    Another lawyer telling you not to go to law school. But if you love it....

    Well, I have yet to meet a Mattlock type of attorney. I had someone tell me that I should be like the guy on Breaking Bad. Since I have not seen the show, I could not tell you whether or not that would be a good idea. Sometimes there are fun days and excitement. But, most of the time it is just paperwork. If you want an exciting job, become a prosecutor on the US and Mexico border.

    Great video man, most attorneys/paralegals I worked under as a file clerk told me not to go to law school and most of them appear to be depressed. Note: these are the people that landed jobs telling me this...

    This is a VERY accurate representation of the legal market at this time. DO NOT believe anyone who tells you otherwise. As a CPA/J.D. I am working in the oilfields as it pays enough to cover my student loan payments ($1,500/mo).

    Everyone I know that went to law school found it stressful and is either quite unhappy or have changed to a less stressful gig. Interesting video by the way.

    Is $40,000 a year really the average start pay for a lawyer graduating from a top tier school? Most Paralegals start pay is about $40,000 a year.

  • @timcrane88

    Just become a paralegal. I make as much each year as an attorney's assistant as many attorneys make - and I have one tenth of the student loan debt. I'm dead serious about this.

    It's interesting how colleges continue to grow tuitions pumping out graduates, as with law, but the jobs are not there.

  • @orlandocriminalteam
    @orlandocriminalteam 11 років тому

    Colleges in general, not just law schools, have not kept up with the supply/demand ratio. They must maintain certain funding levels and these are based on student enrollments. I think this is why colleges will continue to process students regardless of whether or not there are demands for the graduates' skills in the workplace.

    You can get any simple citable charge, parking, campfire, etc. but the location in my case and all five citations occurred in the Angeles national forest. I reached out to them prior to arraignment, and met with defenders boss got an investigator assigned, took a trip to prospecting area with atty and investigator, took photos. We also scanned Azusa tracking the guy who was forced by forest cop into signing a bogus affidavit. I'm so glad I had a smart lawyer.

    Here in the UK we spend 3 years doing our bachelor's degree, before specialising. We have barristers and solicitors, not attorneys like you have in the states. After your bachelor's degree to become a barrister you have to spend a year doing the BPTC (£13,000), followed by a year doing a pupillage under the supervision of a qualified barrister. To become a solicitor you do your bachelor's degree, then the LPC (£11,000), then 2 years working as a trainee. Much cheaper to qualify in the UK.

    Being a lawyer can be a very rewarding career. Yet, it's one that often includes a six-figure debt to start out. One should be certain this is the career they want to pursue before proceeding.

    i waved time for a year and a half. then they dropped 7 charges, and kept one misdemeanor, so it should have been a year or less probation, because like you said misdemeanors carry one year sentence

    So this talks about corporate law and big to mid size firms, but what about those that want to become public interest lawyers? Is the market the same for those people? For example I would love to work at a DA's office. Is competition for these jobs very high?

    Choosing to start a family in this economy is just an expensive as a law degree..thats why I chose the degree. Starting off making $40,000 a year doesn't sound that bad when you are the only person to take care of.

    NA, I DONT WANA BE A LAWYER, BUT I GOT A QUESTION,
    I HAD 5 FELONIES AND 3 MISDEMEANORS, BUT GOT LUCKY AND THE DA DROPPED ALL CHARGES EXCEPT 1 RESISTING ARREST MISDEMEANOR, BUT WHAT I DONT GET IS WHY DID THEY SENTENCE ME TO 3 YEARS PROBATION WHEN I ONLY HAD ONE MISDEMEANOR, IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN 1 YEAR OR LESS CAUSE IN CALIFORNIA A MISDEMEANOR IS A YEAR OR LESS RIGHT?

    In many other career choices, $40,000 a year would be great money. However, law school is expensive. As was said in the video and also by a few posters, the student loans from law school are enormous and they must be repaid.

  • @westin1985
    @westin1985 12 років тому

    Yeah... Like you can't win a case. People don't want to hear that. So a lawyer will take the money, go through the motions of the legal system, and then in the end tell the client we lost after milking him for $20,000.

    In USA lawyering and doctoring is based on how much it costs and how much you earn to be rich. In china it is a calling depending on ability and desire. Brother Mao pays for education and lawyers and doctors don't get rich but do it for the fatherland.

    Hello, I'm a senior at Berkeley and I've been admitted to Harvard, Stanford, Columbia and many others recently. My question to you is, should I take a full ride to Michigan/Penn/Virginia or take on debt and attend S or H? I'm truly learning towards S since they say biglaw is a lock, please let me know. S is offering 40k a year so I'm looking at about 90k in debt when all said and done.

  • @TaylorWillingham

    @Takeitoff08 The problem is not making $40,000 a year. It is the $150,000 student loan that is needed to make $40,000 a year.

    This sounds like a disgrunted attorney...maybe he is rightI You will see a lot of hording by well to do lawyers who brag on their web sites over millions but refuse to hire adequate staff.......maybe that is why so many, in the end, corrupt their own morals and do things that are not ethical...
