    I just found this tutorial in April 2023. I had no idea that there are free patterns available for panels! I will be binge watching some of these. THANK you for sharing.

    This is SO helpful! I got the 2 free patterns & all the fabric for Little Peepers by Shelly Comisky. BUT I had no idea about these details & so cut my center panel wrong; & mistakes compounded from there. The free patterns give NO CLUE as to various problems that can be encountered. The customer support from Henry Glass was awesome. And YOUR VIDEOS are so helpful. I just wish I had seen them before I started on these 2 quilts! Some of my fabrics were definitely skewed from the bolt & there seems to be no way to correct that. Another mistake I made is to wash my flannels before cutting. Or I 'steam shrink' the fabric before cutting. That definitely alters the measurements. From now on, I'll be mindful of some of the potential problems & avoid them.
    Again, your videos are very helpful. THANK YOU1

    Thanks for explaining so much about making a quilt from a panel. Now I know why some of my panel quilts have turned out a bit wonky. The gnomes are sure cute!

    I opted to use the cut off parts in the modified court house step block as my pieced borders a red inner and black outer and the binding had some of the other fabric in there. Great little project and a gift for a guy this year...

    I'd love to see the finished panel done at home by somebody. By that I mean doing free motion quilting their self, filling in the different parts of the panel.

    Thank you for the extremely informative video! How did you use do the actual quilting... free motion or long arm? I have a Mickey Mouse panel and Im trying to figure out how to quilt it together on my own machine. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

    It's a shame to completely cut off the cute original borders from the full panel.

      Here is me with absolutely no experience with a suggestion lol I guess you could always put it as some kind of trim on a coordinating pillow? I honestly had to read what you said and figure out what you meant lol. But you’re absolutely right I just couldn’t do the math😂

    Thank you for the video! I just bought the kit and I'm basically a first time quilter. When the pattern says "sub cut" does that mean cut your strips into squares? I'm assuming here.

      Thank you for watching. Yes that means to cut the strips into smaller units. You may also be interested in our playlist for new quilters. Here is the link to the first video in the series. ua-cam.com/video/MLwoIulQZCU/v-deo.html

    If you had left 1/4 red on you could have kept the plant on the boarder

    Do all quilt panels have a floating border? Or is this a Henry Glass thing?

    Why make the boarder smaller after you put it on ??

    Why not cut the size border you need to start with???

      HI bonnie,
      We design these projects and write instructions months before the actual fabric is printed and the panel size can vary from printing to printing. So this method gives everyone a cushion in case the panel comes in smaller than expected. If we had an actual panel with the final size, we would make the borders the final size. Thank you for watching

    What size were the blocks?

  • @GrampiesCorner
    @GrampiesCorner 3 роки тому +7

    What a waste of fabric! Just cut the borders to 1/4 of your desired finish width, then you are not wasting so much fabric! No offense, but what a convoluted way to do it.

    • @TheWhimsicalWorkshop
      @TheWhimsicalWorkshop  3 роки тому +1

      That would be ideal but the panels do not always come in the correct size which is why we do the borders this way. That way if the panels are smaller than the pattern calls for, the quilter can still make the project.

    • @GrampiesCorner
      @GrampiesCorner 3 роки тому +2

      @@TheWhimsicalWorkshop the quilters can still make the project without wasting that much fabric. I have been making panel quilts for 20 years and have never had to go through all that to make a squared panel quilt.

      @@GrampiesCorner thanks for your input, but as a beginner I APPRECIATE her time showing a newbie a way to be successful without throwing a disastrous wonky quilt top to the barn. Be kind. It doesn’t hurt at all.

    "Nohms". I couldn't listen.

    Geez. I simply can’t believe the rudeness of some people. 🫣 why not just appreciate the free tutorial? If you don’t like how she does it just move along. There’s no reason to be so rude.
