Dyn jarin wields the darksaber: whut
He came from a cult though, that had restricted knowledge/dogma, like the helmet thing
@@WolfgangDoW they’re really not a cult though. They merely adhere to the ancient way, unlike deathwatch, which is much more akin to a cult. Would you consider current native americans learning the ways of their ancient culture a cult?

Children of the Watch are just a splinter cell of the Deathwatch, so to say there's nothing radical or irregular about them is kind of intentionally misinterpreting a significant part of the plot
Din has A pure beskar suit of armor and helmet, a pure beskar spear, a rising phoenix jetpack (at least coated in beskar or it wouldn't take the hit Gideon tries to surprise on Din), and the dark saber. @@jgone4856 He can crush a Dark Trooper, DT can't dent his helmet.... In OUR world, I'd say no. In Star Wars world? Luke's powerful, so maybe?
@@jgone4856 it has to be possible according to other feats performed by both jedi and sith, at least the legends ones

To those who asked, no Beskar cannot be crushed by the force, if you have seen the old republic, Mandalorians fought Jedi in battles and the Jedi had to kill them by attacking their exposed weak points, the force was useless unless it was used to choke, push or lift the mandos up, but it could not directly crush beskar.
I don’t think Luke was a “lifelong duelist” either. He’d only been using a saber for less than a decade at that point.

Okay so when he says "It's overheating the material to the point where it could break"
This is really showing lack of understanding of materials and what glowing hot means.
By no means does the fact the Beskar start to glow from the heat mean the material is weakening or ready to break. It just means the material is getting hot. Tungsten can get glowing hot and still be hard and unmoving to hammer strikes and remain immutable.
Metal that is glowing hot is not an indicator of the materials actual resistance and if it will give out, it just happens when it gets hot enough. If the melting point is high enough metal can glow white hot and still not bend or warp.
Thank god. At least somebody knows what they're talking about.
That's rational. Another way to analyze the effect the dark saber had on Beskar is that it was designed to counter Beskar. Which would mean different properties of material would be able to counter the dark saber and would have similar drawbacks. The actual process that turns metal red hot is the same property that makes metal good for specific purposes. Example would be plastic. Plastic doesn't turn red before failing because plastic is horrible at transferring heat. The same amount of metal in that situation would turn red without deforming because that color change is actually the superior heat transferring properties of metal you can see with your own eyes. One is not better than the other in every situation. As you said it could easily be the case that Beskar was at no risk of failing and a property of Beskar.
You are absolutely correct, however it still shows that the Darksaber is much more powerful than a normal lightsaber, even if it still can't break Beskar
You are right. However, we know that Mandalorians can work Beskar to make armours and weapons, and we know that Beskar melts and bends because we saw it in the Mandalorian when the Armorer makes Din Djarin's armour so...
@@Wretchrot Are we really doing this? Are we going to compare science fiction craftsmanship techniques? Sounds cool I'm in. Before we do that if anyone has pliers and a steel nail or screw hold it against a stove burner. It's going to turn very violent red even though it's not even close to melting. I dare anyone to test this with fictional metal.
It’s got a special black Kyber crystal and was made by the most war worthy race there has been; the Mandalorians.

@@Cody357 The episode where he helps that armored sheriff and sand people kill the huge beast showed us a pearl, it's huge. Won't fit into a saber hilt. In the new lore it's only kyber crystals that do the job (much as I despise that idea). It was better when different materials could be used. But back then Krayt Dragons weren't as big as what we saw.
Setting aside the canonical lore of the light saber. Just speaking from the shape of a light saber alone the traditional one that the Jedi and Sith uses are pole like with pointy end or round end (depending on which show or movie of course), the dark saber has an actual property of a bladed weapon as you can see from the point of ignition where the plasma blade comes from is rectangular compared to the traditional lightsaber circular ignition point. Meaning the blade of a dark saber is "sharp" due to its narrow edge compared to the traditional design. This would mean more energy will be directed towards its sharp edge. Adding this with how hot plasma is, it would make sense that a dark saber would heat beskar faster compared to a traditional one.
Butifull
I wonder if expanded lore will come in about how Tarre Visla created it by using traditional jedi kyber crystal, the form of the Mandalorian sword & the fusion of Sith alchemy to enhance the blade.
Had Darth Vader had this...oh boy!
I'd love to see Din Djarin wielded this in battle!
this would also explain why light sabers are considered more useful by Jedi
A lightsaber can’t be plasma, it’s the biggest fallacy of the starwars fandom, for multiple reasons. One: plasma can’t be ignited in a vacuum without the presence of an ionized atom. Oxygen is needed in combustion. How is plokoon able to ignite his lightsaber in the vacuum of space in clone wars if it’s plasma? Two: plasma is a heated gas. How can it perfectly deflect bolts or other lightsabers if the blade itself has no physical mass and was a heated gas? Three: there are books that are still considered canon that have Luke noticing things about a lightsaber such as “he felt no heat near his hand” plasma radiates heat. If a lightsaber isn’t hot to anything but touch, that’s more akin to light than plasma, which you would definitely feel

