The life-changing book for me was a book called The Now Habit. I can't overstate how much the principles in this book changed my life; without it, I'd never have gotten into med school or achieved any of the things I'm most proud of. I went to med school relatively late (at age 35) and that was in 2001. I'm not a fan of excuses, but I do think that it's way harder to focus today than when I was in school. The internet was around, but not like today - we had Palm Pilots, which allowed you to keep medical reference materials handy, but they weren't necessarily connected to the internet at all times; cell phones were just becoming popular but weren't permitted to be on in the hospitals. Getting down to work was much easier bc there weren't so many distractions. I'm glad I'm not in school these days, though I think your tips are really helpful!

I completely understand the whole "no TV rule", it is definitely one of my worst habits that I've been unable to successfully kick out. And there is one HUGE reason for this. The reason is that I'm trained to watch TV/Netflix during lunch/dinner. Which is why I end up, at least, spending two hours of my day doing this. What would be an alternative? I've tried reading but I find this extremely difficult to do. Sure, one alternative is definitely talking. But, being quarantined and stuck at home with family does not help with that.
Hi there! Just wanted to pop in and tell you how much I enjoy your style of communicating. It’s so interesting and calming vs what I see on UA-cam where people seem to “scream” at the camera. Great job!! 👍🏻❤️

This week I found and fell in love with your channel. Your voice is buttery smooth! Im devouring the content. You’re the man. Thank you for your channel.
I've been watching self-help stuff for more than a decade and I gotta say something about the way you assemble information makes it very actionable and useful to me. I've actually implemented a short list of things I learned from you in the past week or two. Usually I watch these videos and I'm like yeah ok but nah I don't wanna do that. Thanks a lot man.
I have to agree on the Tv rule, I always feel left out whenever my friends have conversations about Bojack horseman, the office, friends etc, all of which I have never seen but your reasoning made me realise I've just spent my time on other things/goals. Thanks for sharing your tips!
At last, I understand Pareto Principles : 20% of your effort resulted in 80% of the outcome! If I applied it to studying Maths and Physics, that means 80% of the result that I got in the exam came from 20% of the content (the basics). To master the exam, I should focus on the basics rather than the specifics. Thanks for opening a new mindset for me, Ali.
Missed this kind of videos! Love how you categorized the different ways to manage time into principles, tactics and tools! It's smart and the video was helpful, best of lucks!
About that Parkinson law.. I realize it's true but when I have shorter time I always get pressured and stressed and get less done. Also doesn't work much when you have to repeat. Idk. Maybe I just have to manage that stress 🤦🏻♀️
This TV rule really makes a lot of sense- see I was following the principles of working for a set period of time and then watching friends for 30min-1hr but what I realised is once I start watching i lose track of time. Great tip Ali will avoid watching Netflix!
I'm watching all these productivity tutorials and at the end of each one, I realize that the authors most likely don't have a family (like at least one own child) and this is how you can plan so many activities during the day :P Nice video, though.
One word... "kids".. before I had kids I was a brain surgeon, played for Barcelona, ran for parliament and had time to get my daily latte and meet with friends... My advice Ali... Have kids and then come back and advise on timekeeping 😉

