely with Ranger. I just love long-range shots from above, scouting and stealth too much. I feel its a basic class compared to the others, but it fits my preferred play style the most. I also love talking my way out of situations and high perception more than higher ACs. 🙌🏾
I really like how Pact of the Bladr uses Charisma as opposed to Strength or Dexterity. This means you can go 14 Dexterity, 20 Charisma and 4 levels in Warlock and then 8 into Paladin, Sorcerer or even Bard for some serious build-making.
@WolfheartFPS The Eldritch Chaingun lives on. Just for those who don't know the Eldritch Chaingun is where you go 2 Warlock / Sorcerer and maybe even 1 in Fighter to use Quicken Spell to cast Eldritch Blast up to 3 times in 1 turn.
Ew. I'm honestly not sure which 5e sin is worse, making Paladins no longer alignment-locked (only class that really needed to keep that) or making Paladins so strong every munchkin build tries to fit them in for the free smites. Either way, 5e really fucked the class over.
@@raindrain1technically they have to fit within an alignment block that the god they worship covers. Deviating from their God's core values could see their character losing the abilities their God grants them. There are a lot of story-based reasons that can surround multi-classing paladins. They could find a sword and become a hex blade. Warlock and have conflicts between their patron and God. There could be an entire adventuring arc that resolves that. Or they could find that the patron and the god are aligned. So many different story options can be played out here. The same is true for clerics by the way. Being divine casters, they have to also fit within the block of influence that their god covers.
I’m actually having the most fun I’ve had in the last few years playing a halfling Druid. Druids just fit right in with a lot of the events of Act 1, and having speak with animals handy has made me appreciate a lot of things more. Plus Dire Raven form is OP and you can fly wherever 😂
Same for me but with Ranger. I don't normally choose things like Speak With Animals/Dead, but I found that this game really opened up once I took those options.
@QrazyQuarian that's because unlike a real dm they care more about giving you things to actually do with all your skills than trying to kill you every turn
Definitely going to play as an Oath of Devotion Paladin with the Folk Hero background for my first playthrough, I feel like this combination will provide a lot of RP options that go hand in hand.
I'm really hoping they add some kind of character appearance loadout system or something. It'd be really neat to just spend some time thinking up and fine-tuning certain appearance+ ability score+class combo details and saving them for future runs. It would also save a lot of time when joining a friend's game. Just load up one of your characters you haven't gotten the chance to try yet and play rather than spending half of your time with your friend in a character creator tool stressing about what shade of purple looks best on your tiefling.
In every CRPG I have played, I have tended to favour the Ranger class. This time, though, I am totally going with a Wild Magic Sorcerer. If the chaos I encountered in Act 1 is anything to go by; then my full playthrough is gonna be a HOOT 😆
This is so stressful for me, there’s so many options I don’t know what to choose and I’ve already done three different play throughs on early access and EVERY class was awesome 😅
1. Frontline * Barbarian, brutal unkillable warrior with high damage. They rage a lot and love using two-handed weapons. * Paladins, holy warrior, the mix between fighters and clerics. Actually they are one of best classes in the game. They do a lot tank, dmg, support, unique passives auras. Their main drawback is ranged combat. They really want to fight in melee or cast clerical spells. * Fighter the easiest class in the game. Really straightforwad, the go in and stab people. You can actually do everything with fighters. They fight in ranged combat and in melee. Can wield any weapon and armor. They are capable of dealing enormous amount of dmg all the time and can be strong tanks. 2. Support classes: * Bard support, social skills, debuffing enemies, lowest dmg in the game. Typical jack of all trades, they do everything but master of nothing. Unique and strong class that casts spells with songs and instrument. Sometimes capable fighters. Unique abilities such as vicious mockery and inspiration. * Cleric a lot of healing, buffing, some decent damage, they have many subclasses. There are the most durable supports in the game, so if you want a healer that fights in melee the class is for you. * Druid very adaptable, playstyle depends on a circle. They are the best class in therms of crowd control, really good healers, access to amazing summons and they have unique feature that allows them to change into an animal. 3. Mages: * Sorcerer I think they are the best choice if you want deal dmg as a spellcaster. Nova dmg, crowd control, some support. Limited amount of spells so choose wisely but they can do a lot with what they have. Metamagic giving this class unique falvour. * Warlocks they have the best dmg dealing cantrip in the game and they can spam it. This class can be compared to a machinegun of some sort. You have really low amount of amunition but when you fire that will hurt. You can summon creatures for free, really customizable class. * Wizards are probably best arcane casters. They do damage, crowd control, provide utility, support. Lots of spells, only class that is intelligence based. Amazing in combat and out of combat. Many subclasses that are tied to magic schools. 4. Striker - sustain dmg dealers * Rangers, most of the time they are archers. They are the mix between fighter and druid. They deal dmg and cast decent nature spells. Can be build around strenght or dexterity. * Monks are the worst class in dnd but they are fun and unique. They have special resource to perform attacks. * Rogues are versatile do a lot of things. They deal a lot of dmg with sneak attack. Best way to play is to give them a bow and dual wield daggers I think. Best class for lockpicking and they are the last in a group who need a rest.