The blades are magnetically controlled/shaped plasma. If the magnetic field is shaped in such a way as to direct the same amount of heat to a thinner surface, much as a sword is a director of the same amount of force as a baseball bat across a much thinner surface, the results will be different, more focused and intense.
I agree. I also think the dark sabre made more of a contact with the spear hence heating it
My thoughts exactly. Thank you for making this comment so my lazy self wouldn't have to lol
It might be the blade shape, allowing it to “wedge” into a much smaller surface area than a standard light saber could. (perhaps the flat edge of the darksaber is less effective than a standard lightsaber as well - limiting the versatility. Clearly I’m just guessing though, lol)
You would have to be better at edge alignment. Interestingly, it does have a guard that helps with that as well as a non-symetrical handle shape.
I think it's because the energy of a darksaber is focused towards the edge of the blade.
All good theories man, lots of comments don't disappoint 👍🍻
It has nothing to do with how hard the saber hits beskar, it's how long it would stay in contact with that one spot, if he held it in place in the beskar steel for long enough it would melt the beskar in that area

The darksaber’s blade is a lot more focused and angular. I wouldn’t say it’s more powerful than a lightsaber; just meant for different tasks, such as stabbing/hacking through beskar.
Which makes sense, considering who created it. Tarre Vizsla was a Mandalorian and a Jedi, meaning he was likely intimately familiar with Beskar properties or at least what it took to break the stuff. He probably experimented with the Darksaber to give it more weight and cutting ability, so it could penetrate through Mandalorian armor.
I suspect the darksaber is a style of sabre called a broad saber. They were primarily used in the transition from bladed weapons to energy sabers. It's never been said how long ago it was created. So when created could have been made in the style of a broad sabre as tar visla would have trained with an actual blade

Pretty sure the only times the beskar spear glowed was during prolonged contact with the darksaber. I don't remember Ahsoka locking up against the spear, and the hits on Din's armor didn't leave it red hot.
I was about to comment something similar, since to my knowledge we have never seen a saber in contact with beskar steel for a "clash" that last longer than 10 seconds.
There’s a misconception of lore here with Beskar where everyone thinks it’s lightsaber proof, but in fact is only lightsaber resistant. You can argue the cinematic series/movies are separate in terms of lore from the Star Wars legends lore and other extend universe entries. But rarely there’s been armor that can withstand lightsabers and furthermore with armor that is lightsaber proof. It’s why Jedi and Sith commonly wear light armor since it’s difficult to find armor that can stand lightsabers so they tend to light armor to increase their chances of dodging a lightsaber strike. The darksaber is unique in design, but just as any plasma cutter. If metal is constantly exposed to high temperatures, then the metal will melt eventually. Beskar is no exception.
Depends on the metal. Raw tungsten has a much higher melting point than typical steel. Also, you are missing a major component. Din jarins spear survived an orbital bombardment from a capital ship. The heat that would have been in that ship the moment it exploded should have melted the beskar away by your logic...
Ahsoka's sabers were pressed against the beskar spear for an extended amount of time and didn't heat up like it had with the dark saber if my memory serves me correctly.
His full beskar armor is literal plot armor. Sometimes he can be damaged and others not. They're very inconsistent in show about it.
It was also proved in Rebels in the episode “Trials of the Darksaber.”

How so?

