where did you get the diff guards? cant find them anywhere.
Are these available to ship to the UK from FMS , as it seems they won't ship to Glasgow?
Yep FMS hit a nerve with the Traxxas fan boys that right there tells you it’s a threat to them 😂🙌
😅
check out Traxxas sales number sometime. it's not a threat to Traxxas in any meaningful way it's an option for buyers. People should look at this the other way. this truck has ideas and features that other manufacturers will integrate soon specifically turn signals and magnet light connectors. those are both really cool innovations that will be integrated in other manufacturers future models guaranteed but Traxxas is not gonna introduce an 11 channel radio neither is Horizon and if you wanna really cool unique unreliable and strange looking krawler with 1 billion features this is your guy
Yep these stupid Traxxas fanboys don't understand that having competition is the best for the future of rc's and makes these manufacturers compete which is better for us consumers and better for our wallets!
Idk why people complain about "copying"
You can only reinvent the wheel so many times but at the end of the day its just a wheel
Well Canada made their wheels square, that is innovative!
@@sharkey9 I imagine they have some... development hiccups.

I guarantee you. If you invent something and someone stole your ideas. You wouldn't be saying that.
I love the extra styling you have given the Black version; it looks and crawls so well.
I like that you're not afraid to call BS on other channel reviews, even if it's your friend's. Matt really beat that one up....i thought it was pretty weird.
I’ve told him if he does a follow up, he needs to find 19 or more things that are the same 😅
Why weird? I don’t like overcomplicated trucks, TRX4 full function included. Additionally, if yours broke on the first run, you’d probably tell people too. 😂
@@scalebuildersguildmy Xmaxx came out of the box with a defective servo. My buddies Maxx came with a defective esc. Neither one ever worked the first time to make a first drive. Stuff happens. Nobody or no thing has 100% success. Even the expensive stuff is made as cheap as possible. I bet even those plain Jane Vanquish trucks break occasionally. I appreciate a manufacturer who passes some of that savings on down the line and give them a little more leeway on quality issues.
@@scalebuildersguildI'm particularly new to your channel, but I really like and appreciate the work you do, i was waiting for your fms k10 video as i knew you had some interesting things to say, I wish you would do more side to side comparisons with the trx4 as u were reviewing the FMs, im also a huge fan of tomleys videos and this was the kind of video i was expecting to further clarify the exact differences between the 2 in detail and also from a visual perspective. I'm surprised there haven't been more comparison videos between the two, especially if some claim that they're very similar!

how can you say they're not clones!! they both have electric motors and controlled by wireless radios!! ree ree ree! hahaha
And wheels! Damn it!
@TomleyRC especially the wheels! 4 for each crawler? C'mon, it's obvious!
haha
@@TomleyRC total clone.
there are totally clones... except that fms did progress it forward in a few places. i'm all for doing what others have done right and well, and then taking it even a little step forward.
Axle mounted servo! Happy with that!! No idea why you'd want the servo weight higher than it needs to be on a crawler
The preference is based on scale competition rules. CMS basically forces the suspension design to follow real life counter part. In scale rc competition CMS class is considered more difficult than AMS. Hopefully you understand why there are 2 different preferences now.
I have a FMS FMT24 and I'm really impressed by the performance and quality. 👌
The only downside is the availability on spare parts here in Germany.
Yeah, they perform well
if you take the chassis and link geometry... are they the same? these have a significant impact on how everything else fits in it and especially on its performance.
Sigh, I feel your pain Phil. Basically over time the designs of anything get pared down to the most effective solutions. As you said, it's why so many designs in RC are broadly similar to each other. The differences end up being in the smaller things. And those FMS trucks are nice/perform well btw.
I’ll be honest, I love my TRX4s. Yes, I am a bit of a Traxxas fan boy. But that FMS is mwaa (chefs kiss). Especially how you’ve made it all black. I also love the warmer coloured headlights. Cracking job Phil. 👍🏻👏🏻
I’ve tried and tested (almost) every RC UA-cam channel and really I can’t find a more effective channel, Beyond RC is the only other channel I even think is worth watching for a review. Great work and I think the even 182K subscribers is underrated! Another great video to add to the collection😂❤.
i picked up some connectors off amazon to make adapters to run my traxxas batts in this. also, what is the extended pigtail with the capacitor for that came with this ?
