@@Lynns0b we saw them, but other than that group fight scene with the armor suites (my personal favorite scene) they didn't do much of anything significant. They had more of an impact in the last two movies
For real? There was no point in having 4 kids from the aisle if they were just gonna ignore three of them? They only focused on Mal, Evie was literally just her cheerleader and Jay and Carlos were not even considered.
Seriously from the little teasers leading to the premiere I literally feel in love with his character. Despite not doing that much Cheyenne was the perfect choice for Hades and he did a good job in the Royal Wedding special. And yes he can play an evil ghost when you need him.
Weirdly, his portrayal of Hades in this movie is very reminiscent of Steve Coogans portrayal of Hades in the movie adaptation of the first Percy Jackson book. Seriously, he feels way more like THAT movies version of Hades than the one from the animated Hercules movie.
Disney has a weird history of shipping Hades and Maleficent. In the movie Hercules they don’t show or mention Persephone most likely due to her myth being really adult depending on the version. So Disneys Hades has no canonical lover. So in the House of Mouse cartoon where Classic Disney characters interact and watch cartoons they would have the villains befriend each other. In the valentines special, they had Hades have a crush on Maleficent and they briefly dated. This is a reference to this.
I honestly love the original hyme to Persephone. It’s the first recollection of the hades end Persephone thing It was all organised by Zeus (who’s awful so idk why they had him in the movie) so it was more of an arranged marriage Persephone wasn’t aware about than a kidnapping. And tbh the Greek for kidnap has taken on some really horrific terms that I don’t think the Greeks saw it as. Stealing the wife is bad. But accepted as the time so it was more like “ah there’s hades. Snatching up his wife” Wile Demeter was pissed off. She was told that hades is the best person for her to marry ruling the entire underworld and being the first born having everything as a birth right The only bad thing he specifically does is the pomegranate bit. And back then it was completely functional their relationship. The most functional in the mythos
Honestly, I LOVED Audrey's villain look and her song. Not to mention her sass levels went up. Also I enjoyed the fact that this movie kept up with the notion, that, hey, ACTIONS/CHOICES HAVE CONSEQUENCES, even if it was done horribly. Like, yeah Aubrey was such a bad villian which I like to joke is because she doesn't know HOW to one for obvious reasons
But did the movie really support the notion that action/choices have consequences when Audrey literally sufferers ZERO consequences for her bad actions/choices?
@@Obi-Wan_Kenobi this is why I believe in the end it was done horribly. Like it started off good but went WAAAAAAYYYY downhill by the movies end. Like both Mal and Ben acknowledged that what Audrey was going through was partially their fault, which was true, but then literally proves Hades's point of, "If one of you tries to destroy the world its ok. If we do it, oh we deserve punishment," which is seriously infuriating. And that's just talking directly about what happened with Audrey. There are more examples of this within just this movie that annoy me
@@Obi-Wan_Kenobi not only that but her redemption at the end of the movie makes zero sense. I feel Uma should have been the main threat of the movie while Audrey worked with Uma and learned how to be a villain from her. There was so much they could have done with this movie but they wanted the big happy ending where everyone dances together at the end.
"There's nothing to lose when you're lonely and friendless" Let's dissect this, she lost her title, her boyfriend of how many years, and all of her friends. But most importantly, her grandmother's love which was clearly conditional. This is Audrey's lowest point, she's a girl rightfully angry, wanting to lash out at the world. And I think that adds and interesting contrast with Mal in the First Movie, who was trying to prove herself to her parents, to meet an expectation. While Audrey had finally snapped, and she was rejecting everything she thought she was entitled too and was expected of her. God she's my favorite villain.
I think she would have been mine if a) she did more WHILE a villain and b) they did more with this concept for the reconciliations instead of speed running it. Like, conceptually it's a very interesting idea to have the perfect example of Auradon Prep swing the other way, and it's a good avenue through which to explore the hypocrisy of locking away the Villains and their kids when anybody can lash out at their lowest moment. But the concept and the song are the ONLY interesting things done with it, it's a real let down
@@pipedream2556 Agreed. Personally I think Audrey going against what she was raised on is kinda like Mal going against what she was raised on and becoming her own person. It seemed to me like she was more comfortable, if that's the right word I"m looking for, and "free" when she was acting as a villain and afterwards. Like she got to finally stop being the "perfect" princess and lash out against everything
Nah they set her up to be so good, she was done dirty by mal and Ben and then she SUCKED the whole movie- she barely did anything and it’s so upsetting cause she had so much potential
For me, Audrey's POTENTIAL was great and her motive was amazing. But she didn't use her means really well and the whole thing she did while she was a villain didn't make sense.
On paper this is a good idea. Problem is I don't think Audrey ever treated anyone genuinely decently other than Ben, so I could not empathize for her for the "friendless" part. I definitely feel bad for her losing her boyfriend since Ben was drugged but he was her boyfriend, not fiance, so it felt weird see her entitlement to Ben or is shocked that Ben proposed to Mal.
Hades and Maleficent I can learn to accept, but how the HELL did they capture Hades on that island? You'd think that sealing away the god of the dead would have catastrophic consequences.
Exactly!! The poor dead, wandering souls that don’t know how to get to the afterlife. Hades isn’t a villain he’s literally the god of death. That’s his literal job!!!
