Tried to explain to someone today about this song, and about Ann and Nancy. When I was in my twenties, I toured around the west with various bands. Heart was already head and shoulders above us all, and Nancy’s writing gave me access to music thinking and a freedom to step outside of the quickly rigidifying boundaries of Rock and write what I felt, instead of what I thought I should be be writing. Two beautiful people, and little did I know how completely naturally charming. Lucky us, to have them in our world.
I am friends with a Gipson family, my good friends mom is a songwriter/guitarist. I wonder if there is any relation. Originally from Joplin, Missouri but ended up in South Texas.
What incredible talent! Not to mention that I could listen to her talk all day. She has such a smooth, relaxing voice. She could have been an ASMR star as well.
This video is a gold bar for all the fans around the world. Thank for upload and share it... Ann and Nancy.... Two eternal singers who tagged a time in our lifes.
Nancy THANK YOU!!! I saw you and Ann KICK ASS in Portland, Maine back in 1987/8... I play.. A friend of mine asked me if I could play this song.. I can figure out most anything... Seeing this video, I'm going to NAIL the hell out of this song on a 6 string!!!... Thank you Nancy!!! My Best to you and ANNE!!!
Thats an awesome song!! I lost my mom a few years back and she loved Heart! I was remembering when she'd take me to ball practice or sax lessons and we'd always listen to Heart. Mom got me into the best music on the planet, and here is just one of those amazing bands! Thank you Heart for all the great memories and time I spent with mom! We love you!!! ❤
Wow. Thank you for taking the time to show us this. There's nothing like getting it RIGHT from the source! I am learning how to play Acoustic, and this helps me immensely. Thank you, thank you!!!!!!!!!
I am a piano player and to me the guitar seems like the most damn complicated instrument ever! I mean with a piano there's 88 keys right there in your face to choose from. You can't play them any different other than playing it softly, or more aggressively. With the guitar, there are just so many options and different ways to play it, and nobody plays it the same way. I am just amazed when I watch videos of people explaining it. I admire people that have mastered it because it just seems so hard. I have tried a couple of chords on it, and no way. Cannot do it. I love HEART and this song, especially!! ♥️
I hear ya...I consider myself a guitar player and not a piano player but lately I'm playing piano better than the guitar dammit! I keep working at it though..but you're right, the physicality of it is more challenging. ~~Katerina
I’ve always loved keeping my 1st and 2nd string open especially with Emaj And Fmin The song We Just Disagree is in Nashville Tuning I love you and all of your music !Nashville Larry
watching you keeping it simple playing this gave me a new appreciation for my 12 string. Great video, thanks for making these. Cant play it as beautifully as you but i still enjoy trying now.
She could certainly sing it, but I have always loved her background vocals on this song...whenever I hear it I always gravitate towards singing Nancy's part, it's just so pretty! It's a great song overall I think.
@@pokerface8242 she's never sung lead on this song as far as I know. Why would she go doing it here? It's just a guitar demonstration. Some people seem to think she was the singer!
I'm glad I found this video. I've been trying to find the intervals between chords and faked them through the years. And by the way Nancy, you explain and teach very well. Even after more than 50 years of playing in and out of bands, you made it so much easier and simpler for me to understand your style. I don't have a twelve strung but have a celebrity series ovation that I live that sounds incredible. Thanks for the tutorial. Much better sounding now. Imagine that, lol.
Nothing wrong with the Celebrity Series! I've seen Nancy play this on 6 string but Ann was also playing along with her...so that's still 12 strings 😄 I've played it plenty on 6 string but of course it always sounds better on 12. Glad to hear this video helped you! 👍 ~~Katerina
Its a crazy world. After playing for so long it is disturbing that you can't find people to play with that are willing to commit to writing songs much less play on the road anymore. I've been looking for collaborators do years for writing songs and have oodles of, (in my opinion) songs I know would sell and do very well on the market and can't find avenues of good musicians who are willing to commit. Obviously the ones I know aren't serious about music as I am. But it's not what you know but who you know. Sad really. There is some talent out there, just none to commit.
Nancy and Ann certainly landed on the perfect band name because truly their music is played with heart and a strong one at that, so beautifully gifted. I cant decide whether i enjoy playing Heart or Led Zeppelin songs the most (my 2 favorite bands). Gotta say though these videos sure make it a lot easier to pick out my favorite songs. Nancy keeps it simple and still sounds beautiful, simply beautiful.
I know! She usually uses it on this song...I think only one time I saw her use a 6-string but Ann was playing along with her. Other songs she used 12-string are Sister from Live at McCabe's and Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters which can be seen on the Alive In Seattle dvd. I also have that song on my channel that I recorded at their Jacksonville show in '02. If I can think of any others I'll come back and edit 😄
Thank you Nancy for showing us how to play. I decided not to play it because there’s no way I can sing it like Ann. The Wilson sisters are my favorites
NANCY VOCÊ ERA E É MUITO LINDA POR DENTRO E POR FORA,SEU CARISMA NO PALCO A AGENTE SENTE E VER,VOCÊ É ESPECIAL VERDADE ATRAÇÃO DA BANDA HARTY,ABRAÇO. ❤❤❤
This song has a single note vocal harmony at the end of a couple of the verses that is so cool . Anyone know what I’m talking about and what it is and why it works so beautifully. I don’t think I have ever seen it before in any other song.
Yes it is Nancy's lovely background harmony. She holds that "Try........." before she echoes Ann's "Rolled back down to the ground" again in perfect harmony. I've always loved how they did that. ❤️
I've been playing guitar for quite a long time and usually on a bar chord like she does with the B chord, you put your second finger on top of the first to add some strength to the first finger. She does the opposite, she puts her second finger on top of the third...never seen that, can't do it.
Funny though these women their music see Ms as beautiful if not more than they appeared. War between men and women what would the world be like without the woman glad you exist you do many things we cannot not without you.
She's just so easy going and humble and sweet that you forget she's a fucking legendary rockstar
*I can't believe I'm learning how to play this song from Nancy*

