  • Cinematic Depth of Field in Unreal Engine enables you to simulate real-world photographic depth-of-field effects that blur a scene based on the distance in front of, or behind, a focal point. It's not only high-quality and highly performant, it's also easy to use.
    In this Unreal Tips & Tricks video, we'll briefly discuss the basic operation of a camera and show how the real-world camera settings are implemented in Unreal Engine. We'll then look at how to add a cinematic camera to the scene and go over the filmback, focus, and lens settings, as well as explaining how to tweak those settings to achieve the required look, including bokeh effects. Finally, we'll see how you can easily visualize your focal plane.

    That's cool. Well presented. Please create a workflow for mixed reality using the HTC vive tracker. I'm encouraging my students integrate the system into their video projects. We are not in competition with the larger companies that are using tracking systems we can not afford. Unleash mixed reality for the lower end Unreal user.

    I have been trying to do this simply tutorial, but for some reason when I change the aperture (and I did many tries), nothing changes with the camera, there is simply no depth of field. Any idea why when moving the aperture the result its not visible? thanks

    • @hakametal
      @hakametal 4 роки тому +1

      It probably depends on your focal distance then. Make sure Depth of Field>Focal Distance is enabled and mess around with both the Aperture and Focal Distance.
      IMHO I don't like the new DOF in Unreal, I'm really not getting the results I desire.

    Hey @Unreal Engine team !
    Thanks for these tutorial series ; as a professionnal Cinematic Artist, i'm looking for a way to tweak the bokeh shape into something that looks more like an anamorphic oval. I've tried the "Advanced Depth of Field shape", but that does not seem to have any effect on my bokeh. Any tips on that ? :)

    Im looking to achieve a focal range rather than a focal plane. I have achieved a good focal plane for our hero object. But client wants background character blurred with foreground hero object clear. Problem is that the podium that the hero object sits on is slightly forward of hero object and is blurred. So i would live to achieve a range of focus (near and far) with everything behind blurred. Any ideas?

      What I'd do is select the character in your world (place a temporary one if you don't have it spawned yet), which should show a small preview of the camera's point of view in the bottom corner of the viewport. Then open your character blueprint and drag the window over so you can see the preview on your editor viewport. It should adjust in real-time as you change the values.

      Sorry about the frame rate issue in the intro. I was recording at 15fps with screen cap software and playing back in the editor, so it wasn't a smooth framerate. I'll try to improve upon that in future episodes.

    • @Unearthlywhales
      @Unearthlywhales 5 років тому

      It does, in your materials look for Render after DOF. If you turn that off it will should look as it should. I think it is a general optimization that is turned on in every translucent material on default.

    • @ShainAnimations
      @ShainAnimations 5 років тому

      @@Unearthlywhales Nope. What that does is it uses the depth of what's behind the translucent object. So, sure, it might work okay if the material is really clear, but if for example it's a dirty window, all that dirt, smudges etc. will look way too blurred, like it's aaalll the way in the distance.

    • @Unearthlywhales
