That transition between the sparkle top and the gold top was so smooth!
I claim sorcery
If it has a T in black marker in the truss cavity it was one I sold a while back. Was a great guitar
Can we just talk about how good troglys editing is getting? At :32 that transition was buttery smooth man.
Trogly is in the HOUSE!
It’s such a beautiful guitar
Love that you sold the blue one to Mike Ness and then demoed this one with "Story of My Life". It's not lost on me. :D
I fell in love with 70s deluxe because of Pete Townshend! This one sounds great - love the bright bridge pickup
Mike Ness has quite the collection of deluxes
I like all the new editing in the video. It was great before but all the lil editing tricks and music makes it a real joy to watch
Huh... 10 likes and no views... must mean its a great review!
In the mid 90s, I had two red sparkle and two blue sparkle Deluxes. All very clean and original, all of them played and sounded great. And this was when the most I paid for any of them was about $600. Oh, the guitars we wish we still had today. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the review and demo of this rarity. Also, great job on the video editing!
I love your channel Austin im a huge guitar nerd and I love learning about all the gibsons you bring on the show thank you for making my days just that much better love you man
Trogly been improving his shots and editing. Really enjoying that he truly wants to improve his content and not just get lazy with his success.
Thanks as always Mr Trogly!
Very detailed and delivered oh so pro! Demo played very well indeed... 😊
Hey man! I just wanted to say thanks for your amazing work, I really appreciate it and enjoying watching it all day. Just wanted to say this🙏🏻
Great playing demo today Austin!
Getting pretty fancey with the editing and the camera shots . I appreciate all the hard work you put into the videos and seeing you progress .
AWESOME video as usual Austin, you probably hear this all the time BUT your playing has sure improved over the past few years! Thank You again for great information and bringing back memories of my grandpa and my Dad, to me TRUE Gibson lovers like yourself!
those transitions are soooo cool, so smooth!
I really enjoyed the in-depth history! Very interesting indeed. Greetings form Estonia!
I really enjoy that playing demo dude keep up the amazing content
Love your channel!!
LPs with mini humbuckers looks so cool
That neck mini-humbucker really does sound good!
I used to have an original 68 Gold Top. It was a solid piece of mahogany body and neck. Bought it at a used guitar shop in Harvard Square Cambridge, Mass. Paid $450 with hardshell case and I've seen this one that you're documenting.
I loved this video from minute one on, really well done, nice video man
I love the sound fx, the bounces, and the spins
Nice effects with the guitar switching love your videos 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
The guitar magic at 35 seconds is awesome!!!! A good friend of mine had this guitar used in 1978 and it has been my Holy Grail to see a real one again. Thank you!!! I love the mini humbuckers. Rocket Red Sparkle was so cool. It was so heavy and would do our shoulders in because we were all super skinny high school kids!!!!
Great vid man thanks
Ouch! I couldn't get it but I'm glad you got to do a review.
That is such a cool guitar, 1974 was a great year, I have a lot of memories from that time, great guitar , I love it, this is the best guitar you have shown yet, it’s awesome👍👍👍😆😆
I'm envious of both the guitar and that form-fitting tool thing that I keep seeing on TV - brilliant use for it
Nice transitions!
Liked the little tribute to Social D at the beginning of the sound test. Tip of the hat to you! 😎
Trogly editing on point 👍
Man your sounding good Austin
Love your channel! :)
That Guitar is you brother. Your playing skills have improved!
I like how those pick-ups sound, nice👍
That’s so awesome Mike Ness from Social Distortion got that guitar!!!!! He’s really into the 70’s Gibson’s. I’ve watched that Ernie ball tone mini doc where he talks about his guitars and amps and talks about his love of those Gibson 70’s stuff!!!
Just Beautiful! Thanks!👍🏼😎❤️
Woah, that's beautiful!
Beautiful finish, thanks.
Keep doing the specks on the work bench! Most interesting part!!
Beautiful
Wow, there is two beautiful blue ones on reverb right now. One has a nice checking pattern. Would love to own one.
