      @@totallypony9550 Right?!🤣🤣 However, the amount of legal red tape and permits you have to get to be allowed to do a green burial is even more than a regular burial! At least in CT where I am a mortician. The laws vary state to state, but either way there would be DEFINITE records of who was buried where a la green burial. OMG you can't even get buried wherever you want either! No state parks, those are OUT of the question and I know a lot of serial killers love to bury their victims in state parks. 🤣🤣 I'm thinking about this way too much!!

      stewieismyhomeboy. You can have a green funeral. They wrap the body in cloth & it is put in a wicker basket that bio degrades.
      Eighter family or friends could dig the grave or for a little higher cost the company can burry the body in a nice park type setting.
      I think it's about 2 or $3,000. to be buried this way but the company will tell you how much.
      For those who want a free burial their body can be donated to science or to where police study what happens, how long it takes a body to decompose which helps them to figure out crimes.

    I’m a person who has always been uncomfortable with death. Honestly it just scares me. I have recently stumbled upon these videos and I have become fascinated with facts of death and slightly less terrified of it. I think what she is doing is great and thoughtful. She probably won’t see my comment, which is fine but thanks for making death less scary.

    • @idalarsen2540
      @idalarsen2540 3 роки тому +2

      @Nombre Apellido For real, same here. I'm in no way at all scared of being dead, considering I in fact have been dead before. I don't remember anything, just complete nothingness. Not that I remember the nothingness, I mean.. dead is dead, so.. yeah. I'm an atheist as well, so it's not like I expect death to be anything else but.. dead, lol.
      What really scares me, is the thought of dying a slow, painful death. I don't want to feel myself dying, gosh no. When I go, I wanna go fast and peacefully. Like I did the first time I said goodbye to earth. I was literally perfectly fine, until I suddenly woke up at the hospital, alive again, in agony. Gosh, that was so disorienting and painful. Several of my ribs on both side were broken, I could barely breathe and completely panicked. Apparantly, I only briefly woke up at the ICU, like just a few seconds before they sedated me heavily, yet those very few seconds felt like many minutes. It truly was terrible. I was in complete shock and didn't understand anything at all. I obvs didn't know yet that I had actually literally died, needing serious interventions to be revived, and I couldn't remember anything at all of what had happened, where I last was alive and concious, who I was, literally nothing, which was scary af. Not knowing anything and losing complete control is terrifying, as is easy to imagine. Good grief, I hope I never have to experience that yet again. Almost just as much as I don't want a slow and/or painful death. That scares the hell outta me.
      Being dead, tho? Cool. No problem.

    • @idalarsen2540
      @idalarsen2540 3 роки тому +1

      @Nombre Apellido Well, my life's been interesting, or at least definitely.. untraditional/out of the ordinary, I must admit. That's for sure! 😅😅
      Absolutely agree. It's impossible to avoid as you say, which I think is good.. I can only imagine life would become quite boring and/or dreadful if we were immortal. Since we're mortals and death is yet another fact of life like you said, here's to hoping it'll be as gentle as possible. One can only hope for the best, while living life the best way we can until our time is done. Can't really do much more than that anyways, I guess.

    That's great that you were able to not be scammed! My husband and I were scammed out of $1k years ago. We lived in PA and were looking for a home to rent in FL. We found a listing and called. They were asking 1k a month for a small studio which was a good deal but not uncommon. They said that we could send money via credit card, money order, etc. We asked if we could send a friend (who lived in FL) see it. Here's where it gets odd. They said yes. They would put the key under the front mat. Our friend went and looked at it. It seemed great. We paid. They never got back to us. We called the neighbors (thanks to a simple Google search, we were able to find the phone number of the neighbors) and they said it was empty.
    We called the local police and reported it. They said the people renting it probably got kicked out, made copies of the key and scammed several people out of 1k. We were pretty bummed.

