I mean, Kevin is a child. He doesn't have the ability to realize how badly his traps can hurt someone. Nearly every trap he builds would have been fatal in real life, some stupidly so. The *one hundred-pound* bag of cement to the head would have completely crushed Harry's head, if not just crushed him into a misshapen mess of bone and meat on the floor. Horrifying.
PeteTheGrouch not really i stepped on a nail when I was young it hurt but nothing serious remember when they hit the wall assuming that wouldn't kill someone that would be worse and the iron on the face and the hot door knob was worse
Kevin seems to enjoy watching the bandits be in massive amounts of pain and have a deep understanding of how to maximise the amount of pain he's going to put them through. That kid is going to be a serial killer when he grows up.
I feel like this could've been improved by making it where the dummy flies back like in the movie. There's undoubtedly secondary damage caused by falling backwards down a flight of stairs after
@@jonpaulcuzon5892 Pretty sure the only reason the can half-decapitated the dummy was because of the fact that it was locked in place. If it weren't the damage to the head/neck wouldn't have been nearly as severe.
You probably would get at least a concussion from falling backwards down the stairs, but hey at least the can would only break your nose, jaw and crack your skull instead of ripping open your neck and breaking your spine. You are VERY heavy compared to the paintcan. Every speed you pick up because of the paintcan makes the paintcan multiple times slower. You DEFINITELY have to go to the hospital after that but it is absolutely survivable.
Well, two notes on these experiments: yeah, the heater thing checks out just fine (it's obvious it won't work the way it "did" in the movie), but for the crowbar and the paint bucket you neglected two significant factors. First the paint bucket: both Harry and Marv have been knocked backwards by the force of the paint bucket, which implied that the collision was almost completely elastic i.e. the kinetic energy of the bucket has been transferred to the burglars i.e. knocked them over, whereas the dummy with the ballistic gel seems to have been affixed to the stairs specifically to avoid that, thus making the results somewhat irrelevant. The other thing is the crowbar: yeah, it's heavy and yeah, it can be deadly, but Harry has been hit with full winter clothes on (i.e. at least a shirt, a sweatshirt and maybe an undershirt too) that dampens the force of the crowbar A LOT, not with bare skin. Once again, a helluva difference.
+AaronTK Kelly Now that would be interesting....a book on how realistic (and survivable) the anti-burglar pranks are. Too bad that it'd need a LOT of experimentation, which makes the price tag (without a sponsor) a bit steep.
Love how you included the set at the end, Jake! That's what's so fascinating about filmmaking - you should include behind-the-scenes shots and footage more often!
Yeah, basically. The iron and the paint cans would do a lot more damage. Plus slipping on the ice, and having your head lit on fire with a blowtorch (yet somehow the curtains on that door didn't ignite).
Doctor: Sir you have suffered 3rd degree burns on your wrist, your skull barely managed to protect your brain, your larynx has literally been torn apart, 7 of your ribs have been broken and your lung and heart have been severely damaged. But how did this happen? Kevin: Let's just say.... it was season's greetings!
Update: Just checked, yes they were opened and used. They weren't full cans, if you check the scene, the cans had a bunch of pink paint drip off points indicating that paint had been used. So the test with the paint cans was flawed, maybe for a future video you could try paints cans with different amounts of paint in them to determine if you could walk away from taking one to the face.
They live in a big house and have a lot of people living there. I'm pretty sure they aren't that cheap and would just buy another can rather than reuse the same one.
Another factor to consider: The skeleton with ballistic gel was fixed to the ground making him receive all the impact of the paint can. A good part of the force of the hit would be dissipated when the hit push the body backwards (In the movie the thieves are hit by the cans but they fall back) so that it did not receive all the force of the impact from the paint can.
They are open and used yes, but it doesnt say if he filled them up with more paint, or water or even screws/nails/rocks etc. If he spends the time rigging it up he would prob take the time to fill them up aswell.
Bandits irl: legit dying by rib fractures, burns, etc Bandits in the movie: no we can’t show that to kids it would be an r-rated movie then so how about we just make the bandits immortal
Techno Aurora the Bulgars disguised themselves as police to try and get inside the houses to they could plan the heists. They did get a police officer to check on Kevin but he knocked on the door and Kevin didn't answer.
My previous comment seems to have disappeared so here it goes again! At 8:10, the conversion text onscreen should read 56.3km/h. I dragged in the wrong title card and feel nothing but shame. Shaaaammmeeeee SHAAAAMEEEEEEEE
Well actually if you are defending yourself from people IN your home you have the right to do what is necessary to keep you safe that includes if you kill them for example if they are chasing you will a crowbar and you shot them and they die it would be marked as self defense most likely with no jail time at all, although if they don't enter the house and are just on you property that would be a different story. But it depends on the state you are in if you would be tried in juvenile court or not, also it depends on the circumstances whether or not you are dismissed for self defense or not, also depending on if you were charged the circumstances would also take part in how long you would go to jail.
Would be a good laugh sure but the first thing Harry gets would send him to the hospital and they'd be phoning up the mortician telling them that Marv is on his way over from all those bricks =P
Considering the fact that during the paint can to the head experiment, the head went back around 120 degrees in the span of about 1-2 seconds, there is virtually no chance the neck doesn’t snap
