Ahsoka was 14 when she became a commander in the Clone wars, maybe Bo-katan was 20 or so years during that time, then she is 48 or 49 in The Mandalorian
Yeah it totaly does make sense and in star wars galaxy where genetic modification is as advanced as it is it’s not really a miracle that she looks young even if she were older
@@reececowell6642 - There are plenty of examples but it is usually a case of a live action appearance occurring first, and not the other way around. Some Star Wars examples include Anthony Daniels (Droids, Clone Wars movie and series, Rebels), Sam Jackson and Christopher Lee (Clone Wars movie) and Ian McDiarmid, Forest Whitaker, Genevieve O'Reilly and Billy Dee Williams (all in Rebels). Sam Witwer, James Earl Jones and Frank Oz have all voiced the same character in both live action and animation. Outside of Star Wars, I know that Adam West and Burt Ward voiced their Batman and Robin characters in several animated iterations (Flimation, Hanna-Barbera and DC Animated) between the live action TV series and Adam West's passing. And most of the original casts from Star Trek and Gilligan's Island (Gilligan's Planet) and Brady Bunch (Brady Kids) did the voices in their animated versions for Filmation.
@Mike V he did mainly voice acting through season one lol. This season introduces mandolorians removing helmets....leading the way for him to. And we are almost at the halfway mark of this season and he has been the main focus thus far....jesus ppl are silly
THey're TWO DIFFERENT types of Mando'ade thata they're showing. Death Watch are the genocidal faction that true Mandalorians dispise but Season 0ne and even TCW made them the liked ones. All Mandalorians fromTCW, Rebels, and this show are nothing but dar'manda
Just imagine Din meeting Sabine and seeing her graffiti armor, at first he'd say things like "you're no mandalorian" and stuff, at the end of the episode we find a baby yoda graffiti on Din's shoulder piece...
painted armor dosnt seem to be that out of place for any Mandalorian though, It be pretty cool if Dim gets his first armor paint job from Sabine though, as right now he just rocks the chrome look.
@@UnderdogSMO it's not about the painting itself, it's about how often Sabine changes it and how she use something Din would take for sacred as a mere canvas to express herself, I feel that he'd take it as disrespectful in his dogmatic point of view.
@@pcrocomo It would be very out of character. Even teenager Sabine is a proper Mandalorian and understands what armor means. Doing something to someone's armor without asking for permission is actually disrespectful for any Mandalorian, extremist or no. Older, wiser Sabine is even less likely to do something like this.
@@Strongpoint_S I never said Sabine would do that with permission and also the show isn't about her, it's about Dim, my idea is he'd be commissioning Sabine to customise his blanc armor, a bit of Dim personality on a basic Mandalorian stereotype figure, the counterpart of him accepting the Mudhorn badge from season 1. Also, the idea of "was Sabine being disrespectful and painted his armor without permission?" seems also a nice idea, we know Sabine, remember Kanan Stormtrooper helmet and that Tiefighter, she'd be thrilled with the idea of a fresh build beskar armor ready for a new paint job. I can just see the scene, after all the episode stuff, Mando got heavy damage in his armor, the armor is fixed and he is saying his goodbye to Sabine and some other character, the other character noticed something on Mando and look at Sabine for answers, she smile, we see Mando in his cockpit with a Baby Yoda graffiti on his shoulder. Holly crap, imagine that being the end of the show, after all the Mandalorian reunited to find Baby Yoda species and now Din is a better person, a better Mandalorian, finding his own way, he's finally home but he's alone.
@@UnderdogSMO Filoni and Favereau wiped out the idea of color scheme and colors of armor meaning ANYTHING in this reboot of the franchise...if they add it they'll be trying to do fan service to bring the die hard fans like me back
What I loved about the episode was how succinctly they summed up her character, and introduced her to new audiences. A warrior-princess seeking an heirloom to claim a lost throne; simple. All this was explained, for the most, in action, not long reams of exposition and flashbacks, and most importantly, without needing previous knowledge of her character. My wife hasn't watched one single episode of Clone Wars or Rebels, but as soon as Bo-Katan showed up and kicked Quarren and Imperial ass, she was instantly her favourite character. All she asked was, "What's the Dark Sabre?" (I answered, "Mandalor's Excalibur," and she got it).
