Let's Make a Plane From Trash
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 лип 2024
- I found mouthwash bottle and had a model plane kit I found at the Goodwill and thought it would be cool to make a scratch build/kitbashed trash plane. I kitbashed some plane model parts, model tank bits and other trash bits I've collected to put this together. This kitbash trash build came together pretty easy and with a little custom paint and some weathering I think it came out great. I really love that it has a Hayao Miyazaki feel to it!
I hope you enjoy this toy customization kitbash video!
Thanks for visiting DR Toys, and as always...

As a WWII aviation nerd, this build is right up my street. Brilliant.
Awesome thanks!
Great model, nice job. A cheap step-drill is the thing for drilling large holes in sheet/thin material. You'll have much better control - they don't 'pull' themselves into the hole like regular spiral drills do.
Good call! I just saw Adam Savage talking about these. Definitely need to get some!😃
Awesome work as always my friend..👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you for being inspiring and fun.
Glad to do it!
Really good plane the paint jobe is good and i can imagine it in like a war diorama of sort in a fictional world.
Thanks
I've been saving recycle items for months, with the intention of doing exactly what you do on this channel, before I even ran across your work. Since I haven't started my projects just yet, naturally my family and friends thought I was becoming a crazy hoarder, saving my trash. lol Thanks to you, I was able to prove my sanity by showing them what I'm really doing. I just hope my stuff comes out as well as yours. Cheers.
I love that! My neighbor now asks me if I want his trash that he thinks looks cool! 🤣
How cool/ crazy is that! LOL
@@DRToysCreations That's awesome, I love it. Once you start, it's like it gives you special vision. You start looking for and appreciating the shape of everything, and the basic materials most things are made from. Plus, it's a purely positive thing to be doing. It's one less thing headed to a land-fill, becomes something a collector or kid will enjoy, and creates a way to make a little money as an artist. Of course, the greatest part is, parts are free. When you can make something valuable out of trash, to me, that's the highest on the accomplishment scale. It's inspiring to see your work, and know it can turn out that well, if you know what you're doing.
A great tip I got for blending in decals when they look too clean is to take a bit of your base colour (the oregano green) on a bit of torn sponge and dab very lightly on the decal after it's applied, it'll make it look worn and blend it in with the paint. Absolutely fantastic build too, very Studio Ghibli and it reminds me heavily of Metal Slug too!
Great tip! Thanks 🙏
Now this is cool! Very nicely done!
Thanks
Absolutely fantastic work and a brilliant model👌
Ragards from Germany
🙏 Thank you.
It's a chubblecraft
😅
Super cool!!!!! Love it!!! ❤😊❤
I'd love to see more of these WW2 inspired spaceships! Thanks for the great content, it looks awesome!
Hmm that is a very nice bits box🤔
Great kit-bash. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Another great build! Brings back memories of illustration styles from old sci-fi comics~👍
I totally agree!
Get yourself some step drills - they help a ton when performing sketchy maneuvers like drilling towards your hands 😅 also twist drills spin all wild because they bite into the material. Step drills prevent such events by virtue of their geometry
Love the outcome!
Yeah, I saw Adam Savage using them and I totally need to get some! Thanks 🙏
@@DRToysCreations I saw them used with thin metal, and tried it myself to great success... No whirly sheet metal death 😅 on plastic even the cheap harbor freight or princess auto options should work great!
@@wayneswonderarium Awesome! Great to know, thanks!
Wow great idea looks cool. Tou should get a step up drill bit for stuff like that on the nose cone. 🤙🏼
That's the plan! LOL
I was just thinking of commenting about how the aircraft could remember something from Laputa or Porco Rosso... 😅😉
Great as always Doc 👍
💯
That was too cool!!
Way cool. Very nice work sir
The model looks great and the painting is fantastic! I like this design and the weathering looks very good. Thanks for taking this time to build and share this.
Thank you very much!
Wow, really cool...kinda reminds me of a Maschinen Krieger ship! Keep 'em coming! :D
I love those model kits!
Nice build!
Another great build, i really enjoy watching them, you could build a whole fleet of spacecraft.
Welcome back! Another fun flyer. Great work on the plane. I love the cockpit detail and the antenna. I see the Miyazaki feel for sure.
Cool, thanks
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
That drill looked scary! Perhaps you could use a nail that's been heated up to burn a hole :)
I got some step bits for my birthday, they are supposed to be much safer!😃
Thanks.
That is awesome. Love the cockpit especially. These little ships from the bottles have been some of my favorite builds of yours.
Thank you very much!
Bizarre! But I love it. keep making weird things!
Thanks, will do!😃
Really love it!
Yay, thank you!
Awesome, pieces 🤙
Thanks 👍
Wowww, man. I really really love it. 🎖️
Thanks a ton!