If that ballistic gel skeleton wasn't bolted to the staircase then the results would have been different, but I'm sure it would have still been deadly nonetheless.
The neck would probably have still broken, but the partial decapitation is unlikely. 120+ Gs is almost definitely going to kill you, bolted to the stairs or not.
@@miftylifty4279 you might have those backwards there man, airsoft guns are generally safe as they generally only cause welts, bb guns shot from close range can imbed the pellet in the skin, so getting shot in the nuts at point blank range would definately hurt, probably cause some real damage (kevins gun was sticking through the doggy door with most of the barrel and the bandits where close enough to be able to knock on the door without fully extending their arms)
BJJJUDO I mean, that the head probably will not be decapitated. You end up with the broken nose, jaw, and with a concussion. You can also lose several teeth. Force of impact will send his body backward. The experiment had a significant flaw. Dummy was attached to the stairs and the body wouldn't be.
Legit GamR I'm sory but your profile picture makes that comment 100% better, the chibi determined face saying that kills me ,(more than the paint bucket to the head)
One interesting thing with the paint can is that the dummy was locked in place so only the head could travel likely doing more damage to the neck then if the whole body would be able to travel
I kinda just maybe noticed a huge error in this video. o.o The dummy never rolled with the punches. When the dummy got hit with the paint can, the body held its position and the neck took the entirety of the force. I would like to see how devastating this would actually be if the dummy wasn't nailed to the staircase.
PB Johnny Well, the dummy obviously doesn’t weigh as much as a human, so it would be knocked over easily. Putting nails on the feet was just so it stayed in place.
It probably wouldn't rip a human's neck open like it did the dummy's, but the damage to the face and skull would be similar, with the added damage of falling backwards down the stairs
My favorite trap was the chain pull light switch in the basement where it just released an iron down a vent (and yes, the rumbling noise would make most humans to look up at the source of the sound just in time to have their faces flattened). Surprised you didn't go thru every trap. I knew the charcoal lighter would set the door on fire, but I was surprised by how slowly the heat transfer to the other knob would be. Simple solutions always work the best.
Anything in the US that actually matters uses the metric system. It's taught in schools throughout the country. The issue is that everyone is already well versed in the Imperial system. So for basic day-to-day activities, people tend to use Imperial measurements. In fact, it would be a pretty big economic and safety issue to suddenly stop using Imperial units.
Would the temperature outside cause the exterior doorknob to be even more difficult to heat? There’s snow on the ground in movie so it would be cold out.
You can’t train spiders. Lolol they are just some docile species that allow you to do stuff like that. They run by instinct alone. They don’t have a brain that “remembers” like mammals or even reptiles. They can’t even recognize their handlers. I own the same type as in the movie. They are not cognitive at all. Also they are venomous, HOWEVER, it’s more like a bee sting venom. Especially the specific species they used. But again, it’s highly unlikely that specific breed would tag you. They generally only bite their prey so you probably wouldn’t ever get bit. 🤷🏼♀️
@@missywalker864... no it depends on the streinght of your bones, on the way it hits you and on the speed of the can when it hits you. in most cases it would be PAINTfull and not deadly
The paint cans in the movie were used ones he found in the garage or basement. We should consider the paint cans were at least a quarter to half used, meaning they would be much lighter. This would still be painful, but not as damaging as your test suggests. With the crowbar to the chest, your test did not address the layers of clothing he was wearing. With a thick coat and sweater there would be some protection for the ribs.
But V Sauce, if a normal human isn't drilled into the stair boards, wouldn't the force of the paint can send them flying back, crashing head first onto the stairs? With probably enough force to crack the back of your skull in?
Szymon Ptak It's not like you're going to survive long with a skull cracked in both front and back, whoever got that can on the face is going to get, at the very least, brain damage and is most likely unconscious, just waiting to get stabbed
The paint trap experiment is wrong because the “body” is fixed on the ground. So the damage are much higher than if it was not ( the body would move backward with the impact and lesser the damage).
Would probably be the exact same result if the body wasn't fixed. The only difference would be that the body would go tumbling once the neck is broken.
@@Oscar797 neck only broke back like that because body was fixed to stairs. In reality, the impact would transfer down and your whole body would shift backwards. Having the dummy fixed also prevented the can from swinging through the head as well and transferred much more energy to the skull and neck.
I came here just for this comment! 1. Who knows if the paint cans were full in the movie 2. The impact would have looked different if the “body” wasn’t fixed to the ground 🤷🏻♀️
Fairly! The human body can withstand quite a bit of damage but against metal, heat and. . well just anything hard and fairly solid we're kinda like twigs in comparison. As strong as bone is at the wrong angle and someone were to apply a fair amount of pressure could snap it. Even getting bit by a dog just the jaw strength not counting the tugging or pulling is enough to crush bone and rend flesh from skin; and that's just teeth mind you. Another type of bone. . .okay well just basically bone; but still bone is alot softer than metal.
OkEva I dont care what you say, if you train your body to get stronger you could survive a lot of this as well as getting heat resistant. P.S Physics doesnt ALWAYS work.
Valdimir you sound like the kind of guy who would believe you could start shooting yourself with a .22 then gradually increase bullet caliber to become "immune" to bullets.