@@drew2626 Kanan says something about it being even more powerful than a lightsaber to Sabine.
That would make sense, I mean, you could argue that, if a light-saber is a concentration of light so dense its heat cuts like a knife at, at least, a few thousand degrees, then the dark saber should be the absense of the particles of an ordinary light-saber. You could say it concentrates the absense of light, or dark matter, or something relatable IRL, but in SW universe. It's possible maybe, that its not a emmission of heat even, since no one seems to sweat or complain about being near a light-saber, the hilt would even burn their hands if it was heat alone, especially a non force wielder using the dark saber. It could be argued that what ever particles is concentrated in a dark saber creates more of a physical reaction when it contacts other solids by increasing their natural vibration frequencies or something of the like. I noticed that too, but didn't think to make the connection with asoka tano fight. nice
Don't lightsabers have a magnetic field around them to keep the blade focused? If so then it would make sense that it also traps the heat from the blades, that would be the reason why no one expresses any discomfort from a lightsabers ambient temperature
Could just be that the crystal focuses the blade with the force.
Dark matter is not the absence of light. Our educational system sucks.
@@Christobanistan You really expect our educational system to teach about dark matter. lmfao
Or it could just be the fact that Gideon held the Darksaber on the beskar spear for a longer time, so the longer heat is put on the spear, it will eventually start to flow as metal conducts heat. The longer metal is exposed to heat, the hotter and softer it becomes, Gideon and Mando clashed blades for a longer time so the contact was longer meaning the Darksaber heated the spear up more due to the longer contact, where as Ahsoka was hitting the Spear for less amounts of time and dint hold he lightsabers on the spear meaning it did not heat the blade up as much do to the less amount of time it was on the spear.
I don’t think so because Gideon and Mando had the weapons clash in contact much longer. When Ahsoka had her duel, her strikes were fast and she used her skills to not get into a saber clash. She never held her lightsabers in contact with the staff for that long, unlike the Gideon/Mando battle.
Didn't we learn in Rebels with Sabine training that the Darksaber gets more powerful through the emotions of the wielder?

Well the Dark Saber being the lightsaber of the one and only mandalorian Jedi, it is only natural that he designed his saber to combat bescar as well. The fact that mandalorians of old times wore bescar much more commonly supports this fact.

I just rewatched the fight.
I think the conclusion is right it's just the severity of which is completely off. The dark saber does have slightly more " striking force/focused energy output" but not nearly as much as this video is hyping it.
It could literally just be a simple as the beskar staff heated up because the dark saber made contact with that one area for a longer period of time. This results in more energy transfer to it heating it up and weakening the staff.
It has to do with time, not necessarily power output.
this... as well as the blade shape causing more energy to be focused in a small are combined with the longer it sits against the beskar spear.

I think that there are two things that are worth mentioning here that serves to explain why the Darksaber could do visible damage to the beskar spear. One, I think all light sabers are capable of doing what we see the Moff do; all lightsabers have the ability to be used in phases, meaning that you can make the blade different lengths or widths. Dooku used this ability to vary his blade length to keep combatants guessing when he would go in for different strikes. Qui’gon Jin used this ability to cut through blastdoors in the phantom menace. But the second thing that makes the darksaber ideal for cutting through beskar is that it’s shape is more pointed, more thinly focused. Try cutting a 2X4 with a baseball bat vs using a saw, for example. Yeah the bat is going to do the job, eventually, but only with huge amounts of force put behind it. Whereas a saw can do it faster and with less energy. So, I submit that the darksaber is a) turned up to 11 at all times, unlike most lightsabers that only do that on occasion, and b) that it is shaped correctly for the task at hand. I feel like any other Jedi could have accomplished the same feat we see the Moff pull off, but the Jedi would have to know just how to tinker with the beam emitter to achieve a thin, but broad blade shape and how best to regulate the phasing of the beam so that it would consistently burn that hot. Now, I will add that I think where the darksaber might be unique is that it’s crystal is probably just more uniquely capable of burning that bright for extended periods of time, whereas a normal crystal might crack under the strain-should they turn it up that high and leave it on like that. I seem to recall other times where Jedis have used their lightsabers as cutting torches and they specifically said something about taking turns in order to prevent burn out of the crystals. I could be wrong, but I seem to recall this detail from somewhere. Either way, I think that Vizla probably knew how to balance those two properties in order to make a good cutting tool and that is probably one of the things that caused him to fall out of favor with the order. A Jedi’s weapon, as I have come to understand it, should be a graceful and sort of blunt weapon-something akin to a force imbued stick. Rather than sharpened to a point like a knife. Of course that would be the modern interpretation of a lightsaber, because we all know that in the early days they used force imbued swords with actual cutting edges. But for my money, that is part of why we see lightsaber blades take on a more rounded shape, because they are trying to make something less threatening than a thin beam of light that can slice through anything. Though, a good counter argument to that would be that the roundness just means you don’t have to worry about catching the opponent’s blade edge at just the right angle, too. So, who knows.
Would it be funny is Dave defilino and Jon just wanted to add a cool heating affect and didn’t think much of it and would make multiple video useless wouldn’t that be funny