Awesome man 🔥👏🏻
Thanks 🔥
Cool 😎 love it awesome 👍😎❤🎉
Thanks 😁
Nice Idea.. And very good work 😊
Greets from Christian at Germany
Thanks! Greetings from Colorado!😃
from an aerodynamics and engineering standpoint it makes me cry, but it still looks cool!
😅 Sorry about that! I totally get it has no tru function it was just super fun to build! 😂
@@DRToysCreations oh I bet! wacky aircraft are always fun, and it's very reminiscent of an actual aircraft called the Stipa-Caproni
Fantastic 👏👏
Thank you! Cheers!
Good Morning Dr. Great Build! The wing piece that You used to support the cockpit is from SW Trade Federation Droid ship. Keep up tha Great Work!
Cool, thanks
I left a big ole comment last night, but I don't see it anymore. So here goes: Love this lil bomber! Has the right mix of nostalgia and futuristic components. Came out amazing, and easily moves to the top of my favorites by you. LMK if you want to sell it ;)
Thanks man! I appreciate you taking the time to comment (twice)! 😅
I’d love to see more vehicle stuff like this
Really good 😃
Thank you so much 😀
Cool!
Ahhh - really I love this inventional modelling. I've done it also for Warhammer 40K decades ago. I'm thankful to see this stuff - more please!
So I leave an abbo 🙂
Thank you very much!
Super WonderVaffe.
You are doing what I’ve always wanted. Trash art forever!!
Man i just love watching you turning trash into a piece of art. Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you so much 😀
“Little recycle piece I missed”. Just means the ship’s made of “recycled “ indigenous/SW tech. Great job, yet again
Thanks
That green wing thing is a droid starfighter (vulture droids) from star wars, not sure which version
That's exactly what I thought when I saw it
Thanks
@@DRToysCreations you're welcoem
That's awesome! Looks like something from Metal Slug.
Great plane. 👍
Ever consider making a fictional battle tank?
Thanks. That’s something I haven’t made yet but definitely on my list!😃
Wow secret project weapon like haunebau
8:00 Would've made that vertical fin a bit taller, personally. Very cool, though.
3:25 I suggest getting a Dremel. They're prefect for cutting etc.
I have a dremel but the plastic was thin enough that the exacto worked well for this section. I agree Dremel is a great tool!😃
Reminds me of the crazy experimental aircraft of early WW2
Right!😃
When you said about the RECYCLING LOGO , I didn’t notice much in the beginning but once done yeah I noticed it but that’s ok,these things happens and other perfect detailings will make it move out of picture….overall the outcome is amazing 😇
Thanks, I noticed it after I glued the propeller in and painted it with the green… I was hoping the black wash would hide it and it did a little but not all the way. It’s all part of the journey.😅
Great job on this build. Big Ghibli fan myself.
That's such a cool little plane!❤
Your level of creativity is amazing. I really enjoy all your build videos. I just need to save more junk to give it a try myself.
Thanks. I appreciate that.
Awesome, your creativity is to be commended.
Thank you so much 😀
It just goes to show it’s the painting and finishing that makes plastic models look good!
Right!😃

@@pumukycabrera4135 Awesome!
Parabéns, muito da hora 🎊🎉
3:45 That's a wing off a Star Wars Vulture droid starfighter.
I’ve been waiting so patiently for this video. Fantastic! Thanks again for sharing. You transform basic bits and pieces into works of art. I thought I’d be waiting 2 weeks for your model, but thankfully it was only a week or a bit. Your friend from Australia. Graeme
Thanks Graeme! Glad you enjoyed it!
@@DRToysCreations I did enjoy it. Your approach is really good. Especially the weathering.
Super cool my friend came out awesome as always. But in the turn around shots I did see the recycle stuff you missed but if you wouldn't have mentioned it I probably wouldn't have noticed, but still very cool.
Yeah, I just got back from CA Wednesday night, went to a play in Denver on Thursday night so I busted my butt to get that build out and totally missed that.😅
Thanks for checking out all my work, I really appreciate it!
@@DRToysCreations I totally enjoy and look forward to your videos every week.
Another great build ! Love the ideas you come up with. Keep up the awesome work!
Thanks! Will do!😃
Wonderful little plane!
Thanks!
ATTN!:
I just learned a trick for getting that aweful sticker residue off your bottles!
It is counter intuitive, but hear me out...
"Duct tape." Dab at the residue with a wad of duct tape. The residue would rather stick to the glue on the duct tape than on the bottle.
I hope this helps someone else; saved me a lot of frustration.
Great tip! Thanks.
Wd40 type oil also cleans off sticker goo.
Great tip. Thanks.
Great build Dave! Love it
Awesome thank you! You’ve been doing some beautiful work yourself!