I can't wait to start a monk and dive into this game. I've purposely put off playing early access so my first experience is a polished product. And Larian is the perfect dev team for BG 🎉
If you are new to DnD and looking to multiclass, maybe try to look for classes to do a "dip" into, like one level into Cleric, which will give SO much to almost any other class, and you can still reach all those high level spells at level 11 in your primary class. Also Fighter has perhaps one of the greatest abilities at level 2; Action Surge. Which will give you the ability to do two actions in one turn per short sleep. Which, if you multiclass with Sorcerer or Wizard, means; yes: 2 fireballs in one turn! If you multiclass into Cleric or Fighter you of course also get proficiency in armor, and if you choose Cleric Nature, Life, Tempest or War you actually also get proficiency in heavy armor, which can be extremely useful for a squishy spellcaster. And of course; just for the fun of it, multiclassing one level into Bard will give you access to a lot of fun with playing instruments for the less combat oriented parts of the game. So yeah for me: Tempest Cleric (with a single level in Bard) + Wizard (with a single level in Life Cleric) and I am not going to decide on the rest until I know how the hireling system works and how much we can change/respec the companions.
If they ever add Swashbuckler as a Rogue archetype, I’m making my DnD character who’s strong af with 9 levels of rogue and 5 levels of fighter. I’ve destroyed bosses in one turn before.
@@MagicianCamilleIn tabletop 5e you can’t cast a leveled spell with both your action and bonus action in the same turn, but there’s no rule stopping you from casting two leveled spells with two actions (enabled by action surge). In BG3 Larian has also allowed you to cast two leveled spells in same turn with two actions AND cast a leveled spell with your action and bonus action(s) in the same turn.
This was really helpful for me, with no prior D&D experience. The rogue and ranger seem like front runners for my first character. I love stealth games
Same! I know nothing of D&D, but those stealthy classes are always my go to in other games I play. The Gloom Stalker Ranger is what I'm leaning towards.
You'd probably love the Gloomstalker build then. Usually people go 5 levels of Ranger, picking Gloomstalker at level 3, and then they multiclass into Rogue the rest of the way. Makes a really cool high damage ranged ambusher build that can also be your skill character as well.
Light cleric is real underrated. That was easily one of the strongest builds I played in EA. On top of that, there's Warding Flare that just makes you harder to kill.
I am so tempted to make a Lolth-sworn drow Assassin with the dark urge background and go full evil. But I'll probably chicken out and make a chaotic good Sorcerer as usual 😅
Dark Urge Oathbreaker Paladin seems like an obvious first play choice, then moving onto more adventerous stuff and goofier builds for the metagaming aspects of playing with the story choices. Obviously going for the every class multiclass for S&G's.
STRanger (Strength Ranger) is really fun, the guide you have for it is great. I like the big damage, beasty summon, and ability to push and throw people. I'm about 80% sure I'll be doing my first run as a STRanger unless monk is too cool.
Thanks for the video ! I just got into the hype of BG3 and was looking for some guidance into what to play without too much spoilers. I also appreciate the wide variety of MTG arts you used to display the classes !
Last version I played was 2e when I was a kid, so a LOT has changed. This video really helped bring me up to date with those changes. They're all for the good, from what it seems. 2e classes were pretty 1 dimensional. Paladins gained cleric spells at higher levels, plus a few innate abilities. Now they look insane.
When the monk was announced, I won't lie, I was so happy. The first ever character I ever made but never got to play was going to be a monk. I think I went for the Way of the Open Hand. I also found out about Elstree I was like yes I would love to be a Drow that followed her. So I'm kinda leaning towards Cleric, but I just might eventually play both. I hope rl will let me do it.
I plan on making a Sorcadin, it sounded like it would fit my playstyle and I really like the idea. From what I heard, you can get a lot more spell slots and higher level ones from sorc so you can take a few higher level smites.
@@KSharp2 Dual-class does not exist in fifth edition DnD. There is only multiclass. In Baldur's gate 3 Larian have removed almost all of the restrictions - you do not need any minimum attributes to pick a new class, there is no limit on the number of classes you can have (you can have 1 level in all twelve classes if you want to) and you can do it in any order. Combine that with respec at your camp in game, and you can experiment wildly within your chosen race. :)
Thanks as usual! Tempest clerics have been considered OP in 5e in earlier levels, and it certainly felt that way when I played one in D&D with the max damage channeled divinity on something like call lightning. Curious if it feels that way in this game?
🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 Tempest Clerics are unfortunately not available in early access so I can't answer that question. We only have access to Light, Life, and Trickery. Will definitely be testing the tempest out on release though! Thanks Sebastian
They might be even more op in BG3, because I heard that it is easy to inflict the "Wet" condition onto enemies and this makes lightning deal double damage.