I would guess that the Darksaber has a more powerful blade due to the fact that it isn’t omnidirectional like the classic lightsaber. I would guess that the flat shape of the blade means more energy is focused on the edge of the saber, thus heating the Beskar as we see it do.

Idk, incandescence and melting aren’t the same thing, and especially with fantasy metals. As for whether that would even make it more useful I’m still doubtful regarding a broad application, I don’t think it would be anymore useful to darth Vader for example because the only thing it could cut that he couldn’t is beskar and he wouldn’t need to because he could use the force just like we saw Luke do. It’s a cool weapon but ultimately not all that more functionally different because the only specific scenario where if debatably has an advantage is one easily circumvented by the force.
I agree on your first point, I don't think the darksaber can melt or really damage beskar In any meaningful way, just heat it up. The one use for that would be if someone is completely encased in beskar armour, you heat up their armour to burn them through it, though I personally think it's just artistic flair and the darksaber isn't actually any more powerful than a traditional saber.
Luke never crushed Beskar, I doubt it could be *crushed* by the Force, even by Vader. But Beskar ultimately isn't going to stop a Master level force user even if they couldn't crush it. Beskar was more for when Mandalorian's fought Jedi who relied on physical ability, before they were mostly space monks.

If I remember correctly, lightsaber’s cutting potential depends on user . Exar Kun struggled against beskar first. But after using force with his lightsaber he managed to cut it. I think Quigon also enhanced his lightsaber with force to cut through blast door. Ancient Sith Lords used metal swords. But they were enhancing them with force. They were cutting through anything. In my opinion If Luke goes against beskar , beskar might resist at first blow. But I think it won’t see the end of second blow. Luke will simply enhance its cutting potential with force. On the other hand if user is strong enough , you can’t cut that person. Shan manage to stop a lightsaber with her bare hands...

Legends: am I a joke to you?
The Dark Sabre was definitely heating the metal, a different possibility, and one that from a metallurgical perspective seems just as likely is that the Beskar pike had recently been in an massive explosion that vapourized most of a starship, it may have been heated enough to absorb some other minerals from the wreckage or ash that it was later found in, altering its purity.Further proof could shown by the fact that it didn’t heat Din’s armour in the same way.
@ANUBHAV SHARMA there are at least 2 points in that fight where Din uses the armour for a sustained block for a length that heats the pike.
@ANUBHAV SHARMA why do you talk like that?
when kanan was training sabine, he mentioned that the darksaber is "old, heavy, but powerfull" i like to think because of how old the darksber is, it doesnt have the same control over the amount of energy flowing through it, so it is constantly at max power. because of this it is always directing all of its energy into its attacks making it able to heat up pure beskar
He also said that the force doesn’t flow through it like a normal saber so Jedi are better off using normal saber crystals or something like that

