If you don't get the prestige model, you get 2nd row seats that clip in and out (in the EX and SX models). You can take the middle seats out, fold the back seats down, and have a four by eight foot flat place to lay things like sheets of plywood, or wallboard, or a big bunch of lumber, or maybe camping gear, or a mattress to sleep on, or my goodness who know what. It is a Big cargo space....bigger than your average pickup truck. We helped our daughter move with it. My husband and son went camping in it. We hauled plywood and 2 by 6's and 2 by 8's to repair our deck in it. That was just the first two months since we bought our sweet 2021 Kia Carnival. We absolutely LOVE our "Big Ass Bertha". Not only that, but people actually "check her out" as she drives by. Imagine that. Oh, did I mention the smooth ride? She gives us a smooth ride. Any complaints.....well, I'm not too happy with all that electronic gobbletygoop that interacts with us on the front dash, but my husband really likes it. Yeah, this new Kia van is a real win in my book. I think we'll keep her. Oh yeah, I forgot my main point. The seats that clip in and out also tilt forward, so your little darlings (and skinny grown-ups) can slip into the back seat. Hey, hey! And another thing....Bertha doesn't have seven seats. She has eight.
for anyone that is minivan hesitant, this is an excellent vehicle. you get all the goodness of a MV (ie. low step in height, sliding doors, tons of space for stuff and humans, reasonable gas mileage, smooth ride and a bunch of useful tech) and the looks of an SUV. You miss out on AWD and an electrified option, but you get everything else. I traded my mid-size SUV for this van a few months ago and its been a great vehicle. I've gotten more compliants about the style than any car I've owned before.
I agree. But my thing is, since the side doors are automatic anyway, why not just move the door handles to the rear of the door instead of the front of the door...??? Then it would REALLY look like an SUV.
Thank you for the Video. All in all I think waiting for another year to decide on a van is the right decision. No one van seems to fit everyone’s needs. Which means I should wait to see what the ID Buzz and the 2022-2023 minivan models will bring next year.
I have a Telluride which has the same engine and about the same weight. I've hit 130mph pretty easily and have driven for over 3 hours with HDA without touching it with my hand. I just sit back watch the road and tap the wheel with my leg. Love Kia HDA, it takes the fatigue you get from micromanageing the steering wheel. Obviously you have to hold the wheel when there's exit ramps and construction.
I just like the fact that other companies are also coming out with new/refreshed mini vans. It’s sad that in the family market there’s only like 4 mini vans to pick from.
I feel like with millennials finally settling down buying homes and starting families they will quickly realize how awesome the mini van is. We have already started to see an increase in mini van sales, only time will tell if it gets competitive again. Side note, i saw this design of a chevy astro that looked so bad ass, like Chevy....make that car people will buy it, jist make it family friendly on the inside.
Almost bought a 2024 Honda Odyssey Touring. I was shopping for an EX-L, but I wanted the front and rear parking sensors which only come on the Touring and Elite. Dealer wouldn't budge on price, so I did not get it. I had test driven the Kia Carnival a week earlier and was blown away. Totally impressed. I wasn't sure about Kia reliability, so I put in my offer for the Odyssey. Glad the dealer didn't take my offer. I had that itch to buy a new car, but the itch is gone. I'm looking at the KIA again for the value it provides....more safety features, warranty, and reliability. According to another review I saw, the Odyssey has below average reliability. The Carnival has average reliability. I was planning to buy an extended warranty for the Odyssey (8 years, 120k miles), but that would have increased the cost significantly, but I wanted that peace of mind. The one thing the Odyssey has going for it is the ease of access to the third row. No other minivan beats it. Those Magic seats are awesome.
prestige trims dont have easy way of moving out of the way to access 3rd row. only the lesser trims have that classic minivan folding function. so yeah you gotta do the classic step in and duck while moving around the 2nd row seats (just like some minivan seats in the olden days)
The 'walk in' 2nd row seat mechanism in the manual says 'if equipped' appears to be a handle mounted on the bracket that attaches the seat to the back and from the back seat there is a strap on the outboard bottom corner of the seat. I think with the "VIP Lounge Seating" you're expected to move the seats far outboard and scurry between them. But honestly, if you are putting those ridiculous barcaloungers in the 2nd row; you probably won't be having any plebs in the 3rd row.
