I've watched almost all of the events used in the making of this video and the insights and information provided on each stage of testing here is amazing. So much additional detail I've never even thought of asking questions about. Absolutely great video. Appreciate the level of detail and effort put into this video(documentary). 10/10

😅😅
Seriously this is like watching the last few years of my life in a qwik review. Been following this work so close with such anticipation. This is such a great documentary
Thank you! We figured this was much needed
I vividly remember watching labpadre in 2018 Christmas.. when this mysterious rocket shaped water silo was knocked over and destroyed by wind to be replaced by pre starhopper... Lol
Everything Zack touches is Golden. ;)
😂Mee Too!
@@CSIStarbase and it was. Finally got to finish watching this. It’s amazing the journey at Boca. Tons missing but then videos can’t be 8 hours long as there’s so much to talk about. Next I would love to see a video of the construction of starbase and launch site. But that episode would be three hours long. Hehe
So much nostalgia. That was great. A great balance of humor and education.
Thanks Mouser!
YESSSS A CSI STARBASE EPISODE
Edit: Great watch, absolutely packed with information on the structural history of Starship. Great job.
What a trip down memory lane, with quite a few blanks filled in.
The B4 flaw was a lot worse than we thought back then.
Well done Jax.
Well done Zack and team CSI.
✨️❤️🙋♀️
@StephanieB67 and @CSIStarbase, you're right about the B4 flaw. It seems that the stringers that go to the structural reinforcement on B2.1 may have been enough to tell SpaceX that B4 can not perform its orbital flight. So, my guess is with B7, they added the stringers all the way down to the bottom of the aft section: possibly to allow B7 to handle more pressure.
I might be wrong but firstly, the smart move would have been to have a successful test tank that simulated either a Starship or Booster or both. Then build the actual Starship and/or Booster. As reliability improves over time, SpaceX would get to the point where they can safely do this simulated test on the actual vehicle instead of the test tank. I still understand why SpaceX would want to rapidly mass produce both the Starships and Boosters, though.
@@a.srijamorn3610 my guess is that spacex chose to get the most data from the widest range of possible issues all at once. Everything from production issues, to testing tanks, ships, and anything else
I know you were hesitant to upload a video over an hour long, but I'm REALLY happy you did. Fantastic video as always! Can't wait for part 2.
It’s risky if you don’t have a decently sized audience. But I decided not to care with this episode cuz we felt like it was an important topic
@@CSIStarbase for sure, I just upload random clips from when I play War Thunder, went well for a little while before the algorithm stopped recommending my videos. Always stuck to clips that were short. The few times I did longer videos, they flopped.
Not only does it come down to audience size, but audience loyalty.
I've always loved longer videos, especially when its informative. So I'm here for your content at any length. Hoping for more long form content in the future.
@@CSIStarbase channel title sounds like one of those clickbaity spacex channels. this is your first video i've seen, but it's excellent
Thanks for taking the time to compile all of this history. A well produced, important and well documented summary of early Starship development. Like CSI Starbase's other productions, this is a time capsule which will be referenced for years, and if Starship succeeds, for generations of future engineers.
Wow! Thank you! Hearing things like that definitely make it work putting in the long hours on these deep dives
CSI Starbase killing it yet again! 🤙
💯
Thanks Jake!
Ready for part 2!! It's wild that I've been following Starbase since Mk. 1 in 2019.
I literally just went to check your channel to see if a new video was up, thanks for the great videos Zack!
Edit: Just finished watching and wow, it's super interesting going back and looking over the structural test campaign that most glossed over. Can't imagine the amount of digging you guys had to do to figure all this out, also really highlights just how complex each vehicle is. Also the jokes do not go unappreciated lol, can't wait for part 2.
Thank you. I removed a few of them from the episode cuz I thought I went overboard with the jokes.
I still get goosebumps when I see how SN15 Landed. I feel like a little kid again watching this.
It's a shame I can't watch and like this a million times, because if I could, I would.