Carl Jessup no like I mean the darksaber is more powerful than a lightsaber
The dark saber isn’t more powerful than a light saber. It’s been stated multiple times that if the dark saber ever were to contact a light saber on its sharp side (just like a normal sword), it could be cut in half. The difference between the two is like a metal straw and a knife. If you were cutting meat, a metal straw wouldn’t do anything. All you could do is slap the meat, maybe cut a hole in it, but that’s it. The knife however can cut through the meat. What’s happening with the dark saber in that fight scene is a similar instance. Same thing with the fight scene Ahsoka had. When Ahsoka’s blades touch the beskar, all it does is slide around. This is why beskar is so special. Tarre Vizsla (in my humble opinion) probably wanted to make a lightsaber that he could use to defeat any of his Mandalorian brothers if he needed to do so, hence the unique design.
There is actually lore to explain this.
Apparently saber hilts could be edited so they wern't cylinders but instead more sword like.
So this removes the ability for a saber to cut anything in 360° around it but instead it can cut more easily in the directions it is sharper i.e the more curved side of the blade but cant cut as easily in the other directions so the dark saber can cut bascar on that 1 side but will not do that on other angles meaning that it is actually weaker than most other sabers there is actually a more europian longsword like saber.
I think that Moff Gideon was trying to find a way to take the midiclorians from Grogu's blood to infuse his own blood and so now have access to the force along with the Darksaber. I think Din will be the one infused by mistake, thus making him able to be trained by Grogu after Grogu is trained by Luke.
The moment I saw the beskar staff overheating I was like “ Mando you better move that staff in another position if you don't want it to break" 🤣😤
Wasn’t it also mentioned that the Dark Saber is also powered even more by the users hate and anger?
Star wars back on track to possible glory once more.
I disagree. There has always been an argument over the strength between nature crystals vs synthetic. Asoka's lightsabers are white because they are cleansed crystals from a siths lightsaber that she previously defeated, meaning they are synthetic crystals. Im not saying that the dark Saber isn't more powerful, I am just saying that this does not prove it. A lightsaber made with a natural crystal could do the same thing.
Synthetic crystals are legends material, they were made fully with sith alchemy and *thats* why they're synthetic. Canon crystals take on the color of their wielders aura in the force, and red crystals are natural ones that were forced to "bleed" (i.e. forced into submission to the dark side/a particular sith). Ahsoka's crystals were bled crystals that have been healed, they weren't made by anyone, so they're not synthetic.
^^ This, this I agree. And it just opens a brand new can of what a Bled/Red Lightsaber, an unstable lightsaber's effect could do to Beskar.
Fairly certain that that's legends now. The method of obtaining a red kyber crystal is done through the corruption of a natural crystal through the process of bleeding. That would mean that Ahsoka is using natural kyber crystals that were purified of the taint from dark side users.

In Rebels Kanaan explained to Sabine that the Darksaber becomes stronger with the more anger and control you wield it. In this sense I think it's perfectly understandable, because Moff Gideon is trying to save his life, along with everything he accomplished and he's ready to give his all in this fight. The blade simply channels his inner strife, making it superiorly powerful.
"This proves if you plan something, works". middle finger to something i guess?
it works until the outsider shows up. that which lies ahead does not yet exist
I imagine a lightsaber could do the same thing with time. It's cool to see that the Darksaber is more powerful. It makes a lot of sense since it was made by a Mandalorian, he probably wanted to make it as powerful as possible.
He probably made it specifically so he could more reliably best his less-enlightened fellows in combat, if necessary, _without_ having to use the Force; after all, Mandalorians don't respect people who can't beat them in fair combat. I don't think the crystal itself is more powerful, though it does have interesting properties. Rather, I think the shape of the blade itself is what makes it better at cutting though Beskar; all of the energy of a normal cylindrical lightsaber blade being compressed into a near-planar shape would raise the energy-density, and thus the temperature. Technically, this means that _any_ lightsaber crystal could produce a blade capable of cutting like the Darksaber if the sheath containing the energy was shaped the same way; the obvious intent of such a blade, however, is as a weapon of war rather than a symbol of office and a tool of defense, hence why that style of lightsaber blade fell out of favor with the Jedi long ago.

Omg I'm this early?! Wow! I love your channel so much!
Okay, the reason why the Darksaber heats up the spear is because it’s edge is a whole sharper, making it able to put more pressure on a specific point, rather than a specific area like a normal lightsaber.
A good example would be trying to cut a piece of food with a flat part of the knife.
What works better? The sharp area or the flat area?
See what I mean? It’s just like that here.
No
Not sure if we can apply edges to "laser swords"...but let say we can. It's possible that more "energy" is focused on the "edge". That could also mean that the Dark Saber is bad at cutting with any part other than the edge where a normal light saber has a unidirectional cutting range. I rather like this idea as it gives an actual reason for a "blade" shaped with pros and cons.
@@dtester the energy would be more focused at the blade’s sharp edge his explanation is just common sense