I’m so grateful that my wife and I were able to get to see Heart ♥️ in concert!!
I could listen to her all night, and day... What a great gal and her stories with her instruments...
Beautiful song played by a beautiful person!
Who wouldn't want Nancy explain her work. My God. Nancy is one of many. But she is on a level that changed my life.
Nancy’s & Ann’s live performance of this Song, Dog & Butterfly at Seattle was just plain awesome. So pure. ✊✊
Guitar lesson from Nancy Wilson,lol
And sharing the love. This day is complete and was beautiful. Thanks
I was just thinking of this song and how cool it would be to get a lesson from Nancy Wilson. And here it is! 😀
A virtuoso who shares her knowledge. One of the most beautiful people on the planet. Thank you!
Living proof of finding what you are great at.
Beautiful

Dude been playing 30 years can't learn this AHHHHH!!! SO COMPELLED THOUGH
Thank you Nancy for this beautiful gem of a song.
so nostalgic
I know this first chord but shifting the chord for two bars is an inspiration for me. Thank you. 🦋

My favorite Heart song❤️ 🎵
Awesome lesson by nancy
kept waiting for her to sing
Nancy is awesome
What a wonderful clip!! Love this amazing 12-string sound! Thanks for sharing and all the best, Jimmy
She's amazing and I never call anyone amazing
Her instruction is all Greek to me but the sound of that 12 string stirs my soul. Would have been cool to hear Nancy sing a few of the verses....
She could certainly sing it, but I have always loved her background vocals on this song...whenever I hear it I always gravitate towards singing Nancy's part, it's just so pretty! It's a great song overall I think.
Do you not know how to search you tube?

Show me where Nancy is singing Dog & Butterfly. I dont mean just background, I mean lead.
I agree, it would have been helpful to hear the vocals along with it.

I freakin love this song. My favorite Heart song.
And i freanin love Nancy. Learning to play this properly from her is just priceless

Man, I've been playing guitar for 25 years. Do you know how difficult it is to play this?

I heard this song on the radio and looked up how to play it then saw Nancy had a lesson 😅 nice bonus
She’s an absolute Sweetheart! 😍
For UK viewers she numbers her strings from hi to low

I had to figure this out by myself from vinyl......
😄 well at least you have the ability to do that...I usually have to pay someone to show me.

Them "Doggone Butterflies"
Gorgeous woman in a corvette. Fast times at ridgemont high
It is all about the effin music 😆
These chors are a bit difficult to note on a 12 string guitar that she's playing. Her hands are small too.
Please tell me what does Frozen Strangers Stealing Your Fire mean
Funny though these women their music see Ms as beautiful if not more than they appeared. War between men and women what would the world be like without the woman glad you exist you do many things we cannot not without you.
I guarantee you that I'm playing it correctly. 😊
