Never lose your 'common touch', Steve. I am a film lover and love all the masterpieces but there are many times when only a giant mantis will do.
LOL! Thanks so much for watching! Happy Halloween & Best Wishes: The "Common Denominator".
How right you are!
🐜 Them! 🕷 Tarantula
Oh, that was another great review/recommendation from you . Thank you, Steve! I wish you had a weekly show talking about movies and the stars.
Me too! Thanks so much for watching and have a happt and SAFE Halloween! Steve
Giant insects are always a favorite of mine. Them, Tarantula, Black Scorpion and Beginning Of The End are just ridiculous fun.
The fact that this movie brings you such joy makes me want to see it. I've seen the MST3K version, but not the original version.
Oh, always go to the originals. It's fascinating to see how innovative they could be without the use of computers. Thanks For Watching! Best; Steve
"It's part of something alive! Something incredibly, unbelievably huge!" (do tell)
🤣🤣🤣
Ya gotta' call 'em like you see 'em...or get their number and call 'em as soon as you see 'em! Thanks for watching! Best; Steve
How I remember those old B&W sci fi B movies as a kid growing up in the 60s. Some were just awful, but some are now classics: “THEM” (1954) James Arness, James Whitmore, Edmund Gwenn. And two of the best horror films I have ever seen, and they still give me chills to this day: “ The Haunting” (1963) directed by Robert Wise, starring Julie Harris & Claire Bloom. Also, “Night Of The Demon” (1957) directed by Jacques Tourneur, starring Dana Andrews, Peggy Cummins, Niall MacGinnis. The edited (shorter) version was released in the US as “Curse of the Demon”, so be sure to watch the full film. These are atmospheric horror films par excellence and perfect for a stormy night with the lights out. Thank you Steve for another delightful video! 🏳️🌈
My pleasure! "Them! and "The Haunting" I've done episodes on and "Night Of The Demon" is on my to do list! Happy Halloween and thanks for watching! Steve
@@stevenhayes4063 Thanks Steve. I will look for those in your channel archive. “Trick” forever! ❤️
This is one of the films that shows up at Si-fi conventions! We just loved this one, this and Them!
I love "THEM!" and this! LOL Happy Holidays! Steve
We are so grateful for these Deadly Dozen years of TOQ! 😃 I think meeting Steve Hayes is on my unwritten bucket list. PS: Steve does a good Scream Queen!
Yeah, but don't tell her, she may not know! Thanks you for years of watching and Happy Halloween!
I'm a "Tarantula" type of guy and can't remember watching this, so I pulled out my Universal Sci-Fi Collection to give it a look on Thanksgiving, instead of "Friendly Persuasion" this year; combining the two movies into one would make a damn entertaining film- "Josh, get thee and thy mother back in thy house whilst I convert this deadly mantis into a praying one!"
Or " Anthony, get thee into the barn and I'll join thee for some fun and frolics in yon hayloft, while yon Mantis eat's thy mother."...I'm gonna burn. LOL! Thanks for watching!
@@stevenhayes4063 Well, "Persuasion" does include a pretty decent hunk factor, for sure; if only Pat Boone knew of all the possible connotations involved as he warbled "Thee I Love."
"We've had that trouble in New York"! You are so funny. Happy Anniversary, Team TOQ! Thank you for all your videos - you're a bright spot in this crazy world. We just love you!
I so appreciate your comments and for watching! Thanks a million! Steve
It's hard to believe I used to curse Saturday Night Live and the Midnight Special as a child because they wouldn't finish quick enough for my Creature Feature and these movies to begin.
I'm with you! When they would prempt "Attack Of The Giant Leeches", I nearley picked the station!
12 years! How devonian! Happy anniversary and to the next 12 years!
Why, thank you for watching and have a divine Devonian Holiday Season! OXOXOX Steve
Hey Steve, this film scared me too as a little boy on '60s TV! Love this 1957 shocker! As I rewatch these films I have realized that the music is also a character in these movies warning us of what it to come and as leif motifs according to the characters being shown whether monster or human! Sometimes the music lets us know how a terrified person feels such as the build up just before Scott Carey opens the dollhouse's front door to reveal his pet cat now the size of an elephant. I so love the ingenious way the compositions lent atmosphere, spine-tingling suspense, and weaving itself through every fabric of the story! Great stuff Maynard!
