I really enjoy seeing your solutions to problems since so many channels and shows gloss over any issues. I also gotta say I really dig this project, it looks like it will be great fun on track and street.
19:32 “it’s a reverse Supra really” lmao
I died here
Hahaha, I just got that.
For stripped allen heads hammer in a Torx bit that's slightly larger :D makes things so much easier
Yup! Agreed.
I've done this a few too many times. Hell even when I can't find the right hex key
Yup I do the same. allot easier
Had to do that to a stripped phillips head bolt recently. Drill a hole in the head, hammer in torx socket, amazing that this works better than using the phillips head in the first place...
I get the welder and a nut and it’s out in a minite
Cutting a groove into that Allen head was genius !!
Love this build so far. Thanks for all the hard work!
Slow and steady baby!!! Almost there!!!
3:20 so satisfying
Congrats on going over 300k subscribers!
The engine bay looks SUPER/"SUPRA" clean. Loved the tip about the vibrant exhaust clips (did not know they existed)...so many people slap on a new/larger exhaust and use stock/used hangers. But, the clips plus new hangers is the way to go unless you want a rattling fart can.
I know the feeling of the first start. Always want to rush to get it. Can’t wait to hear it!
Cardanic is a great go to shop for axles and shafts in the GTA. My mom's Suzuki Grand Vitara needed a rear CV axle and they made one to fit for us as there wasn't any aftermarket for the version we have.
The stock fan controllers on the e46 are a known weak point, and tend to fail internally, so for a performance car like this I would recommend you get an aftermarket fan controller. Loving the build btw.
would be interesting to see when your done. do a lap with the blanket, check the engine bay ambient temps. then run a couple of laps without it.....truly see the rel world difference
That thing you are holding is a Bosch LSU4.9 UEGO sensor. 99% of all widebands use the same sensor. Even the Holley Terminator X ECU uses one in a direct circuit without a gauge. I use an AEM Wideband myself. My former brand wideband went into set up mode and froze there after 6 months use. AEM has better equipment and tech help than some of the others.
the quality of your builds is just amazing... not a single undetermined detail
e46 is so timeless the body ages so well never wanna sell mine
That is one good looking engine bay!
"We've been putting in the funk"
I know what that means!!
As you are using the oem NA brake booster, you may need to run a vacuum pump if you find you are suffering from a hard brake pedal. Saab 93 Turbo’s have one you can repurpose
Awesome guys! What we are really here for is a beard tuning episode from Dave!
WOW! What a beautiful, well done setup! That car can probably make 500WHP in it's sleep.
If you don't want to spill oil while pouring it, position the container horizontally when pouring. That way air can also come in as you're pouring, so it goes smoothly.
Best tool for applying that heat shield material is a rubber glove full of sand to push with!
Blue balled
I had annoying sound from my Diff (E46 M3) when I turned sharply in a parking lot type situation last year. I thought I'd try to save a few bucks by using Liqui Moly diff fluid of the same weight and for LSD. I also added a friction additive from Liqui Moly to hopefully help with the diff clutches. It didn't help at all. I ran it for a month or so thinking I was going to have to buy a new diff but decided to break down and buy the OEM BMW diff fluid as all the forums said it worked almost all the time. It cost me (Calgary, AB) Retail Just under $200 for the three 500 ml bottles. (1.1 liters needed). Well I was blown away that it worked amazingly well. My diff is great and no noise. I don't know why it has to be their diff fluid but believe them when they say it MUST be the BMW diff fluid for a Limited Slip Diff. Nuts.
I picked up one of those same Austin Power pumps you referred to later in the video @ Canadian Tire. They work great.
Good attempt boys!!! You’ll get her next time😉
Good tip cutting a Flat into the top of a stripped screw, happens a lot with hex and allen heads 👍
this thing is going to be so badass, can't wait to hear it run
Cant wait for the start up video!! Its gonna sound so sick!