From a fan perspective I'm elated, but some of the most interesting conversations I'm having are actually with friends who're more casual lovers of the show. We all know that the charater comes with this mountain of backstory and storyline ties, but the impressions of people who've NEVER heard of the character is telling me a lot about how carefully Dave and Jon are drawing people in while keeping the diehard horde ecstatic. That's quite a trick. To us, she's hours and hours of story, but to them, in one epsidoe she's still: Obviously a leader who inpsires absolute loyalty A person who is utterly deadly in combat Someone who used to own the Darksaber Represents a different kind of Mandalorian than they've seen in Fett and Djarin Has some kind of awarensss / connection to surviving Jedi To get all that so perfectly down in a new viewer, and to hook them so perfectly to a character, is no mean feat, and yet Bryce, Katee, Dave and Jon achieved it seamlessly without using overly broad strokes or sacrificing any of the detail long time fans could enthuse about and appreicaite. I'd referred to the Creative team as performing a perfect balancing act before, but honestly it's getting so good right now, it's less of simple balacing and more Cirque de Soleil. Still insanely happy they brought in Sam (Extraction) Hargrave for second unit action, the fight choreography flourishes are superb, nd I'm sure his directorial episode is going to be incredible.
Agreed. I am absolutely new to the SW world, and i've been hooked on The Mandalorian since season 1. I haven't watched TCW or Rebels yet, so my only impression of Bo-Katan is from Chapter 11. And I saw a fallen leader, who knows that sometimes you have to breach your own code of honor in order to survive or reach your bigger goal, but still has some moral sense. And as a huge Battlestar Galactica fan, I was thrilled to know that Katee Sackhoff would play the part, and she is awesome as usual. I really love her portraying strong, morally conflicted fighters and leaders.
that hiss sound when Bo-Katan removes her helmet kind of indicate the thing has some life-support system. The Mando has to get one of those upgrades next. He almost drowned trying to save baby yoda suggesting his helmet is just that a helmet.
Wouldn't say life support. Helmets don't breathe for you. It's more a closed ventilation unit or cycles air for better breathing. Think Darth Vader's helmet
@@kingofallworlds I thought it was just like the ones the clone troopers use in the clone wars. They could operate in space and in this case underwater.
Like the addition of Cobb Vanth, not only is everything important, but it's like opening doors to all the other stories and characters. Still hoping for Acolytes of the Beyond and the search for Ezra...and mystic stuff.
Underfold Comics Filoni said the same thing months ago when ask about The Mandalorian season 2. It's time to open doors for other characters who've been waiting in the door far too long.
@@djacb8877 Then you've got Obi Wan aging from Ewan Mcgregor(33 years old in 2005) to Alec Guinness(63 in 1977) 30 years in 19 'in universe years" Space years are just different ok? It depends on the gravitation fields from the stellar bodies near you. I'm guessing the multiple suns near Tatooine cause some fun time dilation. Maybe Bo-Katan was pirating near a black hole for a few years (a la Interstellar) Edit: realizing this is about Star Wars and is likely to be taken way too seriously, I just wanted to clarify that I'm mostly kidding. I'm also in the "who cares" camp.
I hope we see boba Fett interact not only with Din but also Bo-Katan. It would be cool since from what I remember Disney changing most Mandalorian didn’t consider Jango or Boba Fett real Mandalorians.
this could be another take on what it means to be mandalorian and have a bunch of clashing ideologies which would be fun to watch din navigate that. One wish I hope to see is a non human mando.
Considering that they are planning not only an Ahsoka series but a Boba Fett Series as well we will see Boba Fett interacting with Din this season and may even go from being an antagonist at first to a protagonist by the end of the season.
i love how they're writing Din, he represents us in a way, submerged in the world of starwars, but at the same time, completely unware. this is great for story telling, as Din learns more about the universe, so do us! Dave is doing a great job and how he wasnt approached to write the new movie trilogy is mind boggling.
I know in some of the old EU some Mandalorians started to get into genetic modifications, faster healing, slower aging, stronger muscles and bones. Many Mandos where probably on par with Captain America when compared to their other human counterparts in the star wars galaxy.
Here's a theory: Since we know Asoka is about to show up, and she knows about the "World between Worlds" she will take baby Yoda the only place he'll be safe, which is the past. So, baby Yoda IS Yoda. Asoka accompanies him, which is why she's not around during the fight with the first order. That is why the Imperial remnant is so desperate to get baby Yoda, because (somehow) they know if they do the Empire would never fall in the first place.
I really like this theory, and it be quite cool to see it play through, but at the same time I’d like the canon to explore the possibility of Ashoka creating her own Order away from Luke’s and the sequels or maybe even relate it to Mortis, and to give the Yoda especies and their connection to the force more depth by giving us different individuals apart from Yoda himself.
Patriot Point great theory, but I feel that doorway into World Between Worlds is closed at least the one depicted in Rebel's. If this was true that means Ahsoka's history in Her current time line would cease to exist. Both Yoda and Ahsoka would be in High Republic timeline, but like u said Yoda's in His time line perfectly ending in ROTJ. If Ahsoka dropped Him off 900 yrs ago She would have to access the WBW again & return to Her Mandalorian present time line akin to Back to the Future. She still needs to rescue Erza unless She already has, I hope. Anyways best theory I heard in a while. bless
This is a trippy theory, similar to a reverse Terminator. However I doubt Asoka will take baby Yoda so quick, as then the show ends. This ignores the issue of introducing more time travel things get more confusing for everyone. Trippy, yes. Plausible, no.