Well done! It’s not a clone, it’s an evolution😉
Phil, can you do a test of it set up with the RWD/4WD option?
It will be more fun for the bashing part, but also disengaging the front axle will mimic a center differential.. so for tighter turns in not too steep terrain it should be more manoeuvrable with better turning.
Thanks for keeping up with us😅
Yes… they took the TRX4 and made it better 😇
@@TomleyRCwhen fms has aftermarket support like any traxxas vehicle maybe I’d agree
Great comparison Phil! There’s no denying the similarities or where they got their inspiration from. Regardless, looks, performance, reliability, parts support, that’s the real difference between the two. 😅 I’d love to see FMS do a simplified version, without all the additional bells and whistles!
Yes, I somewhat agree. And as for Looks, Performance, Reliability & Parts support.... I'd say Parts support is the only one Traxxas has in the bag. My 'New'... TRX4 High Trail's steering servo has stopped working after 2 runs, and if the shift servos are still the same as they used in the Summit, then I can't say they'll out last the competition anytime soon, so 'reliability' is certainly questionable.
Anyway... both are great Trucks, and the FMS for the money is really good.
I'll look forward to your follow up with the 19 things the same haha
Fms has just as good support here in the UK , I would argue more reliable than the TRX too
@@110RCSCALETALES Interesting, you can just walk into a hobby shop and they've got parts in stock? Fantastic!
@@TomleyRC I think we'll all be able to anecdotally have evidence to support any reliability claim, long term testing is the only way to truly measure it. All's good though, can't wait to share some additional findings with you. 😘

Happy that you are showing the differences!! Awesome comparison. 👍🏻😁
You are correct sir. They are two different generation K5's as far as the bodies are concerned. The only thing I cannot recall is which year K5 had the turn indicators in the bumper? From at least 1977-89, if memory serves me correctly, the signal lights were always just below the headlights. Regardless, both units look pretty good.
Traxxas is a 69-72 1st gen model. FMS is a 76+ 2nd gen model.
Amazing, what a good set of tyres can do to improve a rig.
I like the FMS version & really 399 isn't a bad price for a capable crawler. I've seen a few bits I don't like but they do sell fixes & I believe FMS will be able to keep up with the demand for spares. When I buy outside the horizon & Traxxas bubble I think FMS would be a decent buy.
If I buy anymore RC's, I would not have money for my other projects, lol. I'll just enjoy the reviews. Thanks mate, this is a good one.
Pretty cool comparison! Crawling is just a different kind of fun. If I'm paying $700+ for an RC though, I'm saving a few more dollars for the D1RC Defender.
My first rc was one of the smaller fms units I ordered from Amazon and I was so stoked!! I got It on a Sunday waited for the battery to fully charge while I finished the football game then get outside and after 3 mins of run time it broke. A small weed wrapped around the back wheel put it in a a bind and snapped the rear drive shaft 🤔
Next day I took it to my locally hobby shop and the guy informed they didn't carry parts for them and called it toy grade not hobby. He recommended I send it back and come buy a traxxas trx4m from them.... which I did and I haven't looked back!! I absolutely love traxxas products..... I have 2 trx4m units... a trx4 high trail k/5 blazer "70s body style" a new rustler 4x4 bls-2...a granite grom and I just got my new arrma 3s big rock in today 😀 Traxxas and Arrma are som eof the best brands in rc I my opinion 💯
Does anyone know if paddle tires can be used on concrete? Is there any harm to the model when used on concrete?
Not sure if it is relevant to the "copy" aspect but the suspension on the FMS seems sooooo much better just from watching you handle it. Is it stock?
I own two TRX4's and a TRX6. I also have this FMS. I can tell you that this FMS is loads better in every way. And yes, the shocks are so much better and smoother than the praised TRX4 shocks, and they flex more being 100mm!
Needless to say, I won't be purchasing another TRX4.
There is nothing needing done to the FMS except wheels, and brass internal rings in the fronts. It could also benefit with even just a tad bit more weight on the front axle to become a pure monster. I'm waiting for some black brass front outer portal covers or steering knuckles to be available. And that will be absolutely it!
