Oh, sick. I'll never get tired of Courtney looking like she's going to fight the mic before a breakdown. Also, for the record, she nails that last bit live constantly.
Spiritbox opened for Highly Suspect at Red Rocks back in October. I had never heard of them prior. They blew HS out of the water and Courtney absolutely nailed the last chorus live.
I saw Spiritbox live a couple of days ago, here in Athens, Greece, and you're right! She nailed it all perfectly, just like in this video. Amazing performer.
I absolutely agree with this! all the bands and vocalists I am into being covered here and its great, I am a novice singer and am really intruiged how these vocalists can scream and have fry etc in their voice, something I am trying to get into my voice.
Yeah, I like both the one take vocal performances she released better than the album versions. The originals fell a bit overproduced after listening to these, to me.
I can confirm! I saw Spiritbox live a couple of days ago, here in Athens, Greece, and you're right! She has a fun and captivating vibe, and she sounds just as perfect on stage! She's an amazing performer!
My daughter passed away last year and this is the only music I can listen to now with emotion, that doesn’t remind me of her, but at the same time, it gets my angst and rage out.🖤
I love and share your reverence for these artists. What really engages me about your videos is the way you put it into words and share the reasons WHY they're amazing. Thank you!
Courtney is freaking amazing!! She's definitely one of my favorite vocalists ever. Her one takes of "Rule of Nines" and "Holy Roller" are also really good
I found you because of Spiritbox but you earned a subscriber out of me. You are so into it and knowledgeable and it's fun that you demonstrate the techniques as well as explain how they're doing what they're doing. Good video man! I'll be checking out the rest!
Hey Chris, just wanted to say that your content is INCREDIBLE and not only do I find it informative, but extremely fun to watch. Your passion and enthusiam for music is infectious and you are such a gem of youtube. Great to see you exploring reactions and getting the recognition you deserve!
The last scream/singing part is so unique and hard to do it gives me chills everytime. By far my favorite part of any song ever created. You really have to do the same exercise with Hysteria next, you'll love the song
Courtney is a BEAAAAAAST. I highly recommend (and Will Ramos will agree, as he's done a one-take of this song): you NEED to check out a heavier song of theirs, Holy Roller. (and also check out Will's take after, because they've actually performed it live together).
I've heard this song hundreds of times. I've watched many, many reactions and reviews. And yet, I still learned things about it, thanks to this reaction. Thank you.
Those "extra nudges" are going to make for a fantastic journey. Happy that you get to venture down that path and get to take us along! Excited for the rabbit hole you just crawled into takes you next.
Perfect anslysis, Chris. I've been studying Courtney's vocals for awhile now and came to the same conclusions about the same techniques she uses to create her awesome, effortless-sounding vocals
Having Spencer Sotelo, Elizabeth from TCV and Will Ramos to give you suggestions and tips, what a team! First Sleep Token now this, please keep doing this analysis!
YAY! Just got the email notification so I had to rush over. Have to punch in from break soon so I'll have to watch it properly later. Can't wait to see Spiritbox for my birthday in May :-D
I'd like to learn how to properly scream just like that and not damage my vocals. I couldn't sing to save my life but I'd definitely be in to learning how to do all that. She's got impressive vocals it gives me chills
Kardavox academy. Mark does a great job dissecting harsh vocals while also talking about how they're done. Just be warned, 5 minute song reactions turn into 30-40 minute videos as he's very thorough
Rule of Nines, Belcarra, and Holy Roller live one takes are also worth checking out. Rule of Nines is such a beautiful and unique song, ominous but mesmeric. I'm so glad I found your channel. I look forward to you teaching me how to sing!
YES!! I am so glad of the suggestions, I love Spiritbox and Courtney's vocals are absolutely fire!! 🔥🔥 I really enjoyed your analysis as well, thank you Chris!
Wow, I am just discovering her on your channel. I am digging it all. Her range is ridiculous. The little things she does is even more interesting in my opinion. It just shows how technical she can be. Her timing is also pretty amazing. Great content. Glad I subscribed.
Can't wait for Tuska 🖤 Metal Festival, Helsinki in June 2023! Spiritbox is one of the reasons I bought the 3 day ticket, Lorna Shore 🖤and Jinjer 💙💛being the 2 other reasons. It's gonna be so much fun!
Courtney is absolutely insane!! First time I saw Spiritbox I fell immediately in love with her voice, she’s so humble and sweet, then she belts these demonic screams with an incredible melodic range. Absolutely mesmerizing and really not getting the exposure this band should, they are amazing live
I'm very new to the science behind vocals, and this video was super helpful. Spiritbox is one of my favorite bands and I've seen this performance many times. But after watching your analysis, it opened my eyes to a lot of techniques in Courtney's vocals i've never knew about before. Subscribed!
This was a great analysis of her one take performance! I recommend checking out Tatiana from Jinjer and her one take performance of Judgement and Punishment!
Wow, hey, what a gem of a reacter you are. You have such unique insight into the stuff you're listening to that you REALLY stand apart from other channels. This is my first video of yours I've watched, but I HAVE to see more now.
Can't believe it took you this long to cover her! She's probably my biggest vocal inspiration right now even as a guy due to all the interesting techniques she plays with in her performances. Great analysis!