Brilliantly said, Alex. At the beginning of the series, I had the mindset of Din Djarin eventhough I, like so many others, had watched THE CLONE WARS and REBELS before. I'm so happy for Bo-Katan Kryze in THE MANDALORIAN
@@davidty2006 Which is kinda dumb cause Rebels is better the CW in some ways (character development, story) and TCW is better in other aspects (action, animation)
I looked it up out of curiosity and it seems that Children of the Watch and Death Watch are actually seperate from one another. By that I mean I don't think the children are a splinter group of death watch but a seperate group all on their own. It seems that they are an older faction that left mandalore a long time ago way before death watch was even a thing. Din and Bo's differing thoughts makes the idea make sense. From following the clone wars we know what Bo and Death Watch are all about. They want to take over Mandalore which had greatly changed in government and way of life to become a pacafistic place. Death Watch was aginast that change and wanted to things back as it once was while the children of the watch seemingly don't give a crap about Mandalore and the way things are run there. The children seem to have entirely written off their original home altogether and no longer care about their planet and people. They don't want revenge and power like Bo and death watch want. They are fine with being seperate all over the galaxy living life as bounty hunters who never take off their armor. Emphasis on the bounty hunter part as Din was pissed in that episode when Bo changed their original deal.
I feel like, after maul beat Vizsla, they changed Bo-Katan's model to be a bit softer in the face. It felt like early on there were more hard lines in her model... I might be crazy though.
It might also be part of character design. A way to show someone who has grown and is no longer always angry inside. (But I do agree with the change in animation style too)
Well that was the case with everyone. As the series went on, the animation got cleaner and nicer looking. They slowly toned down the huge, bug-like eyes and exaggerated facial details for a more “realistic” type look. Compare the clone model from season 1 or the movie to the season 7 clones, it’s insane.
Fans are worried about Bo Katan's age and look between TCW and the Mandalorian... Do remember that Obi-Wan turned from Ewan Mcgregor to Alec Guinness in the span of just fifteen plus years
Would General Grievous count as the next? He was animated, first appeared in Clone Wars (Cartoon Network).... but then in Revenge of the Sith he's still an animated character...
Technically not true. Even though we see Boba in the animated series, as well as Attack of the Clones, the same could be said for Obi-Wan, Yoda and Anakin.
@IRONHILLdwarf * I agree. I just used JLo as she's the first that came to mind when talking abt someone who looks nothing like her/his age. Paul Rudd is also a good example.
JLO has had WORK done here in the Earthly way to look young. So we're saying MORE Earth ways are working into Star Wars again? I mean a SPACE opera still using cranes at space ports to lift ships instead of tractor beams or boats on the actual water when Star Wars always had hover boats. Its like Favereau is trying to do a Firefly version of Star Wars
@@Mandalorian_of_Christ If that ‘Earthly’ way is working out and healthy diet, I’m pretty sure Bo-Katan could probably do it as well, I mean she is a human after all. I guess when it comes to technology, I think we all gonna have to do some head canonning and believe that the technology is not spread widely enough for the planet to receive such advancements. Maybe they do have hovering technologies but those squid heads were always planning to drown Mando in the first place to take his Beskar armor.
Not only that but there's what, like 30 years between The Clone Wars and the Mandalorian? So if she's 18-20 during the Clone Wars, she's 48-50 or so during the Mandalorian, and that's not that far off her actual age. Some people just look younger too.
One thing people some to under estimate is that the "humans" in the star wars universe can and SHOULD differ to humans in our little corner of the galaxy, due to exposure to different environmental effects etc. Aging is one of those things that can be done in a relatable sense or in the sci fi sense. After all, humans in star trek age differently due to better medical technology.
I love how Bo-Katan was pretty much looking at Mando like awww aren't you a cute little Mandalorian the entire episode. Kept waiting for her to pat his helmet. Great actress the sarcasm was on point.
And sometimes it’s genetics play that role too. That’s why it’s really common to see older black and Asian people look younger than their age. Even people who have ginger hair have some youthful gene in them. Ofc, Bo Katan(the character not the actress) has ginger hair, so that kinda gave it away.
THECRB15 my Mom's an 80 yr old Asian women and She looks 20 yrs younger according to people who surprisingly discover She's much older. It's all about those genes I guess. People's reaction is like "your lying" unfortunately I took more after my Dad and my hairline isn't looking that good these days.
0:32 Saw Gerera isn't the first animated character to go to live action. That title goes to Bobba Fett as he was first seen in the 1978 Holiday Special.
