The Whisper is like... the last time Destiny had a sense of atmosphere and presence this strong for me. Dreaming City was definitely up there, but imo Whisper beats it. The first time you drop in to that claustrophobic hole, squeezing through vex architecture, before breaking through in to that dark abyss, with what little floor and wall that existed gleaming with blinding red... Fuck man. I miss it.
@@Lyrext a take hotter than solar 3.0 Dreaming City is severely overrated Don't get me wrong, I like the atmosphere, but it doesn't stand out in a space magic game like Destiny, there's just other cooler locations. Hell, even Tangled Shore was more fitting than Dreaming City for me
Me too, it was the first exotic mission i did as a new light and my first ever exotic was whisper, I'll never forget that day that got me into destiny, will forever miss IO, one of my favorite planets
Back in the day I would come to the green room and just jump around. It was so chill and relaxing. I love listening to this song, but it's not the same without being able to run around the room itself.
People like to say that Forsaken saved D2, but I honestly think it all began with The Whisper. Warmind was a time in Destiny 2 where my friends from D1 began playing a little more frequently. A day or two after The Whisper came out, my old sherpa friend gathered everyone together to run the mission, and we all went in blind. After almost an hour of trial and error, I finally made it to the Green Room with just a few minutes left on the timer. Up until that point I had expected this mission to be an easy one-run deal and figured that I was almost done with it. But when I reached the Green Room with almost no time left and with no clear path forward, that notion was shattered in the best possible way. I was wonderstruck and got this sense that I was only scratching the surface of things. I felt that special feeling that had been missing from Destiny since D2 vanilla. When this track kicked in alongside Xol’s voice, I knew that Destiny reached a turning point and was on the up-and-up again.
It's a shame that one of the creative forces behind both Whisper and Zero Hour is no longer with the company. Holtz and Datto did an interview with him during season of Arrivals and he walked them through a bunch of the design philosophy of the missions. Doing this mission blind for the first time recently when into the light came out was awesome. Going through the level before this, I was genuinely hooked. Then I got to this room, man transcendence. Incredible ambient track that pushes you to complete the mission.
As someone who was never able to complete whisper when it was around because I was (and still kinda am) a solo player and because I'm trash at the game, I now understand why so many people wanted the mission back lmfao
Ah yes the song that you hear for 30s because of the shortcut in the green room. Anyway, to this day, I consider The Whisper secret mission to be the peak of destiny secret content. It will forever be my favorite piece of content in the game. Thank you Bungie
Today, April 9th, 2024 "THE WHISPER" has returned to DESTINY 2. It's the first time I was able to play this mission. If not for the infinite revives, I wouldn't have been able to complete this mission Solo in my first run. Total 26 deaths. Has one of the best ambiance music in history of D2, like this retro style D2 vex theme. This and Presage have one of the best exotic mission music score ever. It was such a pain to kill the 4 bosses in the last part. Also, Bungie made area with so much detail, 40 mins is not enough to explore the whole mission. I was in the Green room for 20 mins finding the exit, thought I found the exit at the top of the room by firing a Oracle at the top. Had to resort to the guide 2 times throughout the entire mission, because I was unable to find to exit twice.
I just did my first ever completion today! I had to restart because I got stuck in The Green Room™️, and then my second run was the one I got my clear on. 12 deaths, and a lot of struggling on the final encounter lol I don't look forward to running it on Legend for the catalyst and upgrades, but I'll have to bug my friends for that one I will say that I'm proud of myself for not resorting to a guide at all (i have nothing against guides, I just wanted to clear it without any assistance for my first clear)
Ever since the whole fiasco with the impersonating takedowns, which followed shortly after a vague understanding on what is and isnt allowed to be uploaded based on bungie's unclear policies, Bungie had to create licensing for applicable music archival 3rd party channels

Honestly, for me nothing in Destiny can quite compare to stepping into the Green Room for the first time.
That and stepping in the Tower for the first time
Meeting oryx for the first time (in raid too) and going aboard the dreadnaught blind.

Same! The Whisper dungeon gave the most unique vibes that nothing could be compared to in the entire game.
Thank you, Michael Sechrist. Your work on this game will always be remembered and cherished despite what Bungie did to you.

"You shall drift.. There is no light here.. You shall drown.. in the deep.."
me listening to this masterpiece while i drown in the deep (i got swarmed by Shadow Thrall):
The beginning of the upward path towards the peak of Destiny, and the best gaming year of my life.
I don’t know what it is about this song, it just hits you with nostalgia even if you’re a new light..
honestly this song really fits the green room, the kind of 8-bit chiptune and stuff make the green room sound really mystic and mysterious

Hey, we expressed concern that we'd like the music being vaulted to be archived so they're licensing certain creators to archive the music.