It's got to be all about the Gloomstalker/Assassin multi-class for me. Super stealthy alpha striker that has massive benefits in darkness/dim light. Seems fun. :D
As a forever DM, I am going to finally be able to play the first character i ever built. A Totem Barbarian Vengence Paladin, and his backstory kind of fits the Dark Urge so thats fitting. He's going to be a monster.
Could even go full Skyrim with it and take a blue dragonborn. The resistance can help in the (likely) case of electrified water, and then you can Fus Ro Dah groups off a cliff with your breath weapon using Thunderbolt Strike at level 6. 🙂
@@tylerdieter4942 Well, Tempest cleric gets shatter, call lightning, and destructive wave -- all pretty great in the right contexts, and all do thunder/lightning damage. Also, they get all the sweet cleric spells - spirit guardians baby. Sleet storm is also a very useful crowd control spell. Now, if tempest clerics also got lightning bolt and chain lightning.....! Tempest Cleric is a great crowd control cleric, with lots of area of effect options. The light cleric is more a pure blaster cleric.
Halfway through the video and I just realized This is just a DnD class overview! I've been playing DnD for years! Why am I here lol. Jokes aside, this was a great video to teach new players about each classes. Not too in depth that it gets overwhelming, but informative enough that players can understand what they're picking and what it might entail. Great writing, man!
Cleric has always been my favourite D&D class. However, that being said, I've somehow finished BG 1 and 2 for the first time with a Paladin, and I feel I'll try to keep that tradition alive with for BG3. So, let's see how long I last before messing up my Oath of Devotion XD
Human Berserker Barbarian! it was my first class I played when I first started playing D&D 5e almost 10 years ago now, it’ll be awesome to see that character I’ve visualized running through this game!!! So hyped!!!
My first playthrough will be a Draconic Heritage Sorcerer specializing in either cold or lightning damage to take advantage of the unique BG3 mechanic of wet enemies taking double damage from cold or lightning. I like the idea of Shadowheart using create water to set up my sorcerer for a big spike of cold/lightning damage. I'm not sure which of the two to go for though, I have no experience with DnD so I dunno how good the higher tier cold or lightning damage spells are.
You get lightning bolt at level 5 and chain lightning at level 11. Meanwhile you get Ice Storm at level 7, cone of cold at level 9 and Freezing Sphere at level 11.
@@Soma6372 Yeah I've been researching all the new subclasses ever since we got the full list a few days ago and I noticed that nice synergy. I was wary of multiclassing initially since I didn't want to delay getting higher tier spells, but apparently larian is tweaking that from what I heard and making multiclassing full caster classes a lot less daunting. I'm leaning towards 10 levels of blue dragon sorcerer and 2 levels of tempest cleric. I may also try storm sorcerer if Larian gives them some extra juice like they did the monk class, since from what i've read storm sorcerer is one of the weaker sorcerer subclasses in regular DnD.
Great work on this video! I can tell this took a very long time to make, and it's very well done. As someone whos never played D&D before or baldurs gate, I appreciate all the info!
Man I appreciate you brian! I always thought that most people would look at gaming content like this and just think it's easy quick work, when in reality this video took 2 full days of work haha So thank you very much for the comment!
As a tabletop D&D player, I'm most excited to try the multiclassing options that just don't work on tabletop due to the 13 stat requirements. Things like Tempest Cleric + Storm Sorcerer, Paladin + Ranger, or Monk + anything :p The bonus action shove for melee martials, and the spell swapping out of combat for wizards, are also new things to try!
i've actually tried a lot of classes in early access and have been really surprised how much i enjoyed playing a light cleric,so a half wood elf light cleric will be my first play through.
I am completely unsure what I'll be doing at launch. Maybe a duergar fighter/rogue? A human sorceress? A paladin with the Dark Urge origin? I'm going to be spending a lot of time with this game.
@Imboz You cannot change race. And besides, I like my characters to be full journey experiences. If the game is as fun and varied as claims. it's no trouble going through multiple times.
I absolutely love that I can basically make up a party full of nature-based characters if it will be possible to create a custom party. Oath of the ancients paladin, hunter or gloom stalker ranger, Druid & maybe a wild magic sorcerer.
Hey Wolf great video as always. Watching your videos is always a highlight of my day, you are the reason I got Bg3 in EA and now I have over 500 hrs in it. I have been a Channel Member for a while and intend to keep it up we even got a chance to play together on New World during a live stream. I just bought a Bermuda Wolf Tee, I am hyped for the full release of BG3, and the videos to come will definitely be rocking my new tee on release day for my first playthrough of the full release. Keep the videos coming Brother.