Seeing her armor in live-action is kinda trippy since I'm used to seeing it only in the animated series. They REALLY did a good job with her appearance in the live-action.
It’s very cool that Katee got to play this part. It’s rare for voice over folks to play live action. She also had the advantage of being a live action actor before in multiple shows. Most VO folks don’t do that.
Can we also talk about how freaking exceptional Bryce Dallas Howard has been as a Director in this series? She's done excellent work in both episodes she's directed so far.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate what a massive amount of respect for as well as as knowledge of the extended Star Wars lore Favreau and the others must have? Just imagine how different things might have been if them those people had been in charge of rhe sequels...
I kind of love how Season 1 of this show presented a version of Mandalorians more in sync with the old Legends stories than the Mandalore we see when the former were "tossed aside" with Season 2 of "The Clone Wars" - leading to some pretty prominent authors who wrote about Mandalorians and Mandalore to quit the EU entirely. And then with Season 2, everything about what it means to be Mandalorian is challenged - presenting us with a more nuanced, difficult version of Mandalore a la "The Clone Wars" and "Rebels." But by framing this challenge to the viewers as a challenge to the protagonist Din, "The Mandalorian" approaches the question of what it means to be Mandalorian directly as the central theme of the show and lets the audience sit with this, rather than appearing to say to the readers/viewers of the EU "you're wrong, this is what Mandalore looks like and how Mandalorians act." "Your eyes can deceive you; don't trust them." "You're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view." Dave Filoni has spent his entire time as the heir apparent to Star Wars trying to tease out nuance and complicate and enrich the story of these movies. Just listen to him wax on about how important the Duel of Fates was to the fallen hero's journey of Anakin, and how that comes to a head with the ultimate pinnacle of the series as Luke throws away his lightsaber and refuses to kill his father, thus allowing Anakin to be the good father figure to Luke that he himself never got to have (after Qui-Gon was robbed from him). Dave - and Lucas mind you - wanted to complexify the story of Mandalore, and I believe they sought to use the Mandalorian society there as a miniature reflection of the broader conflicts explored in the prequels and to a greater extent in the "The Clone Wars." In the 2009-10 season, we weren't ready for a more complex Mandalore. We were still as Din was back in Chapter 4, unable to remove our helmets and let go of the things we fear to lose. Now, Satine Kryze, Bo-Katan Kryze, Sabine Wren, and Din Djarin have all shown us the different sort of heroes that Mandalore can bring. And I do believe that likewise, in his own way, Boba Fett may well be a Mandalorian, even if he was a clone of an unrelated bounty hunter (from Mandalorian colony planet Concord Dawn), who may have stolen his armour rather than inherited it like Sabine and Bo-Katan have. I'm sure now that Boba Fett will cross paths with Din Djarin, and once again challenge Din on what the armour and the Way of the Mandalore mean.
I'm nervous she gonna be a baddy. She wants the dark saber. Gideon wants baby yoda. She has access to baby Yoda. How badly does she wanna lead mandalore?
I don't think Bo Katan would go against Ahsoka if Ahsoka learns of the child. Also, at this point, Ahsoka and Sabine (the one who gave Bo Katan the dark saber) would know each other well as they went to find Ezra together. Sabine and Ahsoka should still be together at this point if they are still looking for Ezra unless they split up to get more information. I doubt Bo Katan would go against those two.
She was a baddy...in TCW she WAS allied with Death Watch and they're changing their lore now. Star Wars under Disney can't keep their own stories straight
@TheVerbal Hologram its not ersa wren, its koska reeves (sasha bank character). Ursa wren would be in krownest, i dont know if the great purge also happen in krownest, concordia, concord dawn, and mandalore
@@Mandalorian_of_Christ It's not "changing their lore now" or "can't keep their own stories straight" - it's called characters grow and change. Just because she WAS allied with Death Watch does not mean that decades later she can't see them as religious zealots and no longer agrees with what they have become or their ways. Characters and stories are not static, they evolve and change just like they do in real life. People need to grasp this concept that characters and their views can change, they aren't locked in one way forever.
Great video! I had no idea that Bo Katan, or KS was going to be in this episode, and it blew me away. I am so excited for this series more and more every episode. It's Pivotal that the Mandalorian meets others of his kind along the way, and I like that he seemingly cannot refuse a request for aid, even when it puts him in serious danger. He always has to make the hero move. It's amazing and he continues to earn the respect of those he interacts with (if he doesn't kill them first, or they don't try to kill him). Keep up the good work, and I can't wait to see what the Mando has in store for him next.
Regarding her appearance in contrast with her age: we don't know whether Mandalorians (proper ones that is) have a different ageing so hard to say (for reference see the Dunedain in LoTR who age much slower than "normal" humans) or some other reason (I believe Kix was frozen in carbonite and found much later although might be wrong on this one) Anyway it's good to see Bo in the Mandalorian, although I hope her introduction won't derail the overarching story of the series. After all the series is about Din and Baby Yoda's adventures, not Bo's quest to retake the Dark Saber and Mandalore.
