I understand that this guitar is meant to be a replica of mike ness's specific guitar, so it has a bit of an exception, However I find it very interesting that guitar collectors Will pay a lot of extra money for a brand new guitar that has been artificially aged and worn, but yet when guitar collectors see a true vintage guitar with wear and tear from age they see it as players grade and undesirable and it becomes a lot less valuable, to me its just strange way of thinking,

    • @shawnawesome7770

I think besides the price, the aging is a big no. Instead of aging them they should just sell mint condition with stickers ya know?

    • @Paul_Lenard_Ewing
      @Paul_Lenard_Ewing 2 роки тому +5

Yes a mint condition 50's Gibson is worth 10 time one with even a small scratch or two. Personally I think all this literally damaging a guitar is a fad. In a few years no one will pay a premium for used ones but less as they have no way of knowing whats real damage and what is fake. Add to that and you will soon see a glut of Asian guitars reliced which will kill any cool factor in having one.

I wouldn’t get rid of the 79. They started in 1979 and that number is on quite a few of their releases and merch. Of course the #1 is the most desirable but number #79 is going to be the number two. One of their mottos is since 1979 and may even explain why that one was aged better.
Edit-are you sure they all aren’t #79? As a lifelong social distortion fanboy that wouldn’t be weird for him to do.

Social Distortion has some tastey tunes, and Mike Ness has some decent solo albums, I recall " Cheating at Solitaire"was good. Most bands dont get Better over time, if we are honest we support the aging hero's because we love them for what they did. Social D's " Hard Times & Nursery rhymes" from just a few years ago was the BEST they have ever sounded.

Hi ya Trogly- so cool to see you Demo #79. The same morning you bought it I got that Sweetwater email with the 4 choices and 79 was there.
I was contemplating #79 (graduated HS that year) and #86 cuz #86 had a nice very appealing goldtop look (possibly the most gold of the 4) and it was 8’13” so I liked that weight a bit more.
I also thought if his is a 76 then you add a perfect 10 and it’s an 86. Needless to say when I refreshed the page #79 was gone (now I know where) so I quickly bought #86
Loved your demo and I’m hoping mine is just as killer. I compared the aging and I think 86 has a killer relic job just like your 79

AXSTV had a special on mike mostly and Social Distortion a few years back, the dude was just himself, just a person. He cruses around Cali in a '" 49 Mercury I believe ". He like vintage stuff in his house \ garage. You know, when our belongings were made to last, made in America.

@@Peter-ff1tp Hello Peter, how disappointing to hear that about Mike Ness , BUT I will admit to you my brother a lot of musicians and actors are total liberal pieces of trash that will sell out our country in a heartbeat. ..I don't know him that good only met him at a few concerts. The access TV interview was pretty interesting and he seemed to be so down to earth. I was hoping that he was for real.... I honestly don't know if what you say is true or not but I certainly have no reason to doubt you but I do know for a fact that a lot of musicians and actors are total sell outs, that will sell our country out in a heartbeat. I wonder how do you know so much about him?

      Disappointing to hear regardless.

Presumably then, that's what the piece of tape on the neck pickup volume is for. If the pickups are the same height as on the original guitar, and the neck pickup has higher signal strength, because it's set at the same height as the bridge pickup (both pickups being the same output), then that would tend to suggest Mike knows to set the neck at 9 or whatever, to balance the outputs. Personally, I'd prefer to pack the underside of the bridge pickup with some veneers or washers or something just to raise it up a bit (if there's room). Then they'd balance better without needing to worry about the volume positions. The joys of Signature (Signature) guitars!

I was looking at my Kalamazoo '76 Deluxe and I noticed the serial number is in gold and that some serial number databases point out that my guitar has digits colored gold. Was that common to have the serial numbers in gold or does it demark something special? Only asking because when I look up the serial number, some databases say its a limited edition.

So cool to see a Norlin reissue. On the topic of Norlins can you do a video on how to tell if your Les Paul was made in Kalamazoo or Nashville? Especially during the mid 70’s when both factories were making Les Pauls? Seems to be a murky topic with a lot of misinformation out there and few ways to know for sure. Would be cool to get your perspective on it.

Like a lot of people, I’ve made a bunch of these over the years with the Epiphone ‘56 models. So I’ve studied the original guitar a lot, and the Horsepower sticker just messes with me. MN has made many of these himself over the years with the Horsepower sticker, but on the real deal original one that he first got back on the White Light album, the cigar smoke clearly goes under the bridge.

I love Gibson LP's, but c'mon, the prices for these signature (and average) pieces are just ridiculous!
Even the trumped up prices that the old 1976's are going for, have recently (for some reason...hey like everything else, let's blame covid right?) increased from 2k to 4k-8k. The sad thing is, is that in most of that particular era (71-83) the guitars were just not that great off of the line to play (I know... I was there). They, as always looked great, but most of them needed a lot of modifications to feel and sound right.
That's not to say that I wouldn't own one, as I said I love LP's...it's just that IMO the brand name guitar market pricing is way out of whack for what you get. I know as a collector most are hoping for the price of older brand name guitars to go through the roof.
As for the rest of us working musicians and hobbyist's...well me in particular, until these prices come down , (and not by using cheaper wood like fender and their basswood bodies, or Gibson and their Richlite fretboards etc...) I will be buying Les Paul copies or strat style copies and modifying them to suit my needs...because for the money (in this day and age) these cheaper models coming out of china are fantastic for the price. However, these days I just make my own parts-caster custom guitars.
Even with the finest woods, pups, tuners, nuts, wiring harnesses, paint and steel bridges, I can easily bring a guitar in for my hobbyist /professional needs at under 1k-1.5k. Lastly, IMO this guitar is really great... but... way, way to pricey. Peace