Hans Salter wrote many of the scores for these films, and he really established the atmosphere, I love 'em too! Steve
Dear Steve, You are the best person in the world to watch a film like this with! I'm still recovering from a really heavy cold and wasn't in the mood for anything sensible, so I had a look at this and realised I'd seen it on television - I nearly choked to death at the time. The more hysterical you got, the more hysterical I got; you've cheered me up so much! If there's anybody to have around when people are being devoured by a giant praying mantis - well, if a monster is going to go down on you ... Just please don't watch "The Trollenberg Terror", because I don't want to be answerable for your reeling back and hitting your head on that lampshade. Very best wishes, Alida
Dear Alida; Many is the time that Universal Monsters have comne to my rescue in times of need. There's something refreshing about a monster that waits for the passengers to get off, before devousing the bus driver. No fuss, no muss and most of all, no blood. "The Trollenberg Terror" sounds like my fouth grade teacher, who like me now, could write on the backboard with her hand and erase it at the same time with the excess flab under her arm. Now, that's terror! I reinterrate, I have the exact same ability now....I have it as a special skill on my resume. and am hoping it will eventually get me an agent. Steve
Good and very amusing review, "The Deadly Mantis" is never as neat looking or as terrifying as "The Spider" or "Tarantula." I like when real bugs play themselves. However in THEM they didn't use real ants that that still is probably the best Giant bug movie of the 50s.
I agree. But they are always alot of fun! THanks for watching! Best Wishes and Happy Halloween! Steve
My friend and I used to have whole weekends watching monster movies but I can't remember us watching this one. I just love that you give equal care to great classics, film noir, musicals and cheesy monster movies, the whole range of cinema. Thanks for all the hard work over the years, you and Johnny are a joy and a pleasure as my grandmother used to say.
Well, Bless you and your grandmother! I so appreciate your comments and for noticing the care with which we try to cover the spectrum. Happy Holidays! Steve & Johnny

Why you poet who knows it! Adorable! You won my heart...it's around here somewhere...Happy Hallloween, Mr Hayes! OXOXOX The Other Mr Hayes
🤣😂🤣 that mantis you have in the flower pot……😅 you guys are so funny ..
He happened to be in the area, we offered him a fly and he agreed to make an appearance...then he hate my director.
Yay ! ,,, Monsters!
I'm right with ya! Love 'em!
The only thing missing from this movie is Kenneth Tobey. It seemed like he was in all those 50's giant creature flicks. Great review as always.
A agree. I absolutely had the hots for Kenneth Tobey and his habitual cigarette. A ginger delight if ever there was one!
I loved Praying Mantises as a kid. (They have interesting mating habits -- there's never a second date.) If you ever decide to do another giant critter review, please consider "The Giant Gila Monster." It's kinda campy and there was some skuttlebut that the lead was actually played by a Mexican Beaded Lizard!
Thanks for the recommendation! Tnahnks also for watching! Happy Summer and Best Wishes; Steve
I've never seen it but you made irresistible. I'm going to watch it and have fun. Thank you, Steve and Johnny! Steve, you're hilarious.
Thanks so much! So appreciate your comments and for watching TOQ! Steve & Johnny
I'm PRAYING the MAN will do a video on The Trouble With Angels. 'TIS time.
Oh Yeah! It's got Ros, directed by Ida, what's not to love!?
Hit me with that bratty Freud baby
Well, don't stay on your knees too long, it's on the list. Happy Halloween.
I love this classic! I love William Hopper, especially as Paul Drake, I love "Perry Mason", my parents loved "Peter Gunn", Mancini's theme is a standard, (like "Mr. Lucky" theme, top notch. I'n an avid fan of Mystery Science Theater 3000, and "The Deadly Mantis" is one of my favorites! And you are one of my favorites too!
Well, I thank tyou! I couldn't be in better company than with "The Deadly Mantis"! Happy Summer! Steve
This fly on the wall thanks THE GREAT Steve Hayes for another wonderful, awesome and fun fun fun walk down my Saturday Afternoon TV youth. Thank you Sir. Not, how do I get this smile off my mug??
Hooray! Mission accomplished! I'm so glad that you are as much a fan of these classic sci-fi films as I am. I just LOVE them! I love you for making me smile with your lovely compliment! ...I'll give you an hour to cut that out! LOL! Steve
The recent passing of Bert I Gordon left me pining for giant bugs.
We love the Bert Meister! And so soon after Ricou Browning ( original Creature in "Creature From The Black Lagoon"- water sequences) o nmany pof the people that put together those fantabulous Universal monster hits fo the "50's are leaving the planet! Makes me so sad. Thanks for watching! Steve
I'm hopelessly "Devonian" to you! I'm waiting for the sequel: MANT VS. MANTIS! Aaaaaahhhhhhh!
I'm endearingly devoid of devonian devotion! LOL! Thanks for watching! Steve
Great review. You had me in stitches.
Good! Mission accomplished! Happy Halloween! Steve
Wow there is something about Alix Talton that reminds me of Joan Crawford. Walking in that suit at 2:33- tight, fitted within an inch of its life, bolt upright posture, short armored hair- she could pass for Crawford in Harriet Craig. "Mr. Craig will dine at home, Mrs. Harold." Also in 1950, by the way.