Amazing tone
I have a 1974 LP Deluxe in a red sunburst. Those baby humbuckers sound great.
That was a nice transition
I have this very Guitar but in Wine Red. Mine was converted to PAF Pickup (standard) back in the 80’s. This mod gives these LP’s a rip the Mahogany neck LP’s just don’t have. It’s a fantastic Guitar.
A mate of mine had one of these. He sadly passed away a couple of years ago and I have no idea what happened to his Red Sparkle Top Deluxe (it actually looked more of a deep Orange than red in my opinion). His guitar had the maple three-piece neck rather than the mahogany. It’s so long since I saw the guitar that I can’t honestly remember what condition it was in and how much it aged over the years I hadn’t seen it. He (and myself) lived in South Wales in the UK. He also had an early 80s Gibson Flying V which are rather sought after these days. I own a white ‘79 Gibson V myself which I bought around 15 years ago for a pretty decent price and looking online recently I couldn’t find one for less than around £3.500 which is 350% of the price i paid for mine. I have no plans to sell it anyway though but it’s always nice to know you made a decent investment, right ?
The original Deluxe was introduced to use up old Epiphone parts ( mini hum)inventory. Also the pancake body was a cheaper construction method for Norlin.
That's a way far out OMG super dream guitar for me. Man...killin' me.
The damage on the headstock, to me, makes it that much better. I love things like this that show the wear of a good life lived.
Thats pretty cool about the blue one going to Mike. Hes one of my favourite guitar players and hes known for playing Deluxes, and it probably has a set if P90s in it now
You're probably right he loathes the mini humbuckers
I wonder what a blue sparkle top with gold hardware would be like
@@anthonybrookerab He actually did take them out. I found him selling the original pickups on reverb
@@anthonybrookerab reverb.com/uk/item/25979609-gibson-matched-pair-of-mini-humbuckers-1972-chrome-cream-mike-ness-owned
@drifter816 he probably has a few sets as he takes out the mini humbuckers and puts in p90s that Seymour duncan makes for him
Beautiful guitar! I'm digging those mini humbuckers.
Nice Guitar Austin. Had Basalt Blue one for a couple of years, which I bought new in South Wales UK back in my teens. It was my first legit LP and get this the dealer had the pair in his store, so I had a choice red or blue. Seeing your video, I remember the pancake body, double ringed Klusons and Kalamazoo bridge. Wish I still had it now but like so many young players with limited funds, I had to use it as part exchange when I traded up to a Kalamazoo built Tobacco Burst Standard in 1979 ... still got that one.
Man....you gotta love this look. My first drum set was red sparkle. Anyway, these are the models that Pete Townshend customized with those Dimarzio Super Distortion pickups in between these two. He also "moded" them with those stick on mailbox numbers. Anywho. Love it, as per usual. For the looks of it alone, I'd keep it.
that was neat transition edits
Really cool. Sounds great. I should look into a mini bucker guitar.
0:31 LOL that flip caught me offguard :D
and 0:56 haha I can dig it
Dude so cool ! Thank you for a history lesson on my guitar. Mine is green sparkle. Nashvill 77' with ...dun dun dun headstock repair and routed out long ago for humbuckers! I still love it for may reasons one being it was made tbe Year I was born😄
ok... loving the guitar flip and throw video magic.
Oh yeah been waiting on this one
God , I love that ole Les Paul !! I wish I had the money to buy it from you !!
I like the red over the blue.
Thanks a lot Austin. No doubt it’s a stunning guitar, even my wife likes it😀👍
Man that is one nice sounding guitar. Crazy that in the middle position you get almost a telecaster like sound but what all the sustain of a les Paul. Looks like a real Rock Star guitar too.😝
Fun fact: at the thin Lizzy live and dangerous'76 , 77 tour and 78 live album, Scott Gorham played exactly one of these sparkle red Deluxes! Whilst every other guitar you hear is an 58 or 59 Les Paul Standard.
FINALLY!!!
What a beauty!
Who would thumbs down this video? This is one of the best ones to date
I’ve never seen that color, that is pretty cool!!