And I very much appreciate your support Hex. We've been following this early access forever now. It's going to be a little weird when the game actually releases 😂
Wolf, thanks for the great video! I really like the overview of all the classes; so many possibilities! The video really has me thinking about what class/races I want to do on my 1st play through. I thought, for sure, it was going to be Human/Paladin, but Elf/Beast master or Dragonborne/Eldritch Knight are distinct possibilities. Or maybe I'll do the Paladin, but multiclass a Sorcerer. Decisions, Decisions!!! LOL!
Thanks for the video. Years ago I tried to play a Monk and some other stranger characters with a group I was in that played table top D&D. The other players really did not like that, and I think it was mostly from not really knowing them. I was the one that would roll a half-Orc just for the fun of playing something different.
A Dragonborn monk is what I want to be, but I can't decide between open hand or shadow. If I was playing with other people, a Dragonborn bard would be a fun idea.
I have been looking over the classes for this game for a little bit now and from what I have seen, I think one type of multi class I have used befor that worked shockingly well would work. Druid/Monk is a good mix as it turns you into a tank-healer with some aoe effects on top of it.
I played a Gold Dwarf Ranger Knight with the wasteland fire as a melee tank with resistances to both fire and poison, was a very fun build and would be nice revisit it when the game fully comes out
Hey @WolfheartFPS, for many many many reasons I couldn't support you directly over the years, but just wanted to let you know that after following your channel since the announcement of BG3 I just purchased the game via your GOG affiliate link. I know it's not much, but just wanna thank you for all your hard work over many a moon. What a ride it's been!
Thanks for this video! It’s helpful to have this overview of all the classes in one video but it does make it hard to decide what to pick. I’ll probably already be in the character creator for more time than I care to admit, but at least I won’t need to add to it trying to figure out what class I want to be.
Melee Warlocks were some of my favorite builds in the Neverwinter Nights 2 games. Hopefully they will let you add your Eldritch Blast to your melee weapon in this game like in those, to make the Pact of the Blade more interesting.
That kind of Eldritch Invocation doesn't exist in 5e but there is Thirsting Blade which let's you attack twice with your pact weapon and another Invocation at higher levels (which name I forgot) that gives extra necrotic damage to your melee attacks with that pact weapon. Those should probably be in the game
So basically you could do like 5 levels of fighter to get action surge and extra attack, 5 levels of warlock to get Thirsting Blade to get another attack and the remaining barbarian to rage and attack 3 times on first turn, then hit 3 times use action surge and hit 3 times again on the next turn. But it's kinda sad that the Hex Blade Warlock isn't an option so pact of the blade IMO requires multiclassing to be awesome on BG3. I hope they plan on adding content later like more subclasses and maybe even some higher level content to get us further than lvl 12
@@louiesatterwhite3885 I thought it was level 12. But even if it was lvl 12 I probably wouldn't play melee warlock in bg3 without multiclassing so I wouldn't get it anyway.
I plan to run a female Seldarine Drow Rogue (Thief subclass). By FAR my favorite class in D&D. The early access has really whetted my appetite with it's race/class interactivity, I'm VERY curious to see what the rest of the game provides.
I appreciate that you actually put the link to the Paladin guide in the description like you said you would. May seem silly to point out but many UA-camrs just say link below but don’t actually post the link
I've had this idea for a class rolling around my head for a few years now: Seer/Prophet Playable by PCs or DM. In the simplest of terms, the character would be a plot lord. They would have full knowledge of the world as it is and was and be gifted with supernatural abilities to effect fights and events for the better. The class would basically be an offensive liability, but could support the team through divine plot devices. Class spells/abilities: Plot Armor- Cannot wear armor or use simple/martial weapons. Uses Wisdom, Dex and Intelligence mods for AC. Can ignore legal damage once per long rest. Deus ex Machina- summon a friend to save the party in an unwinnable situation or mass resurrect in a party wipe. Flashback- can see events that have taken place in the story that PCs otherwise cannot know. Foreshadow- has partial access to the future and may speak in riddles to help team succeed. Macguffin- carries object that profoundly affects the world. Source of power.
Two quick questions: 1) Is it worth creating a custom character for the first playthrough or is this gonna affect the experience due to not having the origin quest? 2) Is there a lonewolf option for two people coop?
Oathbreaker Paladin is the class I LOVE the most to play as, but somehow not every CRPG lets you play as an dark paladin for some reason. Really glad its in Baldur 3.
With the Mind Flayer theme to the story, I've decided to play as a Githyanki. I'm really into the idea of an Astral Paladin, and I think Oath of Vengeance fits really well with an angry Githyanki. I demand vengeance against the flayers for enslaving my people for generations, and I will adamantly deny my tadpole any semblance of control or power. I'll most likely multiclass into a Great Old One Warlock, seeking to use the power of an eldritch being I stumbled across during my cross-realm crusade in order to shield my mind from the mental abilities the mind flayers employ. I'll most likely play as Dark Urge, and do what I can to try and only give in to my urges in situations that wouldn't break my Oath.