These barcalounger-style seats are a big thing in the Japan/Asia markets. Check out interior photos of the Toyota Granvia and Toyota Alphard, for example.
6 years is a typical model cycle in the car world, so it makes sense. The Sedona was named Carnival outside the US and entered production in 2014 as a 2015 model.
We are in the market for a new car and will possibly buy in late 2024. I have been looking at the Kia Carnival as one of the main options. This is almost perfect for us as it crosses 95 percent of the boxes. The boxes are: Space, Naturally Asperated V6, Non-Hybrid, No silly stop/start complications, Style (SUV looks), Has both direct injection as well as Port injection to minimize carbon build up over time. Plus many other minivan positives like auto sliding doors and lower height for ease of entry and exit. The main down side for me is that it is front wheel drive. I'm not requiring all wheel drive, I just prefer rear wheel drive vehicles. Other options I'm looking at are the Chevy Tahoe RST with performance package 🙂, or the GMC Denali. But both are far more expensive than the Carnival.
The reviewer kept zonking on the specs and features by comparing it to the Odyssey until the end where he then claims he wouldn’t get it because the Carnival doesn’t have AWD but no mention that neither does the Odyssey. Doesn’t make sense to compare like that. Under the totality of the features I would say the Kia does more than any of the competitors when compared 1v1.
I think people who don't know this is a minivan will never guess that it is one. I personally love it with that chrome accent from the C pillar on back - however, the chrome seems really obvious. Maybe a brushed matte black or dark gray might be better. Love the black wheels though. That definitely gives it a more SUV vibe. Overall, I really like it. It does make you ask yourself: Do you prefer a more minivan look since that's what it is or do you like the big SUV look?
We have this exact van. Don't buy this if you: Have two toddlers in boosters or child seat. The lounge seats would be useless. We have one toddler in a booster and she sometimes uses it. But she can't fully recline and she can't feel the cooling feature. So one side is totally useless. Don't buy this if you have more than 2 kids. 3rd row access is difficult. You have to slide both 2nd row seats to the outside and use the middle to access it. If you slide it to the outside, the lounge features can't be used. Otherwise, it's a great vehicle. We compared it against the big 3 and this won out in styling, tech, and passenger comfort. People....if you have a long road trip, whoever sits in those lounge chairs will thank you. Talk about riding in style and comfort. Kicking all the way back with a pillow? Forgetabout it. Nothing else comes close to that relax feeling. You'll only get that in an S class Mercedes.
The access to the 3rd row was the PRIMARY reason, why I didn't buy this car. Another major trouble is the visibility of driver console. The steering is way too large for that visibility.
Looks like Micah was visiting mom in Bakersfield viva Oildale... Your daughter is KBB's Lyn replacement when she gets older (25-30), she loves the camera.
I am not sure if anyone knows this, you can flip all the 2nd row seats around facing backwards. Then everyone can face each other both 2nd and 3rd row seats.
A KIA fan here. Our family has owned two Sorentos over the last decade. Our 2018 model is my wife's daily driver, our big dog's second home, and the family's version of a "Truckster" from the National Lampoon Vacation movie. Our small family doesn't need a minivan and my wife wouldn't own one for image reasons and the driver's low seating position compared to her beloved SUV. Nevertheless, the Carnival is an obvious upgrade from the previous generation Sedona. Have to say, though, that I don't think KIA has done enough to move the Carnival out of fourth place in sales among the four minivans currently available in the US. First and foremost, the absence of a hybrid version and the lack of AWD are major obstacles compared to the Pacifica and the Sienna. And overcoming brand loyalty and the strong long term reputation of Honda means KIA is unlikely to surpass the Odyssey in sales. Still, KIA has made an effort to shed the negative stereotype of minivans in the styling of the Carnival. And the bells and whistles of the top trim version include a number of "wow" factors. The most obvious of which are the lounge chairs in the second row of the top trim SX. On that point, however, I'm puzzled. Is there really a market for a limousine style minivan when second row seating is presumably reserved for munchkins? Is the Carnival an example of overindulgence and entitlement for middle class children?