    I had a "client" pre-order half a dozen individual mummified fairies (one of the sculpted projects that first brought about my awareness that I could sculpt, and started as a joke birthday gift to my sister...who is as morbid and fascinated by the macabre as I am;). It took me 8 months to finish them all - maintaining contact with the "buyer" the entire time. I spoke with this person regularly and, by the time I'd completed the projects, I actually considered this person an 'internet friend'. Anyway, the total cost of these items, including shipping, would have been nearly a thousand dollars. So once completed, I started trying to figure out with the "buyer" how we would ship the items, as they are made from polymer clay, thin metal wire and feathers, all layered upon small, plastic Halloween decoration skeleton armatures. These are delicate, one-of-a-kind pieces of art, and I was thrilled to have an order that expensive (highest order I'd ever filled at that point). Once I received the PayPal information from the scammer, I sat back and waited for her to transfer the money from her PayPal to mine. I actually planned a weekend trip to the Axe Murder House in Vilisca, Iowa, with my hubby and teenaged sons, to celebrate my first really significant sale as a professional sculptor. Turns out the "buyer" would deposit money into your PayPal account, wait to receive the items, and then immediately contest the transaction, citing that they'd never gotten the items. PayPal would refund the money, and the scammer would then have the art, AND the refund, thereby getting your artwork for free, and leaving you with nothing, while they sold the victim's artwork as their own. They jumped the gun with me, though, and contested the items BEFORE they received them, so when the shipment was turned away at customs for containing suspected biological material (the customs agents apparently peaked inside and either the feathers, or the clay formed to resemble dessicated, mummified skin, convinced them to refuse the boxes and send them back to me). I never heard from the buyer again, and all of the contact methods we're suddenly defunct once the refund request to Paypal had been made. I only found out it was a relatively common scam after talking to other artists who'd been through similar experiences while selling online and shipping their work internationally. SO...they didn't get my fairies. It took me about 3 months to sell them all, individually, and now I don't ship anything until the money has been transferred, removed from PayPal by me, and safely deposited into my own bank here in the Midwest. Scammers suck, but I'm glad you didn't suffer any economic losses from the idiot trying to scam you!

    Here's a great funeral director revenge story. My late father was a meter reader for a Canadian city electric utility. The mother of one of the other meter readers was conned and scammed by an unscrupulous funeral home and she ended up signing a contract and spending thousands more than she could afford. So, for the meter readers, it was payback time. Many business had what were called Demand Meters which were set back to zero after each reading. So, each time the meter was read, the meter reader would simply add 15-20% to his reading device. This went on for years. That bastard at the funeral home ended up paying more than five times the total cost of the original funeral. Man, I love it when the good guys win!! p.s. The meter readers and other utility employees took up a collection and the lady was totally reimbursed.

    Very wise doing your homework! Truthfully I had a run in with a scammer called Bruce when inworke as an international shipping manager for a freight forwarder (think tavel agent for cargo). My Bruce Savage (I kid not) wanted to ship several 40 freight container filled with used tires to a "revolutionary" new plant in central Sudan where said tire would be turned into cheap energy for the poor. Ok skipping to the end, we checked with the Sudanese consolet....Seems they had several dozen containers of used tires sitting in there country from our scammer. We ended our relationship with Bruce when we informed him we did not have the proper license to ship his tires.....But have him the number of a shipper who could......The FBI who we called on this boy.

    Anything anyone can do to make life difficult for scammers is good! You are saving others from being scammed by them...
    I know people who have been scammed-sadly my mom fell for one of those "microsoft" scams in which they gain remote access to your computer and then can install viruses and keystroke loggers, etc. We had to wipe her computer and reinstall windows.
    My father in law "kinda" fell for the "IRS scam", in which they contact you saying you owe the IRS money and there is a warrant for your arrest and you need to pay them asap. Well, he couldnt afford to pay what they were asking, so he got dressed nicely and went to the police station to surrender himself-where they told him it was a scam.
    I have had many people attempt to scam me, but havent actually been scammed as far as I know.

One of the hallmarks of these scams is that they seem to ask for multiples of one item. In our case they offered multiples of a single silicone primer in every size we had available. Here it is obviously multiples of the seagrass casket.

After as many years as I've been doing my job, they're easy to spot, but it never ceases to sicken me. I swear, I processed at least ten calls a DAY from scam artists with TTY phones doing this EXACT thing to small businesses. Often it was catering companies or florists, but we got funeral homes too sometimes, and the story was always the same thing! Due to laws regarding non-interference in phone calls, I wasn't allowed to warn the businesses that they were being scammed without being fired, but eventually I realized that I could get away with talking like an 80's gameshow host and most people quickly realized they were being dicked around. Still, I have seen more people fall for this scam than I'd like to admit and there was nothing I could legally do about it. I am SO glad yall figured it out beforehand, good job doing your homework!