This video is the perfect video talking about classes and subclasses. Simple, gets to the point and you show what the class does with footage. Many other videos on the subject doesn't, which I found baffling. Thank you!
I just wanted to comment (mainly to help the algorithm for your channel, but also in genuine appreciation) and give thanks to for all these vids for BG 3, they have been incredibly informative and entertaining, and have been a great help for me when I am creating a new character to play around with, or even just to understand what different classes, races, spells and feats can do. I don't often give out praise or comment online, but you deserve the kudos. Well done.
Just laughed at myself, I saw the length of this video and said “Nice 40 minutes!” 😂 not many creators get that reaction 👌 love the content wolf! Can’t wait for release!
@@brandonjohnson9876 wait, do you mean Pact of the Blade also gives you Extra Attack (presumably at lvl5) in general? or did you mean they added the 5e invocation 'Thirsting Blade' that you can take from lvl5 onwards? if it's just added to Blade Pact base, then it's a big buff for that choice.
Baldurs Gate 3 is the Lord of the Rings i the Gaming Culture. An perfect storm, an anomalie, this will revolionise the gaming industry. greets from germany
Played and DMed for a long while and I've always had a soft spot for completely non-magical characters. 5e doesn't really allow you to explore this deeply but it's interesting when your friends can literally reshape reality and you need to find unique ways to step up and add value.
The more nature focused classes are more my style, particularly Circle of the Moon Druid and Beast Master Ranger. Looking forward to seeing how many more Wild Shape forms and animal companions are added later.
I am hoping we get an expanded subclass list at some point in the future. Would be nice to have a game where you can test how builds 'may' work without having to waste your time and energy, which is hypothetically neverending as it all depends on GETTING to the level where things open up and getting a group together enough to make it worth the time investment, thats also ignoring any character deaths which may mean starting back at level 1. In short I want my Raven Queen patron :(
I've never so quickly gone from the on fence about something to actually INSANELY HYPED in a matter of 4 minutes and 3 seconds... AND THIS IS JUST THE FIRST CLASS IVE SEEN.... but you explaining all the ways race, class, sub class, fucking IN GAME choices make, holy shit. Purchased and downloading as i type this.
The monk is one of my favorite classes. I like going to a blacksmith and making a bunch of interesting tools like caltrops, throwing knifes, things to blind enemies , I mean you can do so much with them, plus they punch things.
Honestly, don't understand why monks are not more popular in 5e-campaigns. They're crazy good and their subclasses let you lean into a lot of different purposes within the group. You can hit more, waste legendary resistance with stunning strike, your movement becomes pretty insane, evasion, deflect missiles, you basically can't be charmed or frightened. They're just all around a fun class to play and super easy to learn.
Poor AC/HP and low resources (small pool of Ki in early levels) are the answer. And your don't get much to do outside of "punching stuff". And average/low damage for some people (but I don't mind). I'm hoping the One D&D update to the game next year fixes Monks which is my favorite class since Neverwinter Nights.
Hitting more isn’t really a good measure of build quality, and monks don’t really do much damage anyway. Movement isn’t really important as long as one guy in the party has Phantom Steed; 100 foot movement, can dash and disengage for you without using your actions. Absorb Elements exists so Evasion isn’t all that special. Deflect Missiles is basically just a lesser Shield spell. Calm Emotions exists so that last point is pretty moot.
@@burgernthemomrailer I get it, you don't like monks. Your points don't really make any sense, though, since you're basically saying "Play a spellcaster, prepare all these super specific spells and waste all your spellslots to do what monks can do for free in many cases". Or what? Just the spells exisisting somehow means that a person shouldn't play a monk because their abilities aren't 'special' enough? xD I enjoy monks :) They're great!
@@stoephil I guess it's true that it can be hard starting out, but isn't that true of most classes, though? Most classes start out with low HP and AC. But yeah, the Ki-pool is definitely small in the beginning.
There is so much too chose from. Maybe Bard too navigate dialogs and skills. Maybe warlock for Eldritch Blast and patron. Maybe Druid to shapeshift and talk to animals. Maybe Cleric to tank like a god and support like a master. Maybe Sorc have a draconic blood line and see if there are dragons to interact with. I don't know sooo many choices. But fun it will be.
I love games like this that give you tons of choices and ways to play but they also give me serious resetitis. I can never decide what class to play because they all seem so cool. 😂
I recently got Baldur's gate and am loving it. I have a druid, monk, sorcerer and bard campaigns currently going. I gotta say I love being a druid and monk. I can't wait to try some other classes
Is there a magic archer type of class like eldritch archer from pathfinder? Also what do you guys think is the best class for a 1h spell blade character, that can do spells and buff his weapon? The warlock seems like that kind of class but i dunno lol Sorry super noob here 😅 I just dipped into these kinds of games recently, im still experimenting in the character creation in pathfinder wotr and haven't moved on yet 😅 help would be appreciated 🙏 Also thank you wolfheartfps for making these amazing videos my guy!