You’re eventually gonna break that drive shaft
Just get a one piece from driveshaft shop
“ it’s not often I get to use a pump this size” praying for you Dave
Man you guys are putting in work on this build! much appreciated..
The W in oils stands for winter. As in multi grade oil. Different viscosity at different temps one for summer one for winter nothing to do with weight.
What about temps..because 10w40 15w40 20w50 are not even close to winter oils lmao!
@@upnorthviking823 depends where you live
Wow Guys ,If this runs as good at the Art work Looks then You have a Special Car Wrapped around a Motor ! I know it will be amazing !!!
I binged this series yesterday and somehow missed there was a 16th episode.....SCORE! 👍😍
Very nice work, guys! Keep it up!
I keep saying but you have yet to prove me wrong, best car channel on youtube!!!
So much craftsman ship!
You guys are doing Great!
Keep it up boys
Is that a Bad Obsession Project Binky reference from DP at 9:52
Ryan M I was wondering the same thing
Edge of my seat... Success!
"Swedish Austin powers pump" - loved it
Well... could the EWS system prevent u guys from starting it?
Now you guys should build a rb26 m3 wagon
extremely beautiful car. it's definetely on my list
Hose clamps look easier for exhaust hangers than those plastic things
Congratulations on 300k subs!
Love watching you guys, been following for awhile. The viewer rebuild contest is an awesome idea! Will the viewer be chosen at random like a lottery or will y'all be picking your favorite?
I have really really enjoyed this Rebuild. But I have to say..... "it's a RADIATOR - not a "rad" and it's not that much harder to say" LOL - besides my petty thoughts, this a great series. Thanks for making it.
The BMW Arpus!
i would love to support you guys at the $50 level and get my ls400 pimped out but i'm so far! washington state is easily a 4 days trip from ya
the heat wrap around the wastegate vacuum tubes might heat the tubes up instead of keep them cool. happened to a friend of mine wrappinng some lines instead of his exhaust.
Hey dp and pt i didn't kno you guys had your different logos in the new need for speed heat game that's awesome and love the build and cant wait to hear it run
Grab the bolt head with vice grips
So yummy.... great work guys
You've got to change that air filter. It's so gaudy. Put a small K&N or Air Raid or something else that has that mechanical/industrial/typical/Proper look.
Patiently awaiting the Evo..
Nice work guys ofc we will w8!
If you want to make a groove in a bolt for a flathead ever again, I‘d recommend you use a Dremel. It‘s very easy and very fast to do and you have less risk of slipping off the bolt.
Should call this the "Reverse Supra" as opposed to the Swamp Thing.
Isn't the coolant overflow location going to immediately bleed under your right rear tire? - not sure the best idea on track
Even though the car didn't start this episode, jokes on you because I was going to watch the next episode anyway so..
Gotta love the duct tape band-aid, lol.
haha reminds me of the summer I worked for a handman/home refurb comany...cut the crap out of my hand and they handed me duct tape....works well.
@@chads7796 Haha, yup! It works for pretty much everything, lol!
what installation did you use to make the 2jz compatible with the bmw and which ecu to use?
"I could have been drunk?" -DP 2020
Valvoline? Uummm... Motul 0w50. Have used that in my drift and track cars. Interesting choices
Please get another filter like evolves eventuri or K&N, that JDM blue filter worries me. A longer 90’ elbow and filter fitting right in the corner behind the headlight would allow you to build a heat shield / air box.
14:02 open the box, replace the wire... you can’t make it any worse
What's the name of that pump used to fill diff fluid. Really need something like that for my e92. Thanks!
Dude, I'm sorry, but you're gonna regret installing that DEI adhesive heat screen... I've used it under the car by the Evo 6 gas tank and within 1 month it came off. Tghe engine bay is even worst unless you wrap a pipe with it, and tie-strap it to prevent unraveling
Very surprised you are going with the oem fan controller hack and not an independent controller like mishimoto
Just curious as a using BMW ECU
If you happen to buy a new fan try to get the cheapest. There are lots of "brands" but supposedly most fans are the same the comparing them, just different pricing. Unless going for a OE fan which should be expensive if still available. There some forum threads for E46s that handles those issues.