Just wanted to say something here; Hades isn't actually the God of Death, he's the God of THE Dead. The God of Death is Thanatos, and he's the one who primarily guides the souls to the Underworld while Hades is the one who rules and judges the dead and decides their placement in his realm. God of Death = Thanatos God of the Dead = Hades Hope this makes sense. English isn't my primary language lol
@@user.LCW01 it does make sense. though I DID say "God of the dead" but still stand by my claim. especially since Persephone doesnt seem to exist in Disney so there's no one to run the underworld... except maybe Cerberus
@@user.LCW01 That's true, he's still extremely powerful though. Disney really disregarded ALL OF THAT and lowered him into a mere mortal with Tragic Past *tm*
Pros of this movie: -Cheyenne Jackson as Hades -Uma looking amazing -Jane is even more gorgeous than last movie (her big doe eyes get me every time, she's so cute) -Audrey's outfit, attitude, and song -Evie because she's Evie I wish Carlos and Jay had gotten more screentime, as well as the other VKs, the race suits they put them in weren't it, plot read out as more of a fanfic, and most of the songs were just subpar at most. Also, didn't Mal and Audrey kinda reconcile at the end of D1? So they basically retconned her because they were out of ideas? This movie really felt like they weren't targeting their existing audience that has grown up with the movies, but rather a much younger one? It just seems so childish and dumbed down.
To answer your question about Audrey and Mal yes in the wicked world shorts that took place after D1 they kinda became cool and stuff but honestly it was pointless it’s like the short and the movies cancel each other out… Freddie facilier cj hook we’re the newest vks there again in the wicked world shorts this takes place but when d3 happens it’s basically four new vks are coming to auradon yay but cj and Freddie doesn’t exist oh let’s not forget jordan genie daughter and ally Alice daughter who were in the ww shorts too they exist but they aren’t acknowledged basically which brings back to the question they were cool in ww eventually but the movies doesn’t acknowledge it so basically no it was ima play cordial in front of everyone but I still don’t like you type of thing plus Mal and Ben never really apologized or talked to Audrey about what happened so why would she be okay with that even if Ben had a thing for Mal and no longer Audrey every action has a consequence her snapping going evil after the proposal was just that
@@juliusweaver3198 according to the books, both the sets of kids in the ww shorts and the kids in the movies exist. Cj and the dude are siblings, Freddie and the little girl are supposedly, too. But for some reason, I think to focus on a future for a younger audience, they brought in the younger kids. Also, while I agree that Ben and Mal should've apologized for the emotional cheating thing in the first movie, it doesn't change the fact that Ben and Audrey broke up immediately after Ben confessed his (spelled) attraction to Mal, and they'd been long since broken up before he proposed to Mal. She, logically and emotionally, had absolutely no claim on the queen position, because she hasn't been in the gf position for a long while. She was sitting and waiting (even while previously dating Chad), that Ben would suddenly decide he loved her and go back to her. That isn't healthy or sane. She snapped because of the pressure her grandmother put on her, but also the pressure and delusion she put on herself. She was clinging desperately to something that wasn't hers, and it broke her.
As a Descendants fan since the first movie, I absolutely LOATHED this last one. The plot was crappy, the characters (especially Mal) were acting really OOC, and the whole thing felt extremely childish. It felt like things were happening for the sake of them happening, and overall it was just a big mess.
Honestly! The movie was so rushed and the cut out some really good scenes with Jay and Carlos. And the series already felt like the Mal and Evie show and it just really bugs me
I like the descendants franchise, but the third one just didn't do it for me. There were too many songs smashed into this hour and a half movie, and the whole Hades being Mal's dad kind of came out of no where. Ever after high still did it better.
I don't think there will be any more movies considering Cameron's passing. Descendants 3 was actually the first of a few movies he appeared in post-mortem since it had already been filmed.
I saw an article that their making a 4th movie and I didn't know there would be a fifth one but I saw comment that said that their will be two new movies coming up I did wanted a 4th movie but I also fine if they decided to stop because Cameron passed away I thought they were going to stop but nope but I'm ok with this at least as long as they don't replace Carlos.
Personally I think they did well with the animated short story/wedding. They acknowledged that Cameron is no longer with us. And paid him a lovely tribute in my opinion. Do they need to make more movies? I don’t think so.
Another thing, I strongly dislike the whole Mal is Hades daughter thing. Like she already is the daughter of a powerful fairy, you're just overpowering her at this point and that sucks bc it takes light away from the others. Also, as a major Greek mythology lover, I was appalled when I found this out. I'm like, where's Persephone? Why Maleficent? Especially since the original story states that Hades was the most loyal out of the big 3 when it came to spouses and such
Because this is unfortunately the Disney cannon and they ignore a lot about the actual mythology, they went with things that happened in Hades' previous Disney movie appearances
Yeah, it's pretty obvious that Disney was just thought up this plot point out of nowhere to add drama and make Mal even more special. Like she literally never brought up Hades before this, you'd think that'd be a pretty important detail. Mal *always* defined herself as Maleficent's daughter but now the entire plot is dependent on her being Hade's kid? It just doesn't make sense for Mal's character or the lore of this universe and it seems like such a desperate move by Disney to do this.
@@Obi-Wan_Kenobi Actually it was brought up in old media before descendants was a thing. The house of mouse, i think it was called? Hades and the evil queen were flirting and dating
@@IvyArts1023 But a cartoon about goofy shorts and Disney characters interacting has no bearing on the Descendents universe. I mean we accept House of Mouse as relevant or canon then at means in that the actual Mickey Mouse is running around Auradon with Donald and Goofy in tow holding screening for animated shorts.
Rip Cameron Boyce. It's incredibly sad that he died so young, and so soon after the third movie. I adored Jessie growing up, so it greatly effected me. They physically cannot make a 4th movie, without either recasting, or writing Carlos out entirely. If they EVER do so, it'll show just how much they don't give a damn, and are only in it for the money.
Sorry to be that person, but Mal and Uma are actually friends to enemies to friends again. Since the books are cannon to the movies, the books actually give good backstory for the movies, and are little dark.
