  • As someone who has oculocutaneous albinism and nystagmus, Courtney Maye has dealt with reduced vision all her life. After struggling in school due to low vision, Courtney and her mother sought help from Dr. Bhavani Iyer.
Dr. Iyer, director of the Dan Arnold Center for Vision Rehabilitation in the Robert Cizik Eye Clinic at UTHealth Houston, trains patients like Courtney to use low vision tools to help them in daily life.
Through Dr. Iyer’s expertise and passion, along with low vision tools such as telescopes, a bar magnifier, a CCTV device, and a cane, Courtney is now able to succeed in school.
As Dr. Iyer likes to say, “low vision rehabilitation doesn’t save eyes - it saves lives.”
In the heart of the Texas Medical Center and across the state, UTHealth Houston is boldly committed to solving the greatest health challenges of our time through education, research, innovation, and excellence in patient care.