CoolKoon you should write a book
+AaronTK Kelly Now that would be interesting....a book on how realistic (and survivable) the anti-burglar pranks are. Too bad that it'd need a LOT of experimentation, which makes the price tag (without a sponsor) a bit steep.
CoolKoon wow you thought this comment through... good job and God bless you.
I don't care what I'm wearing, I do not want to be hit with a crowbar, hahaha.

OH NO THAT WOULD BE JIGSAW

Then he would be arrested
Update: Just checked, yes they were opened and used. They weren't full cans, if you check the scene, the cans had a bunch of pink paint drip off points indicating that paint had been used. So the test with the paint cans was flawed, maybe for a future video you could try paints cans with different amounts of paint in them to determine if you could walk away from taking one to the face.
Could've been topped up.
I actually didn't think of that. O.O
They are open and used yes, but it doesnt say if he filled them up with more paint, or water or even screws/nails/rocks etc. If he spends the time rigging it up he would prob take the time to fill them up aswell.

When the robber dies:
Reason of death: BALLISTIC PAINT CAN
Considering the fact that during the paint can to the head experiment, the head went back around 120 degrees in the span of about 1-2 seconds, there is virtually no chance the neck doesn’t snap
If that ballistic gel skeleton wasn't bolted to the staircase then the results would have been different, but I'm sure it would have still been deadly nonetheless.
even with being bolted to the stairs you would have died adding the fall on your back onto the floor is like squeezing lemon juice on a open wound
The neck would probably have still broken, but the partial decapitation is unlikely. 120+ Gs is almost definitely going to kill you, bolted to the stairs or not.