Idk about y’all but Audrey’s relationship with her grandma seemed a little toxic. I kinda wish they had explored that a bit more along with other things about her. After reading the book Audrey’s Diary, you can tell that Audrey was almost depressed and after the events of D3, she probably has some major PTSD, especially cause of the evil sentient sceptre that basically possessed her. Addressing these things in the movie would’ve rlly rounded out her character, making her a better villain then what we got.
that as well as why her grandmother moreso took on the role of, really, being her only family mentioned in the series & why her mother was never brought in as the contrast to maleficent instead
Yes, indeed. I’m part of the epilepsy community as well and it was a sad day for us as a whole when Cameron died. Epilepsy doesn’t discriminate. SUDEP kills. May he continue to Rest In Peace. He’s truly truly missed oh so much!
Honestly the fact that this movie went so downhill is the biggest disappointment in this series. The music was fine but everything else was just mediocre. And it was frustrating to see them basically rehash the nature vs nurture storyline they had in the first movie. The only part I felt was great was Hades statement before saving Audrey. When the royals mess up it’s a lapse in judgement but when villains mess up they’re locked away. And it’s interesting cause Hades technically wasn’t a bad person. He was a god mostly doing his job and ended up being locked away too. They could have done so much with this idea of “even hero’s can be villains” but it was just swept under the rug. Audrey saying I’m sorry was all they needed to forgive her
The idea of blurring the line between Villain and Hero would have been so good! Like here's this society essentially based off the idea that if you're the kid of a villain then you are automatically gonna be one too, and if you're the kid of the good guy you'll be good as well. It would have been so interesting if they had explored the flaws in the idea of fundamental goodness and badness but instead of rehashing the first movie, switch it and focus on Audrey being a genuinely good villain despite being raised 'good'. Like yeah she had kinda petty reasons but it would have been interesting if she'd been fleshed out and bad deeper reasons for her villainy, and become a good well rounded, smart villain. Maybe even team up with Uma. It would have been an interesting way of exploring the kind of rotten core that has developed in this supposedly good society, and discuss how rich and/or privileged people can get away with a lot. It might have exposed how mixed if a bag Ben and Mal are too that they contributed to this situation with very little remorse. Just exploring that people are shades of grey instead of good or bad would have been so cool.
They honestly owe her an apology Mal Ben and Leah of course Audrey isn’t innocent herself she literally was disgusting to the Vks because who they were related to and where they came from
Now you gotta watch Descendants: A Royal Wedding, that’s the LEGIT final conclusion to the series as a franchise (Although there are rumors they may bring in new VK’s and characters and do a reboot basically). Totally watch Wicked World, I actually enjoyed that series! And also now you gotta talk about the tiny Descendants Under The Sea short which honestly was a much better story than the entirety of D3. 😂 Then I think you’re pretty much done with the entire franchise?
@@imgonnaputsomedirtinureyedabs It truly is, like it’s own separate timeline 😂 I still enjoyed it, but yes I agree it’s like totally its own thing. Same with the books!
@@CreativaArtly It doesn't matter if it had precedent from a random animated show 20 years ago, it doesn't make sense within this universe's story and lore.
Make the joke about Chad,. it's honestly kind of sad, seing he is Cinderella's and Charming's son, like where did he even come from, both of the parents are beautiful cinnamon rolls
I'm so with you about Mal being Hades kid. I'm sorry. Doing that makes Mal a massive Mary Sue. She was already the daughter of a super powerful fae, so why the hell does she have to be a demi goddess on top of that? That makes her overshadow a lot of the other characters in the franchise. Jay and Carlos blend into the background enough as is. For that matter, why is Jay Jafar's bio son when he's pretty much Aladdin?
It'd be an interesting reveal if the jafar we see is actually alladin lying to get into a safe position and jafar is just not on the island because he used a loophole in the law
it would’ve been interesting if Hades was never Mal’s dad and it was just a ploy to lure her in or something. you could even have a plot point with Audrey and Hades working together
Am I the only one now realizing Mal got what her mom wanted from the beginning… get to bens heart and take down the barrier. Even tho it took some unexpected turns 😅
To me Uma was a villain but an understandable one she only did most of this so every villain could be free that's why Uma teamed up with mal in the first place sure she held resentment for mal because of her ego and the fact that they were chosen and betrayed ervy one but I can see it being a friendship. If it wasn't so rush
I have a theory about this movie. I feel like the movie we got was not the one we were supposed to get. I think that they had a story but disney had them write a completely new script on the fly. Like this movie feels unfinished in so many ways.
@@IvyArts1023 they had finished filming prior to Cameron’s passing tho. Cameron died a month before the film was scheduled for a release, there’s no way they were still filming things in July when the film was coming out in August.
As much as I want another Decedents movie, it sadly probably won’t happen, as a little before D3 came out Cameron Boyce (the guy who played Carlos) passed away, and unless they pull off some godlike recasting for a new Carlos, there probably won’t be another movie, as finding a new actor for a deceased cast member is already very difficult, but doing it for a primary character sounds nigh impossible, especially for someone as charming and memorable as Cameron. I guess they could make it animated like the show so that wouldn’t be an issue cuz they’d just need someone who sounds like him, but highly unlikely. So yeah, this is probably the last one unfortunately, at least Carlos was always one of the best parts of these movies, & all thanks to Cameron, R.I.P. man
They already have an animated sequel short of Mal and Ben getting married, and its implied Carlos the character is also dead. He was absent and they all had a little cry on how much they miss him
A 4th movie is coming but they aren’t recasting Carlos. I could be wrong but I think they are killing off his character in some way as a nod to Cameron Boyce having passed away.
@@tori_forte They did Mal and Ben's wedding without him. The Royal Wedding could mean that they are reviving the series due to how popular it is. Disney loves money more than anything.