It most likely won't "derail", at least this season. Bo herself probably won't be seen again until episode 7 of this new season. But the Dark Saber and Mandalore is a natural progression for the adventure at this point. The mando and baby adventures can't continue forever or else it'll felt very stale sooner or later (it has even felt stale for some people). Pretty visuals and baby being cute can only get you so far, it has to lead to something. Additionally, the Darksaber is an important artifact of the Mandalorian and is held by the series' main antagonist.
@@langletprolet8378 I completely agree but I'm not sure whether or not the Mandalorian as a series is best suited to deal with the Dark Saber and all that. At the end of the day the scope of this series is to set the stage by following a character which is detached from most of the developments in the SW universe and I don't know how much Din xould get involved without getting his protagonist role hijacked by much bigger characters (at least in the eyes of those who know the weight behind such names). May be worried for nothing because I don't know how many viewers have also watched TCW and Rebels
Yep, I don't really want to hear the age argument. There are so many actors and actresses in our world who look much younger than they actually are. Nobody has a problem with Tom Cruise, Paul Rudd, Jennifer Garner, John Stamos, Halle Berry, etc., all looking much younger than they actually are. And these are just a few celebrity examples.
fuckin Paul Rudd man he does not age whatsoever it seems. But yeah I agree some people just age better than others and thats pretty undeniable its not like she looks like shes a kid in this
To be fair. Celebrities wear makeup when they are out male or female. They have a tons of money for medicine and skin care regimens. So it makes sense that they look younger than they are
@@boxingdegenerate9077 sure, most females wear makeup, that goes without saying. Paul Rudd does not, as I'm sure most of the other males don't. Your argument implies makeup doesn't exist in Star Wars though, so on that merit alone it doesn't hold much water.
Katee Sackhoff is one of the most iconic Sci-Fi actors of all time. She hasn't just been a one-hit wonder, and she brings a passion to her characters that is incredible. This is the role that will make her more of a household name.
Given the length of time between clone wars and this series is it possible that Bo trained Korkie to lead, gave him the Darksaber and Gideon Of Clan Eldar challenged Korkie, Killed him, took the Draksaber, Joined the ISB and handed Mandalore over to the Empire?
I feel like the series might be hinting at him going head to head with Bo-Katan, and becoming the leader and wield the Dark Saber. I'm so happy that I found a channel that feels the same way about this!
Given the choice between any given 50 year old actress and Katee Sachoff herself, I'll take Katee every day and twice on Sunday. Had this gone the opposite way; I'm convinced for every one of the nay sayers online, there would have been 10 people saying they should have used Sachoff. I would have been one of them. Long live Starbuck!
Well Katee is 40 yo so its not that far off. Besides there are plenty of 50 yo women who look younger than their age. i.e. Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Lopez etc.
You said it all better than I could. I'm ecstatic that Dave is directing..maybe not the first we "see" of Ahsoka, but probably her true character debut!
This the first of your videos I've seen, and I am now subscribed! You made confusing Star Wars Canon easy to understand and pointed out subtle details in The Mandalorian that went unnoticed. Thank you!
Honestly i doubt Dinn would become the leader of Mandalore, and if he does, personally I wouldn’t like it :/ it’s like if by the end of the clone wars Ashoka replaced Yoda as the leader of the jedi, or if by the end of rebels Ezra became leader of the rebel alliance (ik that wouldn’t line up with the movies but still lol) It just feels like something thats for video games and movies, but in a show that shows a very personal journey with growth from the main character, i think it would just be forced. Like Bo-Katan is a natural leader and has been fighting for decades to lead her people again and free them from the empire’s oppression. I feel like he might get his hands on the darksaber but give it to Bo-Katan in the end, if he does. I think the best ending for him is finding his place in Mandalore and living among his people, living the life he wants instead of following the restrictions that were put on him. (Thanks whoever read this long ass paragraph lmao) also side note i feel like Bo’s second “this is the way” was also to make him feel more comfortable. She did call him a zealot in her first meeting, forgetting how it felt to break away from that cults teachings and beliefs. She realizes it’s a lot for him to take in and respects him enough in the end to leave him be on how he deals with it. Reminds me of real world stuff with cults and religious trauma, I’ve personally dealt with and it felt a little touching to me.
I really like Katee Sackhoff since her appearence in Battlestar Galactica. She became one of my favorite actresses even though i was shocked seeing her in "Another Life" (horrible show). It is cool to see her playing the great character Bo-Katan.