I get that. To me, she's like Eve Arden. The vocal pattern is so similar. She's a great "Best Friend" type.
I had to laugh when I saw that some DVDs had "Not suitable for children" on them. It was a favorite of mine as a kid watching "Creature Feature" out of South Bend in the late 60s and early 70s and can't wait to see it again as a copy arrived in the mail today.
Hooray! I hope you liked it! I love Alix Talton, reminds me iff Eve Arden had made a minster movie and I love how the men on the base surround her like Artic wolves. This is one of my favorite of the Universal sci/fi monsters pf the '50's. I hope it lived up tyo your expectations and you enjoyed seeing it again!~ Thanks for watching! Steve
@@STEVEHAYESTOQ It did live up to expectations. So many movies I liked as a kid lost something when I grew up but this one was still fun after all these years.
You and Johnny are always a welcome sight! Haven't seen a new TOQ in a while. I love this movie.
Me too! It's got everything! Cute guys, big bugs...or visa versa and lots of carnage '50's style. Thanks so much for watching! All My Best Wishes; Steve
May you have many, many great years of reviews ahead. Yes, suspension of disbelief is mandatory for giant bug movies. BTW, Steve, your plants are lovely.
Thank you. I think suspebncion of disbelief is essential for giant bug movies and family reunions. LOL! BTW, they aren't my plants, they're Johnny's. I kill plants so fast, they literally jump out the window when they see me coming with the water pitcher. Oh, well.... Happy Halloween! Steve
@@stevenhayes4063 So THAT'S the trick for family LOL
Titled Greeting Removing!
Gosh. So many giant insects plagued the world throughout the 1950s; how did we manage to survive?
Thanks for reviewing a Creature Features favorite of mine - - as Detroit's favorite horror movie host, Sir Graves Ghastly, used to say, "Happy Halloween, and... Happy Haunting! Nyah-ha-ha-ha-haaaaa!"
Seems like every city had their versions of Sir Graves. In syracuse it was Dr. Enic Whitty and baron Damone. LOved'em both and loved the movies! Thanks for watching! Best; Steve
My favorite thing in this movie is the roar of The Mantis, It becamed a common used Roar in various media.
My mother used it constantly...we ran. Happy Holidays Steve
Like the Wilhelm Scream...
OMIGOD, Steve, I'm howling. One'a yah best in AWHILE. It's just...Devonian......!....
Decidedly, distractingly, decadently, Devonan, Darling! OXOX Miss You! Happy Halloween, Honey!
One of my favorites! And Tarantula too.
"All This, and Tarantula Too"...LOL! That would have been the tilte if Bette Davis had made one of these at Universal in the '50's..Best; Steve
I don't know why I keep missing these, I have the notifcations on.
Me neither. I hope you got that clared up and that you are with us again. Happy New Year! OXOX Steve

I've been waiting for your annual Halloween treat and there's always room for 50s monster movies. Loved your dramatizations. The closed captioning was on for some reason and made Nathan Juran first into "Nathan Urine" and later into "Nathan Yearns". That was a scream in itself.

@@stevenhayes4063 well in a weird sort of way..it is, they usually start nibbling on its mates head ...so one may want to reconsider the nuptials before!! lol lol
Alex is SO like Eve Arden, voice 'an all. Love the way all these actresses some time or other in their career have that great line said to some man - PAUSE then - 'What are you TALKING about?'
Or '"Are you SURE you're feeling alright?" Alex was great in this and I loved her scream. Right after this, she got to do a Perry Mason, probably because of Hopper. She got to play the murderess and her exit line is fabulous. Done very matter of factly in that Ardenesque manner, something to the effect of; " Nothing against you, Honey. But I had to." Deadly Mantis" is one of my favorites since childhood. I plan on doing more from the 50's Universal monsters series. Perhaps: "Monster On The Campus". Glad you like Alex as much as I do. She also has a nice role and scene with Boagrt in ; " In A Lonely Place". Ahhhhhh, Glioria Grahame...another obession. I do seem to have alot of 'em! LOl! Steve
@@STEVEHAYESTOQ You are not alone in your obsession with Gloria Grahame. I may be committed over mine. She is s-o-o droll in a different way from say Eve Arden but something petulant in her make-up makes her erotic and maddening. Not one of her bigger parts but I liked her in 'The Man Who Never Was.' And her film noirs?..... Gloria can manipulate, deceive and shoot me any time if I run in to her here reincarnated or in the after-life. Great to see you do more monsters Steve. As many many others here commenting endorse - you make turning on the internet something to look forward to in your reviews. You're the best. It's the way you love the magic of films. Fantastic cheesy movie. I like my sci-fi from the 50's and set in either the desert or at the north pole.
I like 'em like my men, hot n' cold, besides, the change of climate will always do a monster good! LOL! Thanks for watching! Steve