First time watching Chris..first 5 minutes you can already tell he knows what he is talking about.. also was wondering if he could actually sing himself( I do not know this gentleman at all ) he then proceeds to sing like a goddamn angel, subsrcibed ahaha great reaction.Spiritbox is now up for a grammy up against Metallica and Slipknot!!
Hahaha I never noticed that she looks like she's going to fight the mic. I love that.
Can confirm, she sounded incredible the whole set I saw. In the middle of a disgustingly humid and hot day.
I saw Spiritbox live a couple of days ago, here in Athens, Greece, and you're right! She nailed it all perfectly, just like in this video.
Amazing performer.
Her "one take performance" for holy roller its incredible!
I'll check it out!
yep, but the rule of nines one is probably the best
@@chrisliepe I second this and you should definitely check out Will Ramos's one take performance of "To The Hellfire."
@@UnafraidCookie It's time for singing...
@@matt.lemonnier and then some screaming
Her switching at the end is phenomenal , really a BEAST of a singer , amazing. Don’t know why but her ending bring me to tears
Man's just pleasing the people left and right! First Sleep Token and now a reaction to Spiritbox?! It's a good time to be a Chris Liepe Subscriber.
I'm glad you're liking the recent content :) !! It's been a blast to make and to actually connect with some of the artists!
I absolutely agree with this! all the bands and vocalists I am into being covered here and its great, I am a novice singer and am really intruiged how these vocalists can scream and have fry etc in their voice, something I am trying to get into my voice.
@@chrisliepe I would love to see a video of Lena scissorhands from infected rain. (song: dying light)
I don’t remember the last time a vocal performance shook me the way this live recording did. Just sublime.
The scream with the lyrics in the "I held the power of a dying sun" part... Chills absolutely every single time
It’s so unique to scream that way. I love it too
Absolutely agree, "holy roller" got me to listen, "circle with me" kept me around.
That end is one of my favorite musical things ever. It almost brings a tear to my eyes every time I hear it.
Same!
I can't not have leaky eyes when I hear it
Literally
I thought I was the only one who got teary eyes from powerful vocals lmao
Yes!!
This version is better than the album, love her screams af the end
Yeah, I like both the one take vocal performances she released better than the album versions. The originals fell a bit overproduced after listening to these, to me.
One of the best emerging bands in metal right now. Courtney is even more captivating and fun live on stage.
She's amazing!
I can confirm! I saw Spiritbox live a couple of days ago, here in Athens, Greece, and you're right! She has a fun and captivating vibe, and she sounds just as perfect on stage!
She's an amazing performer!
I actually get emotional when she sings. She is INCREDIBLY special, and gifted. Spiritbox is the band of the decade.
Goosebumps. Every. Time.
I love how Courtney's brutal screams seem so effortless in her face. Proper technique makes a world of difference
I will never get tired of those absolutely searing high screams at the end. Incredible!
A lot more Spiritbox? Yes please!!
More coming!! :)
@@chrisliepe Yes please! Check Sun Killer and Sew Me Up. Two beautiful lines!
My daughter passed away last year and this is the only music I can listen to now with emotion, that doesn’t remind me of her, but at the same time, it gets my angst and rage out.🖤
Awesome seeing Spiritbox getting more and more attention. Courtney will be one of the brightest stars in the industry soon enough
I clicked on this so fast, Spiritbox is one of my favorites and Courtney is my absolute favorite female vocalist, thank you doing this!
I have such a visceral reaction to her pitched screams at the end. Literally hits me in the chest and brings tears to my eyes.
This one was of the best reviews of Courtney I've seen! You picked up on things that others miss. Excellent
the way she switches back and forth between clean and screams at the end allways gives me goosebumps. shes so good
I've always loved it when singer can switch these insanely distorted pitched screams within a continous sung line.
I love and share your reverence for these artists. What really engages me about your videos is the way you put it into words and share the reasons WHY they're amazing. Thank you!
I was at Louder Than Life 2024! It was epic seeing her bring Poppy and Tati from Jinjer on stage!!!!!! New favorites!!!
Thanks for the sub! Glad you're enjoying the approach!
There is now a video of her and her band doing this on stage with Tatiana from Jinjer. it's amazing.
Rule of Nines is incredible and (I think) does the best job of showing off her range.
Hey Chris, just wanted to say that your content is INCREDIBLE and not only do I find it informative, but extremely fun to watch. Your passion and enthusiam for music is infectious and you are such a gem of youtube. Great to see you exploring reactions and getting the recognition you deserve!

Chris Liepe, you are a fantastic teacher. Just how you explain and demonstrate helps alot!! Thank you brother!!
I love your breakdown, the way you're able to imitate the sounds really adds to the reaction

I couldn't find Ramos doing a one-take. He does have a cover of Holy Roller, which is layered, but it's not a one-take.
@@cloudoftime I misspoke, whoops. His live performance with Courtney is nonetheless a single take.
Seeing this band live was an amazing experience, she just NAILS those vocals every time
This song brings me to tears every time. And it's not even the lyrics, it's simply the beauty and power.
It's the chorus for me, I have the same. The way she sings it is just simply incredible, so soothing but yet so powerful.
I've heard this song hundreds of times. I've watched many, many reactions and reviews. And yet, I still learned things about it, thanks to this reaction. Thank you.
Actually her and her band members are to amazing
The ending is the best part! the most dynamic!