Ironically d and d has this it's a fighter with the arcane archer subclass but it's not in baulders gate 3. Who knows if It will be added. If you want 1 hand weapon buffs you want Paladin. Of the available ones I'd suggest Vengance as being the closest to what you described. If it gets added though Glory sounds closer to what you want.
@@barcster2003thanks for the reply, it's a shame they don't have arcane archer, yeah hopefully they add it in the future! Oh nice thanks!! Never played a paladin before, I'll check that out for sure 👍 thanks again!
Wow, there is SO MUCH in this game. I'm definitely suffering from decision paralysis whilst trying to choose a class. The Spoor Druid sounds ace though!
If they stick to source really tightly spore druids are...think the dark side of nature. Death and decay. They are good but incredibly niche in their roll. Unlike circle of the moon who has a wildshape for any occasion or a circle of the land who can spell sling their way out of things spore typically fall in an awkward middle ground between needing to be close to take advantage of their passive but needing to be far to be a good spell caster.
CORRECTION 🔴 Not all Rangers get Find Familiar.
So what class are you all thinking about? I am leaning towards beast master ranger / necromancer wiz / spore druid / sorc & pally multiclass.. so much to ponder.

I want to do a multiclass sorcerer/barbarian orc.
As a long time D&D player and DM, it warms my heart how close Larian stuck to the source material
Crisis averted :-)
I'm inclined to agree with you about spell prep rules.
@@Acidica18 I DO NOT ALLOW PURPLE HUMANS IN MY WORLD OF DRAGONS, MAGES AND TALKING ANIMALS
@@Acidica185e removed standard racial traits before Larian did, I was unsure at first when it changed for 5e but absolutely love the variation of combinations it's brought to my tables, I was very happy to see the Bg3 release follow suit.
Things to consider when choosing which class to run your first campaign (because we all know we all are going to run this game through several campaigns):
Companion Characters: Note the classes and strengths of your desired companions, and choose a class that will best compliment those characters
Utility: One lock breaker and trap monkey is a necessity, but having an extra for the missed roll on occasion can be a boon.
A minor note: "compliment" => "flatter"; "complement" => "complete"/"work better together".
Please don't minmax your first playthrough. Play any class that speaks to you. Do not research what loot or gear you will find ingame. It's fine to do on the SECOND playthrough, definetely not the first. Do not look up shit just play the game.

If only they made resting even less of the waste of time that it will always be.
@@Charok1 Waste of time? Meaning you would prefer to not have to rest, or that resting is trivial because it's so easy to do it?
@@elhermanodejiren183 Wizards are the ultimate utility caster when prepped right. Sorcerers, with metamagic, have great damage potential. In tabletop D&D sorcerers are the easier class to just "pick up and play" which makes sense as sorcerers are naturally gifted and charismatic. They don't need no book learnin'. :-) But you'd better choose your spells carefully! Same could be said for the bard and the warlock, of course.

I was pleasantly surprised when I played a Wild Magic Sorcerer that they frequently get options to use their wild magic surge in dialogue . . Typically it would give advantage on a dialogue check. Was really helpful and combined with a ton of Sorcerer specific dialogue.
Ooooh, that's interesting. Does the Wild Sorc need to be your main character to benefit from these dialogue options?
@@lovethepandainyou I could be mistaken but I believe whichever character you initiate a conversation with or whoever you're controlling when conversation is triggered is the one you control dialogue options for.

Honestly a Dex focused war cleric is underrated,
A longbow, the sharpshooter feat and the bonus action war priest attacks can be a great way to deal compitent damage while saving spell slots.
Alternatively high strength, a big heavy pole arm and either great weapon master or pole arm master can be surprisingly effective too.
I say toss in hunter(horde) ranger as well. That mob can become smaller fast

You know Larian is doing it right when other game developers are complaining about the sheer scope and quality of the game, lol.

I've never been interested in the monk class in any crpgs I've played. But, it looks absolutely incredible in BG3
I really like how Pact of the Bladr uses Charisma as opposed to Strength or Dexterity. This means you can go 14 Dexterity, 20 Charisma and 4 levels in Warlock and then 8 into Paladin, Sorcerer or even Bard for some serious build-making.
Same!
@WolfheartFPS The Eldritch Chaingun lives on.

@@jeffreystewart6803 you've just been playing with bad DMs if that's been your experience lol
Ranger is fairly blah and def weakest in this game
This is so stressful for me, there’s so many options I don’t know what to choose and I’ve already done three different play throughs on early access and EVERY class was awesome 😅
All the classes are awesome. Crazy thing is some subclasses can change the feel also.
1. Frontline
* Barbarian, brutal unkillable warrior with high damage.
2. Support classes:
* Bard support, social skills, debuffing enemies, lowest dmg in the game.
3. Mages:
* Sorcerer I think they are the best choice if you want deal dmg as a spellcaster.