I don't know if it would be more gas efficient than the grand caravan I drive, but oh god. It would be a welcoming change to have a better infotainment with apple car play. Ours is the 2020 G. Caravan and it comes with a gamin gps and not compatibility for ipod, android content, and *ugh* siriusxm *ugh*.
No AWD, No Hybrid.. exactly the 2 features I don't want to have in my car. 3rd is a turbo. Those 3 are just another systems that can fail. But really won't reward my owners that much of what they bring to the table. I'm in the market for a simple spacious good looking vehicle. So AWD drive is a no, because it's not 4wd. In my area, a good winter tire in a 2WD will perform the same. Hybrid is a no. No brand has ever figured it out yet at the moment. I'll consider by time they already perfected it. And Turbo is a no, I won't race with this vehicle. V6 naturally aspirated is more than enough for all my needs.
Seems to be just as good as any of the other brands today. Mainly good cars with a few bad apples mixed in. Seems like every brand runs into issues with every vehicle now a days with how complex vehicles are becoming
Style wise, as a dad I like it, looks cooler (well as cool as a mini van can be). I love that sun roof towards the back, it often gets too dark in other minis. However, the deal breaker is chair versatility and access to third row. Having three toddlers and all the stuff we carry i need to be able to access all rows easily. At this point it's basically an SUV and I already have a Sequoia for that. I think this is a great passenger mini with some awesome features that I think families would love but at the end of the day "families" buy minis for hauling people/kids and for that and what I need think Odyssey is still going to have to be my pick. I do hope Honda looks at Kia and copies or at least add AWD.
I can also speak from my experience with Sedona in the past, the 10,000 mile power train warranty is a scam. I had a power train failure and the dealer didn't want to fix it for me. They wanted to have proof of my receipts of the past maintenance record and believe it or not, questioning legitimacy of it. After all the back and forth with the dealer they offered me to pay half of the repairing costs. Which is the full price if I fix it myself with my local mechanics. I ended up fixing it myself and got so sick of the car I sold the car right after that. Kia is an evil company.
Did you have the maintenance records? If you did and the dealer only offered half you should have escalated to Kia US Corporate, Dealers don't want to do warranty work due the reimbursement rates from the manufacture I suspect that is the case here and in they offered to pay half, which is what warranty work usually pays so they would have not been out any money even though this is in past you should escalate to Corp
@@scotthall1381 Yes I had all the past maintenance records of the car and still they didn't honor the full repair costs. Doesn't really matter now. I will never buy any KOREAN made cars in my life ever again. Just bought the Tesla Model Y this year and oh boy.. what a transcending experience of car driving ever in my whole life.
On a new van even Kia the most you could really do is change your oil every 5k miles just keep your reciepts, not sure what else the dealer would require if you have a power Train failure. The transmission Fluid is 100,000 Mile fluid as stated in the manual so if your transmission fails you don't need reciepts for that.. Why did you have issues??
Beautiful Van but the most I would pay for it is $35k tops. To get roofrack, tow pkg and upgraded dash is EX at $45k and prestige $58k..if im spending $50 it wouldn't be this..
Simple solution, folks: Don’t have kids. Wear condoms. Tie your tubes. Get vasectomies. Do whatever you need to do to stop procreating. There’s no point in keeping the human race going when the planet is on the verge of imploding.
yes, that's how we get into the 3rd row. The 2nd row VIP seats slide in-ward and out-ward. I'd prefer a more traditional access system but the VIP seats I assume have too much electronics to make it happen.
The Kia Telluride has a very minivan interior with the 2nd row captains chairs, and it has AWD. In fact the reason I didn't buy the Telluride is because when I got it it reminded me too much of my mother's minivan when I was a kid.

@@2011blueman Agreed on the Telluride, but who can wait 9 mos to get one?