      Been living here for 28 years and I've never met anyone named Bruce. :D

    • @JenniferWolffJennyWeb
      @JenniferWolffJennyWeb 7 років тому +4

      Well, as an American it would be a combination of first name and surname that strikes me as familiar in my own culture, with the understanding that my culture isn't the default for the rest of the world and a common name here like, "John Smith," is less common in other parts of the world. Admittedly there are other English-speaking countries that probably have similar naming conventions to America, so I'm only speaking in generalities.
      But more than that, it would also include cases where there is an unusual spelling of a familiar name, a common first name used as a surname, or one or two middle names given (which while not unheard of, is generally not how Americans introduce themselves).
      Of course, often enough the email is written to indicate that the person is American themselves, and while not every American speaks English as a first language, encountering broken English in that context is another red flag.
      In all cases however, I'll base my decision on the actual content of the message rather than a person's name or language skills (we do a lot of international business, after all). Especially concerning are messages that emphasize their desired use of an obscure shipping service, questions about things that are very obvious to someone who has read our website, or requests for products that don't usually sell in high quantities.

    I had a man try to scam me the other day. He left a message on my FIL's phone for ME, and used my maiden name. Both of which are extremely strange because my FIL's number has never been mine in any way and my name has been changed to my married name for more than ten years. He says he is trying to "serve" me, but leaves no case number, docket number, or even company name. He says that if I don't call and PAY him, he will be coming to my home the next day. I googled the number and he is in TX, but I am in TN. I couldn't google a company because he never said one. I knew it was fake when my FIL made me listen to the message, but I want to get to the bottom of it and figure out what scam he is pulling so that I can report it. I can imagine that with him calling and saying that he will be coming to your home the next day if you don't pay him, some older women could pay him out of fear. The entire message had a very dark creepy vibe. I am glad that you didn't get scammed! It's really awful these days how often people are scammed!

We actually ended up notifying the real homeowner that this guy was "renting" his house out for deposit money. He was not happy because we actually went and looked at the house. He was worried other people had been going and snooping around his property because of the listing. He wasn't renting the place out. He actually bought it in order to fix up and flip it, but he still have personal items on the property he didn't want tampered with.