4. Striker - sustain dmg dealers
* Rangers, most of the time they are archers.
Pally-lock ftw!
If they ever add Swashbuckler as a Rogue archetype, I’m making my DnD character who’s strong af with 9 levels of rogue and 5 levels of fighter. I’ve destroyed bosses in one turn before.
😮
Can you actually do two fireballs in one turn? Thought you were limited to one non-cantrip spell per turn in 5e.
I wonder how multi-classing either a Gloom Stalker Ranger, or a Rogue, with the Shadow Monk might work out. Perhaps even all three.
I never would have chosen Paladin but after hearing your description that's def gonna be my first play through, thanks❤
Light cleric is real underrated. That was easily one of the strongest builds I played in EA. On top of that, there's Warding Flare that just makes you harder to kill.
Light Cleric was some of the most fun I had playing 5e. I'm trying to convince a friend to do that instead of War for our BG3 campaign.
It put one hell of a smile on my face when the Monk was announced. REALLY looking forward to this.
I agree, since they can use any weapon and wear any armor, definitely sounds like the go to class for a first time playthrough like you said.
Or, hear me out, dark urge moon druid. RP them as basically the embodiment of nature's wrath, like Kagha's shadow druids
@Karak971 oh thats good, never thought about druid. OK adding that to my list thanks lmao.
Dark Urge as the first play is incredibly dumb since you'll be ruining many decisions and moments by ignoring them to focus on the Urge.
See, I'm tempted by Dark Urge Bhaal cleric 👀👀👀
STRanger (Strength Ranger) is really fun, the guide you have for it is great. I like the big damage, beasty summon, and ability to push and throw people. I'm about 80% sure I'll be doing my first run as a STRanger unless monk is too cool.
Love strength rangers! Probably run one myself on my first run
MONKS!!!
Good Luck with your STRanger. Which Subclass?
Amazing breakdown, perfect for a newcomer to D&D like myself. Thank you so much! I'm going to watch this a few time for sure before launch lol.
Cheers. Thanks for watching
This is very helpful as a Diablo player 😆
Bad ass
That sounds incredible. Is multi classing in this where you have to level sorcerer first and then switch to paladin? Can Elves still dual class?
@@KSharp2 Dual-class does not exist in fifth edition DnD. There is only multiclass. In Baldur's gate 3 Larian have removed almost all of the restrictions - you do not need any minimum attributes to pick a new class, there is no limit on the number of classes you can have (you can have 1 level in all twelve classes if you want to) and you can do it in any order.
Combine that with respec at your camp in game, and you can experiment wildly within your chosen race. :)
You’ll want to start with at least 1 level of Paladin or else you’ll miss out on the armor proficiency.
Druid I think ,maybe with raise dead sub class
Druid I think ,maybe with raise dead sub class
It's got to be all about the Gloomstalker/Assassin multi-class for me. Super stealthy alpha striker that has massive benefits in darkness/dim light. Seems fun. :D
As a forever DM, I am going to finally be able to play the first character i ever built. A Totem Barbarian Vengence Paladin, and his backstory kind of fits the Dark Urge so thats fitting. He's going to be a monster.
I had decided what my first class was going to be. . . But after this video, where you made them all sound so appealing, I'm undecided again!! 🙁
My first play-through is definitely going to be a tempest cleric, one of my favourite subclasses.
try multiclassing with storm sorc!
Yeah it very tempting - combination of maximum damage on electric spells and double electric damage on wet targets can kick some ass:)
Could even go full Skyrim with it and take a blue dragonborn. The resistance can help in the (likely) case of electrified water, and then you can Fus Ro Dah groups off a cliff with your breath weapon using Thunderbolt Strike at level 6. 🙂
Man I just really wish tempest cleric got some better spells.
Halfway through the video and I just realized
This is just a DnD class overview! I've been playing DnD for years! Why am I here lol.
Jokes aside, this was a great video to teach new players about each classes. Not too in depth that it gets overwhelming, but informative enough that players can understand what they're picking and what it might entail. Great writing, man!
Yup. Pretty close to 5e with some exceptions. Enjoy your run
Awesome video, can't wait to play!!
This is easily the best class breakdown I've seen yet. Thank you!!
Things like Tempest Cleric + Storm Sorcerer, Paladin + Ranger, or Monk + anything :p
The bonus action shove for melee martials, and the spell swapping out of combat for wizards, are also new things to try!
Doesn't this also requires it?
@@hieroprotoganist3440no, apparently Larian decided to remove the multiclassing restrictions, so no more 13s in stats needed.
@@_claymore That's good.
We can do crazy combs.
i've actually tried a lot of classes in early access and have been really surprised how much i enjoyed playing a light cleric,so a half wood elf light cleric will be my first play through.
Light clerics are so good in 5e, especially if they have telekinetic in BG3. Pushing poor souls into spirit guardians is very satisfying.