Did no body think that the mandalorians from season 1 where kinda like a cult even before season 2, I don't know why everybody seems shocked about this "revaltion"
@@AH-yu2pi but even if it was the mandalorian way it still feels like they are manipulating them from birth to be a weapon no matter who you are that is kinda suspisos
@@felixweinlinger I have zero background regarding Mandalorians. I thought Boba Fett was just a top tier Storm Trooper. I thought he was part of their special ops like a Ranger or a Seal. Therefore I thought Din Karin's culture or "way" was the Mandalorian's norm. I now realize that I saw 7 Star Wars movies. The first five then the first with Hailey and the Force Awakens. I got into The Mandalorian because Vikings was on hiatus and it's good. I have read comments for further insight.
Q&A: is mof Gideon the current ruler of Mandalor? We know non Mandalorians can rule (maul) and he has the dark saber. What if he controls a faction of Mandalorians loyal to the owner of the dark saber. Would make sense why Bo wants it back at all costs.
Also, this whole misconception that because we see humans in Star wars that they're exactly like our Earth base human. who is to say that she looks younger because mandalorians age differently than we do.
Is it me or the Mandalorian might end with the remergence of Mandalore, the Mandalorians and the reconciliation of the pacifist and warrior mindset into something closer to the Jedi but jetpacks and less self-righteousness? Edit: would be cool if we ended up seeing the Mandalorians gaining a more respected stature in the galaxy, where they are welcomed by common galaxy citizens rather than feared harbingers of war.
@@Major98 I'm rewatching clone wars and young Boba is a conflicted character. I think there's a chance that he starts as an antagonist, but goes through an arc and becomes an ally.
Ayla Secura was originally made for the comics and was transferred to live action in Attack of the Clones. She predates Saw, and Cobb. Also Boba Fett was created for a cartoon in the 1978 Holiday Special. He then made the transition to live action in TESB
The Indonesian version translates to “descendants of death watch” so not very clear still seems more that its an offshoot of death watch and not death watch itself.
A good way to explain her age Fennec Shan from season 1 was played by Ming-Na Wen who is 56 but doesn't look like it So sometimes the age people look may not always be true
Would be bad ass to do voice over and think nothing of it, next you come back in live action in the outfit your character was wearing in the animation series.
about the age thing, she is not human so don't assume she will age like a human and I always considered mandalorians to have a long lifespan in the SW canon
I am a serious Katee Sakoff fan...first as Starbuck in the 2nd version of Battlestar Galactica, then as Longmire's deputy, now as a Mandalorian. While she has had a long career, I have been sequestered for a long time (disabled) and I only know those parts...I am so happy she is in one of the best shows out there!
The age thing isn't much of a Problem. Look at Obi Wan, he looked older, so did Anakin. You can easily explain this with life circumstances. Obi lived on a desert planet, the sun aged him well, Anakin has aged enormously under that Amor and suffering from all those wounds (except for the Force Ghost, which would tell a different story, but that was altered by Lucas himself by inserting Hayden later). Bo was living and fighting on Mandalore, in domed cities AND some people age less than others.
I love Bo-Katan's inclusion in the show. As someone who's watched TCW and Rebels, it's so satisfying to see a character from the animation make the transition to live action. I'm also happy that she's still alive. After we learned Gideon had the Darksaber, I was genuinely worried what that meant for Bo-Katan. Was she killed in battle and that's how she lost the blade? I'm glad that's not the case and now she's on a search to take the saber back. And I think it's important to remember that the Darksaber isn't just a symbol for the Mandalorian people, it's also the weapon Maul used to kill her sister, Satine. So for Bo-Katan, that's as personal as it gets, beyond the fate of her people and I think that accounts for why she was so aggressive on the mission. I think she's genuinely not the same person she was when she joined Death Watch. We see her fight alongside Jedi like Ahsoka and Ezra in battle when Mandalorians are ancient enemies of the Jedi. She's changed but she's still a warrior at heart. It's hard to switch that off, especially given the stakes at play here.
Awesome episode! I'm really loving the fact that Lucasfilm is taking characters introduced in another media form and bringing them into live action. First Cobb Vanth and now Bo-Katan Kryze! Hopefully it continues! And may I say that Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan is just freakin gorgeous and badass 🤘🤘😍
Theory: Bo-Katan was captured at some point and imprisoned in carbonite, cryo-stasis, or some other suspended state for a few years during which she didn't age. We already know that such technology existed at least as far back as the clone wars since the lost treasure of Count Dooku was a suspended clone.

@@theaarongarcia Yea that part is confusing to me because I never completed the animated series, but what I can recall ... they weren't religious zealots at all .... they just weren't pacifists. They always took their helmets off.
@@theaarongarcia I know that's what I said. Satine Kryze ruled the mandolrians and during her reign she instilled the practice of pacifism. Which indicates, to me, that although Death Watch saved Din Djarin, the group he is with now, is likely a splinter group of radicals.