Your work is simply amazing and astonishing.
Thank you!!
Great episode. You mentioned the first Falcon nine made a random rotation. Elon Musk said they didn’t take into account the turbo pump exhaust which exerted some torque that stabilization gyros removed. This is rocket science.
Thanks! We were going to dig deeper into that but the intro was already 10 minutes long lol
Incorrect. Gas generator exhaust wasn't powerful enough to create that rotation. Elon said it's due to the (as they thought) default 0° gimbal position that turned out to not be 0° in practice
See EDA interview
@@alvianchoiriapriliansyah9882 I watched an Elon Musk interview where he said the turbo pump exhaust started the rotation. I did not make this up.
5:07 WHOEVER MADE THAT IS AN ARTIST 🎨 👏 Omg it looks so good I can't wait to see this launch
That was @RyanHansenSpace. Hmm I thought we had a credit in the intro for him but I guess I will need to fix that on future episodes.
@CSI Starbase hey my name is Ryan too! We're great at what we do! Lol 😗😆 I'm a bit biased though
Wow! 4 weeks since last update had me worried! Deep dives are insanely well researched and compiled. You my friend, are a valuable resource for the die hard Starship fans like me. Keep doing what you bro!
Everyone always thinks I died or something in between deep dives. Lol
@@CSIStarbase not really, and when you go missing from the Saturday stream we know when one is getting close! Should have figured out Jax was going to be in this one from his absence on the same day!
@@PetesGuide this is very true lol. No such thing as coincidences!
OMG the production level of these is insane! Keep up the great work
Thank you!
I thought I had found all the good, grown-up stuff on Starship but now I have added this channel to my portfolio. Thanks a lot, it is quality material.
I know your work takes longer to develop due to the quality, knowledge and information on SpaceX that you put in. What you do is special and I connect with your work the best. Thanks for everything that you do and share with us
Thank you! Yes these episodes do take a very long time to put together. The amount of time that goes into it is always well worth it though.
Great episode! All the memories came rushing back. Loads of information told yet still keeping good entertainment, that was amazing!
Absolutely love your content. Not to take away from other content creators who cover rocketry, but since I discovered CSI it's instantly become my favorite. Honestly don't know how you do it - but it's brilliant.
THank you! That means a lot
This is probably my favourite CSI Starbase episode for far, and that’s saying a lot as the bar has been set HIGH.
Each one becomes my favorite as I’m working on them. My all time favorite episode to make is the one with the least views though haha. “Elons big lie” was by far the most fun I have had writing an episode
@@CSIStarbase Very much looking forward to the next one. This episode was cool because even though I’d seen many of its constituent photos and videos in the past, it very much changed my perspective to see them explained so effectively and knit together into a story of overcoming setbacks.
Nothing gets me more excited than seeing a new video from CSI Starbase! ❤
Wow! Thanks Gary!
Zack understands that a solid stance is a prerequisite for a successful Jedi Mind Trick.
You're definitely a savvy at this. You go deep, bro. As someone with autism I can only appreciate this immensely. I love details.
Another Amazing episode as always Zack always informative and exciting keep it up man👌👍
Thanks! Will do!
My new favorite channel to hear about Starship updates, really excellent work! Thank you very much!
Nice job Zack, you and your team have provided an educational and informative video. Quality stuff. Bring on Part2!
Thank you!
What a great episode! I love your style on camera too.
Thank you! The style makes it more enjoyable to produce these
I've been watching the SpaceX progress for a few years. The video explained a lot about what happened with the many ships and boosters and why.
The extra step you take with editing, green screen, 2 hosts, etc is noticed! Good job and I'm looking forward to future vids.
Thank you!! Yes having two narrators was a bit difficult. It was a lot of fun doing it this way though.
I love the all of the small details; those little needle in a haystack, engineering centric ones, that make your content rise above all other channels. Great job CSI Starbase!
This is the breakdown we needed! Well made!
Thank you!! Jax did a great job for his first time!