Epiphone made some in the late 90s-2000s too but I don’t remember that red
I had a 1974 Cherry Sunburst and it sounded just like that. It played like a dream. The Tuners were the worst. It weighed a ton. I cut my finger tips a couple of times. It had an awesome tone, But my Mates hated it because the instability made giging a drag. I tried everything , but change the tuners. One day I was practicing. I stopped Packed it up in discuss. I sold It and bought a Cherry 335, threw the tuners away replaced them with Grover's and never had a tuning issue for over 35 years. But It sounded Awesome. I have 13 Nice Guitars now and not one Les Paul. NOT DEAD YET!
I knew someone who had the red one, back in 1979 - was a cool color and other than the neck needing adjustment, was a nice guitar.
Jup, that's the sound of mini-humbuckers. Kinda weird still to hear that from a Les Paul, no wonder people swapped them out for fullsize ones. A small miracle this one is still original, great find!
Mine is a 1973 Tobacco Burst, modded with Dimarzio Super Distortions. My tribute to my favorite guitar player.
That finish reminds me a lot of the George Harrison/Eric Clapton "Lucy" Les Paul Standard at some angles and a bit orange-y at other angles, still looks freaking gorgeous though
Yeah it's supposed to have like a candy apple red type of a vibe going that's why it appears like that at different angles. I have tried to paint guitars in C.A. red and let me tell ya, it's not easy!!
H
WOW TROGLY AWESOMENESS ON PLAYING. I BET MIKE WILL BE EYEING THIS ONE? 👀 😂 BEAUTIFUL GUITAR. 🎸 ❤😁
Fuck me, I literally just got the notification but there's already been other Troglodytes before me lol. Been waiting for the red rocket sparkle since he showed it in the unboxing. I'd love this guitar. Pure Marc Bolan stylee!
What a beauty.
PRS Polish and Fretboard oil works really good. 🤠🎸🤘
Somebody has been working on their guitar chops lol, sounding good!
That's a lovely guitar. I'd rock that all day.
I saw a red one at the GC in Plymouth Meeting Pa. back around ‘07. I didn’t know they were that rare at the time.It was in the used section.
Nice guitar but I'd have to go with the green sparkle, great info.
Can you try to document a Gibson Byrdland?
I have a Gibson ES-335 TD in Wine red from 1975 (Made in Kalamazoo). When I bought it second hand in 1985 or 86 it had a couple of touch ups in the paint that started to "crack", had a look at it now and it's just started to have some more finish cracks, not bad for a 45 year old guitar.
I dig it and would rock it!
I dig the rocket red. I like the darker rosewood fingerboards.
His playing today was really good
I love that guitar. Bit out if my price but still love it.
i like the doctored footage - seeing emerald was cool. good tones from this one too. BTW, some of us dig " boring" earth tones - these look boss in Natural. Ü ♫
I like the pancake bodies, they are heavy, but has amazing tone and sustain, underrated in my opinion..👌🎸🎶
I've seen the rocket red sparkle anits...red red...this looks like orange soda sparkle. Lol. I played a deluxe with mini hums in it an I finally get the hype .there diffrent..they really are so then I played Tim Henson's Ibanez prestige which is a well prestige lespual custom trouble maker with mini hums in it ...and damn that guitar is ridiculous...u have a chance man try that guitar it will 100% be tour favorite Ibanez..I guarantee it..
there’s a famous player who plays one of those, mogwai’s stuart braithwaite plays a 70’s deluxe with a black top!
Adrian Smith from Iron Maiden Also played a deluxe
@@modergav Ace Frehley had one too, as a matter of fact one of his Signature models was a blue sparkle top. But I too have seen one in black sparkle but I don't think that is a factory finish, that is something they had done to it after purchasing it or it was a custom build for the artist.
don’t know about them lot lmao but stuart’s black top is beautiful
What is the weirdest guitar you’ve ever seen?
Scott Bentley check out his headless SG vid
Interesting specs .. 😉
I only wish Trogly would wait to list these until AFTER a video is posted. It would be nice to have a fighting chance for something he shows.