Good explanation of the differences. 👍 There are many cars that look very similar from a distance and yet are often completely different. Every brand has its own style and qualities. Although I am quite a fan of Traxxas, I always notice with many other brands how much extra you get as standard for less money. With Traxxas you usually have to change your wallet again to obtain all the upgrades that are needed.
i want to see a best of trail trucks vid featuring all of the competition out there now. it would be a banger vid.
They are totally different
I like how you blacked out the fms blazer.. Great comparison
Yes, looks so cool 👌
I picked up mine here in the states for 399. Free shipping. Where did you get the servo guards? I didn't see them on the website.
They are an excellent investment, A MUST! I just checked so I could link you the part, but they must be out of stock, as I no longer see them, either. I got lucky to have snagged two sets. They are a must, imo, esp if you have gnarly and jagged terrain. Those and the metal driveshafts (which are really heavy), are a very nice touch.
Another great review/comparison. There’s absolutely NO WAY for different manufacturers to make “similar” vehicles without some type of “like” items but these two are NOT the same.
Similar yes, same NO! As usual FMS steps up where Traxxas stays stagnant.
I own many Traxxas and like them but I’m glad to see FMS stepping up to offer stock features affordable vs the ultra high upgrades offered by Traxxas and others. Hopefully this gets more people involved back into the RC car industry (unlike during Covid where isolation drove the market but then people fall out of the RC game as the world started turning again) for keeps as there are more affordable, and just as good if not better, options becoming available.
Hi mate what crawler should I get for £300?
Where did you get the diffprotection from?
For me I’m a fan of having competition. I’ve had my best experiences with Traxxas for trucks and Kyosho for buggies, but here in the US a full function TRX4 (Bronco) non high Trail is $499 shipping included less tax. The FMS is $449 shipping included less tax. The FMS direct $399 price does not include shipping. For $50 more personally I’d pay that extra to have the ability to go to my local hobby shop to buy any part vs waiting 3-4 days+ for FMS to ship me parts. They may be better in UK
i didnt have to pay shipping for mine, odd. got the truck and offroad bumper and it was $404.98 total.
Everyone complains about how dim the FMS lights are but I'm here to tell you as a person from the 70s all lights on those vehicles were dim. Bad grounds😂
You can't compare an 1157 bulb against the current LED bulbs
That’s all very well and good but, where’s the £30,000 truck smash up?…. Oh hang on a minute wrong channel 😂😂😂 nice vid! 😂😂
😅
Glad to see you named your pointer stick now all it needs is a tie lol
Haha.. maybe I’ll 3D print one 😅

Being an engineer that is how you reverse engineer. Looks different on the outside then sell at a lower price for a loss until you secure your market share think wallmart, amazon. Im not saying I agree with traxxas and it's business model. Competition is good.
Yes agree… but let’s not forget these crawlers are just ‘reverse engineered’ 1:1 scales in most cases 👌
Knew I should have got the black. I went with the brown one. Just did the 2wd mod on it. Video soon. Looks awesome bud.
Awesome, Cheaper, Reliable. Better than Traxxas...
Even tho thier both in the same class its good to see them next to eachother. Its hard to get an idea of scale just from looking at pictures.
Can you make a video about 4 links suspension and 3 link with pan hard and see what s better. ?
4 link servo on axle (SOA) every time. Lower servo mount lowers center of gravity and puts the weight of the servo directly on the axle, below the springs where you want any weight. Also, better, equal steering left to right and doesn't bump steer or lean the rig while steering like the 3-link with panhard does. Everything is sturdier and stays in line with 4-link SOA. I hope this helps
yes it does. thank you so much brother. @@OkieDokieBoi
@@Techie_ASMR not a problem. You're very welcome, my friend. 👊
Trx 4 has a cult like following and anything that comes along to challenge it ( let’s face it that’s not hard ) will always get this type of response. If you want a rig that you have to spend huge amounts of money on brass before it’s any good then be my guest. Great vid well done.
Two different scale models of the same real car look similar?! How completely outrageous! I must form an angry mob
Tell it how it is Tomley👍👍 I have had two trx4's and both never worked right out of the box 😞 my fcx10 perfect. 🥳🥳
Yeah, the servos seem to be the weak point. One of my favourites is the Element Enduro SE… just a simple crawler with no frills
Funny....both of my trx4s work perfectly. 2 years on my 79 bronco with stock motor and esc and almost a year on my k10 high trail that also has stock motor and esc.
