I love their version... from beginning to end. The original It is a very repetitive song - and they made each verse unique (as there are no instruments of course). They went for an 80's feel - including the VHS distortions. I think it is an amazing Layne arrangement. Of course my favourite Geoff arrangement is indeed Nothing Else Matters... but considering that they do EVERYTHING themselves, I feel both were awesome. Thank you for your honest reaction though! 🌹🕊

They went for 1980s Miami Vice feel. Laynes' dads 1972 Pontiac. J. dressed like Crockett. They had a few hiccups with the lights, fog machine, and being eaten by bugs. They had live audience with people walking by stopping to watch them film. Filmed behind the Oviedo Mall where Layne and Tony have their PattyCake Productions studio.

Oh those dudes in the car….
Random college dudes: Do you need any background dancers?
      Layne: Are you hot chicks?
I laughed for a solid ten minutes on that. Lanye is fast AF; I never want to cross wits with him. But he managed to tell them no in a way where they laughed about it rather than be upset.

We will agree to disagree. Cesar does a side eye near the beginning when the lyrics are "if I saw you were drowning I would not lend a hand" that grabbed me right away. Layne's beautiful baritone solo, same. We don't get to hear him sing often enough.
    I thought it was wonderful!!!!!

I remember hearing Phil Collins do this in concert and he started it like VP did. He didn't hit the drums until 2/3 to 3/4 of the way through. I love VPs version here. The 1972 Pontiac was loaned by Layne's dad who had bought it new. J None had the Miami Vice jacket on.

There is a Phil Collins video. IMO this one is better. As a certified Old Person™, the slow start didn't bother me because it does call back to the original, but also I was busy geeking out over all the authentic 80s touches - the jackets, the car, Geoff's cut-off sleeves and his hair, the aspect ratio at the beginning, the VHS degradation artifacts (and that theme is carried on into the second half in the sound choices they made--those rock belts and the flourishes like Cesar's "I can feel it" are all _quintessential_ 80s.)

This song, I believe, was played on Miami Vice.

The original live performance from Phil Collins is actually pretty samey up until the drum solo comes in. Look it up sometime, and you'll see what we mean. People tend to forget how long it is until Phil Collins sits down at the drums. Knowing the original those of us who know it can see how much VP did with this, giving that 80s vibe, even the nod to Miami Vice. I guess you're too young to know that stuff. :)

If you go watch the original again, it starts out slow as well. You are not remembering correctly. Especially if you watch the live version, it starts out even slower than this one.