Awesome video!! Learned a lot about the older test articles. Did not know about that B2.1 hybrid ship and booster tank. Great video!!
I think that’s probably the most unknown test article for sure!
Agreed
Easily, you're my favorite space related UA-camr man. Fantastic!
Can’t get enough of these videos!
You are far by the best at deep dives!
Thank you! Couldn’t have done this one with our help that’s for sure.
This was excellent. So many memories of all these vehicles and test articles came back to me, and so many great insights into what they were used for and how they performed.
The quality of your documentary work is exceptional! Thanks for all you do!
Much appreciated!
The music in this video really ties the room together 🏄
This channel deserves a lot more attention than it gets - excellent work.
Thank you! We are working our way there slowly
Oh loving this !
When does part 2 come out? We need more content!! Amazing job so far, every video has been very informative.
I already know this will be the best video on this subject on UA-cam.
I hope so!!!
Excellent review and a great historical document, 1 for the history books.
Can't wait for Part 2.
Really great information Zack! Very well done!
Much appreciated!
@@CSIStarbase 🤠👍
This video is already underrated.
Lol it might end up being a slow burner that picks up in views as OFT1 gets closer.
Anoda bangah!.. Man I watched this video 3 times already front to back. Such a great recap of how SpaceX made insanely quick design pivots (unheard of in space industry) to get us to this point! Well done mates, well fking done!
"cancel culture is deeply imbedded in here at Starbase" .. ahah YESS.
1:04:41Zack trying to Jedi Mind trick people into subbing lol. Great video Zack and Jax!
It wasn’t as subtle as I intended 😅
A lot of ground was covered in this concise episode. I watched the whole video. Thank You, CSI Starbase.
Took the words right outta my mouth. Totally not upset b4 didn’t launch now. Learned so much and plan a rewatch as there is so much history I’ve overlooked (or forgotten) watching Starbase the last 3 years. Lots of dots connected tonight in many areas! Thanks for this video. Definitive af! Hey, can you do a video on how rocket engines start? Jk!!!
Lmao thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. Definitely got some inspiration on this one from Tim
Excellent video and recap of Strain Gauges.
Once again, excellent & detailed analysis; I can't get enough of these. Unlike almost all other UA-cam videos, these bear watching more than once; you won't likely digest everything the first time through.🙂.
Fantastic details..as always. Very impressive Zack and the CSI team. I'm gonna watch this again
Thanks!! Glad you enjoyed it
Love how you just whip out a light-saber xD
Randomness. It was a birthday gift so I had to use it
It's crazy how this whole program unfolded before our eyes
I love watching Zach he gets in deep on the engineering
Hi Zac, your work of collecting so much info's is GREAT to say it least! I really hope you can continue this way! My personal *thanks* fo all this!
A really well done documentary. Somehow I didn't notice it coming out. Glad I found it.
Loved the review, as has been said, it's like watching my last 3 years UA-cam watching in fast fwd :)
What an amazing video. Thanks for all your hard work in producing this.
Thank you! Happily awaiting your next video and some explanation of what's gone wrong with the Starlink door and the next plans and steps needed to fix that! 🙂
Coming soon!
Thanks for another great video. Such a pleasure for us details people. Keep 'em coming and keep 'em long!
MASSIVE video project undertaking. You are to be congratulated.
This was both a great review of the design evolution and an informing dissection of the weaknesses and fixes that have been identified. Thanks!
Thanks! Thinking about changing the thumbnail to highlight the potential disaster that was avoided
Great video. Please don't forget to mention sections with large payload doors that appeared at some point and were quickly abandoned. I wonder if that was also related to structural issues.
We will be talking about that for sure.
thankyou for posting the link to the "journey to mars" song, I was looking for that forever.
That was a first-rate recap of the Starship program, including some key details that I missed. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This type of content is soooo up my alley!
now this was a nice trip down memory lane :). Seeing an old video doesn't put you in the mindset you had years ago as a chronological narration like this, so cheers for that! Honestly, I don't mind this development "taking so long", we'll treasure these exciting and speculationfriendly times once the rocket is operational. I doubt we'd see experience anything like it in our lifetimes.
