I love kit lenses, they are very portable and versatile. Also they are very resistant, you are very unlikely to break them. And they are sharp, at least the one that came with my SL2, 18-55 F4-5.6 IS. Unfortunately they are dark, or slow, but I almost always take pictures during the day, so it makes no difference.
I happened to stumble on this video and it really helped me. Just understanding these basic settings and my pictures already show an improvement. Thank you for taking time to put together a video like this especially with examples.
I just got my Canon 650D (T4i) with a kit lens and I'm pretty impressed with the results and I will rather shoot at iso 100 and change shutter speed to get the portrait images as clear as possible even tho I would have loved to get that f3.5 the 5.6 still does amazing thanks for this video
I think you gave us some GREAT TIPS about the kit lenses...I started out with an economic 18-140mm DX kit lens on a Nikon 7200 and was very happy with it outdoors! Thanks

The kits lens is what casual shooters get when they buy an interchangeable lens camera. For many people, it could be the only lens they ever buy, so it has to be sturdy, reliable, flexible, and generally good enough to satisfy. If the supplied lens is total crap, a lot of buyers will simply return the camera instead of shopping for better lenses. Camera makers obviously want people who buy their cameras to keep those cameras and also to buy more lenses, something they won't do if they've returned the camera. Pros and enthusiasts often buy body only because they think the kit lens is useless to them, but if I were buying a new body, I'd seriously evaluate the offered kit lens. In some cases, the makers are all but giving it away, and it's always useful, even if only on a backup camera or as an emergency spare.

Hej, zależy jak bardzo poważnie do tego podchodzisz. Biorąc pod uwagę, że to kit lens można spokojnie przyjąć założenia ogólne, czyli f9, f11 są mega bezpieczne dla optymalnej ostrości
You can purchase many Inexpensive 35mm & 50mm Prime Lenses (Many that have only Manual Focus) and set the F Stop at around (f 4), which is a "Sweet Spot" for A Prime Lens Blurry Background .
@@JacekSopotnicki yes I know. I'm sure you can get good results but with more effort, post editing, using tripod etc... One of the portraits you showed at 55mm looks very good.

Kit lenses got some bad reputation back in the days but they are very capable and enough for most people
A good photographer with a mediocre lens can make good photos. A good musician with a mediocre instrument can play well.