@@dandereninja4750 But that wasn’t an official non-animated film either. I can’t find any info online about descendants 4 being a thing apart from a few rumours without any credible info
With Uma her character was always about bringing down the barrier and freeing the VKs from their island prison she was never really a villain or a hero she just wanted to succeed in her goal so when Mal told her that she can get what she wants and gave her what she wants she didn’t see the need in being a “villian” anymore. Everything else… yeah I agree
This film really saw the message off found family and bad parents the first two gave....and yeeted it all out the window, along with Mal's character development
would rather have more ever after high. especially with the fact they would have to recast Carlos or write him out to do a sequel. honestly, I would have gender-swapped the villain's kids from the get-go. excluding. i could have been interesting to see how a male raised by the evil queen turned out and how her values changed theirs. hell, it could have been the first gay couple with maleficents son and ben. giving Audrey some actual reason to be suspicious instead of just being Ben belongs to me. i really don't understand why so many people complain about why they "Made Audry evil". she was never a nice character.
Disney had a big hand in why Ever After High ended. While I'm excited to see Monster High returning, I'm not sure that Ever After High will get the same love, especially since Mattel got the Disney dolls contact back
Like theres the Horned Goblin, Jarfar (who is still technically an evil and powerful genie), CHERNABOG!!!( Who IS PRACTICALLY A DEMON!!!!), Ursula, and so many more!! They really just said, wheee, let's destroy the Barrier forever!! Not even thinking about what other kinds of villains are there. Honestly, where was the king's council when the decision was made??? What kind of king doesnt seek the advice of his council? Just to make his girlfriend feel better?
Part of the reason why they won't make another movie and why the animated short wedding movie, or whatever it's called, doesn't have Carlos in it is because the actor for Carlos died too young. So, they didn't want to add anything without him. It's better the way it is. At least the show and the first 2 movies were good
There was a deleted scene where Jay and Carlos was talking about Jay moving into another school like a college or something... They should've left it in...
After the Decedents cartoon, I think you'd like looking into Mysticons. It's inspired by old school dnd, from the magical girl transformations being named after dnd classes, to 'The Hammer of Harmond' and 'Eye of Gygax' being constant phrases used. The show was really good, had an lgbt relationship (subtle but it was there for the fans) and was just all around fun to watch. It falls into a few tropes and pitfalls along the way, but overall was a great show.
I think the reason this had such a rushed ending was because of Cameron Boyce, the person who played Carlos’s death earlier that year. I don’t think they had finished filming yet so they had to cut it short rather than leave him out.
I think a lot of the reason the 3rd movie was so bad was that the actor that played Carlos passed away during or close to end of fliming. So when this movie released the cast was all grieving his loss. They were limited in what they could do for refilming. If they do another movie it would be a completely different cast since most of the main cast don't want to film without their friend who played Carlos. It really is a shame.
I read the first three Isle of the Lost books and personally it made watching the movie more bearable since it gave some backstory to of the villain... I haven't read the forth one though...
same, the first one is my favourite, because it gives the core 4 actual character and backstories, and i really wish their relationships were more apparent in the movies.i don't recall much of the second book, and the third had uma's origins which was also nice. i think the fourth explains how mal finds out about hades being her dad, but i had checked out at that point
@@magicalmonsters2013 yeah, but have you heard of a thing called the mcu? having to watch 20 movies to understand a movie, not great, but makes hella money lmao
The books bring their own issues too though. Hades has a son in the books called Hadie. He's never mentioned by Mal or Hades in the movies or the special that came after.
@@vcxz150 yeah, there is a lot of diverging canon in the universe, like how in the second book, there was a whole adventure that was never mentioned that doesn't work with the canon of the second and third movie, but hey, what can you do
Hades wasn't the main villain, even though the promotions made him out to be, he wasn't even an antagonist in that movie. And Uma really should have gone for wanting to be Queen of the isle and bettering life for her people, she wasn't evil but to just make her another friend is kind if stupid
Honestly I think Eve should’ve been Hades daughter instead of Mal, just to give her more role. Like all the movies focus on Mal, plus her hair is blue could’ve been cool foreseeable twist 🤷🏽♀️
Audrey could have been such a good villain if they had given her more resolve. Her "attacks" are so random and across the board... Some sleep, some turn to stone, changing Mal to an old lady and Ben into a beast like that is a lot of different things to master in a short time. If they focused more on her character and how it really hurt her what Ben and Mal did to her then her motives wouldn't be "just for power/to be queen!". The rest of the movie is alright but if the villain sucks then the rest suffers... I loved the idea of her putting everyone to sleep because it ties into her mothers story and made since but then they have her turning people to stone and it just feels disconnected. They took way too much time with her doing "bad things" but never having her really reflect on any of it. It would have been great if she had some scenes were she laments her actions throughout instead of all her "growth" come at the end... It makes it look like the staff was the real evil not the girl holding it... There were some great songs here still!
Another interesting look at Audrey's character to lead to her actions in the third movie is the short Audrey's Royal Return: A Descendants Short Story where she talks about her feelings regarding everything that happened. It provides a bit more insight that I think really adds to everything
Audrey tuned evil and got off with a slap on the wrist. No imprisonment, no nothing. Hades was right, everyone gets punished for their misdeeds except for the royals
on one hand I see your point. on the other hand, does it fully count as being turned into a villain if you do so because you are under a spell? cause I'm fairly certain Audrey was enchanted by Melifecents staff, Yes she went to steal the Queen's crown but somehow I don't think she would have gone as far down the villain hole if she hadn't been enchanted by the staff.
Audrey as the villain of this movie is my favorite part, honestly. I love the role reversal of the heroes child being the bad guy and vice versa. Plus it's pretty obvious Audrey is simply trying to imitate Descendants 1 Mal (the makeovers, constant use of magic to solve problems, being evil not because she really enjoys it but to try and impress someone she cares about, etc) but doesn't really understand anything about Mal in general (which is fair, since Mal spelled her boyfriend and never faced any actual consequences). But they fumbled the execution _very_ badly; especially with her defeat and subsequent apology (though her 'apology' feels more like a way for them to sweep Ben and Mal's behavior towards her under the rug instead of having Audrey's apology actually mean something, at least to me).