I would say that it is a compliment, calling something a trx4 copy!
Are these available to ship from FMS to the UK as it seems they won't deliver to Glasgow ? 🤔
I like chrome but the murdered black chevvy does look ace, you nearly forgot the difference of the traxxas toy grade windows also you forgot the other one, the traxxas servo`s die after a few runs..........can i ask again what camera you use for outdoor filming, have you thought about doing a video "how you film"
My TRX4 servo is actually on the way out from the ‘dog toy’ video. That’s only it’s 2nd run… and all my Summit ones have died at least once… although that wasn’t the purpose of this video, and it would have triggered way more fanboys 😅.
I’m planning a how too on my second channel 👍
The all black looked so much better. For some readson the bright colors makes the body look off when ot comes to thr dimensions
WPL c 74 jimny review plz. By the way, love your videos.
Yay a 11 minute infomercial for your raffle - nice comparison.
Free one next, nobody will complain about that ;)
It's definitely not a clone. They may have gotten some of their ideas from the TRX 4 but that's how this hobby is. I'm an Element fan boy but can tell you that the element lineup is based off of the 10.2. Vanquish? Also based off the 10.2! No one talks about that 😂
'A boddehs a boddeh innit?' **carefully jots down the new pick-up line**
every single rc company looks at what works in other makers designs borrows elements makes slight design changes then implements them into their model, even the rc hobbyist borrow parts and bodyshells from other models to make them work better or look similar to others, all i can say is i couldn't care less even if it was a slight copy/clone, i thank god for the cheaper makes because if it wasn't for them i wouldn't be able to afford to have a hobby, do we all moan about the clearl...possibly copied spare parts you can buy on discount sites or do we just buy them anyway because they're a ton cheaper than oem and um mostly work?
I agree… it’s in pretty much every industry. There’s a point you get to where innovation can only get so far…. Portal axles on full size trucks gave the design for them on an RC Crawler.. if you change the design too much, they aren’t gonna function correctly. People forget that these toys we play with get a lot of there components from their 1:1 counterpart
Nice job mate, glad you did this. Thanks.
Thanks for the correct unbiased review. FMS knocked it out. Nice to have options.
Well, the Traxxas has a bit more quality, the body is more detailed, I like more how it is the system, links etc. The quality of the light system of the traxxas is over the average, same functins than other chenese but better construction. The other is a chinese RC car imported direct to UK and it is a cheaper option. If I go to mud etc I would choose the cheap option, If I whant to upgrade and have a nice RC car I will go for the traxxas.
outstanding episode, like always. I would love to see your revision of the HG4-52 Toyota. Cheers!!!
Did the Ford Mustang define a new class or is the Chevy Camaro a copy/clone? It’s nearly 60 years later and “they” are still debating that.

I know where my money would go! FM's is so nice. Especially your black on black version
Why do companies only make k5 blazer bodies? There’s some other nice gens like the 92-94 full size blazers
chevy stopped making blazers (full size) in '92, but that was just a tahoe before the rename, last actual blazer with a removable top was 1991.
Just entered the raffle would really like one of these
have to say i like the FMS car better just becus i like that year of chevy better. dont know how part support for fms is in sweden but totaly going to take a look on them
traxxas has the same year blazer, just not a high trail version, my son has it., they do have a pickup in square body in high trail though.
Music during the crawl sounded like something straight out of Starfield lol
I'm sorry Mr. Tomley, but it takes 20 differences to prove they're not the same (with corresponding bell chimes). Seeing how there are only 19, they're clearly identical.
Hahahaha
if you had the correct trx4 this would be better. the one you need isnt the high trail but the '79 blazer from traxxas. by the way, the grills on them both designate them as 1979 blazers, maybe thats why people think this is a clone of the traxxas one. i have the high trail and my son has the '79, and i just got the fms one, took them over 2 1/2 weeks to get it to me. we both also have the fcx24 blazers which also have the '79 grill.