@@plmn93 I think you're confused, because that's simply not true. The Telluride's total passenger volume is 178.1 cubic feet. The total passenger volume of the Carnival is 168.2 cubic feet.
Hmmm....I'm not as impressed with the Carnival (it's not a car, so should it be called a Vannival?) Speaking of dumb names (lol) I wish the auto industry would drop the 'mini' from this category. There is nothing mini about them. The gimmicky styling is something that I would get tired of in short order. I'm single, so I have no use for a van, but when a family (The Muzios) say they wouldn't buy it, then there's something wrong. Hey Micah, as always, great video (GoPro failures aside), so here's *your* high five 😄🤚
Hmmm… what truck/suv features does it have versus a minivan? High ground clearance? 4x4? AWD? Perhaps a body-on-frame design? A cargo bed? Heavy duty towing? It’s a minivan, plain and simple.
@@ZapFlashD It's the things we can't control like rain & snow spray from the rear tires, muddy water & snow getting caked on the bumper during the drive.
@@dweiss1 If I remember correctly, the regulation is that you can’t have the turn signals (and red brake lights?) as part of the rear cargo hatch. Which doesn’t mean, Kia, that you HAVE to put them in the bumper. Just put the turn signals next to the cargo hatch. That’s what Honda did with the Passport. I HATE that Kia and Hyundai have done this. So many situations where this could be a problem.
Normally love your videos. However...you spent too much time trying to be excessively clever & the addition of your family, while adorable, was a distraction to those of us who were looking for more details about this van.
What most people don't know is that the majority of minivan buyers aren't families. They're empty-nesters AKA just mom and dad. Realistically speaking, the third-row is never utilized by empty-nesters because only the second row has a person or two, like kids visiting back from college.
I am following micah since he is in KBB. Pls do not post 1 min stupid videos of you flying aircraft. Only stick to full reviews I would suggest. Just subscribed…. Dont degrade this channel
So much gloss black plastic in a van that be covered in oils from sweaty teenagers with lotion, dirty kids, and cargo. Every car I've seen with gloss black it scratches 1 week later, and looks horrible.
It's a ridiculous system, so you have AWD, so you can go "up the mountain". But down the mountain the allseasons will break poorly... oh well, nobody cares about that...
The Pacifica has one of the lowest JD power reliability ratings of any car on the market. Everyone I know with one has had problems. I don't care how nice the interior is if a car can't be counted on to last.
the design of this is TRULY AWFUL - nothing worse than something trying to look like something else - would rather drive a legit minivan than this piece fakery
I could not care less about minivans but I watched it because of the up beat entertainment value......good job!
That’s really kind of you to say, Rich. Cheers!

To me the coolest minivan is the upcoming VW retro bus, but this is definitely a cooler than average minivan design.
my dream car
I've heard that from other people about Kia. The dealers around here have a bad reputation.
I'm so annoyed the ex doesn't have Bluetooth. It's the trim with the colour I want but I'm not paying $6000 extra for no Bluetooth
Telling me in the prologue you wouldn't buy one, it made me turn off review. I bet Kia is thrilled
Kia turned off comments on their "Carnival 2nd & 3rd Row Seats" video...😮
Whats your familly car? I mean what do you drive
Beautiful Van but the most I would pay for it is $35k tops. To get roofrack, tow pkg and upgraded dash is EX at $45k and prestige $58k..if im spending $50 it wouldn't be this..
Wish you had reviewed a non fully loaded trim😞
It’s a press vehicle, they weren’t given a choice. He said that.
Nice vehicle!
Looks like a minivan that will do the job. Though, I got to say how many people leave their kids in there to need an alert?
Too many.
Simple solution, folks: Don’t have kids. Wear condoms. Tie your tubes. Get vasectomies. Do whatever you need to do to stop procreating. There’s no point in keeping the human race going when the planet is on the verge of imploding.
Can’t you just go down the middle of the two seats…?
yes, that's how we get into the 3rd row. The 2nd row VIP seats slide in-ward and out-ward. I'd prefer a more traditional access system but the VIP seats I assume have too much electronics to make it happen.