What they did: Audrey is angry oH nO- What they should've done: Peter Pan grew up and now his kid is angry that the lack of magic made Neverland crumble into ruin so them and Harry team up to destroy the royal family :D
One thing I want to say was a nice detail was how Mal's hair turned more and more blue as the movie progressed showing the Hades part in her versus how it was so purple in the first two movies. I thought that was pretty cool and I don't know if anyone else picked that up
Since you’re done with Descendants, I was wondering if you would check out “Julie and The Phantoms”? It’s a rebooted Netflix series that originally aired on Nickelodeon Brazil. Even though it’s aimed for kids, the majority of the fan base are adults. 3 of the actors from Descendants 3 are in it, and it’s directed by Kenny Ortega. I don’t want to talk about the specifics of the show (no spoilers 😊), but it was my favorite “live action” children’s show of 2020, and the writing progressively gets better. You should definitely give it a watch, even if it’s for yourself.
It feels weird when you realize that since Mel is the daughter of Hades that means her and Hercules are cousins. Ariel as well since I believe Poseidon is either a grandfather or uncle.
You should check out the books. I haven't read them in a while, but I remember that they actually bring up some of the issues you talk about, like Ben having a counsel and stuff.
10:42 - While I do agree with your point here (and I kinda highly doubt this is what they did but) I like to think, they were trying to wrap up the movies bc (not only was that most likely the last one but it became definite to be the last) Cameron sadly passed. I think the movie was delayed 2 months after his passing. So who knows maybe some quick reshoots were done. (Probably not)🥲😓
There is a deleted scene (if I remember right) of the directer comes after the credits to say "you didn't thought it was the end, did you?" like the previuse 2. I think they cut it after Cameron's death.
@@lili99941 Damn... I miss that dude. I know I didn't know him personally, but I remember watching an interview with him saying once he was done with Descendants he wanted to move to bigger projects. I was happy for him and to see what he would do, he's a really decent actor. He was... 😥 May he rest in peace.
@@lili99941 that "deleted" scene your referencing is actually a blooper, well more of an extra scene thats not canon, right after that it extends into the cast (the core four) coming on screen with Kenny and going "just kidding! it's over go home!" all joking like and help Kenny (the director) clean up the confetti. (cam actually skirts along the screen with his torso low to the ground kicking up all the confetti as the other three actually try to clean up)
What the descendants triology was like: Descendants 1: driving smoothly. Descendants 2: driving smoothly while sing sweet home Alabama. Descendants 3: skirrrrts off the road into a ditch.
Another thing to check out are the books you learn a lot more about different characters and you meet a lot of different new characters that you don't see in the movies
I believe there was gonna be a lot more descendants movies but after Cameron Boyce passed away I think the cast refused to continue the franchise without him
As far as I know, there isn't another movie in the works. But there was an animated Wedding special that's available on Disney+ and there's stuff on the Descendants UA-cam channel. I actually haven't watched the special yet, so I don't know if that gives any indication of the series continuing. The best part of the series is the music and costumes. Like you can't tell me that you don't enjoy "Queen of Mean". It's the best song in Descendants 3. P.s. Wicked World (the animated show) takes place between the first and second movie. Funnily enough, China Anne McClain voices a character in the series but at some point they replaced her with one of her sisters. I assume that this was so that China could go to filming as Uma for the 2nd movie. Also, there's two music videos relating to the series that I'd be interested in hearing your take on. They are "Genie in a Bottle" (kinda ties into the animated series) and "Stronger" which is kind of a prequel to the 3rd movie. There's also novels that tie into the movies, if you're interested in exploring that.
Yes indeed! He was part of the epilepsy community like myself. We lost a great soul the day Cameron died. He showed that despite the disability, he could thrive. He was a role model to us all. He really and truly was.
Honestly I think this movie was definitely the worst, the fight between Uma and Mal was just anticlimactic and I just felt something was missing and then they just left the movie with a dance. Honestly I wanted more.
I had a big issue with Mal being like "oh we can't open the portal because villains might get out" - your mom got out the first time, right? And you, one of the first kids they brought, had a plan to destroy everything when you came. So why is this suddenly a big thing that motivates you to betray everyone and lock them up?
My biggest issue with this move and something that stuck was when when Audrey apologised and Hades said something about how if is was a villain child, they would get the worst punishment possible compared to mainland kids
17:57 this is the last movie with the main four. I don't know if they are going to make anymore Descendants movies but if they do it definitely wouldn't be with the main cast, Cameron Boyce (Carlos) died back in July of 2019
If you enjoyed this franchise then you should check out Julie and the Phantoms. It has such great songs, so pls check it out. Also if you'd read the books, you'll know that they've graduated.
unfortunately, since the passing of Cameron Boyce (Carlos) the main cast has stated that they don't want another main Descendants movie because it wouldn't be the same without him maybe a side movie/special or a spin off but most likely this is the last movie they're doing
So I, as a 22 y/o woman with a full time job, have not seen this movie. I am DYING to know who copied who; did Descendants 3 copy Jurassic World 2 or did Jurassic World 2 copy Descendants?
I have a theory that in the realm of Kingdom Hearts, that is when Mal was conceived cause they was surely the strongest and closest to each other throughout that whole thing lol
Descendants 1 and 2 for me were really cool honestly, but after the death of Cameron I stopped following it since I really liked Cameron and tbh I had a crush on him// Descendants 3 was a bit of a let down although I remember listening to that Queen of Mean song non stop- It's still great imo Descendants 4.. I haven't even seen it (ofc) but I really hope it's better than the 3rd!
9:45 the issue there wasn't that they didn't know if True Love's Kiss would work. They did. It was that Evie was insecure about how they "Hadn't used The L Word yet" and wasn't sure if what they had WAS true love, and was worried that if she tried and it didn't work that would prove it wasn't.