I don't think anyone is saying the FCX10 is a 1:1 copy of the TRX4. However, it is so similar that you could call it a copy. There is little to no chance FMS would have come to those design conclusions without the existence of the TRX4. Spending 10 minutes proving the FCX10 isn't a literal copy is a waste of time, but thanks I guess? Call it a copy or "heavily inspired". I don't think it matters. There aren't a lot of revolutionary ideas in RC. Most are derivative. It's that iterative/derivative process that allows the hobby to move forward. If Traxxas owners want to be upset, maybe they should direct those feelings toward Traxxas themselves who haven't come out with a new trail truck platform in 7 years.
The POINTERS NAME IS PETER! I DON'T KNOW WHY THIS EXCITES ME...
🤣🤣
I mean they made slight changes of course but general design is surely a copy of the trx4 lol I mean it looks more a trx4 than an SCX10, trail finder, or enduro no ? let’s see which one can be bashed harder, durability test!
More than slight changes.. it’s obviously using the TRX4 as abase for its design, but when you sit them side by side, nothing is the same, just the functions are. Only so much you can do with portals and servos etc…
The fms models are here to stay....it looks great

You could say the FMS is one the answer to the Traxxas.
I will not claim it’s a clone but, Clipless body and locking diffs, I think, didn’t exist until Traxxas. I could be wrong but I can’t think of anything else. I think Axial started the dig function or at least Axial made it a popular option. At this point, if FMS “cloned” anyone, they cloned everyone. The only thing I can I think of is unique on the market is the Vanquish Phoenix VS410 with the remote switchable overdrive and the Element Gatekeeper/Ecto trailing arm design.
My 2005 Hilux had remote locking Diffs... so Traxxas must have copied that :)
@@TomleyRC yes but aren’t all RC cars technically a clone of real cars/trucks/ 10x10 Russian tank trains.
@@mangler.m4950 yes, that's my point. So to say FMS copied Traxxas is wrong... because they all copied 1:1's :)
@@TomleyRC To be fair, I am agreeing with you that it is not a clone. I am not defending the claim that it is a clone. I’m only saying Traxxas may have been the first to have those features in an RC car. Remote Locking diffs were in the Summit way before the trx4 and Clipless body started on the XMaxx or maybe the ERevo 2.0. The FMS is a pretty cool truck and has a hell of a price. If I was starting fresh and wanted a crawler, it would be a toss up between the FMS and the new Redcat Ascent Fusion.
Well, we all know it couldn't be a copy/clone... because we would have already heard about the law suit if it was. 😂

Hey Tom do you remember when we were kids and use to stick a playing cards in are spokes to make a simulate the sound of a motor? Can you try this in a rc truck. Not with a card per say but maybe with another motor inside a soda can hitting against something inside the can to simulate the sound of a motor.
Hahahaha great review FMS is really hitting it hard with amazing products I totally dig what they are doing
i see what you dig there
My FCX10 has been run less than 3 hours. The steering servo is dead. The esc freezes in reverse. It feels cheap and was. The nicest thinf about it is the transmitter.
I believe you have to switch the toggle buttons to get rid of the reverse delay it’s not a issue the servo I’ve looked at mine & it’ll be one of the first things I replace it’s common unfortunately I have a SCX 10 3 JLU that was $500 & the dig servo died first time out & soon after the main servo & I have a TRX 4 2021 Bronco & the main servo went out on my first run in water & it was t even actually submerged just went through a little water & that was over $550 so ya kinda see the point. Eventually FMS is coming out with a separate esc so you can replace the motor & still use the remote that will be one of the things I’m waiting for so I can replace all the electronics.
@Casitascrawlers nope, it's not a toggle issue. The fact that other brands sell rtr's with shity servos is no excuse. From the web page filled with erros to the truck that was rushed to market too quickly I'm unimpressed with FMS. I'm glad others are enjoying there's, I've had a different experience. Have fun crawling or trailing or building today.
@@franklee6301 I know there is a double tap rear throttle you can change to normal with the toggles but sometimes it’s just bad luck I’ve seen real new cars with without even plates yet broken down & for sure anyones thought would be ok well don’t buy that brand but but just like reviews if I see one or to negative reviews on anything & 100 good reviews I’d buy that product with out hesitation it’s just human nature to not be happy with things & complain. 😂