I wouldn't buy one since I can't get the top of the line model with second row removable seats.
I wouldn't buy the top trim because my kids don't deserve to have that level of comfort. They need to suffer like I did riding in a Toyota previa
@@remyd8767 Now that is hilarious.
@@remyd8767 The Previa was luxurious. The captain’s chairs and two sunroofs were incredible for the 1990’s.
I wish I could have gotten my high five
First, i cant believe that Im actively shopping a minivan. Now, this would be the absolute best choice our family IF it had AWD. But it doesnt.
@ Try the Bronco, the majority of people that put in a reservation in July 2020 are still waiting.
@@2011blueman Telluride is way smaller. If you don't need the third row it's OK.
@@plmn93 I think you're confused, because that's simply not true. The Telluride's total passenger volume is 178.1 cubic feet. The total passenger volume of the Carnival is 168.2 cubic feet.
Micah I believe there are better choices.
The Mini is an entire automotive brand.
It's still much smaller than a full size van.
The styling to good for a minivan! Past!
Not a van everyone it's an mpv. It's a mix of a suv, truck and a van! This MPV is awesome!
Hmmm… what truck/suv features does it have versus a minivan?
High ground clearance? 4x4? AWD? Perhaps a body-on-frame design? A cargo bed? Heavy duty towing?
It’s a minivan, plain and simple.
Not a big fan of:
1) rear silver C pillar
2) no AWD
3) no hybrid.
Not a big fan of: This comment.
@@Joe-ix5hj lol
Rear turn signals are on the bumper. WHY KIA? WHYYYYYYY??
Just drive further back and don't tailgate people
@@ZapFlashD It's the things we can't control like rain & snow spray from the rear tires, muddy water & snow getting caked on the bumper during the drive.
I'm thinking US federal regulations had something to do with it. Which is why the 2022 Chevy Bolt and Bolt EUV have their turn signals in the bumper.
If you want roof rack, you need sx trim. This will be a no for me.
Outside style is kinda Ford Expedition'ish and not minivan
Your GoPros are always failing, need to get new cameras.
I always come and get my go five, but I think this time I hit Micah in the face…
Sorta reminds me of the Ford Flex, which I'd consider an SUV minivan more than the Carnival.
Normally love your videos. However...you spent too much time trying to be excessively clever & the addition of your family, while adorable, was a distraction to those of us who were looking for more details about this van.
Why u call it mini van?
Instead, call a limousine
Ah My Favorite Murder PODCAST fans???!!!
What most people don't know is that the majority of minivan buyers aren't families. They're empty-nesters AKA just mom and dad.
Realistically speaking, the third-row is never utilized by empty-nesters because only the second row has a person or two, like kids visiting back from college.
Brussels sprouts suck, always.
No awd that's Cah raaaazee.
Knew your answer would be "no AWD". Viewers may not know that, without chains or AWD, CHP can stop drivers from going up the hill.
Only on mountain roads that require them.
It's a ridiculous system, so you have AWD, so you can go "up the mountain". But down the mountain the allseasons will break poorly... oh well, nobody cares about that...
dang unreliable GoPros
ALL THESE HYUNDAIS HAPPY CRAPPY GRILLS, HONESTLY IT RUINS THE WHOLE RANGE
Full disclosure.....I abhor minivans. But I love Muzios and enjoyed your review. Opinion: Burn it. Burn it with fire.
This is a cool van because this isn’t a Toyota 😆
In this segment, nothing comes close to the pacifica.
The Sienna kills it.
The Pacifica has one of the lowest JD power reliability ratings of any car on the market. Everyone I know with one has had problems. I don't care how nice the interior is if a car can't be counted on to last.
Still prefer the Pacifica
the design of this is TRULY AWFUL - nothing worse than something trying to look like something else - would rather drive a legit minivan than this piece fakery
Not a fan
clowns scare me. So do $46k price tags.
Put a dodge symbol on the front and I’d swear it’s a new caravan