I am completely unsure what I'll be doing at launch. Maybe a duergar fighter/rogue? A human sorceress? A paladin with the Dark Urge origin?
I'm going to be spending a lot of time with this game.
since there is an option to completely remake your character later in the game it doesnt really matter, you can always change it
@Imboz You cannot change race.
I'm bingeing your content right now. Everything is edited so well, and I really appreciate your takes. I love this channel.
Appreciate that!
Here here! You should make a behind the scenes "how I edit my videos" -video! Would be neat to see your process.
I have so many character ideas for 5e in my head. Looking forward to trying some of them in BG 3
LOL!
Love how you use characters from MTG as class examples thanks for the overview!
I played a Gold Dwarf Ranger Knight with the wasteland fire as a melee tank with resistances to both fire and poison, was a very fun build and would be nice revisit it when the game fully comes out
Awesome!
Thanks so much for that bart!!!
@@RichHeart89life drinker is locked behind level 14 warlock
@@louiesatterwhite3885 I thought it was level 12. But even if it was lvl 12 I probably wouldn't play melee warlock in bg3 without multiclassing so I wouldn't get it anyway.
@@RichHeart89
Also, hexblade warlock is a thing but idk if they'll add it in the game
I plan to run a female Seldarine Drow Rogue (Thief subclass).
By FAR my favorite class in D&D.
The early access has really whetted my appetite with it's race/class interactivity, I'm VERY curious to see what the rest of the game provides.
Drow gang. Drow gloomstalker for me
@@Raccoozs I'm thinking Drow Monk. Not sure if Seldarine or Lolth though.
Drow Wizard for me. I'm going for a Darth Sidious type build
you're pumping out quality videos left and right, dude. thanks for all the effort you're giving!
I appreciate that you actually put the link to the Paladin guide in the description like you said you would. May seem silly to point out but many UA-camrs just say link below but don’t actually post the link
I've had this idea for a class rolling around my head for a few years now:
Seer/Prophet
Playable by PCs or DM. In the simplest of terms, the character would be a plot lord. They would have full knowledge of the world as it is and was and be gifted with supernatural abilities to effect fights and events for the better. The class would basically be an offensive liability, but could support the team through divine plot devices.
Class spells/abilities:
Plot Armor- Cannot wear armor or use simple/martial weapons.
Two quick questions:
1) Is it worth creating a custom character for the first playthrough or is this gonna affect the experience due to not having the origin quest?
2) Is there a lonewolf option for two people coop?
I also am curious about your first question, I don't want to miss out.
Thank you!
Appreciate you commenting!
@@WolfheartFPS I was looking for this kind of video for a while, you're a life saver!
I was wondering how they would work hexblade to BG3, glad to see that pact of the blade carries over attacking with your charisma!
And a recent interview says that it now gives extra attacks like the martial classes get
@@brandonjohnson9876 wait, do you mean Pact of the Blade also gives you Extra Attack (presumably at lvl5) in general?
or did you mean they added the 5e invocation 'Thirsting Blade' that you can take from lvl5 onwards?
if it's just added to Blade Pact base, then it's a big buff for that choice.
Three Necromancers and one Oathbreaker Paladin.
Unleash the zombie apocalypse ;)
You left the best to the end. Barbarian and Monk for sure. Barbarian always my main on D&D and Video Games.
Cutting Words will always work on the big guys 😂
The more nature focused classes are more my style, particularly Circle of the Moon Druid and Beast Master Ranger. Looking forward to seeing how many more Wild Shape forms and animal companions are added later.
I will go for Beast Master Ranger/Thief Rogue I think. Sounds funny.
@@stoephilAhahaha. Funny thing.
Bards in One D&D are better at being monks than monks.
Or what? Just the spells exisisting somehow means that a person shouldn't play a monk because their abilities aren't 'special' enough? xD
I enjoy monks :) They're great!
Oh my gosh. Sigh. I want to play all the classes!! PS: I was glad to hear that Astarion was not alive in your playthrough! Well done!
The warlock seems like that kind of class but i dunno lol
Sorry super noob here 😅
I just dipped into these kinds of games recently, im still experimenting in the character creation in pathfinder wotr and haven't moved on yet 😅 help would be appreciated 🙏
Also thank you wolfheartfps for making these amazing videos my guy!

I think I’m gonna play drow wild magic sorcerer+bard. Imagine crazy dialogue options I’m gonna get. August 3rd can’t come soon enough ❤
Do it for Llolth
Wow, there is SO MUCH in this game. I'm definitely suffering from decision paralysis whilst trying to choose a class. The Spoor Druid sounds ace though!
If they stick to source really tightly spore druids are...think the dark side of nature. Death and decay. They are good but incredibly niche in their roll. Unlike circle of the moon who has a wildshape for any occasion or a circle of the land who can spell sling their way out of things spore typically fall in an awkward middle ground between needing to be close to take advantage of their passive but needing to be far to be a good spell caster.
