    SCI-FI MOVIE REVIEW: In the role that made her a star, Sigourney Weaver finds herself fighting a ferocious extra-terrestrial in Ridley Scott's sci-fi/ horror classic "Alien" (1979). With a supporting cast that includes Tom Skerritt, Veronica Cartwright, Ian Holm, Yaphet Kotto, Harry Dean Stanton and John Hurt in one of the the most memorable moments since the shower scene in "Psycho", it's a mesmerizing Halloween treat you won't want to miss! I saw this film in the theatre without knowing what I was getting into, and I thought I was going to have a heart attack. Other audience members were laughing at my extreme discomfiture during it -- I was jumping out of my seat, screaming "OH MY GOD!" among other more serious epithets. A few years later I watched it at home on my VCR, believing it would be a different experience, since I knew what to expect. Wrong. I reacted almost the same way as I did in the cinema, except now I was running wildly around my living room. It's an amazing movie, yet one I will never revisit. Suffice it to say, I never saw any of the sequels.

My roommate and I wound up sleeping on the two couches in the living room, rather that separate bedrooms. What's really funny is that I called a friend the next day and took him to see it. My two favourite horror films have got to be The Innocents, (Deborah Kerr's favourite film of her body of work!), and Robert Wise's The Haunting. Those two movies have stayed with me like crazy. There was a movie that came out in 2016 called The Invitation (it's on Netflix) that I really loved! Simple, but effective. More atmosphere and "what is going on?" than gore (I hate unnecessary gore) - I'd highly recommend it. Love Alien - I have a friend whose favourite movie is Alien, and she's become good friends with Sigourney Weaver!

    Steve---I had an interesting experience when I saw "Alien" on the first day at the Chicago Theater in Chicago. The crew is starting to get picked off, one by one when I heard a comment one row back. It was a young African-American guy talking to his girlfriend: "Man, that alien has had nothing but white meat. He's gonna get some dark meat soon, you watch." Sure enough, Yaphet Kotto was next.We turned to each other and high-fived!

    I had never seen or heard of Sigourney Weaver until I saw this film when it was first shown, and it was a truly memorable and intelligent performance. In fact all the crew were perfectly cast. I was terrified the moment I saw the vast set of the planet on which the explorers landed, silently screaming at them to get back to the ship - and that was before anything had happened! This was quite simply an absolutely terrifying film, and I agree with the view expressed that there should have been no sequels. THANK YOU. You may fight me on this, but when someone asks me what is my favorite movie all time, this one is it! When it first hit the theatres, I was all of the age of 12. My mother had taken me to see this thinking it was an "ET" type of movie (a few years before that one came out). I was scared shitless. Watching the entire movie through my fingers, yet at the same time loving every minute of it.
    I've own every single re-release of this movie in every format and still always delight in finding something new and at least watch it a couple times a year and it never gets old. Ripley was a pioneer in film, one of the first women action heroes in film NOT to be portrayed as weakling female depending on a man to save her. Ground breaking.
    Also, like you pretty much referenced in the review...I feel Ridley was almost like Hitchcock with this movie in that it was pretty much all based on suspense. You never really get a full look at the alien until almost the end of the movie. For me, it was a hellva lot scarier than if we saw it full on. The "monster under the bed" so to speak, that we're too frightened to look under for. Where would it pop out from, from what corner?
    Loved the sequel Aliens, but that was much more action than actual horror/thriller/suspense and therefore the first one will always be my favorite. Thanks again for another awesome review ❤❤.

    • @STEVEHAYESTOQ
      @STEVEHAYESTOQ  Рік тому +1

      Fight you? On the contrary, I don't lame you a bit. I agree with absolutely everything you said. It is the one of the GREATEST Monster/ suspense movies ever and all because of the suspense. Also, the fact that not everyone were familiar with the actors, so it made it twice as real and it broke all the rules up until then, as you pinted out so astutely, musch Hitchcock , especially in 'Psycho", where he killed Janet leigh after you've been following her story in the first half hour. Ridley kills off The Cpatain, who would be the traditional hero, so you donn't really know who's story to follow. Because Ripley's character, is initially annoying and goes by the book, you are reluctant to follow her, because in the old sci-fi, that type of character get's killed relatively early, but here you have no choice, because she's the only one who seems to have a clear head and of course by the end you ,love her.I love this move and HAVE to watch it. I even like the third one, which is available with Fincher's original before they made him reshoot it. With any sequel it's all about re- invention and I thought with the first three, they did a great job,because they didn't take awys anything from the others. The first one is the best "where is he in the house?" movie, The second one may be my favortye actio adventure film ever and the third one is a allegorical, shot during the height of the AIDS crisis and has a spiritual context that I like. Hooray for "ALIEN"! Steve

    If you read the crew data info in ALIENS during Ripley's inquiry. Veronica Cartright's character, LAMBERT is listed as being born male and transitioned to female in her late teens prior to her employment with WAYLAN-YUTONI CORP.
    I'm curious if that was mentioned in the first movie but is in the second..