Royal Wedding cartoon special is the final for this set due to Cameron’s passing. When he passed, the rest of the core four decided to not continue with 4, 5, and 6.
they're making another live action and Uma is in it, I suspect a reveal that she is Mal's half sister, Hades' other kid, but maybe only Ursula knows this. Low key explains how they were able to reignite Hades' ember
Things I liked about the movie: 1. Ben proposing to Mal with a cover of “Did I Mention”, it was cheesy and adorable. 2. The main focus not being Ben and Mal’s relationship. 3. Audrey’s whole situation getting acknowledged. 4. Evie being a girlboss. 5. Carlos and Jane’s relationship. 6. Whatever it was that Harry, Gaston’s kid, and Jay had going on the whole time. 7. Bringing more kids from the Isle to Auradon. 8. Everyone assuming that Uma is the one causing all the damage and completely glossing over Audrey. 9. The details in the set at the beginning where we can see that Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos have been working to make the Isle a little more hospitable, like how Carlos opened up an orphanage. 10. Hades being in the movie. Things that ruined the move for me: 1. Mal being so incredibly OOC she creates an idiot plot. 2. Uma’s rushed redemption arc. 3. All of the adults in charge of Auradon leaving massive decisions that could cause serious damage up to Mal. 4. The lack of explanation for there not being magic in Auradon. 5. Old lady Mal. 6. Most of the songs. 7. The way Audrey and Chad were written. 8. The kid dunking the ember in water for no reason. 9. Some of the worst pacing I’ve ever seen. 10. Hades being Mal’s dad.
I hated the fact that Hades, the king of the freaking underworld got stuck in an island because of the royals. By the movie you can see that the dude wanted to go home, he misses his dog. Who's taking care of everything there while he's imprisoned?
Something I always wondered is how the hell they managed to trap HADES, the God of the Underworld on a tiny island. There are so many things that don’t make sense. First off, he’s a god! An immortal being that can pass through realms! Second, Hades isn’t even a bad guy. What happened to being the most loyal husband. Where is Persephone!? And third! Maleficent and Hades? *Maleficent and Hades!?* What? Sorry for the random rant, but since I always enjoyed Hades, I’m a little (bias) mad here. But hey, at least I got to see him in the movie
Fairy godmother’s wand: top security, barrier, and alarm that notifies HRs Villain Artifacts: yeah just leave them out there nobody’s gonna want to rebel and take any of these other super powerful items anyway
This is what happens when you get a bigger budget; studio gets over involved and ruins what was otherwise a slam dunk of a movie. So many elements of this movie are actually my favorite (the conceptual idea of escaping the slums then returning with your power and influence to first get others out and then reform it as a whole) but they weren't executed with the gravity they deserved.
I don’t think they will do any more movies with this as the main cast considering Cameron Boyce (actor for Carlos) passed away just before the third movie was released, Rest In Peace Cameron Boyce
12:06 I wanna add, I think she actually DIED Cause they needed Hades, the god of the UNDERWORLD And their is actually a myth where it is proven Hades can bring people back to life (For the ones who wanna know the myth, it's the myth of Orpheus)
They could've made the ex girlfriend so interesting if she was mad for the being abandoned by her bf, then it'd be Ben's fault. But noooo, then they'd have to put actual effort in this movie.
The only thing that is after the third movie is the Marriage special, about 20 minutes long and one single from Audrey and Cecila as a Christmas special. They went back to Mal and Ben to conclude it all, and no Carlos, so everyone was sad for like 1 minute. All animated but with the voices from the movies rather than the voices from the short series. And the single was a very blatant cash grab and how they might not get presents at Christmas for being bad.
I'm a fan of Sonic games and music too. 8:44 Excuse me you didn't watched House of Mickey? There was episode where Hades ask Mickey to help him get heart (not literally) of Maleficent. Everybody who's Disney fan knew about Hades x Maleficent some of them dream come true after they watched that part when Mal call Hades a father.
ok so they are planning on making more descendants stuff including movies, but most likely focusing on a different set of villain kids since its just not the same without Carlos (since his actor passed away) and from a teaser that we've seen at the end of the Descendants Royal Wedding short, it's gonna be centered around Wonderland in some form or fashion
The sad thing is that while Descendants 3 is a bad movie, it will most likely be the last due to contract endings and because tragically the actor who played Carlos passed away.
Descendants 1: mommy Issues
Descendants 2: Boyfriend Issues
Descendants 3: daddy Issues
I am really sad that they sidelined Jay, Carlos
I saw more of Jay than Carlos in the 3rd movie. Jay had a decent amount of screen time just to talk to Gaston's son. I can't remember his name.
@@Lynns0b we saw them, but other than that group fight scene with the armor suites (my personal favorite scene) they didn't do much of anything significant. They had more of an impact in the last two movies
@@royalladybug30 Yea. The movie kinda disappointed me.
For real? There was no point in having 4 kids from the aisle if they were just gonna ignore three of them? They only focused on Mal, Evie was literally just her cheerleader and Jay and Carlos were not even considered.
@@aylmao210 Honestly I missed the talking dog.
I will say, for all this movie’s issues, Cheyenne Jackson was clearly having a blast as Hades
He was a million times better than the Hades in Once Upon A Time. He actually talked like Hades, and had some of the charisma!
"Do What You Gotta Do" was so fun. I love Cheyenne as Hades. He looks like he's having the time of his life!
Seriously from the little teasers leading to the premiere I literally feel in love with his character. Despite not doing that much Cheyenne was the perfect choice for Hades and he did a good job in the Royal Wedding special. And yes he can play an evil ghost when you need him.
💯🤣🥰
What Valentines special? Could u pls tell me?