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it !
Another phenomenal, well-researched episode!
Hour long CSI starbase? Gotta break out the popcorn
I found you in my feed and gave you a watch and after watching and being educated on things about 'STARSHIP' that no others have ever mentioned, I was hooked and hit the Sub and LIKE. Very impressed I watched till the end and was shocked that an hour had gone by, but very well done CSI Starbase I will be checking in regularly for my SpaceX updates.
This was awesome. I wish you the best Z! We will support you doing this full time!
Thank you!!
Another win. More info than I could fully soak up.
Lol it’s a lot to process
Duuuude! This is The Best Spacex Vid I've Ever Seen! (I've been watching LabPadre, Everyday Astronaut, etc.. Since Day #1) The way you Edit this, is Amazing!!!
Thank you!! That means a lot!
Thankyou jack for this "revision" of history of starship 😂.
Seriously you bought this video at a perfect timing, I am watching starship development form the very start, it just was amazing seeing lots of development since then.
Loved part 1❤️
Please bring Part 2 a little quicker.
Will be waiting.
Thanks. We are working on part two already. It will be out before the first launch. That’s for sure.
@@CSIStarbase Thanks bro❤️🫂
This video shows how important it is to test when building something completely unique, I work as a software engineer and having testing processes allows you to move quickly and with confidence. Incredible investigative work by Zack and the CSI Starbase team.
41:34 Really Zack? 🙈😄 Anyway, I would like to get a drink from that skybar as well. Great work man! Support from Croatia! 😉
Just saw the news about your incoming transition to full time youtube! Excited to see where things go, and happy to give my support! Love your in-depth content!
Wow. Thanks @Orion. That's extremely helpful. I appreciate the support and can't wait to see where the next step in this journey takes me.
Always worth the time to watch. Every time. keep up the great work! 😁
Zack and team, great job as always! Can't wait for part 2!
Coming soon!
Zach you are the man!
Just came across the channel, really really good! Extremely well done for literally all ages and just very well done!!
Nice recap and explanation of past testing.
Great and informative video as always!
Thanks again!
Great test summary! As an engineer I really appreciate your presentation
What an amount of detail in one video, unbelievable. Can’t fathom how much work went into this. And what a wonderful result, it really puts the development of Starship in perspective. It might have felt a bit slow the last year or two, but this overview makes it obvious that SpaceX has had the pedal to the metal this while time. We knew that, but it is another thing to have it presented so clearly. Thank you Zack and team, masterful work!
I am very surprised to learn of the flaw in the B4 generation design. It makes it obvious that B4S20 were indeed destined to fly from the janky GSE setup just to get flight test data and iterate fast, but it also explains why that did not happen and why the time to B7 completion was used to bring GSE up to a more final spec. I guess there was really no in between option. They either launched from a janky setup (not to worrisome if things blow up) or had to build the whole thing up to final spec with all safety precautions. Because anything in between would have been a great loss in case of RUD. All speculation of course, but it makes sense and it makes me appreciate the progress that has been made in the mean time all the more.
Thank you! Yeah this one definitely took a while to put together. We spent 2-3 months gathering all the info for this lol.
And yeah with the Booster 4 stuff, that was quite the event. That was probably a very difficult few weeks for them when they came to that realization and had to make a decision.
Another brilliant production.
I learn a great deal on CSI Starbase - excellent!
😊Absolutely superb. Loved this one. You get better every episode!
Thanks! Part 2 is even better !
the way you manhandled the starship plushie was brutal lol - great content cheers!
Yeah lol. I had a feeling someone would say that.
@@CSIStarbase don't worry, Rogozin probably does much worse things to his lol

Thanks! Should be out sometime this week.
Great explanation of a complex subject!
Wow, I have never seen someone with so much info. Subscribed and liked. keep it up