Muy bueno! :3
Fantastic little plane/space ship Dave!! I love the rivits and angled wings, it gives me steong vibes for a line of modela from the 70's -80's based off cartons. (They were similar to Rat Fink kind of designs, but other vehicles instead of just hot rods.)
I do have to worry about the pilot's visibility though, he'd have to rely on his sensors to know what is directly ahead of him. Also, landing that thing has to be an amazing feat! 😱
😂 I say he has a full screen display like in a Tesla.😂
And landing… we’ll, that’s his problem not mine!😂😂😂
Very cool!!!!!! 👍👍
Thanks!!
@@DRToysCreations 😊👍
👍
Eres un genio!!
😃thanks.
4:15 melt/sand the tiny bump a little bit to catch the drill tip (?) but wait for it to cool, you should buy a tiny brush for washing your finger nails and palm prints of plastic dust
Thanks for the tip.
@DRToysCreations Ywnp, OH or tiny nicks just to rest the tip in
Just a couple panel lines on the body would have went a long way but otherwise, pretty rad.
Really cool, I love it. It does make me wonder why it has both a rocket engine and a propeller though😆
Thanks for another entertaining video!
Sometimes the propellers just don’t cut it…😂
Metal Slug vibe.
I'm from Brasil! Beautiful job.
Thanks!
bravo
Love your videos man! Keep it up please! Love the space crafts and droids you’ve been doing! Alittle challenge for you, since your alittle bit of a Star Wars nerd like me, with the announcement of the new Star Wars Outlaw game, I’d love to see your take on a space outlaw or droid outlaw assistant or outlaw ship. Wild Wild West meets Star Wars underworld!! Have a great weekend and happy fathers day!
Thanks for the idea!
Love it. Definitely a Ghibli plane
Thanks
You did an awesome job. I love and enjoy your videos
Thank you so much!
You could make some awsome gaslands cars.
I’ve only done one Hot Wheels build and it was pretty fun. I have a video of it on my channel here… it’s a little post apocalyptic …🤔
I love it what a awesome build you always make the best❤😊
Thank you! 😊
Looks great , though the pilot can't see out of the front of the cockpit .... and l,thing ifit had a bit more of a protruding nice cone for the engine and propeller , nicely done otherwise 😊👍
😃someone else mentioned that as well… I said he has cameras and a dashboard screen like a Tesla!😅
🎈🎈👍👍😁😁
I like the simplicity of it, has a very Metal Slug vibe to it with the chunky proportions. One thing i would've added, is another "railing" around the glass of the cockpit itself in the classic fighter plane H-shape (like two lines across, and one connecting), so it looks sturdier instead of one huge glass dome. Quick tip, from personal experience, if you use thread, always add it after priming. Thread tends to gorge up on paint and looks messy sadly :( Either that, or use fishing line that'll just coat evenly and that you can repaint after (or even scratch off if you want to keep it clear)
Great point on the cockpit. Funny that you mention the string, that’s exactly what happened to me, so I ripped it off and added a new one at the end.😅
Thanks
You should do a video showing off your recording rig. How you film the videos.
It’s pretty lo-tech…😅 but great idea!
@@DRToysCreations That's the best kind - especially the background of your channel - My channel is low tech too!
Very thrifty. Most would have seen that Crest bottle and only have seen trash, but you saw potential for more.
Thanks
star wars mechanism toy thing is from a star wars hyperspace ring toy
Amazing 🫶💪💪💪 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
on the one hand that propeller would basically do nothing with how small it is compared to the body, on the other hand it has a jet engine on the back so the propeller is probably just aesthetic to begin with.
Yeah, definitely not a practical ship but really fun to build.😅
Very cool. Wish I could do something like this, but I just don't have the same imagination. It's so frustrating.
I get it. The more I do this I realize my brain sees the world a little differently than everyone else’s. 😂
Great job Doc, but can you time travel?
I don’t think it can get up to 88 mph! 😂
The bit at 3.47 is from a vulture droid wing from Phantom Menace in case you want to find it again hahaha
Awesome, thanks.
What is that picture of the blue guy with yellow eyes and teeth hanging on the wall behind you? I love that style!
It’s an art piece by The Tennessee Wolfman, he does awesome work, you should check out his stuff on Instagram. @tn_wolfman
@@DRToysCreations awesome, thanks! And keep up the awesome work!
There are very affordable benchtop drill presses out there...perhaps you should invest in one?
I would like to get a drill press holder for my dremil.
What was that Tamiya glue that bonds called? didn't catch what it was
Following
Extra Thin Cement
@@DRToysCreations thanks. Is it also good for repairing broken figures like neca, Or is it just polystyrene?
You used a Vulture droid wing from star wars
Thanks, I wasn’t sure what it was…