@@imgonnaputsomedirtinureyedabs I remembered it as valentines but I think it might be Hades Halloween
@@jharmond3874 oh ok
I honestly love the original hyme to Persephone.
It’s the first recollection of the hades end Persephone thing
It was all organised by Zeus (who’s awful so idk why they had him in the movie) so it was more of an arranged marriage Persephone wasn’t aware about than a kidnapping.
And tbh the Greek for kidnap has taken on some really horrific terms that I don’t think the Greeks saw it as.
Stealing the wife is bad. But accepted as the time so it was more like “ah there’s hades. Snatching up his wife”
Wile Demeter was pissed off. She was told that hades is the best person for her to marry ruling the entire underworld and being the first born having everything as a birth right
The only bad thing he specifically does is the pomegranate bit.
And back then it was completely functional their relationship. The most functional in the mythos
@@mythos2490 ehh, I’m not sure that totally accurate…
Honestly, I LOVED Audrey's villain look and her song. Not to mention her sass levels went up. Also I enjoyed the fact that this movie kept up with the notion, that, hey, ACTIONS/CHOICES HAVE CONSEQUENCES, even if it was done horribly. Like, yeah Aubrey was such a bad villian which I like to joke is because she doesn't know HOW to one for obvious reasons
Also the next "movie" is the animated Royal Wedding but without Carlos since Cameron Boyce died.
Audrey is the best villain of this series.
"There's nothing to lose when you're lonely and friendless"
Let's dissect this, she lost her title, her boyfriend of how many years, and all of her friends.
God of Death = Thanatos
God of the Dead = Hades
Hope this makes sense. English isn't my primary language lol
@@user.LCW01 Ohhhhhh thank you for clearing that up!
Pros of this movie:
-Cheyenne Jackson as Hades
-Uma looking amazing
-Jane is even more gorgeous than last movie (her big doe eyes get me every time, she's so cute)
-Audrey's outfit, attitude, and song
-Evie because she's Evie
I wish Carlos and Jay had gotten more screentime, as well as the other VKs, the race suits they put them in weren't it, plot read out as more of a fanfic, and most of the songs were just subpar at most.
The only parts I can say I liked about that movie was whenever hades was on screen
Honestly! The movie was so rushed and the cut out some really good scenes with Jay and Carlos. And the series already felt like the Mal and Evie show and it just really bugs me
Honestly the only thing I really enjoyed about the movie was that they legit said Mal had daddy issues XD like wtf
does anyone else get a pang in their heart whenever cameron boyce is on screen?
Yeah
We all miss you cameron
I do
I like the descendants franchise, but the third one just didn't do it for me. There were too many songs smashed into this hour and a half movie, and the whole Hades being Mal's dad kind of came out of no where. Ever after high still did it better.
Apple White confused me.

I don't think there will be any more movies considering Cameron's passing. Descendants 3 was actually the first of a few movies he appeared in post-mortem since it had already been filmed.
Sadly we stuck getting some more....as they made the animated wedding without carlos and they confirmed two more movies are coming to Plus
If they do it will be with a new set of characters.
@@meganwillard4709 but four and five will be with a new cast. The rest of the core four have moved on to other projects since his passing.

@@Obi-Wan_Kenobi I'm not saying it's cannon. That's just where the idea for that relationship originated, and they just kept it for descendants
In the special they imply that Carlos is dead as well, so thankfully they wouldn’t be able to recast him, his legacy will be respected
Sorry to be that person, but Mal and Uma are actually friends to enemies to friends again. Since the books are cannon to the movies, the books actually give good backstory for the movies, and are little dark.
They said this is the last one. They didn't want to make a new one without Carlos and I completely understand
That dude in time was fully able to rule the world
I wouldn't want a descendants 4 without Cameron
The last Decendences movie with Cameron Boyce. R.I.P.! 🪦

@@astridholmhansen actually there is plans for a 4th one.
Audrey saying I’m sorry was all they needed to forgive her
Eh, we have to consider that Hades is based of Disney’s Hades and not the mythology one. Hades in Hercules was definitely a villain.

Jay and Carlos blend into the background enough as is. For that matter, why is Jay Jafar's bio son when he's pretty much Aladdin?

I have a theory about this movie. I feel like the movie we got was not the one we were supposed to get. I think that they had a story but disney had them write a completely new script on the fly. Like this movie feels unfinished in so many ways.

He was absent and they all had a little cry on how much they miss him

would rather have more ever after high. especially with the fact they would have to recast Carlos or write him out to do a sequel. honestly, I would have gender-swapped the villain's kids from the get-go. excluding. i could have been interesting to see how a male raised by the evil queen turned out and how her values changed theirs. hell, it could have been the first gay couple with maleficents son and ben. giving Audrey some actual reason to be suspicious instead of just being Ben belongs to me. i really don't understand why so many people complain about why they "Made Audry evil". she was never a nice character.
I would have done the same thing
The son of the Evil Queen of the son of Maleficent could have been a really cool thing to see play out, like Henry Mills from OUAT.
Disney had a big hand in why Ever After High ended. While I'm excited to see Monster High returning, I'm not sure that Ever After High will get the same love, especially since Mattel got the Disney dolls contact back
they never had intention to recast carlos, they finished the main group’s plot
Oh My God, Mysticons. I loved that show but then it disappeared and no one else knew about it
Mysticons was my shit omg
Replying so I remember to watch this
You can blame Maleficent x Hades on the show House of Mouse. They had an entire episode dedicated to Mickey trying to get those 2 together.
Hades wouldn't leave his Wife Persephone for some Eris wannabe.
@@legoking6165 Disney Hades never got with Persephone
And that's one of the reasons I hate Disney Hades so much.
Honestly that's bad writing on Disney's behalf if they rely on people to view an outside source for another to make sense
@@vcxz150 yeah, there is a lot of diverging canon in the universe, like how in the second book, there was a whole adventure that was never mentioned that doesn't work with the canon of the second and third movie, but hey, what can you do
I might actually try descendants now- but nothing will live up to ever after high
@@Arouraboria Makes sense since the staff was calling her.
