I don't think it's necessarily that a concept album is what elevates a record. It's six feet under did one it would still be dog shit. I do enjoy the detail and story telling that can happen in a heavily themed record but it's awesome because the band are brilliant
[1:22] Shit, man, I just realized Cattle Decapitation has so much mixed genres that my brain is smoking. As for the genre drawer, I shouldn't like it. But I liked "Death Atlas" and I like the new album even more. Without a doubt, this is one of the albums of the year for me.
I bought this vinyl 2lps thinking it played like a regular 12" record would, at 33rpm. Sounded ok enough but it just seems a little slower for cattle Decapitation. Come to find out, according to discogs, it's 45rpm. I've never heard of big records being played at this higher speed but it sounds great, like it was supposed to I guess 😅 Anyone else run into this?
Terrasite is an amazing album. Just when i didn't think cattle could get any better they did. Although i Still don't understand why people are so upset with the clean vocals. Its just another evolution if the band. I mean shit if whitechapel can do cattle can too.
Honestly my favorite of their material I just love it so fuckin much man. The storm upstairs, the insignificants, dead end residents, just another body. Everything is just stellar.
@@evilone1079 Its funny to think about like we went from the damn harvest floor to fucking monolith of inhumanity and from then on they are becoming the next cannibal corpse of extreme music where they never really make a bad album ever it incredible.
Fav albums of 2023 1. Cattle decap: terrasite 2. To the grave: directors cuts 3. Periphery: djent is not a genre 5. Acacia strain: step into the light Just the current list
Terrasite is sick. I feel like my friend and I were the only people who were slightly disappointed by Death Atlas, I like a lot of things about the album, but it felt like it was missing something that the previous 3 albums had. Terrasite fixes most of my complaints about Death Atlas, most notably there are no interludes. Death Atlas felt too predictable. Also the singing mutant vocals felt overused and forced, but it strikes a nice balance on Terrasite. I find the mutant vocals are cool, but I prefer when they're used more sparingly as it feels more impactful. There are a couple of tracks with actual singing which is cool because there's more vocal variety. I'd give Death Atlas a 7, but Terrasite a 9. I feel like it improves on Death Atlas in every single way. There are moments that feel even more melancholic and grim than Death Atlas. I've only heard their last five albums, but I'd probably rank them as Anthropocene Extinction > Monolith of Inhumanity > Terrasite > Harvest Floor > Death Atlas
After three listens, Terrasite is easily a highlight of the year so far. Nothing beats The Anthropocene Extinction for me but there are moments, quite a few of them really, in this new album that are among the best they've ever sounded. I think what I loved the most about it is how comfortable they sound doing their thing while still pushing the envelope and finessing their craft, you can tell they've become real masters of their trade.
This album is a 5/5 for me. It takes the best parts of the last three: The brutality and technicality of Monolith, the nihilistic atmosphere of Anthropocene and the progressive melodic approach of Death Atlas. I personally love the second half of the album more than the first as it is more atmospheric and diverse. The finale Just Another Body blew me away. Travis actual doomy clean vocals are just magnificent.
I felt like the record was starting to feel samey at first, but i didnt hate it. After a few listens its definitely grown on me a bit, with the only "meh" song i think being the closer, just lacked the same impact as a Kingdom of Tyrants, Pacific Grim, or Death Atlas had.
5/5 for me, and an album of the year contender. The ending of Just Another Body gave me chills and damn near made me cry. You can tell that Gabe and Trevor were on Travis' mind when he wrote that. And those cleans... my God.
The trouble with this band (and most modern metal in general) is the sterile production. Everything sounds far to clean and polished. Extreme metal needs to have a bit more grit when it comes to production.
From it being so clean production wise, Travis’s stupid tunnel vocals, to the same recycled crap , popy song structures. Nothing new. Cattle decap fizzled out about 10 years ago unfortunately
Between Cattle Decaps "Terrasite" and the soon to be released, The Oceans "Holocene" coming out on May 19th(which funny enough is the day before my birthday.), I gotta say, these two are and are gonna be the albums of the year for me. I heard 4 tracks already from Holocene and I'm already digging the prog metal, but sort of electronic style they got going on. Either way, I'm loving all this!