    Great video, Caitlyn!!
    AND thanks for the tip about credit card numbers and Paypal... It's the kind of information you don't "find just everywhere"... and a LOT of us work through paypal.
    Yes, I've been phished... I've never been talked or cheated out of more money than I could reasonably have just given away, so... between smart and lucky (?) I guess...
    Most recently, I was contacted by someone pretending to be "Publisher's Clearing House"... AND they informed me that I had just won a metric buttload of cash (excess of 4 million USD) and a Mercedes Race Car.
    Flag number 1... PCH will NOT EVER call you (winner) on the phone. By the time you've been picked as a winner, there's enough paperwork and snail-mail on you to confirm your identity and location. They ONLY EVER JUST SHOW UP... It's exactly like they show on television, with the PCH van and a large plastic drum or trash-can full of cash... balloons, bikini girls, excitement, and whatever " celebrity face" is public for them at the time. A phone call from PCH to forewarn you of being a winner is FRAUD.
    Flag number 2... The particular names represented from this call. Names like "George Washington Harris" and "Renald Bush Waterston" are NOT even listed in the PCH website in the positions or titles claimed... BUT look at both of those names. Fraudsters OFTEN use "symbolic" names from the culture or history of the person being called. It's a "pop-reference" routine as old as fraud, so beware of anyone with "one of those All American" sounding names on the phone.
    Flag Number 3... The number was NOT blocked this time (it often is, and I generally do NOT even answer blocked or unknown numbers as a rule)... BUT with the number available, I had time (while I BS'ed with the guy) to jot it in a note, and take it to the computer, where I could run a "backtrack" through the WhitePages website... They offer a FREE service of telling you locations from phone numbers, simple as that... AND it came up from Kingston Jamaica... where I could also look up (free) the local Police Department...
    Flag Number 4... When I finally revealed to the caller that I actually knew how PCH worked, and that I knew he was full of **it, he got verbally violent. There was about a five-minute rant ongoing when I finally simply shut-down the call... Threats were made...
    It's important to note, here, that NOT all fraudsters are going to make physical threats. Many will try to defend a "change to company policy" or offer other lies, preferring to double-down on the bet they can "still finesse" the unbeliever... However, the fact that "calling out" this guy's BS for what it was, and explaining that I was calling HIS LOCAL police department to complain, since I was able to get his address (the idiot used a land-line phone)... suggests either an inexperienced or incompetent liar. HOWEVER, cornering any liar to a degree of no escape IS DANGEROUS BUSINESS, and not the kind of thing you're well advised to attempt ESPECIALLY if you've used Whitepages.come to locate an address and phone number NEAR you. Threats are still threats... so don't be stupid.
    Finally, yes... In point of fact, I called and waited on hold for the Kingston PD, where I was put through to a local detective, and I gave him details of the phone number, address, and we discussed the general approach to the particular scheme and scam. I explained that as far as I'd allowed them to pursue, they'd proposed an advance of 3000 USD, which technically constituted felony charges, and that I was about to call the same complaints into PCH, so he would know who and what to expect, if he's still "running the investigation" when they follow up...
    AND that's exactly what I did. Publisher's Clearing House actually has an office devoted to scam investigations. They request notice or complaints about ANY scam related to their name, businesses, and especially the sweepstakes. The lady who took my call was EXTREMELY nice and thorough, keeping a professional tone and pace to her work at the same time, and it was quite painless to get through the reporting process on the phone. She was thankful I'd even called ahead to Kingston's PD, and assured me it was her next step in the investigative process just to get "all the right players on the same page".
    Now, I do NOT have any idea how far it ever got. Since technically there were no damages (I saw right through the scheme from the phone call) I was no use as more than a witness. They would need a "victim", rather... someone who was talked out of a couple thousand dollars, to make a "real" case. I never heard back about it, BUT I'm honestly glad for that. Beyond any hope that there was justice served (or revenge?) I simply quietly hope there was "enough heat" over the matter that these people quit that business and got smarter. It's simply got to be easier over the long haul to make money legitimately... BUT whatever. If it serves as nothing more than a footnote in someone's binder not to get screwed, it's a net positive result.
    For the record, YES, I can honestly say this scam was dealt with approximately right. There's no need to follow up with some kind of vindictive activity or to antagonize the scammers further. Just getting their credentials to authorities who can shut the operation down, avoids further damages than absolutely necessary. As much fun as it can be to counter-act a scammer and cause them harm, it's also treacherous business and at least occasionally notably illegal... even if it's not worth their efforts to report you. ;o)

    Hi, I'm not from the US but I was wondering if at some point you would do a video about the law that force people to have funerals for aborted babies in Texas ? I'm not sure if that's entirely relevant but I would definitely love to hear your opinion on this. Anyways, great video as always !

      That's insane. I understand the religious reasons, but our country is supposed to be UNBIASED to any religion. And to think of how horrific that could be to the person who aborts. If you're severely traumatized from a rape and abort a baby, I think having a funeral for the fetus would break a person in a unstable mental state.

      Violet Mortem maybe because this country was founded with Christianity as a background; those morals are still there. As for the ones raped, that's a tough call/ different story but most abortions happen out of plain irresponsibility and not rape.

    A soap maker I watch on UA-cam had a similar business scammer contact her. Also from Denmark.

      Perhaps the soap maker planned on making 5 extra large bars of soap and needed "trendy" packaging. Huh?

    HA! I had the exact same thing happen to me years ago when I owned a natural cosmetics company. I did the same thing; google mapped the address in Denmark, it too was some random building under construction and the person emailing me wanted me to use their shipping company (some freighter company...), when he kept insisting I use his company which I couldn't find much info on, I knew it was a scam

    I've definitely heard a similar story, I just cannot remember from where. Good on you guys for reporting it to the bank, that's probably the easiest way to shut it down (at least temporarily). Hopefully it also led to an arrest.

    As someone who grew up around the funeral and mortician business, and also has been scammed a few times, I say yes, you totally did the right thing!
