The Prussian General Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben is well renowned for turning the Continental Army into a formidable force and setting the US military standard for a good century or so. I do not like the US a lot tough the anthem is nice. Even more in German. Also, the lyrics he sang are the "official ones" in German, which were written in 1861 when the Civil War exploded by German Americans.