What they did: Audrey is angry oH nO-
What they should've done: Peter Pan grew up and now his kid is angry that the lack of magic made Neverland crumble into ruin so them and Harry team up to destroy the royal family :D
That series makes me sad because they STOLE from us the "emo" look the phantoms on the original series had. Soda Stereo looking ghosts nomore :(
I remember! That was actually interresting
ooo yes. I've been meaning to watch that one
It feels weird when you realize that since Mel is the daughter of Hades that means her and Hercules are cousins. Ariel as well since I believe Poseidon is either a grandfather or uncle.
Huh, makes sense
Hades--Zeus--Poseidon

Mal Hercules Triton

Ariel
You should check out the books. I haven't read them in a while, but I remember that they actually bring up some of the issues you talk about, like Ben having a counsel and stuff.
5:29 *Heavy metal part of God of the Dead starts playing*
7:48 You should my air a joke about him being Daring Charming from EverAfter High.
Tbh I was rooting for him and Jay to get together
@@Code_Ax0 agreed, I also liked his role on Jessie and was excited for his future projects.
(cam actually skirts along the screen with his torso low to the ground kicking up all the confetti as the other three actually try to clean up)
You should react to Twisted Wonderland, where all the Disney villains are anime boys. I feel like it'd make a fun video lol
They are not the villains, they just follow the villain motif. One of them represents Jafar's staff lol.
@@patronofdragons Nooo, Jamil is Jafar's expy That was a one off-fan theory
What the descendants triology was like:
Descendants 1: driving smoothly.
Descendants 2: driving smoothly while sing sweet home Alabama.
Descendants 3: skirrrrts off the road into a ditch.
I love how you were so mad at the movie you didn't talked about any of the songs lmao
right lmao those sings slap tho
There is at least one movie confirmed to happen, but we'll just have to wait and see
Unfortunately Cameron Boyce died in 2019, rest in piece legend ❤️❤️❤️
8:46 in the show House of Mouse there was a episode were Hades tries to woo Maleficent.
Also if you'd read the books, you'll know that they've graduated.
unfortunately, since the passing of Cameron Boyce (Carlos) the main cast has stated that they don't want another main Descendants movie because it wouldn't be the same without him
maybe a side movie/special or a spin off but most likely this is the last movie they're doing
Makes sense to me
Descendants 1 and 2 for me were really cool honestly, but after the death of Cameron I stopped following it since I really liked Cameron and tbh I had a crush on him//
Descendants 3 was a bit of a let down although I remember listening to that Queen of Mean song non stop- It's still great imo
Descendants 4.. I haven't even seen it (ofc) but I really hope it's better than the 3rd!
Wait 4????
@@mag-narwhal 4 likely is r going to be seen before 2023
there is no descendants 4- lol
wait do you mean the wedding?
You shouldn’t have the magical items on display for the public especially in the easiest museum to break into ever
It’s really weird that they imprisoned a God. He’s a God! yeah he’s not a good guy but so our most Greek Gods. Like let him do his job.
There was gonna be six!?
they're making another live action and Uma is in it, I suspect a reveal that she is Mal's half sister, Hades' other kid, but maybe only Ursula knows this. Low key explains how they were able to reignite Hades' ember
Things I liked about the movie:
Things that ruined the move for me:
*Maleficent and Hades!?*
What?
Sorry for the random rant, but since I always enjoyed Hades, I’m a little (bias) mad here. But hey, at least I got to see him in the movie
"What you got to" is one of the funniest songs I've ever listened, I love it.
Fairy godmother’s wand: top security, barrier, and alarm that notifies HRs
Villain Artifacts: yeah just leave them out there nobody’s gonna want to rebel and take any of these other super powerful items anyway
I feel like Negative would like ZOMBIES more than Descendants. For one, the music.
12:06 I wanna add, I think she actually DIED
Cause they needed Hades, the god of the UNDERWORLD
And their is actually a myth where it is proven Hades can bring people back to life (For the ones who wanna know the myth, it's the myth of Orpheus)
They could've made the ex girlfriend so interesting if she was mad for the being abandoned by her bf, then it'd be Ben's fault. But noooo, then they'd have to put actual effort in this movie.
Oh gosh, I remember when everyone (meaning pretty much just young girls) was obsessed with Queen of Mean. Including me.
Aaah, D3. I remember back when everyone thought the villain was rumoured to be a kid of Hades. Not Audrey.
"Like the Sonic franchise, don't diss the music"
Fully Agree! The soundtrack of Sonic Adventure 2 is just *chef's kiss*
Yeah, they should have a special safe for all the relics and not keep them out in the open.
I think it’s cool that they took a forgotten minor antagonist and turned her into a full-fledged threat, but that’s about it.
My favourite part of this movie has to be hades awkward backwards roll after trying to escape the isle
Like he just
Keeps going
ok so they are planning on making more descendants stuff including movies, but most likely focusing on a different set of villain kids since its just not the same without Carlos (since his actor passed away) and from a teaser that we've seen at the end of the Descendants Royal Wedding short, it's gonna be centered around Wonderland in some form or fashion
next time in descendants 4 they make a jail for everyone (like bad royals and the non reforming villain's)and reinstate magic incase someone gets out
My biggest issue was Evie's song one kiss....its really a pace breaker compare to the others
The sad thing is that while Descendants 3 is a bad movie, it will most likely be the last due to contract endings and because tragically the actor who played Carlos passed away.
This movie left me so uninterested that my laptop turned off 15 minutes before the end and I never bothered to turn it back on and finish the movie.
You should watch Descendants the Royal Wedding , they give us a clue about what the next movie’s gonna focus on
