Hi, Lizzy! Not only have I, as a Han Chinese, never witnessed a Muslim wedding, but even the weddings of Han Chinese people vary from city to city and village to village. Even within a distance of fifty kilometers, weddings can differ significantly, let alone hundreds or thousands of kilometers apart. In such cases, people may not even understand each other's dialects, let alone wedding customs. If someone invites you to attend a wedding, you must go. I guarantee that each time will be a unique experience for you.Furthermore, what you attended was not a blind date but a formal betrothal ceremony, where both sets of parents were involved. It is a highly traditional practice. Nowadays, in the Han Chinese culture, blind dates typically involve direct meetings between the boy and the girl, with no parental involvement. It is interesting to observe that the Muslim community still maintains this traditional betrothal ceremony.

The diversity of cuisines, traditional festivals, customs, dialects , landscape, public parks, nature reserves and conservation as well as the safety , comfort, scale, scope and speed infrastructure development, housing, healthcare facilities and public transport are impressive. Thank you for sharing your experiences in China.

you have open minded and really respect the local tradition culture! I can image how shock you feel when experiencing the life in village. Blind date is very old traditional way for Chinese. It still exits in some villages but very rare in towns, cities already. Sharing food is one of the most important part of Chinese reunion. Chinese New year is to celebrate with family with joy and give best wishes to each other for new year! Enjoy your days! Happy loong year!

I came from southern part of China (many years ago), the "go between" person was a common part of the process for " Blind date", some of them are doing it as a job or occupation, they arrange the meeting between the two families, they usually carry many photo of the available girls for preselection and the male candidate pick out what is most interesting to him first.

One take away from your video is commonality as Chinese even though we are from different regions and even ethnic group, they do the the same things like fighting to get to the Bride and have to bride with red envolops like we do in Hong Kong and Macau which are mostly from Cantong region! We all do have similar traditions for different celebrations with some variants!
When a foreigner "expert" proclaim they "know" China after a few years in China, making statements like we are lots of different group forced together with authoritarian government, blah blah blah, I just shake my head and say live yhere 50 years before you think you know! Coz all these traditions developed over hundreds if not a thousand years!

Lizzy, you are so open-minded to Chinese culture, and I, too, am learning from you via your videos. Thanks. I have my own opinions on this matter. In any other muslim countries, the muslim practices will take precedent over the local regional cultures in any important family events. However, Chinese cultures with 5000 years of history are so overwhelming present that it takes precedent over the muslim religious practices in any important family events like the wedding you just attended. The Islamic religion has only been only around less than 2000 years. I am not trying to say that the islamic practices are discarded in the wedding you have just attended. What I am saying is that the chinese practices you have observed will also be present in the fabric of all chinese wedding ceremonies and practices in all over China; but not the muslim practices if the family is not muslim. Western foreigners failed to understand that China is a civilization, not a state. Therefore, any religions or ideologies that come into China will eventually have Chinese characteristics.

A Muslim new year tradition is quite different from that of a traditional Han new year (traditional Chinese new year). For Muslims, they are a monotheistic belief but for traditonal Chinese, we have so many gods and we do a lot of thanksgiving to different gods at the end of a year and it makes the whole practices of new year celebration quite different.

Chinese are inclusive, including religions and gods. There are probably more imported religions in China than home-grown ones. On the other hand, there are more home-grown gods than imported ones. Quite a number of the so called Chinese "gods" are actually deceased heroes. For example, the Red-faced Guan Di, worshipped by soldiers, policemen, firemen ... etc was a army general in the Three Kingdoms era (220 - 280 AD). He was a human being, but after he passed away he became a god because he was such a hero when alive.

The customs of Muslims (also known as Hui ethnic group in China) are different from those of Han Chinese, but there are some similarities. The Spring Festival has been the largest and most important festival of the Han ethnic group since ancient times.

blind date is just so wrong, it is more of the West, if you have a date, and if you are not blind, it is not blind date, in ancient China, they do have blind marriage, you married to some one you may not know well. However blind date is/are not the same as blind marriage.

The customs in different parts of China are not the same, and even in the same place, there are differences between two regions, but there are always similarities, and the essence is the same? Just like a tree with only one trunk, but various branches and leaves are complex and can freely play, but they cannot deviate from the main line. This is the soul of China, the culture that has been passed down from ancient times.