I'm new to this band, still listening to their discography start to finish, decided to skip the line to listen to this one and wow what a record, really making me excited to get to the big boys of their discography
Didn't know the band until today. I've just seen the video for "A Photic Doom" - consider me floored. Now I prepare myself to listen to the whole record. Wish me luck. Update: Wow, for a sound I don't usually like, I enjoyed the hell out of it. But what baffles me most is how strangely accessible the music is.
A lot of people are complaining about the clean production, which makes me think I'll like it even more. Being a fan of Deathcore and Melodeath more than Tech and especially classic and Brutal death, I like clean production. Definitely will give it a try. Death Atlas is already amazing.
I always have a lot of love and appreciation for this band. Travis' vocals are disgusting and sick yet amazingly projected as well as the outstanding work of the rhythmic and versatile players from the rest of the band. This album brings another separate monster of music and decide to make more great ideas while the intensity brought its chaos that's as unapologetic as possible. Also the lyrics are one of the best things about the band too, like other ones of Napalm Death and Venom Prison in a relevant and well thought of descriptions. Amazing album and of the favourites of the year.
Loved it. Loved the new Acacia Strain just as much if not more. And Chained to the bottom of the ocean is the best album that has come out this year so far imo. HUGE release day Friday was.
I love it. It's got a perfect amount of technicality without overdoing it! I'm absolutely putting it in the collection. An absolute essential deathgrind band and I think it's cool that both Death Atlas and Terrasite talk about the covid issues (Bring back the plague is without a doubt about covid)
It's a great record for sure! Especially from Dead End Residents onward, imo. They really have mastered placing memorable melodic hooks into these brutally fast songs. I still think Monolith is my favourite due to how it feels like it could derail at any moment, but can't deny the band has been focusing more and more on their vision since then. Probably a Top 5 of 2023 contender and we've already been spoiled this year so far
Love this Album and this band!! Brutal, Heavy, Unforgiving, and Suffocating! Definitely one of my favorite albums so far this year! Still Not my favorite Album from these guys.. that title goes to The Anthropocene Extinction... "Plagueborne" and "Manufactured Extinct" are songs that I listen to regularly lol
This album is fantastic, everything I was hoping for. I do have a question, is that Travis singing in the latter half of Just Another Body? I can’t seem to find any guest vocalist reference but that can’t be him
Love cattle decap - saw them at Bloodstock last year and they were amazing ! Waiting on my vinyl cause Amazon have let me down and pushed back the release two weeks 😒
ive always wanted to get into cattle decapitation but theyve never quite connected, do u have any song recommendations to get hooked with them? i enjoy MOI, but i havent connected if yk what i mean
the singles from this album are a great place to start: We Eat Our Young and Scourge Of The Offspring. Kingdom Of Tyrants and Forced Gender Reassignment are two of my favs.
Gotta be honest this one wasn’t for me. I respect everyone who loves it though. I really really enjoyed we eat our young and the world will go on without you, but everything just felt a little samey and safe for some reason, not sure how to explain it. Glad others are enjoying it as much as they are though!
I listened to this new album this morning. It's a Cattle Decap album, alright... and that's great! Pumped to join your Discord server, dude! I just have to work out some things before I can set myself back up on there... but I'll be there!
The misanthropic theme of Cattle gets a bit drawn out and tiresome after awhile, I understand it’s their thing but I think it’s time to try and tackle something else
There isn't a plane of existence where this isn't top 5 on end of year lists. To do so would simply be dishonest. This is an easy 10/5 from me. "Just Another Body," is god-tier.
This album is definitely a contender for aoty for me but there have been so many great releases this year it’s so hard to tell. Regardless this album unsurprisingly did not disappoint for now 4.5/5

100% agree on the clean modern production, missing the rawness and tired of the predictable song structures too.
Yeah, for me the best extreme metal had to have some grit on the production.