..and you found a controller xD
I had cheap fans lose fins at highspeed on highway..cheap is cheap.dont mount a cheap fan in front of a radiator its all i can say
@@upnorthviking823 yeah but does it help if the same product costs 120 or 220 usd? Just retarted to pay more for the exact same product
"Confirmed that the Dorman fan is made in Taiwan so I suspect it uses the same source parts as the Behr, MTC, TYC and URO version"
You should never power a fan with a DTM connector - it's only rated at 7.5 amps per pin. Even a DT connector would be lacking at only 13 amps per pin. A DTP connector is much larger, but can do 25 amps per pin continuous, which is more in line with powering a fan.
If I were to win the "Build your car" would you come build it in South Africa? :D
Awesome stuff as always, guys!
Only one question though, why did you use 0w40 oil instead of, let's say, 10w40 (which would've been my first choice)?
To use it in colder weather...i also use 0-40 during winter and 10-40 15-40 summer
If you think that's expensive you should see how much my sst transmission fluid cost for my evo x
How come this episode/part isn't in the playlist?
I know you guys said "no engines swaps" but you could.... put a rx8 renesis in my brz?
Lmao!!! They are both slow but might as well keep the frs engine hahahahaha my mother back in the day had a brand new rx8 a pontiac sunfire beated us lolllll junk like the frs but you wont waste time and money!
Is that the 370mm shifter ?
I have a coolerworx converted m3. Had a weird episode yesterday where it wouldn't go into 4th. And now it feels like it has slight slop front to back. Wondering what it could be?
Could you tell part number of the rebuild you have information of the parts you used for the exhaust manifold and turbo and intake manifold, thanks.
What make is the ‘Swedish Austin Powers pump’? The Sealy one I have is crap and leaks everywhere!
Yupp i love 40weight in my k20,,k24,,j35 and even in my ninjas 🤪
Foiled by the EWS. It’s not seeing the rolling code to send a signal to the starter to start the vehicle I’m not too hot on aftermarket standalone system if they can bypass it but I’d check with the manufacturer and see if there is a workaround. Or it’s possible clutch switch is not taught into the system to enable the system to start. I’d be surprised if it were that simple. Good luck boys have fun!!! And great build by the way.
The EWS in the Toyota ECU?
puttitat2 naw the EWS is it’s own module and it’s looking for the correct signal from the stock DME Or the ECU in layman’s terms and I’ve spent my far share of hours diagnosing no start concerns with E46’s they are a always painful to figure out.
Isaac Chewey Not sure why they wouldn't bypass EWS when doing such an engine swap...
puttitat2 my only guess they wanted the stock key
Isaac Chewey The VFL EWS should be old enough to trick it with a wire loop iirc?
Maybe the clutch safety switch foiled your attempt.
Lmao Swedish pump.
What!!!! NO STart.... Oh man, you kill me.
What is with the e39 m5 in the background?
M5 touring conversion coming in a few months!
@@speedacademy Awesome! I have an e39 m5 myself and would to watch a build like that from you guys.
I was told to always use oem oil filter! Even if youve tuned the engine
Don't overflow tanks always have an outlet pipe? :-)
Some don't
@@lb9gta307 Chinese ones? :-D
@@truthseeker8483 no, well maybe, but some OE ones are just designed to spit it out past the cap
Do you guys need an apprentice?
Nice try boys. I’ll be waiting for them 2J sounds.
The most disappointing ending to a speed academy episode of all time. Blue balls my guy
Mate, you’ve been milking this forever.. slap it up and lets go, i wanna see this thing pop wheelies
Change change this channel name to "The BMW/Toyota Engine Swap Academy" already, because that's pretty much all you ever upload.
What happened to your finger?
Not to be a jerk or anything... but can’t wait until all these BMW videos and projects are over 😂
Way too many 😑