painted armor dosnt seem to be that out of place for any Mandalorian though, It be pretty cool if Dim gets his first armor paint job from Sabine though, as right now he just rocks the chrome look.

I think I'm going to steal that excellent description of the Dark Sabre :D
From a fan perspective I'm elated, but some of the most interesting conversations I'm having are actually with friends who're more casual lovers of the show. We all know that the charater comes with this mountain of backstory and storyline ties, but the impressions of people who've NEVER heard of the character is telling me a lot about how carefully Dave and Jon are drawing people in while keeping the diehard horde ecstatic.
That's quite a trick.
To us, she's hours and hours of story, but to them, in one epsidoe she's still:
Obviously a leader who inpsires absolute loyalty
A person who is utterly deadly in combat
Someone who used to own the Darksaber
Represents a different kind of Mandalorian than they've seen in Fett and Djarin
Has some kind of awarensss / connection to surviving Jedi
To get all that so perfectly down in a new viewer, and to hook them so perfectly to a character, is no mean feat, and yet Bryce, Katee, Dave and Jon achieved it seamlessly without using overly broad strokes or sacrificing any of the detail long time fans could enthuse about and appreicaite.

Some age like fine wine, others like milk.

Bruh..this theory is lit

It seems like Children of the Watch is a faction that was formed from the remnants of Death Watch but it is not the same as Death Watch.
I think that has more to do with the animation style. Rebels was softer animation than Clone Wars.
Compare the clone model from season 1 or the movie to the season 7 clones, it’s insane.

or maybe katee sackhoff is 40, and bo katan is supposed to be in her 40s... its close enough. its a galaxy far far away ffs

And sometimes it’s genetics play that role too. That’s why it’s really common to see older black and Asian people look younger than their age. Even people who have ginger hair have some youthful gene in them. Ofc, Bo Katan(the character not the actress) has ginger hair, so that kinda gave it away.

Love how the Mandalorian series is bringing in characters from books and animated series to live action!
Who came a book?
I kind of love how Season 1 of this show presented a version of Mandalorians more in sync with the old Legends stories than the Mandalore we see when the former were "tossed aside" with Season 2 of "The Clone Wars" - leading to some pretty prominent authors who wrote about Mandalorians and Mandalore to quit the EU entirely. And then with Season 2, everything about what it means to be Mandalorian is challenged - presenting us with a more nuanced, difficult version of Mandalore a la "The Clone Wars" and "Rebels." But by framing this challenge to the viewers as a challenge to the protagonist Din, "The Mandalorian" approaches the question of what it means to be Mandalorian directly as the central theme of the show and lets the audience sit with this, rather than appearing to say to the readers/viewers of the EU "you're wrong, this is what Mandalore looks like and how Mandalorians act."
"Your eyes can deceive you; don't trust them."
"You're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view."
Dave Filoni has spent his entire time as the heir apparent to Star Wars trying to tease out nuance and complicate and enrich the story of these movies. Dave - and Lucas mind you - wanted to complexify the story of Mandalore, and I believe they sought to use the Mandalorian society there as a miniature reflection of the broader conflicts explored in the prequels and to a greater extent in the "The Clone Wars."
In the 2009-10 season, we weren't ready for a more complex Mandalore.
I don't think she could forgive Moff Gideon for the purge, but who knows, she has also burned down innocent villages.
Regarding her appearance in contrast with her age: we don't know whether Mandalorians (proper ones that is) have a different ageing so hard to say (for reference see the Dunedain in LoTR who age much slower than "normal" humans) or some other reason (I believe Kix was frozen in carbonite and found much later although might be wrong on this one)
Anyway it's good to see Bo in the Mandalorian, although I hope her introduction won't derail the overarching story of the series.
Love that she’s here & im glad you’re stating it’s due to not only advance for the story but for Din learning about the culture he loves so much

Calling it right now. Sabine Wren will probably join the likes of Cobb Vanth and Bo-Katan in live action.
@RobC Oops. That’s who I meant. Thanks for the correction.
Her introduction was everything I could've hoped for. I can't wait to see more of her!!
But yeah I agree some people just age better than others and thats pretty undeniable its not like she looks like shes a kid in this
Also Keanu Reeves and Jared Leto
This casting is hands down the best casting John And Dave done so far. Katee is 100% perfect for this role.
Katee Sackhoff didnt need a wig
and
Bo Katan is smiling more in live action :) Shes getting happier in her "Old" Age.
Had this gone the opposite way;
I'm convinced for every one of the nay sayers online, there would have been 10 people saying they should have used Sachoff. I would have been one of them. Long live Starbuck!
Well Katee is 40 yo so its not that far off. Besides there are plenty of 50 yo women who look younger than their age. i.e. Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Lopez etc.
