I was filming from the Pantera with my cell phone..But we jumped the start so i paused it. I thought the race was going to be restarted...No clip from our car can be found...But if you want to hear it! type in Inside Detomaso and it is the second clip i belive!
I know of a Pantera that does 200mph top speed...and the 1/4 mile in the 9s! Not many "new" cars can come close to that.....and he did it for far less money.
Wow, even with a quick start the Pantera gets killed, in it's day the Pantera was a quick and had a top speed of 150, very fast for those days. With a Ford 351 C it was reliable and not too expensive to service, the 351 C produced about 300 hp stock but could easily be modified for more hp-- oh, C = Cleveland-- great to see how technology has advanced
Those stats are for the first production year of 1971. From 1972 till a dozen years later, the factory stock Pantera's Cleveland 351 produced 330 hp and had a top speed of 159 mph.
i perfer classics especially italian cars... idgaf that it lost to the merc its probably way better to drive. for me id take the pantera. another thing... I'm into gt's of the 60's and those cars aren't like modern cars at all. modern super cars are meant to be driven on their limits where as the gt isn't. the gt is best enjoyed when cruising not rushing the drive and enjoying the journey... to me thats what cars should be. and the early mid engined super cars (miura, dino etc...) followed this trait of old world car culture and the early detomasos even the pantera had that mid engined gt attitude until the mid 70's really
Wow, surprising but yes the SLS is extremely powerful and the Pantera is a 5 speed, it's a true classic regardless and in it's day it was well respected. I used to have a few US muscle cars in the 70's, a 427 camaro with 1/4 mile gears that limited top speed to 110 -115, the new SS Camaro is just as fast in the 1/4, bottom line is new cars are usually faster due to technology One vehicle i have never seen here is the old Mercedes gull wing, it was supposed to be extremely fast in it's day
The car is tuned and striped of some weight. I don´t know the HP now or the weight. But my friend who owns it says its a few hundred kg gone. It is a fast car, but the SLS is so much more powerful and is a new car.
i saw a Qvale Mangusta the other day on my way back to Houston from El Paso...the guy just bought it, i wonder if that thing was any good? It wasnt ugly but not pretty...kinda like a Spyker C8.
No hate meant. Both good cars. But.. Looks like that old 351 took you for a bit. Maybe in the 1/4 he'd even win Imagine if he updated that with a 5.0 and gears. In other words modernized it. pendragonshall "update" a Pantera by replacing a canted valve 2.19 inch intake ( Nascar design) Cleveland?? With a 5.0,lol. Are you aware what Cleveland s do when built like they were originally designed? For Nascar high banked ovals.? They would destroy your 5.0 and that amg..
There's a video on youtube of a 351 powered Pantera racing through the gears. It's a before and after video. The after video is of the same car/same driver thrashing his car with a new "5.0 Coyote" motor and it's a lot faster. I love the old Clevelands and am not hating on it. It was good for it's day. But 40 years later engines are lot more efficient. @@jquest43

Coolness factor counts... Panteras are probably the most modded old muscle American cars. I bet there's a ton of them out there that would win.

That pantera was stock. Next time do us a favor, race a twin turbo pantera. Apples to Nuts.

unless that Pantera has coupled some twin turbos, it has no chance against the SLS ...

Old DeTomaso Pantera, look it up, its a european chassi with an american engine, ford one I believe.
Lincoln Mercury dealers sold them in the US, cost was about 10 grand i think, top speed was 150 which was pretty fast then
