Maurice White, an "Icon" him George Clinton, The Ohio Players and Slave just to name a few introduced us to some awesome musicians and I thank god that I was able to Listen and meet a lot of them in my lifetime!
This was the album, and this song in particular, started my lifelong love affair with Earth, Wind, and Fire. I was only 12, but I was hooked and bought every album, 8-track, cassette, or cd they put out. Still the baddest band in the land!
"Evil" is the first Earth Wind and Fire song that I heard played on the radio. Luckily I have a friend from Jr. high school that knew who I was talking about when I asked about EF&W.
I'm 58 yrs old, and I went to see Earth wind and fire and a young girl with my father, I was in love with maurice white. Of course my dad didn't know, but I love me some him😍
Earth, Wind, and Fire. We used to rock the house back in high school in the late '70's with this great band. there will never be another era with the music we enjoyed growing up in the '70's. So much fun and we had the greatest music to go with it. Nothing like real instrutments , real singers and a great live performance. I wouldn't trade it for the world. this band's harmony and musicianship was second to none. Maurice White was a musical genus. R.I.P. Mr. White.
Stellar performances like this is all the reason why I can't bring myself to attend a concert by them today. Unfortunately, most of the original band has moved on and I can't relate to replacements playing these jams.

My friend and I working a summer job during landscaping at PSO summer 1973. So one day my friend says there’s new group Earth Wind and Fire with an album entitled ‘Head to the sky.’ So we got paid headed to Tulsa, Oklahoma. ( Home of the Gap Band). We went by the record store and there it was about eight band members on the cover of the album. My friend bought the album and I bought the eight track. When I played it was like I’ve nothing I’ve heard drums, horns, percussion, tight vocals, and kalimba . (I later bought an alto and tenor..) We then stopped by Lotta Burger and bought these huge hamburgers before taking off back home. And ever since then I saw them in concert winter of 1975, 2009 appearing with Chicago at zoo amphitheater in Oklahoma City, and about 2012 at the Choctaw Event Center in Durant, Oklahoma.. and of course bought most of their music on eight, cassette, cd, and concert DVD. It was the era of the bands and yes we came along at one of the best time.. Rest In Peace Maurice you created music that will last forever, LB Nov 2022
Should have been a hit in 1973. The only reason I can imagine that it wasn't is that there was so much amazing music in that era that it was crowded out. But we're still listening to it today.
Can we say a jam session at its finest! All of these young artist out here need to take note this is how you perform, with energy, passion, heart and most of all talent! It actually takes skill to do what these guys are doing, no computer generated beats, sounds, melodies, instruments, or singing here, nothing but pure talent. And Mr. Verdine White is making that guitar sing right now!
I was 19 when this came out I am telling my age now but, the point is that I loved these early albums! Open Our Eyes, That’s the Way of the World, Spirit....I could go on and on! I listen to them today to keep me grounded. Yes I miss you Maurice White but I know that you are singing with the angels, because our souls never die❤️♾☝🏼🙏🏽
I remember going to a EWF concert and the atmosphere was so right! In listening to the music and harmony I was lost in to another dimension and time! Itt literally took me to a place I never been before! That's what excellent music will do for you! These guys are just that great! There has never been a group that's done that before! I was an experience I never witnessed before! They are in a level all by themselves!

lmao!...they started getting more organized onstage in the late 70s...but yeah, Verdine White on bass guitar, and Al McKay on rhythm guitar would be onstage really feelin they own grooves with no restraint...that energy is a big part of what made their live shows so compelling and entertaining..

I did PR for a company called Ed White PR. First black-owned PR company in the music business. EWF was one of our clients, and I went to many gigs. Verdine White used to call me when he was on the road, because he missed LA, and would ask me to describe the weather and the palm trees. This was the greatest band ever, with the finest musicians on each instrument, and the brilliant arrangements of Charles Stepney & Reese White. Nothing even close to this exists today.

I have the original album,along with it's original inner sleeve. I have played, cheeristed and treasured this album since 1973, and although there are many albums (especially from the 70's era) that I also enjoy and that mean alot to me,I can definately say "The Head To The Sky Album" and particularly the instumental song "Zanzibar" are my alltime favorites.

EWF and Parliment Funkedelic had the Best live shows and the Quality of the music was amazing. EWF was more Afro Spiritually Funky with a lot of class. It was the Best of Times for AFROJAZZSOULROCK and R&B

It is so hard for me to describe the feeling of EWF live. The music is so driving and the lyrics are so spiritual that it is almost a joke to describe the feeling to everyone that has not experienced it. Your words were dead on!
I grew up in the 70's and 80's in Detroit and even I know that Earth, Wind & Fire was on another level with their music. They managed to tap into the metaphysical, spiritual, Black consciousness and vainglorious ancient Black history for all of us to grove to using the universal language of music which is mathematics. There aren't to many bands that can do this and are still around. Peace to all universalist!

The African Kalimba really gives this song an exotic and ethereal sound.
Kalimba sounds like a funkier version of the vibes

I went to see Earth, Wind & Fire last night at the Wolf Trap, and it was amazing. They may be the best R&B Band. They even played this song.

This was the first song I remember hearing by Earth, Wind and Fire, when it came out and I gotta say, as a twelve year old, I was blown away. I have been a super-fan ever since. The best band on the planet.

You are SO right, PAINFULLY right... 98% of pop music today is utter garbage compared to popular music of the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's (even some of the music of the 90's)...

Listening to EW&F wakes up the African spirit in me.
It is so hard for me to describe the feeling of EWF live. The music is so driving and the lyrics are so spiritual that it is almost a joke to describe the feeling to everyone that has not experienced it. Your words were dead on!
I grew up in the 70's and 80's in Detroit and even I know that Earth, Wind & Fire was on another level with their music. They managed to tap into the metaphysical, spiritual, Black consciousness and vainglorious ancient Black history for all of us to grove to using the universal language of music which is mathematics. There aren't to many bands that can do this and are still around. Peace to all universalist!