PB Johnny yeah and there was snow outside the door so that should probably be a factor when heating the door handle.
It probably would still break the neck of a person, tho it probably wouldn't tear the neck flesh.
PB Johnny exactly what I was thinking about

My favorite trap was the chain pull light switch in the basement where it just released an iron down a vent (and yes, the rumbling noise would make most humans to look up at the source of the sound just in time to have their faces flattened). Surprised you didn't go thru every trap. I knew the charcoal lighter would set the door on fire, but I was surprised by how slowly the heat transfer to the other knob would be. Simple solutions always work the best.

Finally an American science youtuber shows us metric system. Like 90% of the world uses km,kg instead of yards.
Adam Hope most, I'd not all, science classes in America use that. if we did anything that had yards, inches, etc it wouldn't count
Every science class I've been in since middle school has used the metric system exclusively. Also, doesn't scishow use the metric system?
Adam Hope not even Americans know how long a yard is. Sure, I can tell you it's three feet, but I can't estimate that.

@@samiam3333 that is not true
You can’t train spiders. Lolol they are just some docile species that allow you to do stuff like that. They run by instinct alone. They don’t have a brain that “remembers” like mammals or even reptiles. They can’t even recognize their handlers. I own the same type as in the movie. They are not cognitive at all.
Also they are venomous, HOWEVER, it’s more like a bee sting venom. Especially the specific species they used.
But again, it’s highly unlikely that specific breed would tag you. They generally only bite their prey so you probably wouldn’t ever get bit. 🤷🏼♀️
a can of paint to the chest would be extremely PAINTfull!

@@missywalker864... no it depends on the streinght of your bones, on the way it hits you and on the speed of the can when it hits you. in most cases it would be PAINTfull and not deadly

Chef Brokeardee I watched you video I understood
Kinda funny
The paint cans in the movie were used ones he found in the garage or basement. We should consider the paint cans were at least a quarter to half used, meaning they would be much lighter. This would still be painful, but not as damaging as your test suggests. With the crowbar to the chest, your test did not address the layers of clothing he was wearing. With a thick coat and sweater there would be some protection for the ribs.
Are you telling me Home Alone was not realistic?

Bruhhhhhhhhh
But V Sauce, if a normal human isn't drilled into the stair boards, wouldn't the force of the paint can send them flying back, crashing head first onto the stairs? With probably enough force to crack the back of your skull in?
Well, it's not going to be much difference now, is it? The most trouble that's gonna be there is probably cleanup
ZenoDLC Actually it would make a substantial difference and the dummies neck would probably not have completely teared open.
Szymon Ptak
It's not like you're going to survive long with a skull cracked in both front and back, whoever got that can on the face is going to get, at the very least, brain damage and is most likely unconscious, just waiting to get stabbed
ZenoDLC I didnt say he wouldnt die I just said the results were off because they screwed the body down.
Szymon Ptak
Well, yeah, probably no broken necks, but dead is dead, so it's basically just the same
The paint trap experiment is wrong because the “body” is fixed on the ground. So the damage are much higher than if it was not ( the body would move backward with the impact and lesser the damage).
Would probably be the exact same result if the body wasn't fixed. The only difference would be that the body would go tumbling once the neck is broken.
Also let’s not forget more damage from falling half way down the stairs
Who is to say that the paint cans were even full?
@@Oscar797 neck only broke back like that because body was fixed to stairs. In reality, the impact would transfer down and your whole body would shift backwards.
Having the dummy fixed also prevented the can from swinging through the head as well and transferred much more energy to the skull and neck.
I came here just for this comment! 1. Who knows if the paint cans were full in the movie 2. The impact would have looked different if the “body” wasn’t fixed to the ground 🤷🏻♀️

Damn the human body is more fragile than I thought
