If you wanted to play against type with Tyr, a fun option I think would be go rogue and take the inquisitive archetype along with the acolyte background NOBODY EXPECTS THE TYRAN INQUISITION.
I have a player character who is a chaotic-good follower of Tyr: "Justice" to her is subjective and is mostly about protecting others, and seeking revenge and vengeance through the sword.
One of my favorite characters ever made was a half orc storm cleric pirate/sailor that worshiped Umberlee and Talos. He could been seen throwing exspenive bottles of wine for Umberlee into the sea for her and build shrines to Talos to appease them for his next voyage. He did alot of burst damage ended up with his own ship and a +3 Trident he turned to being a chaotic good character. I had alot of fun! He was a kinda of tanky version of Jack sparrow type character.
I agree, it shows to me that Ao despite being on a whole different level and with no alignment is still very much like other gods in terms of being incredibly vain and petty.
For other topics, countries/regions of faerun. There is so little information on youtube and the internet on any given place in faerun not on the sword coast. It reminds me of history class where we only ever learned American history. This is especially useful lore as it sets up the world for DMs to more easily grasp what any given part of the world is actually like.
By the way I love some of the characters you list as fun examples at the end of the videos. they are always interesting even if not specifically my taste.
@3:33 the Character Artwork for this guy, hitchin' a ride on the sea with an empty jug... I can hear it... "Heyy goin' mah way lil' fishy?" The next image is the retelling of how he became stranded, "ohh why did I drink SO Much!? Damn you Gods!"
Umberlee has a temple in the city of Baldur's Gate if I recall correctly. You see it in the games and if you helped one out of an issue earlier they might help you out to... Maybe...
I've been Jonesing to play a Tempest Cleric of Umberlee for a while and this is confirmation. Oh and this is the highlight of Wednesdays every week for me :)
DM hombrewed a world where Umberlee was more of a primordial god of the Cult of the Crashing Wave. My group ended up giving them an orb that could turn you evil but gave you great power over water
I made a tortle fighter who grew up not knowing of umberlee but living of the gifts travellers put there for her. She did not kill him so when a knowledgeable man encountered him, he took him with him and trained him as a champion/fighter. Now while levelling im just waiting to drop the levels in barb/paladin (barb zealot seems fitting for the raging sea) Anyone have any ideas of how to RP the transition from trained fighter to raging zealot?
Wait wait wait, when did they retcon Tyr's background story? Cause last time I checked, he is actually the _literal_ god Tyr from norse mythology, who gained popularity roughly one thousand-ish years ago on Abeir-Toril, thus joining the pantheon on that plane. Is this 4th edition's doing? Cause this sounds like it's 4th edition's doing.
The info in the video is mostly 2nd and 3rd ed. from what I know. The deities lifted whole from Earth mythology was common for 0th and 1st ed. D&D, but many of them were rewritten, especially for the 1st to 2nd edition transition.
Ao is such an a-hole; he took Tyr’s eyes just for saying, “Are you sure that’s the right choice?” I know it says he doesn’t have an alignment but in my book that makes him evil.
that lord ao such a jerk. I don't even bother to press shift for capitals. lord ao and his loyal puppet helm. if I was sentient being in Forgotten Realms I would dedicate my life to escaping ao's prison and I would take with me as many others as I can. those who enjoys to be nothing more than ao's toys don't deserve freedom.
we live in a wonderful world. we don't have any stupid lords and gods. we have just a Universe, dark, cold, empty, indiffirent. alas, some fear this freedom. some fear this responsibility. this loneliness.
Tyr stood up to Ao himself, fought off a demonic invasion whilst missing a hand, died, and came back to life. Tyr is a total BAMF.

Omg, that Paladin of Umberlee idea is great. I'm totally going to make an NPC that is Dex Paladin and a Swashbuckler Rogue right now.
can somone make a paladin of an evil god? is there an archetype for evil paladins?
Spicy Marine Yeah, kind of, there's Oath of Conquest from XGtE, that sounds pretty evil to me.

We need a lot more of Tyr in this world
Totally unjust that upon Try's resurrection/return during the Second Sundering, that his hand and eyesight were not returned to him.

Awesome video!
Man, it always makes me happy to see your videos. Keep it up!

LOVE IT! This video touched on TWO of my players...one is a Cleric to Tyr and the other one is an Oracle of the Water Mystery.
Thanks Jorphdan, awesome work.

It should be said that whilst Bahamut got Tyr's portfolio, Tyr gifted Tom all of his deific power. Thus Tom was elevated to Greater God status.
Kailani is my water genasi Tempest cleric following umberlee XD
Great video as always! Can't wait till next Wednesday :)
Yesssss, I’ve been waiting for Umberlee since I came across this series
You should have done Valkur with umberly because they both gods of the sea while also being directly opposed
I've been Jonesing to play a Tempest Cleric of Umberlee for a while and this is confirmation. Oh and this is the highlight of Wednesdays every week for me :)
Joel Zerr as a person playing a cleric of Umberlee, I 100% recommend. If you have a good DM, it’s amazing. She’s a cool kid god.
I kind of want to play a lawyer priest of Tyr. He would be the Perry Mason of Waterdeep.
Fantastic work as always. Thank you.
Thank you Jorphdan!
I would love to see a video breaking down everytime Lord AO physically manifested or intervened.
2:58 Hodor. God of Hodor
No criticism this time you did a good job

Next campaign I am playing a goblin tempest cleric who follows umberlee
No mention of Tyr himself being from Norse Mythology?
Yeah, Icelander here, Týr is a "loaner" from us.

I'll have to did deeper but I pulled a majority of information from second edition books
The info in the video is mostly 2nd and 3rd ed. from what I know.

Trithereon deserves an episode!
I'm gonna play a warlock of the deep one, with umberlee as the patron.
solid choice
So Jorphdan, what would be the main differences between Torm and Tyr? They seem almost too similar to have separate portfolio's.
Tyr's portfolio is Justice, Torm's portfolio loyalty and dedication. Though Torm gained the Justice portfolio until Tyr returned
im begging for a Shaundakul video! thanks for teh great channel
novel son of Thunder has details of his followers
If Tyr was brought back to life did he get his hand and eyes back too?
I don't think so, still missing his hand and eyes
Ao is a pitiless Overgod it seems...
He was just Ressurected, not True Ressurected :)
Jordan a video about Dark Sun please
What happened to helm after that?
What of Sharess?
Where is Tyche?? she just got a short shoutout during the last video....
she was split into Tymora and Beshaba during the Dawn Cataclysm

Did he say "bitch queen"? At 3:32
Yep!
I'm a fan of Umberlee
The Bitch Queen? Lol i thought DnD had no cursing
arte0021 she deserves the title. Love, a very loving follower of Umberlee as a cleric.
Did the PH also question great Ao?
Jorphdan.
yes
Ao is such an a-hole; he took Tyr’s eyes just for saying, “Are you sure that’s the right choice?”

You should make an instagram, and im looking foward to next vid. thx for this.

I would uber love if you would do a series on forgotten realms characters from some of the more popular novels. So... do that.. please?!?
I'm worried is mess up some much loved characters. I haven't read most of the numerous novels
Audio books man... Audiobooks. They are great for the forgotten realms books, and they have some truly excellent narrators. Victor Bevine is amazing.
3:31 it is supposed to sound like you're saying "bitch queen"
I think that's what I said... That's what she's known as
@@Jorphdan oh
You sound chipper in this video.
No hand and no eyes? Wtf, does he have the handicapped portfolio?