Sackhoff, not Sachoff.
You said it all better than I could. I'm ecstatic that Dave is directing..maybe not the first we "see" of Ahsoka, but probably her true character debut!
Din is going to lose his mind when he meets Boba Fett and finds out he is a clone
lol
I did not. I saw it as the Mandalorian way. However I only watched the first 5 movies and nothing else.
@@AH-yu2pi ok
@@AH-yu2pi Funny thing is that Boba Fett was originally going to be just a top tier stormtrooper with a white colored version of his armor lol
This video was not only informative, but very well narrated and put together. Thank you!
Just imagine for a second Boba, dinn, bo and Sabine all together at some point to take back mandalore 💯💯💯
Thanks for these! Went back and re-read the Aftermath trilogy because of your content. Good to have the citations, too, much appreciated.
next gon' be : "Why Ahsoka is important to The Mandalorian" 😂
Loved your breakdown of this episode that introduced Bo Katan Kryce and cliff notes especially the part on Bo’s age. I totally agree!
Him taking off his helmet to save grogu shows real character growth
Imagine seeing Boba Fett helping Bo Katan
Yup, I think the Mandalorian is going to end up being a team-up of every Mando you ever heard of.
Im predicting the opposite. Boba Fett will be a baddie, either after Gideon or alongside Gideon.
@@Major98 I'm rewatching clone wars and young Boba is a conflicted character. I think there's a chance that he starts as an antagonist, but goes through an arc and becomes an ally.
@@TheTinManTJ He's more conflicted than Bo-Katan is about burning villages and in unfinished episode protects innocent people from Cad Bane
That was one of their best episodes and Bo-Katan and friends are the most badass fighters we’ve seen in the series. More Bo-Katan!
For people that have problems with her "age", stop thinking anything in a fantasy universe lives by our rules.
Yeah same think with thinks like gravity etc.
Ayla Secura was originally made for the comics and was transferred to live action in Attack of the Clones. She predates Saw, and Cobb.
Also Boba Fett was created for a cartoon in the 1978 Holiday Special. He then made the transition to live action in TESB
possible teeny spoilers
In French Bo-Katan doesn't say "children of the watch", but rather "children of deathwatch", if there was still any doubt...
The Indonesian version translates to “descendants of death watch” so not very clear still seems more that its an offshoot of death watch and not death watch itself.
@@soraisfinallyhere1305 that's the only way I see it
A good way to explain her age
Fennec Shan from season 1 was played by Ming-Na Wen who is 56 but doesn't look like it
So sometimes the age people look may not always be true
Would be bad ass to do voice over and think nothing of it, next you come back in live action in the outfit your character was wearing in the animation series.
I was just waiting for her to say “Frackin Toasters”
about the age thing, she is not human so don't assume she will age like a human and I always considered mandalorians to have a long lifespan in the SW canon
She is human lol
She’s human dipass
We’re Earthlings and we’re also human. Mandalorian isn’t a people, it’s a creed or whatever
Well the show is called the mandalorian period it could be that it's not about a mandalorian it's about the mandalorian leadership or a title
@King Sugma III I guess you're right.
Such a special action-pack episode.
I think the dark saber, cuts, Bo-Katans age some several years.
I am tired of seeing mandalore liberated. Maybe they’ll find a new place.
People probably live longer in Star Wars anyways. Palpatine is an example of this.
That shot of them flying away as the ship explodes, is Stunning!!’
It's hard to switch that off, especially given the stakes at play here.
iceberg great comment, facts!
I was surprisingly surprised when Bo-Katan removed her helmet. I said out loud "that's Bo-Katan!", before she said her name. I can't wait to see how this season plays out.
Rian Johnson: *Don't question characters inconsistency!*
Fans: *How dare you?*
Dave Filoni: *These aren't important inconsistencies you're looking for.*
Fans: *Yes Daddy.*
I was curious about the age thing too, but it doesn't matter because she looks awesome and I'm glad she made it to live action.
Why would she be open to mando? She thinks he is a cult member
She's trying to flip him and he has already budged slightly. When she said "This is the way" he hesitantly agreed.
She was a cult member too.
@@theaarongarcia Yea that part is confusing to me because I never completed the animated series, but what I can recall ... they weren't religious zealots at all .... they just weren't pacifists. They always took their helmets off.
@@ib8628 Death Watch were not pacifist.
@@theaarongarcia I know that's what I said. Satine Kryze ruled the mandolrians and during her reign she instilled the practice of pacifism. Death Watch rebelled against this creed and believed in a militaristic society. BUT, they still did not come off as zealots to me. Which indicates, to me, that although Death Watch saved Din Djarin, the group he is with now, is likely a splinter group of radicals.
Bo is an always will be special! she is an amazing character and I'm so happy Katee got the part!