I’ve been binge watching all your videos. You’ve helped me so much and thank you for all the time and effort you put into all your videos. You’re an amazing human being ☺️
I am currently working on my medschool study schedule and saw this while procrastinating a bit. Haha will finish watching this then finish it. Promise...
Ali, You’re videos are simply impressive. The way your brain rambles on is, for me, refreshing. It is how my brain works and is the only way i know how to communicate with other humans. You have been the catalyst for organizing my thought process into a cohesive language that some people can actually understand. More importantly, you help me organize my mind and thoughts into systems. Prior to seeing your videos(and from that, Notion) I kept building systems in excel and google drives to input my thoughts and ideas into a computer/database. I spent hours trying/wishing there was a better way to format all of these ideas and thoughts into one space. Thankfully, I recently found Matt D’Avella and Thomas frank and because of that, the UA-cam gods showed me you. I binged so many of your videos, that i don’t know where to start thanking you. I am so grateful that there are people like you out there in the world who help encourage positivity and productivity in such an applicable way. Thank you so much! P.s. A collaboration between Matt, Thomas, and yourself would actually break the internet, in the best way.
Hi Ali, Can you please suggest or make a video about how to type faster. Any method or guide line to practice to type faster will be highly helpful. Fast typing speed really help in saving time. Kindly suggest.
So you're telling me that the way you have time to be a doctor, youtuber, etc. is by having an IOS extension that saves you literally seconds and by learning to type faster? I wish this video wasn't about concepts like the 80/20 rule and arbitrary computer extensions, but a real life view into your schedule. How much time do spend on different tasks a week? What does your calendar look like? I think an answer to these questions would be a far more helpful video.
Love your wathcing TV approach. I never realized that I actually do the same. I have a huge TV at home which I turn on 10 times a year. You're not alone! Cheers
What you are saying about Netflix and TV is soo true. When I moved to Germany to begin my studies I decided not to have a TV in my flat and it completely changed my habits. But then I got a Netflix account and I realised how much time I was loosing by finding the excuse of "I'm coming home I need to relax" I decided to get rid of it and to just subscribe again after I was done with my exams... And I never felt like subscribing it again! :D I can only advise everyone to try to make the same experience! :)

I have to agree on the Tv rule, I always feel left out whenever my friends have conversations about Bojack horseman, the office, friends etc, all of which I have never seen but your reasoning made me realise I've just spent my time on other things/goals. Thanks for sharing your tips!
"How are you so cool?"
At last, I understand Pareto Principles :
20% of your effort resulted in 80% of the outcome!
5:32 such a subtle self-correction. Nice.
Valid Point I have never seen a productivity viedio of a person with family
Finally somebody professional worth talking advise. Thank you for your tips. I subscribed for sure to gain more knowledge . Thanks doc
Waste of 3 secs of my life!
Me: sleeping 14 hrs a day
Time to leave this planet.
Epic one 🤣🤣
@BTS Namjoon Oml joonie 👀
🤣🤣😂
In my to do list..I have added watching ur 1 video daily..it's really vry vry vry helpful
One word... "kids".. before I had kids I was a brain surgeon, played for Barcelona, ran for parliament and had time to get my daily latte and meet with friends... My advice Ali... Have kids and then come back and advise on timekeeping 😉
Truest words spoken, with kids every thing gets interrupted every second whether it's tv or work
I also happen to have the same rule, no watching tv alone! I've never mentioned it to anyone so it's amazing to realize someone else has the same rule
7:55 Ali: *trash talks windows users and proceeds to explain how "Alfred" is revolutionary*
me on my pc: *presses windows button and does the same thing*
I’ve been binge watching all your videos. You’ve helped me so much and thank you for all the time and effort you put into all your videos. You’re an amazing human being ☺️
I am currently working on my medschool study schedule and saw this while procrastinating a bit. Haha will finish watching this then finish it. Promise...
Ali,
You’re videos are simply impressive.
I don't have a netflix account - best advice I got ever!!!!!!!!!!
"...if you are one of those people who sadly use windows"
...
"*WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY?!*"
I had a great time procrastinating with this video. Thanks!
World need this type of youtubers
Windows: sad
Mac: has Alfred
Windows: just use that windows logo key thing
“If you’re one of those people who sadly uses windows” I died 😂
Super helpful! Parkinson's Law and the 2 minute rule are going to be top of mind for me for the next little while. Thanks for this!
Does the rule "dont watch tv when your on your own" - also apply to not watching things on your lap top alone, like you tube videos?
Love your wathcing TV approach. I never realized that I actually do the same. I have a huge TV at home which I turn on 10 times a year. You're not alone! Cheers
Sorry Ali but I'm gonna have to unsubscribe to your channel. My favorite youtuber told me I need to stop watching videos when I get home. Good luck!
U still can keep him subscribed
Hey Ali
😂😂
Watch with a friend
hahahah c'mon dude just leave the subscription in this channel mwehehehe
What you are saying about Netflix and TV is soo true. When I moved to Germany to begin my studies I decided not to have a TV in my flat and it completely changed my habits. But then I got a Netflix account and I realised how much time I was loosing by finding the excuse of "I'm coming home I need to relax" I decided to get rid of it and to just subscribe again after I was done with my exams... And I never felt like subscribing it again! :D I can only advise everyone to try to make the same experience! :)
